Disney's Atlantis - The Lost Empire [PS1] by PrinceSnake at 5:57 PM EDT on May 10, 2018
Hello,

I want to request a rip for an old PlayStation game titled : Disney's Atlantis - The Lost Empire, so far no one has been able to rip it for whatever reason, it does not exist on the web.

And when I found the only guy who made a rip of that game, the links on his website were dead.
This is the game I am talking about : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2YJiXjvbs4

That would so cool, if one of you could manage to rip it I have tried to ask few years but I did not get a reply. I think this will be the last time I try.

Here's what I found:

Like other Eurocom-developed Disney games, this game's music is sequenced. (I figured that out with a hex editor and VGMToolBox's (imperfect) ADPCM data extractor.) The good news is that it uses the standard PSY-Q SDK format. The bad news is that everything is stored in one big file called "GFXFILE.BIN". Since nobody seemed interested in this before except for that one guy, I don't think an extractor (Xentax or such) exists for this particular game. (It's the same deal with LEGO Island 2: The Brickster's Revenge for the system!) If individual files could be extracted from that big data file, that would make it much easier to make a PSF rip of the game. (I actually could make one with Mark Grass's tool.)
In general, PSX games with sequenced music are much more interesting than those with XA or Redbook Audio (often WAV) or VAG stream data, but they ARE much harder to rip and sometimes even in a slightly unusual (compared to the usual format) or even a completely propriety format that can't be dealt with currently. I'm discovering more and more games with sequenced music!

Anyway, to help, here is the file I mentioned, extracted from the UK version with CDmage:

Speaking of LEGO Island 2, has anyone found a way to make a PSF rip of that game?

@ birdmanager6: WOW ... hum I'm not an expert at all in this stuff but what should I do with this file that you have kindly extracted for me?

Thank you very much even if the technical stuff is chinese to me.

Anyway I am happy because it moves slowly, maybe one day I will have that music.

You seem to love sequenced music

@PrinceSnake
There's nothing you can currently do with the file unless you have experience making generic psf's

@birdmanager6
Couldn't you have used vgmtoolbox's psf data finder to rip the files? The files have headers, although I do understand the thing misses stuff at times.

@Kirishima : it is that hard? Maybe @birdmanager6 could do it for me ? Thank you

Here you go : http://rgho.st/7RMySWKdT

Please note that it is a quick and unchecked rip (possible seq/vab mismatch, see yourself).

Also note that i enabled reverb (Studio large $F204)

But when doing so with the curently used driver (Mark Grass's 4.2.2), something is broken and it won't properly play on real hardware or Mednafen/Bizhawk but will play fine using Foobar/foo_psf.

Man, I LOVE YOU! Thank you so much !

@Squaresoft74 -- I plan to rebuild the driver and accompanying PC app, whenever I acquire a PSIO cartridge.

Many versions of the driver were tested in real hardware (SCPH-5501), but I simply haven't been able to justify the purchase of CD-Rs for years. The last few versions lack that necessary debugging, sadly.

I know there are lingering bugs and complaints but they will eventually be properly addressed.

Hi Mark, glad to hear from you ! :)

Well Mednafen/Bizhawk may be useful if you want to test without wasting CDRs.
They seem to be close enough to the real hardware, at least to reproduce the issue i mentionned.

I'm also waiting for my PSIO cartridge since almost a year now... but i already can test stuff on the real thing using one of my Xplorers and such setup:

If you ever need any beta testing, feel free to drop an email. :)

@PrinceSnake
Glad i could help. :)
