Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2 2sf Gamerip by Ratiosu at 10:30 AM EDT on July 9, 2008
Hi,

I was wasting the last few days with trying to rip the music out of the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2 - Explorers of Time/Darkness games. But still no success. Browsed through tons of sites, but I could never find all parts needed to rip stuff reputable.
So, here's my question.. Does anyone know of some 2sf rips of the games, or, if not, can anyone rip them? I can upload the ROMs, if needed.
Thanks.

Regards,

You're going to need to ask Knurek to do that stuff. If those games don't work with the ripkit, then I'm likely to do them when I get around to doing them (ie, next to never).

If you'd like to rip it yourself, I can help you go through the process, but it requires knowledge of ARM9/THUMB assembly and C.

You can also visit us at #usf on freenode if you like IRC.

Do you have tutorials for both languages or know where there are any?

Sorry to say, but the Pokemon games use custom driver.

PMD2 doesn't even have music, just scripts telling it what to play.

What about being able to load the custom driver and stuff? Surely, it'll happen sooner or later.

I didn't know the DS used the ARM9 processor. I have an mp3 player that also uses it called the Meizu M6. Some people are working to tear down the code to make a rockbox for it, but it's going pretty slow from what I've seen. It makes me wonder, though, do you think it'd be possible to actually create a good working 2sf player on an mp3 player using the same processor type?

And one last question I was wondering since it's kinda related... does anyone happen to have or know where to get the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue GSF music? I know it exists as when you search, you get a blog entry stating it's been ripped and tagged, as it says so in the post, but links to a 1.5 year old rapidshare link or something that's long gone. The only hits basically are linked to the same rip.

I'd like the music because I know it sounds different than the Red version, despite being the same songs. Some like some instrument choices for the blue version better as well. I already love the music from the red version, it's some great stuff... plus I love different variations of the same great tune in games, and this game is pouring with that. P:

Thanks if you find it or got it!

DChronos, the NDS actually has a different ARM core than you might know (NTR-CPU). This core is actually two cores, an ARM9 for main stuff and an ARM7 usually for sound stuff but also for GBA software execution. So it probably isn't possible.

Also regarding Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, it might work with saptapper. If that doesn't work, annoy me about it as I need to brush up on my ARM assembly.

Aw, damn, that sucks.

What's saptapper? Are you talking about my first comment of using the custom driver for PMD Time/Darkness, since you meniton the ARM, or do you mean the PMD Blue gsf?
by Mouser X at 8:46 PM EDT on July 9, 2008
Saptapper. It's a tool used to rip GBA ROMs to GSF. While it can rip many games, it still requires some knowledge to be able to use it (you have to find the entry points of the data needed to be ripped, or something). I have no idea if saptapper will help, but it can't hurt to look I suppose. Mouser X over and out.

No matter... I think I might just ask the person this weekend for it anyway. They'll have it, and if I get it, I'll go ahead and upload it somewhere for someone to upload in the gsf archive.

@DChronos:

Here you go:

Nevermind, I got them. Thanks! I'll have a friend name them since he knows what they are. Same with PMD Blue.

I'd still like to see a 2sf rip of PMD2, considering that it'd be the only rip not ripped from online videos as meager 64kbps MP3s.

Good, i was also looking for an .gsf Rip of PMD Red Rescue Team, heh.
Thanks for ripping and Uploading!

But yea, no success for PMD2 yet, only 64kbps Crappy MP3s.
