Are you sure? It's not in my mini-games list, but it is used in Super Mario 64 DS.

edit: checking http://www.mariowiki.com/Mini-games
ok, now I see it's only used when playing against someone else.

vio2sf v0.20 released. It supposedly fixes the _lib2 tag problem that Knurek mentioned earlier. I am not sure which 2SF sets use _lib2 tags, so I can't test it for myself.

The final laps on MKDS are awesome. The Mario Kart 64 still needs those, though. What's up with those?
by arbingordon at 4:23 PM EDT on August 8, 2009
they've been up on the usf page since its creation, ripped by ugetab, however they don't have proper timers (just copied over from their non-final lap versions)

and to be sure, since you wouldn't link me to you're *final* tagged set for Banjo-Tooie (and for that matter Banjo-Kazooie), is it safe to assume that this and this are the most "up-to-date" versions?
by holyice7 at 5:57 AM EDT on August 9, 2009
As of one minute from now, they will be...well, at least the way you want them. They were already updated as far as names, but I put in your unsplit dynamic tracks as well this time. Was that it, or did you have any other games I needed to do something for as well?

Oh, also; heed the warning in the readme, since the .libs aren't the same.
Tetris DS by jurassicPieter at 7:38 AM EDT on August 9, 2009
here's tetris ds.
Strangely enough the volume controller is missing for DK Push and i can't figure it out what causes this to happen. DK Push is a disaster to split.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DW1H5C2H

Also for mario kart 64, there are versions of sped up tracks that don't exist, but that's usf, not 2sf.
The final mario kart ds version only has mission mode, battle mode and boss battle sped upo and i'm not sure whether it was used or not.
by arbingordon at 1:05 AM EDT on August 11, 2009
I think ugetab kept them as they were still in the games code and rippable to usf (similar to keeping all-in-one dynamic tracks).
by Dais! at 1:06 AM EDT on August 16, 2009
time for another round of "dais hasn't been paying attention at all"!

Is there a list of the exact capabilities of VGMToolbox anywhere?

I'm specifically curious if it can replace the VGMTrans ability to play some streams from just opening the DS ROM, as well as being able to export the individual sequences and sample files. It'd also be nice if it could also extract sequence files, but I can always use something else for that.
by snakemeat at 2:27 AM EDT on August 16, 2009
Is there a list of the exact capabilities of VGMToolbox anywhere?

No, I've got a WIP manual available in SVN, but it is incomplete. I've uploaded it here in case you don't use SVN. For now, think of the rest of the app as an Easter Egg. For most tools, I try to have a brief description of what it does, as well as any warnings or notes, in the output area.

I'm specifically curious if it can replace the VGMTrans ability to play some streams from just opening the DS ROM, as well as being able to export the individual sequences and sample files. It'd also be nice if it could also extract sequence files, but I can always use something else for that.

VGMToolbox cannot play straight from the game image. Using the SDAT Finder (to get SDATs out of the game image) and SDAT Extractor (to extract the SDAT contents) [Misc. Tools > Extraction Tools > Nintendo DS], however, will pretty much do everything else. It will extract all sequences, streams, banks, and additionally unpack the SWARs (wave archives). The STRMs and SWAVs (found in SWARs) can both be played with vgmstream.

There is currently a known issue with the SDAT Finder not finding SDATs in game images that have fake or bad SDATs. You can get the fixed version from SVN or wait for the next release.

I'll start working on them now. I'm sure I'll be at a loss for the new stuff, though a lot of the Battle Zone stuff sounds the same, as well as what I assume is the wireless plaza crap.

I went through and typed up some tags for a Gold, Silver, and Crystal soundtrack I put together in May for a friend, so I can probably get away with using those for rudimentary tags for now.

Either way, thanks, and compliments on your speed.

by agu fungus at 8:21 PM EDT on September 12, 2009
I think it would save you more time if you tagged my set instead. All duplicates are removed (I had to do it manually, because VGMToolbox failed to detect them all).
by VixyNyan at 8:43 PM EDT on September 12, 2009
Actually, we're saving more time with my set. I already took care of copyright info, timing and other things that fits the 2sf archive standards. All I have to do is delete the duplicates and just do very small changes to the file names. Some of it I did manually too, and I worked so hard to make this as acceptable as possible. I've always wanted to submit something to the 2sf archive with my name on it, and this is my first 2sf rip ever. ;^;

by agu fungus at 9:02 PM EDT on September 12, 2009
All right, but as advice, make sure that Route 29 doesn't come first in the set, as 03E8 or 03EB (I don't remember), but as 0404, so that the 03EC and 03FO come first instead (the Opening and Title songs, respectively). There should be a total of 286 songs.
by VixyNyan at 7:40 AM EDT on September 13, 2009
Thank you for the advice. I fixed, re-tagged and re-numbered everything. Look at that link of mine again. ^^

Um, is it OK if I rip 2sf from other games? o.o

Offhand I can think of a few things: if it's trying to find a ratio for converting some of the weird frequencies the DS uses to something like 44100 it might be flipping out (some output plugins used to do this with 64th Note).
Alternatively, the 2sf player might not be set up correctly for DSP plugins.

