LSD: Dream Emulator PSF rip possible? by RukarioGyiyg996 at 5:52 PM EDT on July 2, 2011
I'm curious, since this game obviously uses sequences for music. Would it be theoretically possible to rip a PSF set of this? Or would it contain *WAY* too many MINIPSF's to count?

Haven't looked at the image with CDMage yet and hadn't payed much attention to the debugger but watching the audio channels freak out as it tries to mix the music and sound effects together is pretty amusing. This game really must push the PSX's sound chip to the limit since it tries to play so much audio at once.

EDIT: fixed a embarrassing typo.

"the audio channels freak out as it tries to mix the music and sound effects together"

This is how the psx spu works, it sends the samples to the next free channel.
The rip should be easy, it uses the standard seq/vh/vb/mumbo-jumbo stuff.

Well that's good to know, but still I'm nervous to attempt a rip like this because of how many MINIPSF's it be. With all the random sound banks and settings the game uses it really makes the music unpredictable every time.

Though what I really would like to rip from this game is the FMV audio. The XA's are separate of the video stream are they? If so then that's great because the FMV music is badass enough.

I'm on a laptop though so all the VGM tools I got aren't here but that shouldn't take long to get reinstalled.
Now the fun starts. by RukarioGyiyg996 at 11:00 PM EDT on July 8, 2011
After getting CD Mage and VGM ToolBox I managed to get a few PSF's out, some of them aren't playable though.

This is going to be fun since there's a ton of .SEQ's and each randomly choose a .VB .VH so I'm going to have to dump all of them out. The generic driver seems to work fine but I'm still experimenting. (I think I know why some of them don't play, because sometimes it plays a single inaudible note then stops playing anything music so it must be a "silence" track)

How does one rip the videos though so that they're playable outside of a PSX? Or is that possible without ruining the video quality?

Thanks for everything.

EDIT: Preliminary rip successful, also ripped all of the FMV audio streams too.

Davironica's generic driver does wonders on this game, there's no audio dropout or glitchs compared to the actual driver LSD used.

When I get home from "vacation" I'll put the archive up on mediafire or something. The archive needs tagging however.
