RB2 Wii BIK files by benkuc at 6:36 AM EDT on September 20, 2009
Hey guys!
I recently extracted some *.bik files from the Rock Band 2 DLC. These should contain the music. I tried RAD Video Tools to listen to them, but it didn't work. Maybe someone here can help me!
BIK file which doesn't work: http://www.mediafire.com/?vm2gj4yjnqi
BIK file I found which works (from Guitar Hero 5): http://www.mediafire.com/?yzc0mi3dzni
I did some research. It seems if you remove the first 56 bytes of the file, you can open it in RAD Tools. But you won't hear any music. And if you try to extract/convert it, it crashes RAD.
That's exactly what I did and as you said (like I mentioned earlier) it crashes RAD Tools. Honestly, I doubt it's encrypted and instead might be a new type (as mentioned).
Thanks for looking at it, I look if I find some more information on these files in the Internet.

is there any reason to get the music out of the files? can't you just *get* the artists songs you want in other ways? getting music out of guitar hero/rock band/etc just doesn't make that much sense to me, considering you can likely acquire higher quality songs in *other* ways
arbingordon: There are some Rock Band Exclusive Re-Records, which you can't find anywhere. And if you record it from the game, there is SE and a phaser which distorts the music if you try to mix it.

oh, ok.
wish you luck on getting the files to work, as its been said, the files are probably custom or encrypted (I tend to think the latter, as I think they encrypt commercial music so people don't pirate the music out of their games, some stuff about licensing issues, which is kinda retarded considering you can just acquire the music in better means)
