In need of help with VGM rip from PSP. by Operandi at 3:27 PM EDT on October 28, 2010
Greetings.
I've been attempting to rip all of the music from the PSP game God Eater, though i've run into some trouble. Fortunately I stumbled on this forum...
I did a lot of searching and learned about AT3 files, and read that some of them can be disguised as .wav? I extracted a large amount of .wav files using AllMediaGrabber, and since none of them play in Winamp or any other player I'm under the assumption that they have the files I'm in need of.
Pardon the skimpy description, but I've been busy getting into ripping music from PS2 games as well, which fortunately has been more successful. Anyway, there was one open .AT3 in the root of the ISO, but I've had no luck getting a hold of any others. My main question is: are there any other methods that the music files could be stored in the .iso, and if so what is the best way/program to extract them, at least to a format that can easily be converted?
personally I rip with VGMTB if the stuff is packed into one file assuming AllMediaGrabber works as it should, rename all the *.wav to *.at3 and decode with Hi MD
Shortly after posting this I was able to get most of the .wav's made into at3's and then back to real .wav's. Unfortunately there are still a number of files which aren't playing either as original .wav or .wav's converted from at3. Are there any other files types that could be in play?
Do you mind if I ask what VGMTB is exactly? I gave the acronym a quick Google search and didn't come up with anything.
VGMTB = VGMToolbox. I still haven't used it (I keep intending to!), so I don't know if it will do what you want, but at least you now know what the acronym is for. Mouser X over and out.
I looked at VGMTB for a little while but had a bit of trouble figuring out just how to get started with extraction. I got similar results with extr25 as I did with AllMediaGrabber, but I'm still ending up with a good number of .wav files that, when renamed to .at3's and then converted back into true .wav's, can't get played with Winamp, Windows Media Player, VLC Media Player, etc..
I ripped about 7000 .wav files from the ISO that were actually playable as raw .wav files, and I've been able to rename about 100 ripped .wav's into .at3 and then convert them into playable .wav's.
I decided to upload the ones I've been having trouble with, and see if anyone here would be willing to try working with them. I already renamed them to .at3, though HiMD Renderer comes up with errors when I try to convert them into .wav.
For anyone that would like to lend a hand, the resulting audio should sound like Japanese dialogue and a few tracks with only music. Thanks.
Both are mono - the only mono files in the set you uploaded, which, according to bxaimc, won't play well with sonicstage (the decoding libraries included with HiMD Renderer are taken from Sonic Stage, IIRC) Sound Forge might be able to decode it though, I believe.
It looks like I'll have to try and mess with Sound Forge a bit tomorrow then. Were you able to get results out of the rest of the at3's?
If you did I would like to ask if you could upload them for me, though I'd be more curious on how you got them decoded. Hi-MD Renderer kept giving me the Sonic Stage OMG/OMA (?) or "Failed to create Temporary Output File" error...

I got perfect results, aside from those two files I mentioned.
Ah, I downloaded HIMD 1.00 Beta (I had been using .56 I think) and the files besides the one you mentioned did in fact come out perfectly. Fortunately I think I know what one of those last 2 are, so I'll have to try out Sound Forge as soon as I finish up this work and see what results it can hopefully yield.
