Club Nintendo Platinum Rewards for Japan by TheUltimateKoopa at 1:34 AM EST on December 20, 2011
So, some of you may know that there's a choice of 5 exclusive OSTs being released for Platinum members of Club Nintendo in Japan. I keep forgetting one, but the other 4 are Mario Kart Wii, Star Fox 64 3D, Pilotwings Resort and Wii Fit Plus.

Wherever I ask, I rarely get an answer, so maybe someone here has SOME idea?
What I want to know is, does anyone know EXACTLY when these will be available? In otherwords, when should I expect to see them ripped in FLAC and uploaded to FFShrine? :D
Apparently they're coming in "December 2011", but... it's nearly the end of the month and literally nothing. No tracklist, no information about when they're coming -- it's like they disappeared.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 9:05 PM EST on December 20, 2011
Is there some disease that causes every freaking person on the planet to not know ANYTHING about when the platinum rewards for Japan are available?
I ask at FFShrine. NO REPLY
I ask at Soundtrack Central. NO REPLY
I ask here. NO REPLY.
At least tell me I'm a dickhead, insult me, or something. Don't just... NOT REPLY!
by hcs at 9:51 PM EST on December 20, 2011
I'd consider it a waste of time to tell you I don't have anything to contribute, but if you insist

No, I have no idea. I also looked at vgmdb, which is usually pretty good with this sort of thing, no more info there. Not even any discussion.

That's where I first found out about it. But then, they haven't even updated the page since October, anyway. That's one of the reasons I asked, since they haven't updated that in over 2 months and wondered if anyone had any new information that VGMDb hadn't.

Dude I've seen you obsess over this on other forums. Chill

In otherwords, when should I expect to see them ripped in FLAC and uploaded to FFShrine? <- This might be the reason why no one wants to bother with it :P

What do you mean? All I've done is ask when they'll be available on the other forums. This is the only time I've actually mentioned FFShrine.
Are you suggesting that FFShrine is full of illegal copies of free game soundtracks? <_<
by Mouser X at 12:40 AM EST on December 21, 2011
No. He's suggesting there's better places to look. I, for one, go to the Gaming Force Forums when I have a hankering for some VGM OSTs. Or #GameMP3s. If I'm feeling *especially* lazy, then I might go to FFshrine. Generally though, I prefer Gaming Force. To be completely honest, it's been months (more likely, years) since I've been there though. My impulsive VGM collecting buzz is usually fulfilled by the rips posted on these (the HCS) forums.

I was going suggest the GFF, but I figured you'd have already checked there, or that it wasn't worth mentioning. And I agree, calm down. It hasn't even been a full day yet, so there's no good reason to get so upset about not getting an answer. I realize that frequently, questions do get answered within a few hours on this forum, but waiting a full 24 hours seems perfectly realistic, before you start going ballistic. Mouser X over and out.
by bxaimc at 10:40 AM EST on December 21, 2011
@TUK:

That's a stupid reason.

@Mouser:

That's part of the reason.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 2:19 PM EST on December 21, 2011
Well, FFShrine was just an example. Also, I've heard of Gaming Force Forums, but contrary to what you thought I've never been there (well maybe once, I can't remember).
by TheUltimateKoopa at 4:41 PM EST on December 21, 2011
I just realised that what I posted yesterday has a lot of ambiguity.
The part where I said "All I've done is ask when they'll be available on the other forums."

What I MEANT was, that, on other forums, I asked when they would be available.
But it seems you maybe misread it as asking when the other forums will have it.
by Sir-Sabin at 8:17 AM EST on December 22, 2011
what about UG?
by TheUltimateKoopa at 11:41 AM EST on December 22, 2011
UG?
by Mouser X at 12:13 PM EST on December 22, 2011
Underground-Gamer. I forgot about that place. Though, I never really went there for VGM. Games (ISOs, Goodsets), sure. TV shows, occasionally. But I've gotten very very little VGM from there. That's just me. It's certainly worth a look, and they have a forum you can ask on as well. It's possible you'll have more luck there, than here. Mouser X over and out.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 1:17 PM EST on December 22, 2011
Well that site is rubbish.
You sign up, and it says an e-mail has been sent. But how long does that take? It's been 5-10 minutes. Usually they're instant.
Also, note, just to remind you, I'm asking when it's released, not necessarily where I can find it. Although that would be nice to know as well.

Wait, what the heck is this?
"The email address ultimatekoopa@ukmidis.com was not found in the database."

So, what did I just type when I registered?

