genh to wav? by thebib62 at 10:26 AM EDT on November 5, 2010
I was able to extract a fsb file from Smackdown vs Raw 2011 with fsbtext, but the files are in .genh format (even though it says MUS_0305_0_0.wav in the cmd box) , it plays fine on winamp, but i would like to convert them to a more playable format, such as wav or mp3. IS this possible?
I don't think you answered his question. GENH is a format created by the rippers here. It's very unique, in that, if you see GENH files, they were created by someone on this forum (they simply don't exist elsewhere, since it's a "proprietary" format, in that it was created for a very specific purpose. It's extremely unlikely that it'd be used by anyone else, especially a "big" game development studio). Thus, when you say "I was able to extract a fsb file from Smackdown vs Raw 2011 with fsbtext, but the files are in .genh format", it sounds like the files you pulled out of Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 were GENH from the start, which is unlikely.
More likely, is that you extracted the files, and ran those files through a tool (most likely VGMToolbox) which grouped up the necessary information into a GENH file. Either that, or you downloaded a rip that someone here created. Regardless of the method, it's unlikely that the actual files on the game's disc are GENH. They could be, theoretically, but I'd be sincerely surprised if this was the case.
This is why bxaimc is so surprised by your statement. If it's true to the words used, it'd be an amazingly huge surprise. Otherwise, you didn't properly identify the method used to extract the files, and the subsequent steps to add the GENH header (which, as I said, is something that shouldn't have been found on the game disc).
I'm with bxaimc on this one. You found GENH files in a game?! Really? Please, tell us more! Though, more specifically, what method(s) did you use to extract the audio? I'm curious to know if this is a miscommunication (which it most likely is), of if there really are GENH files in game. That'd be amazing if there were! Mouser X over and out.
In answer to the original question, converting to .wav is as simple as setting Winamp's output plugin to out_disk; mp3 is as simple as either creating said wav and encoding with LAME (or whatever you choose) or simply using out_lame. Look around on winamp.com and there are output plugins for other formats as well (like ogg, likely).
