Def Jam Rapstar - Audio Format (Sample Inside) by placedo at 12:22 PM EDT on October 6, 2010
I've been looking at one of the dlc file's for the newly released game Def Jam Rapstar on the X360, & it's one archive with files embedded in it.
From what i can see, at the very end of the file it list's the contents, although i'm only interested in obtaining the audio which seem to have the extension "tra" so presumably one of their known format's with a different extension name.
In the file i've posted here the following is in the archive for example (judging from the end of the file itself)
I looked into what Terminal Reality have done before & they did the Ghostbusters game so compared the audio files & "44 AC 00 00" seems to appear in both as does the "06 00 00 00" too but i don't know the exact format or where the files begin & end so if anyone know's what there doing would be kind enough to look into this, that would be great...
I also noticed (although am not interested) that the video format is Theora which is made with "ffmpeg2theora" although seem's to be missing all the "oggs" section's for some reason?
you could be right, alot of the newer audio games seem to be encrypting their audio files, i'll wait til the game drops before looking at any other files, perhaps there will be some sfx files on the disc in the "tra" format they use which maybe for easier comparison's to know if there encrypted or not
I was just wondering, seeing as Nintendo made a recent hissy fit over sites using ROMs to obtain images (They only had access to the ROM one day before the JP release and even then they didn't put the images up till the date of release. If Nintendo had just shut up about it then no-one would know they had been using ROMs, instead they wrote cease letters and had a stop and drew attention to it.)
got the game, there's a few archives but i guess the music is in "XB2MUSND.POD" which is 548mb & look's even stranger than the other archives, can't even see any filename's listed in this one or any of the archive's on the disc...
tried to look at documentation on it but that appears to be scrambled in archives too so gonna take a look at the xex, if i find anything, will post it here
ROMS are different because then people wouldn't buy the game and download it instead. The don't care for VGM as much because not every game gets an OST release so if you want to listen to their hard work that never gets released you can.
Still, they don't care if its music gets ripped and spread around for collectors and hobbyists but if you're making a profit ($$$), that's illegal and a lawsuit will appear. ROMs are still a different story because there are devices/emulators that will keep people from getting a physical copy of the game and pay.
just a heads up, looked at the ps3 & wii versions & it appears to be using an updated revision of the smp format, so thought i'd mention it although have no idea how to convert them.
parts of the 360 archives are compressed but the music is not, the ps3 & wii archives are not compressed at all :)
