Super Mario Galaxy "missing tunes". by TheUltimateKoopa at 11:15 AM EDT on April 26, 2010
Does anyone know if there was supposed to be a "SMG_galaxy07_strm.ast"? It goes from 06 to 08, with no 07.
Also, although I probably mentioned this before, but the extra drums that appear on the file select screen when a file is selected are not in the streams. Were the drums sequenced?
Also, there's a version of the Megaleg Battle theme that plays before you actually go onto Megaleg. It's basically the same tune, but with only the background theme, and no melody (i.e. no brass instruments, twangy bass line or strings").. it just has a piano sound with other bits of background music... any one know why this isn't in the ISO? If it was sequenced then that doesn't make sense. Another "missing" piece is the short fanfare that happens just before you fight Bowser for the "final" time. You know when the camera zooms out to show a rather wide area, after Bowser says "Watch and weep!".

Also on a 5% related note, how early could we expect a leaked ISO of Super Mario Galaxy 2? I.e. how early in relation to the release date have previous ISOs been ripped? NSMBWii had been ripped at least a week before release, and SMG, AFAIK, about 2 weeks. This question is not so much a factual "when will it be available?", but more of an opinionated "when do you think/expect it will be available?".

Re leaks, you may also remember that the guy who leaked NSMB was sued and fined an awful lot of money. So maybe not quite as soon this time 'round.

About the missing track -- It happens when a track is unused, and the developers actually care enough to remove it from the disc before final pressing, for whatever reason (to save space, to keep us from having it, etc). It doesn't matter what company made it, what game franchise -- they're plenty of games with missing tunes, similar to this case. So yeah, i'm positively sure that "SMG_galaxy07_strm.ast" exists, just not in the hands of the public (outside Nintendo/private collector).

SMG2 - Having quite a bit of knowledge on this particular subject (prototypes/leaks) -- I don't think anyone is stupid enough to do it again... just wait for the retail version!

And what about the "missing tracks" that are in the game but not in the ISO? Are they sequenced? I know someone mentioned about the short extra brass instruments in the intro for the Megaleg music, however, what about the "Mario is on the moon, but not on Megaleg" version?
I mean this version:

Also note how the music suddenly 'changes' to the version that is in the ISO at around 2:46 when Mario first steps onto Megaleg him/itself?:

The other short fanfare I was talking about was this:

And about the leaked ISO? I was more interested in the ripped soundtrack than the actual game, in that sense. But, when the game's released in America, hopefully the soundtrack will be ripped not long after.

Well you can't rip the streams if you don't have the game.

Several of the SMG tracks have multiple versions combined together, is this "megaleg" thing one of them? You might try splitting it with the ast_multi tool that I wrote for this purpose, if you want the isolated instruments.

I've done all of that stuff. THat is, for example, I can get the Ice Mountain AND Lava Road versions of Freezeflame Galaxy, or the normal and underwater versions of Buoy Base and Beach Bowl Galaxies, etc.

I've got all the streams from the particular ISO I had.
It has 2 "Megaleg" themes. The normal one when you're on Megaleg, and the faster version when you first break the cage.
It also has the "File Select" music, but not the "File Selected" version.

Sequenced
by TheUltimateKoopa at 8:15 PM EDT on May 1, 2010
So, the extra drums on the File Selection music when you actually pick a file are sequenced? As is the "Megaleg" theme when you're not on it? So, basically, there's a mixture of streams, sequences, and then streams with sequences layered over each other?

Idiot

Also, the edited date thing is glitched. It keeps showing a fake one on top of the real one
edited sometime after Lunar became Iridescent

I'm aware that EDT is 5 hours behind me... I was talking about the "edited sometime after Lunar became Iridescent" bit.

you fail at making jokes and you should feel bad about yourself because of it.

The editing thing works as designed, it always adds the real timestamp. You can remove that if you make another edit, but the new real one will be added.
