Huh? The GC discs are basically DVDs, including in the direction the drive spins. The only difference is the DVD header. When you PC reads the DVD header, it expects to find certain information. Because the GC DVDs have their header arranged differently, your PC can't find the data it's looking for. Thus, it assumes there's no DVD in the drive. There's ways around this, but it requires specific DVD drives, and a modified firmware image for that specific drive.
The direction it spins has nothing to do with it at all. That's an "old" myth which can easily be debunked by simply looking at which direction the disc is spinning in your GC when you open the lid. Hope that helps. Mouser X over and out.
I honestly don't know. I'd try a Google search for something like "Wii drive ripping" or something (I looked up "Gamecube drive ripping" and got tons of instructions on how to rip with the BBA). I would have thought there'd be a more up to date list of supported DVD drives, but I couldn't find anything newer than 8 months ago. Good luck searching. Mouser X over and out.
