Brutal Legend - FSB format by starerik at 2:44 PM EDT on October 15, 2009
Hi,

I just got the audio files from Brutal Legend and it's in FSB format, though it's not like Metroid Prime 3, it seems to be several tracks packed into each file. I have taken a few files and uploaded them if someone wants to try and figure them out:

Tried fsbii?

Hm, I checked it out myself and I can't make any sense of the files, is this encrypted?

The encrypted pass is "DFm3t4lFTW"

Use fsbext to extract.

Worked it out from a guitar hero decrypter, fsbii works too.

Since I can't even find fsbext, can you tell me how to work it out with fsbii, hcs?
by hcs at 12:35 PM EDT on October 16, 2009
Find fsbext at aluigi's papers site. I wrote another program to do the decryption with fsbii, best to use fsbext for now. Now that I know how simple fsb encryption is, I'm getting that "automated decrypter" bug again...

If anyone's interested I've put up guessfsb 0.0, for finding keys. It uses a consistency checking mechanism and guesses at various dimensions of the headers. Gets the keys for those Brutal Legend files in a second. I know it's not needed as it's easy to find the keys in the file, but I've written it and I might as well share it.

So I've successfully decrypted the files and extracted the streams, but they aren't playable. I have the latest vgmstream.

It's XMA, once you decrypt it use toWav.

Ah, thanks a lot!

I tried to use toWav on the streams but it doesn't work. I also tried to rebuild the streams as XMA1 but it says "error reading bitstream".
by hcs at 6:03 PM EST on January 11, 2010
Did you decrypt the streams? Also xma_test (which I assume is what you're talking about with XMA1) needs to be pointed at the start of the stream with the -o switch, you'll have to locate that.
