Speaking of SNES, what's the interpolation of highest quality in SNESamp?
by JFD62780 at 6:19 PM EST on January 9, 2010
I believe it's 8-point Sinc you're referring to. oop, speaking of which, I have a post to edit. >;)
by Lunar at 9:16 AM EST on January 10, 2010
"I hope there are more interpolation options in the future, like cubic."

that's what i use for SPCs in foobar. sounds ace IMO. whether it'd be the best for NDS as well, i don't know.
by JILost at 1:35 AM EST on January 11, 2010
Pluginja is among the Greatest Things Ever.
by SmartOne at 3:47 PM EST on January 11, 2010
Different interpolation methods in VBA-M is ideal.

Don't know what you mean about having six interpolation methods in vio2sf. I see only three (well, two plus none).

edited 10:55 PM EST January 11, 2010
by JFD62780 at 11:31 PM EST on January 11, 2010
They are as follows:

1: "None" (entirely true in this case)
2: "Linear"
3: "Cosine" (I tried THIS option first; it was the 'fancy version of linear' that I mentioned.)
4: "No Interpolation"
5: "Linear Interpolation"
6: "Cosine Interpolation" (Currently what I use; my personal default.)

Hey, don't blame the Pluginja, blame the Language Barrier! :P

in_vio2sf.dll provides the last three.
by JFD62780 at 11:59 PM EST on January 11, 2010
Through where? I myself use Winamp 5.xx. What are you using the plugin on?
by SmartOne at 12:54 PM EST on January 12, 2010
XMPlay. Should be identical.
by Elven Spellmaker at 5:41 PM EST on January 12, 2010
No options of Interpolation on my vio2sf in Winamp.

I guess its enabled as default, but I don't know what to...

Hmm...

Infact discussing this has made me check my SNESAmp settings. Just turned Interpolation off, imo it sounds better now. Music sounds more full now. =D

(Just obviously a slight fuzz hum, but I can live with that for proper sounding audio, as opposed to the highs getting hacked off with any of the available interpolation options.)

Problem is, that ain't proper in the land of Super Famicom Audio.
by SmartOne at 12:12 AM EST on January 13, 2010
For interpolation options you need the latest vio2sf.

Fuzz hum? Try MGME.
by Elven Spellmaker at 4:20 AM EST on January 13, 2010
Problem is, that ain't proper in the land of Super Famicom Audio.
@JFD62780: Yeah I know that, but I'm after higher quality music more than original sounding. =)

Fuzz hum? Try MGME.
@SmartOne: Only with Interpolation off (This is SNESAmp), but its the best audio clarity. What I mean by that is that the sounds sound slightly harsh sometimes. Thats what interpolation is for it seems, but it also seems to band limit the music nastily.
by JFD62780 at 4:56 AM EST on January 13, 2010
Elven, I say Analog, you say Digital; let's call the whole thing off! :P
by Elven Spellmaker at 5:02 AM EST on January 13, 2010
LOL!

NO ITS FULL SCALE WAR NOW!

Only kidding. =D
by Jackano at 2:59 AM EST on January 19, 2010
Sorry if I already asked or something in another thread, but I can't remember if it was here or only about emulation... Anyway.

What's the current situation with DSiWares?
Dark Void Zero and the japanese Tingle Pack DSiWares soundtracks sounds interesting to me, and I hope there is a way to extract there music like a good old DS rom!
So anyone have some info about that? Thx!
by JFD62780 at 1:43 AM EST on January 20, 2010
Vio2SF 0.22c has just been released, curing the Gemini Syndrome that was apparent in the list of Interpolation Methods, effectively halving 'em down from 6 to 3, at least in Winamp 5.xx. ;)

...On second listen, it seems that the author mixed up Linear with Cosine, as the two terms SOUND switched to me. (i.e. Linear should be labeled Cosine and vice versa...) :/

oop, Vio2SF 0.23 was just released, officially updating the DeSmuME engine to 0.9.4, making the Interpolation options OFFICIAL! yayyyyyy! :D
by Sir-Sabin at 4:25 PM EST on January 25, 2010
why is winamp telling me it's still 0.22?