I don't know if this is right to ask this, but, is there any chance that vio2sf can have interpolation support for its next release, just like DeSmuMe currently has? Just asking.
by JILost at 12:16 AM EDT on September 25, 2009
I don't think anyone knows who actually makes vio2sf other than the vague identity of "mysterious plugin guy", but hopefully that person is reading this thread.
by Mouser X at 12:44 AM EDT on September 25, 2009
Generally, I've seen them refered to as "pluginja", because no one knows who does it. But, I'm pretty sure that the reason you don't see such an option (interpolation) is because vio2SF is using an old version of DeSmuMe, which didn't have support for that. SmartOne (I think it was him, I'm not 100% certain) attempted to use the current version of DeSmuMe to update vio2SF, but was unable to figure out the gobleygook that is the source code to vio2SF. I know a few other people that took a look at the source code, and they said it wasn't pretty. So I'm inclined to think that, in its current state, it's a bit of a mess, and difficult to update the NDS core (DeSmuMe) to a newer version.

Hopefully I'm wrong (or that pluginja has an idea of what's going on in the code), and it can be updated with a new DeSmuMe core. I've heard that the newer version of DeSmuMe has a lot of improvements to the audio emulation. Mouser X over and out.

hey Jackano, did you notice that a soundtrack was released for Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love along with a strategy guide?

not suggesting it as a replacement for someone helping you do a 2sf rip, just pointing it out if you hadn't seen it. Assuming that I'm really seeing a 1,100 yen price for the guide AND CD, that's a pretty damn good deal.

VixyNyan, I can't access any computers with 2sf playing capabilities right now and for probably a while. How does the audio quality of Shooting Star stand up to the DS port of Mega Man Battle Network 5? What I heard of the demo sounded almost like the GBA games, but I figured that might be from the small size of DS download demos.

On-line 2SF player? Uh, why?

Well i think it it would be a great project to do. and this way you can listen to 2sf files streaming from anywhere. Some mobile phones support streaming, so if you connect to the streaming from the phone, you'd be able to listen to 2sf files on the go! That would be the idea....

You said it would be streaming MP3s anyway. It would be more efficient to create your own collection of MP3s from the archive.
by Ice_Pegasus at 1:55 AM EST on December 4, 2009
Yeah but most mobile phones cant stream mp3 files, and if they do, it takes a long time to buffer. I was thinking maybe output to m4a, a much smaller and efficient format. And rather than taking every single 2sf file and converting it in winamp of something, just let the server run the script, which would enable to get the m4a file on the go. Once the user is inished, it will delete the temp m4a file. This, saving server space. I can only find asp.net mvc hostes with like 500 mb of data as a free host, which would require me to upload the 2sf files in a database elsewhere, like on my current host, and set the connectionstrings of the web.config to point to that server.

Try playing Kirby Super Star Ultra with interpolation on the latest DeSmume. Yes it does need interpolation to eliminate all that noise, as well as increase the sound quality. It has yet to be done on GBA music.
by JFD62780 at 6:17 PM EST on December 16, 2009
GBA? Fuhgeddaboutit! That stuff's done by custom software drivers hardcoded to GBA games. Though it WOULD be an awesome idea to create something that could somehow just rip the sample and sequence data so they'd not NEED to be bastardized by the GBA. Except for the original GameBoy channels; those can be a necessity for some games. :P

GBA audio can be interpolated with VBA-M and viogsf.

JFD62780, that's already how it's done. The stored samples suck to begin with so the GBA can handle them.

The "non-public hack" of vio2sf uses Linear interpolation. He could have chosen Cosine instead or added a plugin configuration option.

VBA-M and viogsf only filter the GSFs, so you don't get high quality anyway. I was thinking, how about converting GSF to 2SF? As far as I know, the NDS contains 8-bit channels that VGMTrans cannot play. Just an idea.

You mean the VBA-M interpolation happens after the channels are mixed? DeSmuME interpolates each channel and then mixes them?

Yeah, that would be an improvement.

Agu: whoa... you just went deep into my very mind for that idea, didn't you? :P

For that, I'm thinking we'll have to wait until a 2SF plugin comes up with the ability to select a method of interpolation for the final mix. ;)

(Might go better in this thread than the other one.)

Does anyone know if Pokémon Soul Silver and Heart Gold have been tagged?

Good thing I've liked the anime so much. And good thing it works.

This just in: Vio2SF 0.22b has just been released. This public beta includes a method for selecting the interpolated mixing method involved in playback. (FINALLY!)

Granted the six (Six? There should be three!) methods might not be matched in labeling, possibly cause of the miscommunication involved in a (possibly) Japanese plugin being based on US-based source code. Still, I feel the "Cosine Interpolation" option is the way to go for now. (I tried "Cosine"; it was really a fancier form of Linear interpolation, really. :P)

That said, Agu Fungus's idea now seems legit: How about converting GSF to 2SF? >;)

i forgot to mention that 0.22a fixed the weird echo issues with the heartgold/soulsilver tracks, so if you never got that update this one will cater for ya.

and just in case you didn't see yet, Elven Spellmaker, i tagged the set a few days back :)

nice to have some interpolation settings. i kinda like it turned off actually; nice a bright. the heartgold/soulsilver OST release seems to sound this way too.

I tried out the new release, now what needs to be fixed is all the popping sounds when played on some tracks. Kirby Super Star Ultra, for example.

And personally, I don't like the cosine interpolation. It's like mixing both uninterpolated and linear in one. I hope there are more interpolation options in the future, like cubic.

Agu: I TOLD you they were mislabeled. Use "Cosine Interpolation", not "Cosine". It's the method all the way at the bottom.

And I agree with the more methods request. This thing needs 4-point Gaussian (SNES), 8-Point Sinc, hell, even Band-Limited Mixing!
