Mario Galaxy .AW files decoding... by Coburn64 at 10:12 PM EDT on August 29, 2008
Hi.
I found some .aw files in the /AudioRes/Waves folder. However, the HCS tool that can decode AW files didn't work, and also I didn't see any JaiInit.aaw files. There's JaiSeq.arc and stuff, but nothing else.
They seem to be PCM data. I could hear some of them with loads of noise and static.
Can someone please help me? I'm keen to get Rosalina's voices from Galaxy.
As a real response, behold the braindead afc decoder. It takes an input file, assumes that the whole thing is 32kHz mono AFC, and decodes it to a file called dump.wav. This does not work quite completely for the .aws, though. AFC has 9 byte frames, and the samples with a .aw seem to be aligned by 16 bytes, so when it gets to the 2nd sample in the file chances are that it will be misaligned. If you manually cut up the file, though, you should be able to make it work.
And I already told our friend Coburn about this, just making the note here.
Thanks HCS. I managed to chop some of them up, and they sound good. However, rest are static. I think they are stored in stereo format, or something else.
I'll remain on Standby for now, and watch for any new breakthroughs. Good luck with your programming, hcs.