Edit: the readme is saying it's 0.23, maybe he forgot to change it

I feel the plugin is developed enough now to do lossy rips of 2sf rips. Pity I can't get STRM to decode in Foobar2k. Encoding in Winamp loses all tagging data (why no support for 3rd party codecs in Format Converter?!) and you're limited to OGG or MP3 (via Gronde's plugin) but then STRMs are 'untaggable'.
by Pulstar at 1:40 PM EST on January 30, 2010
Btw I have tagged my rip of Giana Sisters DS where do you want it sent to?
by arbingordon at 4:43 PM EST on January 30, 2010

Pokémon Diamond/Pearl update: Reordered some tracks labeled as "unknown" because they are part of the original soundtrack, plus added names to other unused tracks.

Pokémon Platinum update: Now with tags. The only thing left is sort them by chronological order and getting rid of duplicates (some of them are even duplicates of Diamond and Pearl). Some track names may be wrong, or may not even be duplicates. Correct if necessary.

Bonus GSF update! Pokémon Emerald: ALL tracks from ALL 3rd gen games are tagged and properly sorted!

Get it all here!

Hmm. I tryed to rip Assassins Creed Altairs Chronicles and VGMToolbox didn't rip anything. No extractable data found. But there is music. Any clue?
by Pulstar at 10:34 AM EST on February 25, 2010
You can always extract the roms and look for audio the old fashioned way.
by Knurek at 11:17 AM EST on February 25, 2010
@iloveyou:

Shiren 4 uses a non standard driver (IIRC Procyon Studio one). No 2SF rip possible till someone reverse engineers it (would be a blast, seems more and more games use this one).
by punk7890 at 8:24 PM EST on February 25, 2010
@Pulstar:

How would I go about doing that? I found a tag of Sounds.bar in the ROM if that helps.

Knurek~ Thank you.
by NLOG at 9:44 PM EST on February 26, 2010
I think music of "Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky" are good. But this title's music driver is also product of Procyon Studio.
I am disappointed always.

Maybe it will come back later. Hmm...
by JFD62780 at 11:34 PM EST on March 4, 2010
Worse; it's giving us a 403! What's wrong with wanting to listen to DS music on the PC in slightly better quality? o.O
by agu fungus at 3:47 AM EST on March 7, 2010
You can still download it from the Zophar site.
by lordskylark at 5:24 PM EDT on March 18, 2010
Is the Final Fantasy Gaiden music not 2sf? Because I haven't seen a rip floating around yet.
by Elven Spellmaker at 9:30 AM EDT on March 23, 2010
Its possible that it doesn't work with the current driver used.

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl didn't used to work on the Yoshi's Island DS driver for example.

Diddy Kong DS works for one play and then drops instruments on the loop on certain tracks, which is why it also isn't currently publically released.

Super Robot Taisen OG Saga Endless Frontier 2SF Rip

I didn't see it in your VGM archives for download, so I thought I'd post my apparently successful rip here.

I'm linking to my site because I don't have my own subdomain here like other people.

Also, it's only 38 tracks; what you can listen to with the in-game sound test. All named too.

but am worried about file size of one ROM being big.
by Dais! at 10:37 PM EDT on June 27, 2010
It's time for Revisit the Material (with Dais)!

If a common shmuck like me is using VGMToolbox, and he seems to successfully rip the sequences from a NDS game, all that's left to do is tag them (and time if that step was missed somehow), yeah?

There's no further optimization of the set/lib file, and the only way the accuracy of the songs (if it's in doubt) will improve is if:

1. Someone with the necessary skill goes into the game and pokes around and maybe turns up something interesting
2. The player/plugin itself is improved

This is a correct summation, right? I'm not exactly getting into ripping here, but even after other people have been hard at work on the process for years, it seems so strange to think I might have a functional rip after just dragging a file or two and clicking some buttons.
by Knurek at 1:22 AM EDT on June 28, 2010
That's the beauty of it - drag and drop a ROM on the VGMToolbox window, and you're done. :)

This is the New Super Mario Bros tagged set. The file labeled 15 - Underground Theme (Hurry) is not really faster than the original.

And in the Bowser's Inside Story set. The two mini game themes don't sound very different.
by Mirby at 12:10 AM EDT on July 24, 2010
In regards to the BIS set, the second mini-game theme plays in the last stage of a mini-game. For instance, when in the nose mini-game, it plays the second theme when the spiky damaging pollen falls and you need to hit the randomly appearing nerve.

so, I downloaded the Nostalgia rip that was here. And saw no named tracks. So I beat that game and named the tracks (and ordered them) according to the order in the in-game sound test. Here's the result.

Nostalgia 2SF Rip NAMED

All the original files are still in there, plus another readme describing what I did. Filenames are different to support other media players that can play 2SF files.

I learned from my SRTOGSEF rip; the 2sflib filename remains the same.
