Pretty much all the game recordings have already been done, haven't they?
Anyway if Virtual Boy music were ripped it'd probably have nothing to do with either vgmstream or the manly archive, it'd be a separate deal. would be nice though. what are the virtual boy's sound capabilities anyway... same as game boy's?
it sounds like maybe 5 x PSG, 1 x noise. the wave shapes are saws and 50% squares... definitely couldn't do saws on the game boy sound hardware other than using the WAVE channel. interesting, i would love to learn more about the virtual boy's sound hardware. i hope one of these one of the many talented folk around the emulation circles decides to look into it.
those tracks are really brilliant as well. i adore Gunpei's Voyage. some of the best music Yamamoto has written without any doubt.
There is! Blue_Kirby2 from over at the Gaming Force forums did some fairly nice rips of Virtual Boy Wario Land and Red Alarm. I don't like the music anywhere near as much as the Galactic Pinball tracks, but that's kind of to be expected. I appear to have kept the rar files around...
Red Alarm (Ken Kojima) http://www.sendspace.com/file/z3zb8e
Red Alarm is actually better on my second listen to it, although it doesn't really do a whole lot to distinguish itself. It does have a boss theme for each stage, which is something I always appreciate in a shooter. Except apparently the last stage doesn't have a unique one?
Since Red Alarm was apparently developed by T&E Soft (weird for me, since I mainly know them for their RPGS), it seems we can safely say that the Ken Kojima who worked on the following titles is the same dude: Cu-On-Pa SNES (no idea if he worked on the PSX version) Blaze and Blade Eternal Quest (I have the PC version, and the music is pretty bizarre MIDI-ish stuff that I should try spreading around some time) 3D Tetris (VB) (T&E Virtual) Golf (VB)
Virtual Boy Wario Land (Kazumi Totaka) http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/9/1/1401201/VBWL.rar http://www.sendspace.com/file/xhvsei
I'd say this is actually one of Totaka's (and Wario's) least interesting scores, sadly. It's not much of an advance over the regular Game Boy Wario games.
also what the heck why do all my mp3 files sound scratchy now puppylinux *something awful fist-shaking smiley*
Totaka's music for VBWL is better than the soundtracks for 1 and 3. 1 has some interesting tunes, but I have to say that a combination of the hardware and Totaka's composition makes the soundtrack better. The compositions just seem to be pretty bold, and he's not afraid to use silence to enhance mood. Of course, most tracks are variations on the main theme...