OK, now that's definitely right. It's probably 4-5 hours now. And not only have I not received the e-mail, they claim that the e-mail I registered with, is not in their database. That's one reason I can't stand the "your activation code has been sent in the e-mail". But that's not as bad as the "your account will need to be approved by an administrator", especially if said administrator is lazy, and/or isn't even on holiday. But the worst one... is when you register, and put your e-mail and username, but something goes wrong, like "Your username is too long", something like that, but for some stupid reason, your details are still added. So when you try and use a shorter name, "This username is already in use".

Anyway, I still find it odd how, despite the fact it's now December 22, and the soundtrack should be available this month, there is literally NO news whatsoever about anything, other than "it exists", "it has 43 tracks", "it's coming in December", and this is from October. Surely you'd expect a little more info, like a date?

Well it appears the tracklist has been added to VGMDb, and that's a good sign, right?
http://vgmdb.net/album/29638

However, that e-mail, that I was supposed to get about 3 days ago, to activate my account on Underground-Gamer?
That's right. It's still not here. But I'm not bothered about that.
by hcs at 8:44 PM EST on December 24, 2011
It's not on UG anyway. I'll keep an eye out for it but I really don't expect it.
by neo_chip at 9:16 PM EST on December 24, 2011
I'm just as anxious as TUK, I second a request for this :)

Has anyone here seen a lossless rip of Donkey Kong Returns Original Soundtrack floating around? Perhaps in private trackers?
by TheUltimateKoopa at 9:41 PM EST on December 25, 2011
According to the discussion forums for this album at VGMDb, the 5 OSTs (of which this is one of them) are out:
http://vgmdb.net/forums/showthread.php?t=8764

Now we just wait for them to be uploaded at some place.
by neo_chip at 11:33 PM EST on December 25, 2011
I'd hate to wait to long, perhaps I'll buy it when it surfaces on ebay :/
by neo_chip at 9:10 PM EST on December 26, 2011
Hmm its on ebay currently for $9.99 + $6 US shipping. Of course it will go up but its worth a try to those that want it outside Japan :)

Quick someone snag it
by TheUltimateKoopa at 12:53 AM EST on December 27, 2011
If there is an upload of a rip, I'd prefer FLACs, but of course MP3s would be OK... as long as they're at least 256 kbps. None of that 128 kbps crap. Heck, even MPEG themselves (as in the Moving Picture Experts Group) suggested a minimum of 160 kbps, IIRC.

Also:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=mario+kart+wii+soundtrack&_sacat=See-All-Categories

Hehe, I'm assuming they're exactly the same ones you saw, since the £6.39 is equal to $9.98 according to Google.

Wait, I just clicked on it and it says $9.99 -- these international things are confusing. US currency, on a Japanese item, on the UK site?

i'm pretty amazed at these soundtrack releases, knowing Nintendo's record as of late. Star Fox 3D is fairly useless considering the N64 game already had a soundtrack release years ago, but the other four soundtracks give me hope that more will emerge in future. so awesome to see Tomodachi Collection get a soundtrack release! plus i am hoping there'll be clarification on composer responsibilities for the Mario Kart Wii release.

still, i don't know why Nintendo insists on making them promotional items rather than full retail. there's an obvious economic incentive that they're plain ignoring. if any game company can afford to publish soundtracks for their games, they can.

i am sure rips will emerge in time. they're popular games. keep your hair on TUK. throwing your toys out of your pram because you can't immediately get the albums you want illegally... what a abhorrent attitude. no wonder no-one replies to you.
by SmartOne at 12:26 PM EST on December 29, 2011
If Star Fox 3D is like Ocarina of Time 3D, they used inferior instruments. The soundtrack will be slightly different.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 11:31 PM EST on December 29, 2011
Wait, when was I 'throwing my toys out of my pram', so to speak?

Surely the fact that no matter where I look, NO ONE has the soundtrack ripped and/or uploaded anywhere, whatsoever... can't be related to my so called 'abhorrent attitude'. I don't know what you're reading, Lunar, but I see no bad attitude anywhere.
by Lunar at 4:53 AM EST on December 30, 2011
SmartOne: yeah i'm not saying it'd be identical. i'm saying it'd be useless, much like some other DS and 3DS soundtracks.

