ATTN: People that visited any snesmusic.org/hoot sites in the last few days by Knurek at 3:44 PM EST on January 4, 2009
So, Hoot Archive, GBS Penultimate Archive and kingshriek's ripsites.
Seems someone hacked their way into the account (don't really have a clue how, why and when) and put some malware droppers into each html file.
If you're sensible and have an antivirus with up to date bases you should be okay (though I'd do a thorough check just to be on a safe site).
If not, or god forbid you still use IE, I'm sorry to say but most probably your system is infected. Do a web antivirus scan (there's some free ones available, Kaspersky for instance) ASAP.
I thought something was up with the site. I use IE7/8, and AntiVir brought up a virus notice, twice about a PDF file... I kept refreshing to see if it was the site or something that had randomly got it, but it was the site, I thought thats odd... I quarantined them all.
Thanks for letting us know, I was worried for a while there. =)
But now yeah, it doesn't do it so thats ok then. =)
I hate FireFox, so don't even ask me to use it.

Wow! It's popping out of the template! Noscript works very well, uf.
I was never one for all those firewalls/blockers programs as they would just suck up a lot of my computer's resources, instead, I opted for BlackViper's guide, it actually is really effective. Instead of installing new software you would turn off some Windows services that are potential security holes for viruses. (Disable Protected Storage!)
Been running 2 years without getting viruses through the internet and I actually have more of my computer's resources available. :) Oh yeah, I wouldn't use IE if I were you either, Firefox 3 + No Script plug-in = BEST SECURITY EVER! :D
You will have things, without protection, I was running fine for ages, and I checked with scanner etc., you find stuff that obviously you have no idea about.
Its impossible to say "I have no viruses" without a checker...
I just checked BlackViper's guide, and he's asking people to diable USEFUL stuff... For example he says that .NET Framework should be disabled... Its used by lots of applications (not necessarially directly, but used in lots)...
He probably has some good advice, if all you want to do is have a P.C. that turns on... Plus the major fact is, he doesn't advise people NOT to install SP3, which for most people is a HUGE security hack and ruins most XP machines. Microsoft still don't want to admit it, and thats just bad... =/
NoScript is good... But not good enough for me to use FireFox, *shudder*, If you are using decent protection, then it shouldn't matter.