TUK: you're always throwing a tantrum, whether it's here, youtube, ds ultimate, vgmusic in the past or elsewhere. who are you even kidding? frankly it's your problem, i'm just giving you an explanation for why people might not want to bother paying attention to you.
by mudlord at 12:52 PM EST on December 30, 2011
what lunar said.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 6:26 PM EST on December 30, 2011
That doesn't mean people should ignore me. If I'm not throwing a tantrum why should they have an excuse to ignore me?
by Knurek at 6:53 PM EST on December 30, 2011
Because you're an annoying prick.
by hcs at 8:35 PM EST on December 30, 2011
What the good people mean to say is that rhetorical flourishes like "Is there some disease that causes every freaking person on the planet to not know ANYTHING about when the platinum rewards for Japan are available?" and the recent complaints about UG put whoever reads them on the defensive. And then we think, hey, wtf is this guy doing attacking me with words. I assume you aren't actually intending to offend everyone in earshot, but rather simply venting or asking for help, yet your tone suggests otherwise. Hopefully everyone pointing it out can help you reign it in a bit, but maybe not.

Whoops, wrong rein.

by TheUltimateKoopa at 1:18 AM EST on December 31, 2011
Try actually reading beyond the first freaking page! I haven't actually been 'complaining' at all for a few days. Also, who the hell wouldn't complain about a site that can't even be bothered to send you an e-mail, and have the 'cheek' to say the e-mail you used to register "isn't in the database"?
by Mouser X at 3:49 AM EST on December 31, 2011
The post immediately above mine (by TheUltimateKoopa) is a fairly good example of what not to do. This is why people don't like responding.... The worst problem is, you don't realize that it's a problem, which is why it's so bad.

In an effort to help you "rein it in a bit", I'll attempt to provide a few pointers:

Assume everything you type on the internet will be misinterpreted as offensive. Thus, in an effort to alleviate this (but unfortunately, you can't remove it entirely), always try to post things in the absolute nicest way possible. Sugar-coat it. Add some cream. And a cherry on top. Now, someone will still take offense at this, but at least it will be fewer people.

Second - use fewer exclamation points. People interpret exclamation points as either excited, loud, or upset. Honestly, shooting for "monotone" is probably your best option, on the internet.

Third - don't expect people to pay attention to dates/times. Even if a thread is a year old, and a new post shows up, most people will read the previous post (which is a year old), as though it was recent. If the previous post was a complaint, and the newest post is a complaint, people are going to assume that's all you do. Yes, it's a generalization, and a fairly bad one. However, it's very common on the internet, so you should come to expect it.

So, I'm attempting to be my best at not being rude. I'm attempting to help you realize there's alternative ways to say the same thing (using different words), without conveying anger/frustration/complaining. If I had my ICQ chat logs, I'd show you a conversation I had years back, where someone actually told me "That's the nicest I've ever had anyone ask to [expletive...] me." They were hosting a lot of VGM OSTs on their FTP, and a good 50% of them were ones I was looking for (and were somewhat hard to find, at the time I was looking). So I asked if I could download them. And yes, I was definitely asking to abuse their internet.... But I was NICE about it! So they let me get most of the ones I was looking for.

That "pointless" event was to illustrate that it's entirely possible to say/ask something terrible, and still have people appreciate you, and even respond in a respectful manner. Usually, it requires that you show respect to them in the first place (which, obviously, can be difficult at times, but is still possible). Hopefully, with so many people saying "This is a problem", you can start to realize that maybe, just maybe, it actually is a problem, even if you're unable to see it yourself. Hopefully I posted some useful advice. Hopefully I've even been a little helpful. Hopefully I haven't used the word "hopefully" too much. Mouser X over and out.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 12:14 PM EST on December 31, 2011
The thing is, before Lunar said I was being obnoxious, I hadn't been complaining for at least 2-3 posts. Like I said, we're on the 3rd or 4th page now. Not the 1st page.
by hcs at 2:49 PM EST on December 31, 2011
That's the insidious thing, refer in part to Mouser's third point. There was nothing specifically wrong with the recent posts (besides the complaints about UG being somewhat misdirected as no one here can help you), but consider that we have very little contact with you. What may have been a brief outburst on your part weeks ago, completely forgotten 5 minutes later, is still a large part of how we perceive you. In this context, something like "None of that 128 kbps crap" becomes part of this narrative of you getting upset at not being provided with your every whim.

I'm done with trying to explain this. It's wrong of us to feel like you're a jerk because of something as vague as tone, but that's how it is.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 4:39 PM EST on December 31, 2011
Well, someone apparently got hold of the soundtrack (Vegeta on FFShrine), so it's looking good so far.

But admittedly, 128 kbps MP3s are really low quality, right? Well for 2011 standards any how. Or is that just me? I just feel that if you're in 2011 and you haven't even got enough space to fit a few thousand FLACs, stop using Windows 3.1 :D
by bxaimc at 3:51 AM EST on January 1, 2012
Alas! the bitching is over! (hopefully)
by TheUltimateKoopa at 11:51 AM EST on January 1, 2012
Yeah... hopefully.
Now if only FFShrine didn't have 5 billion fatal/database errors every day.
by Lunar at 2:43 PM EST on January 1, 2012
if only someone would donate to ffshrine so they could keep things running smoothly. if only!
by TheUltimateKoopa at 2:00 PM EST on January 2, 2012
Exactly. And guess what it's doing again. Seriously, this is getting annoying. Seriously, why don't they freaking take it down and then fix it? Or is it that vBulletin is crap?

Before you say there are other sites, that's not the point. I don't just go there to download songs, I do actually post in there, as you see. I'm also waiting for specific members to send me things.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 9:10 PM EST on January 2, 2012
I accidentally deleted all my cookies, and forgot what I changed my FFShrine password to. I need it because assett1's apparently going to send me something via profile/visitor message. For some reason, whatever I type in that image verification thing, even if it's correct, it ALWAYS says it's wrong for some reason.

EDIT: I didn't exactly remember it, exactly, I typed everything I could think of that I remember possibly changing it to, and eventually it worked, so yay?

by TheUltimateKoopa at 11:41 AM EST on January 3, 2012
No, I was just agreeing...

Wait,... you meant me, when you said "if only someone", right? Like if we were in real life, you'd go "Now if only someone would donate", and then you'd kind of glance over to me, as if to hint at me?
by Lunar at 2:22 PM EST on January 3, 2012
correct! unless you've donated, shut the fuck up and live with it like everyone else does. ffshrine doesn't owe you a thing.

by TheUltimateKoopa at 8:49 PM EST on January 3, 2012
Well how else is someone supposed to fucking send me something you fucking prick? FFShrine is the only way I've ever been able to contact this person! Also, when did I say they owed me a thing? If someone offers to send me something on FFShrine, again dickhead, how are they supposed to send it, if the site is down every fucking day, you stupid fucking piece of fucking shit?

Sorry for having an ASD... I can't help having a short temper, and you deliberately being a prick and trolling me on VGMusic so much I got angry and then my reactions got me banned. If I could help it, I would. But IIRC, in that topic about MIDIs being played on an XG Keyboard and being converted to MP3s or whatever, there was blatant trolling. I was hardly doing anything wrong and you and a few others were actually flaming me, and pretty much insulting me. And so I kind of forgot to say thank you. Did anyone ask me NICELY to thank them? No. You more or less tell me off as if I was some piece of shit.

dont anger on the internet

stay calm

get out of your seat

go outside

come back when you completely forgot about your computer life
by TheUltimateKoopa at 9:08 PM EST on January 3, 2012
You know I don't spend my entire life on the computer. I do other things, like watch TV, play on my 3DS. So I don't go outside, but that's not REALLY my fault. As I said, ASD. Also, Lunar, do you think I only swear and curse on the internet, and not in person? You do not want to know the number of times I've shouted and sworn at school. I've even sworn at a teacher once. Frankly I'm lucky I stayed there through out the whole 5 years. But then, the dickheads shouldn't have purposely started at me (the pupils not the teachers). Sometimes subtly trying to get me angry, other times going as far as just going straight to the "Hey, 'TUK', can you 'go psycho'?"

Now I await Lunar's inevitible "Boohoo, no one cares, fucking die" response.

I don't hate you Lunar (as odd as that may seem), I'm just perfectly aware that you don't JUST hate me, but actually have visions of me being brutally murdered, and are probably thinking "Just hurry up and kill him, the pathetic excuse of an unidentified object".

i dont really know how you handle it
but stressis bad
you die earlier cause of it

to me you look like someone wo cannot controll himself [further no offence with that]

iam not telling you how to live

but look at yourself from another perspective

pollish up the sharp edges every one hates

wath seems totally normal in your eyes could be a irritation to someone else

i used to be an asocial asshole that swore all the time and only thought about himself

untill my brother showed me a compilation of recordes where he sneakyly recorded me

i was shocked and decided to be another person

i know everybody says: be who you are

but sometimes thats just not the best choiche

if you have the oppertunity, dont let it walk away from you

people used to hate me, i got bullied, had suicide thoughts, my family amost died like a branch braking of a tree

i myself am proud of myself of dropping my older life and start over again at age 15 [iam 16 now]

not only cause my childhood was a nightmare, also cause i didnt like the way i was [after realizing how much of a prick i was]

and if i didnt change, i sure would have been dead this day

nowadays, i see life in a different way than i did before

people no longer hate me, they like it when iam with them, iam no longer an add on, not somethin extra, iam a full stand alone program than functions on its own

please think about
as much as i am embrassed to be a human
id like to help them out, so will i help any other animal that lives in this world

iam a die hard atheïst,
but hate is not the way to heaven, its love
hate is not the way to peace, its using the right communication

please, PLEASE get out of your seat, go outside, do not come near technoligy and discover the world you live in and realize you're not alone

sorry for spamming the enters xD
sorry for eventual grammer mistakes, i assume you know why xP
by TheUltimateKoopa at 10:28 PM EST on January 3, 2012
At the last line, I assume you're Dutch? Just based on your name. AS I said, I do sometimes go outside. Infact, to be honest, I actually go out three times a week. On Wednesdays, I go out to maybe go to the cinema and watch some movie, if there's anything I like, and also I have a McDonald's. Thursdays and Fridays I go to work from about 9 am until 2:30 pm (both days). I only have a 10-hour-per-week job. It's not paid, since it's voluntary, but I don't mind.

Also, Lunar? Without being mad at me, honestly, is there actually a thing set up to donate to FFShrine? Like have they set up a PayPal account for donations or something?
by Dutchie at 10:50 PM EST on January 3, 2012
good to read you're calmed down
iam a ''surinamer uit Den Haag''
a suriname guy from Den Haag [some random city in the netherlands], barely anybody belives it cause i look like a regular dutchman xD

anyway, good to know you have other things to do in life, since i really didnt knew wath else you did in life i assumed you where one of ''them'' [people who seriously LIVE behind their computer]
great to see you arent
i still think you should watch yourself and get rid of you stress by doing something that you like SO much, the stress will instantly vanish, also do something that has 100% accuracy, dont play your favorite video game, incase you screw up and go game over, it only increases the stress
so try something like listening some music or go have a conversation about something that like recently happend

and ehh, you can be outside, yes
but its just the matter of WATH you are doing outside
i go parkour trainging whenever i feel like and every time when iam done training, i feel so incredibely good, my day can no longer be broken
try to find your awesome 'thing' that you could do

if you dont move, you will feel depressed easyly [ive had it], just go do somthing active like basketball or anyother sport

trust me, sport is one hell of a drug, dont just let it be for wath it is, you gotta use it, otherwise you will die inside.
as much as i like video games, i dont get the kick i get from parkour when iam playing mario kart 64

the feeling 'this is fucking awesome' is something you acant find in technology, that specific feeling is an emotion and computers cannot give you those

everybody has a skill in a certern sport, use it!!

btw, waths the voluntary job you are doing?
by TheUltimateKoopa at 11:07 PM EST on January 3, 2012
I'm not allowed to say much about the job. But basically, it involves logging the successful and/or failed backups from the previous day at a hospital, as well as changing the tapes to the many servers (over 60 in total) -- they are changed daily on a cycle of 20 tapes, so generally every tape is used every 20 days or so, unless that tape goes missing somehow, which is quite common, but obviously if that's missing then that's not much of a problem, we just use the next tape, and just use it again the next day, so we don't end up one tape being out of sync if that makes sense.

Essentially it's quite an important job, and since it involves potentially confidential patient files, and other things, well... you know.

AS for games, I don't usually get overstressed on video games. I do get a bit frustrated over the 'cheap CPUs' on Mario Kart 7 on 150cc and above, but then so do many people :P

Also, hopefully Lunar will see this, and also one of my many flaws (if that's the correct word) is that I'm rubbish at apologies (I said this before somewhere recently), but basically, I'm sorry, Lunar. Mostly for that recent post.
by Lunar at 11:36 AM EST on January 4, 2012
no i don't hate you. i pity you. and wanted you to understand how ungrateful you're being.

i wasn't suggesting you should donate anything (you can if you want - i haven't and wouldn't, not to a site that is wholly illegal), i just wanted you to be aware of your sense of entitlement to everything. if you actually paid some money to the site, then maybe you could whine about it not working.

dunno how you interpreted that as "please someone murder him" but w/e. i was bullied in school too, FWIW. but i don't use it as a crutch.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 2:55 PM EST on January 4, 2012
Neither do I, normally. I was just saying how they used to provoke me (and I obviously reacted the wrong way, or in their view, the right way), and then how I was lucky to have not been expelled.
I'm not using it as a kind of "I had a tough school life and it's made me very 'unstable'" excuse.
