It's all in japanese and i have no clue what's going on but this definitely looks like new sets. So anybody is collecting this? :|

I've stopped doing all hoot work almost a year ago, and I don't think I'll come back to it anytime soon. Anyone is free to pick up where I left though.
by tails_ at 9:05 PM EST on February 10, 2012
Hmm guess I can take this. Where did you left?
by Knurek at 1:36 AM EST on February 11, 2012
Start with 2010/05/23 update, I guess.
If you need any help with the ripping process, just say so (though IIRC the hardest part was finding correct game images).
Hoot Player by Koto at 11:38 AM EST on November 14, 2012
I have downloaded the last version of Hoot player, and it is giving me some problems.

The Neogeo games don't play correctly, and the player doesn't recognise all the titles that used to get. Is there any rom set more suitable? Thanks

See ya
by Knurek at 12:38 PM EST on November 14, 2012
Check the xml definitions for the game that doesn't play and compare to your romset for hoot, it should be easy to fix from there.
by Koto at 7:32 PM EST on November 14, 2012
Thanks, that solves part of the problem. But Neo Geo Games don't play correctly, they sound very strange, like if they're lacking some sound channel. How I can fix that issue? Thanks again.

See if you have the V roms named correctly in the XML file and correct them if necessary.
by Koto at 8:46 AM EST on November 15, 2012
Mh I'm not sure what I have to do... I'll post an example to go quickly (Metal Slug).

That's the text in the SNK XML

    <game>
        <name>[Neo Geo] Metal Slug: Super Vehicle-001 (ƒƒ^ƒ‹ƒXƒ‰ƒbƒO) (YM2610)</name>
        <driver type="generic">neogeo</driver>
        <driveralias type="Arcade">SNK</driveralias>
        <options>
            <option name="adpcm_size" value="0x0800000"/>
        </options>
        <romlist archive="mslug">
            <rom type="code" offset="0x00000">201-m1.bin</rom>
            <rom type="adpcm" offset="0x000000">201-v1.bin</rom>
            <rom type="adpcm" offset="0x400000">201-v2.bin</rom>
        </romlist>
        <titlelist>
            <title code="0x02">Neo Geo Logo</title>
            <title code="0x00">[Command] Bank Switcher (Music)</title>
            <title code="0x2b">The Military System</title>
            <title code="0x21">Main Theme from Metal Slug (Mission 1)</title>
            <title code="0x22">Inner Station (Mission 2)</title>
            <title code="0x23">Assault Theme (Mission 3)</title>
            <title code="0x28">Steel Beast (Boss)</title>
            <title code="0x20">Carry Out (Misson Complete)</title>
            <title code="0x24">Ridge 256 (Mission 4)</title>
            <title code="0x25">Gerhardt City (Mission 5)</title>
            <title code="0x27">Gravestone (Game Over)</title>
            <title code="0x26">Final Attack (Mission 6)</title>
            <title code="0x29">End Title (Ending)</title>
            <title code="0x2a">Hold you still! (2 Player Game Ending)</title>
            <title code="0x2c">Nazca Logo</title>
        </titlelist>
    </game>

Those are the files included in the mslug.zip:

201-m1.bin
201-v1.bin
201-v2.bin

And this is how the Main Theme plays:

Help? :)

Currently at work, so I don't have much of a way to check, but I believe the latest hoot version requires rom type="adpcm" changed to either rom type="adpcmb" or rom type="adpcma".
by Koto at 6:18 PM EST on November 15, 2012
It works, in this case is adpcma. Thank you :)

Sorry for bumping, but I have another question about Hoot and Metal Slug 3.

Is there a way to use the Bank Switcher in Hoot like it was in M1? The track "The Kidnapping" can only be heard properly in the "SE & Voice" Bank. Thanks

by Knurek at 1:31 AM EST on November 24, 2012
@Koto: You can switch banks using [Command] Bank Switcher (Music) and [Command: Bank Switcher (SE & Voice) entries in my playlist.
by Koto at 9:20 AM EST on November 24, 2012
I don't know why it doesn't work for me, using those Commands is useless. The code used in the snk xml for [Command: Bank Switcher (SE & Voice) is "0xce". What can be the problem? I'm using the last xml you posted in xxx.joshw.info

by Knurek at 9:56 AM EST on November 24, 2012
0xce is 'The Kidnapping' command, you need to initiate Bank Switch earlier (0x1e here).
by Koto at 12:14 PM EST on November 24, 2012
Sorry, I miswrited it. I have the Bank Switch in 0x1e and The Kidnapping in 0xce.

And I do it as you say, first initiate the Bank Switch and then play the "The Kidnapping" command. Just like is done in M1, but there aren't any changes. It workes for you properly in Hoot? I'm not able to get this song.

Ah, by the way, there's a missing theme in Metal Slug X, feel free to add it:

<title code="0x31">MS_X Ending</title>

by Knurek at 1:13 PM EST on November 24, 2012
Ah, you're right, I was confused by the fact that it still was playing something.

Comparing to M1 I see now what you mean.

Unfortunately, I don't really know how to fix that, you may get better results asking on Hoot's BBS or 2ch thread
by Koto at 8:12 AM EST on January 11, 2013
Here I come again...

I'm having problems playing Bubble Bobble set on Hoot. The Main theme always mutes after 1 minute, without any logical reason.

I'm trying to downloading the last version 20121231, but the link doesn't work. Anyone have a previous version to check it out? (20111231 for example)

Thanks

See ya

EDIT: Ok, it's not only Bubble Bobble, Sunset Riders has the same problem. I think something is wrong with the "roms" set.

Downloads fine here:

http://dmpsoft.s17.xrea.com/data/hoot20121231.7z

If you want to get the earlier versions, just substitute 20121231 for 20111231 in the link, Hoot devs don't remove earlier versions from the server.

Also, have you tried reading stuff here? Hopefully will help you.
by Koto at 3:33 PM EST on January 11, 2013
Knurek, have you tried to unzip the file? It doesn't work for me.

Anyway, your FAQ solves the problem. Thanks

Yeah, I've redownloaded just to be sure - no problems here using 7-zip 9.20 - maybe you need to upgrade.

I didn't want to start a new thread so I'll ask here.

How do you log s98 from hoot? I have "s98enable=1" in the .ini file, but I don't see any options within hoot to log anything but WAV.
by Knurek at 3:45 PM EDT on March 22, 2013
It should log them automatically as long as you run a supported game (anything from PC-98 IIRC).

Using Hoot to log s98 is not really recommended, the devs don't use large enough logging resolution so they may sound worse than ones done with np2.
by dissident93 at 7:44 PM EDT on March 23, 2013
they should go into the outs folder then, right? if so then I'm getting nothing. oh well, I was just toying around with it anyway.

is that np2 method difficult to work with?
by Knurek at 4:05 AM EDT on March 24, 2013
A bit harder than Hoot, yes. Not by much though, especially if you have any DOS experience.
by dissident93 at 3:41 PM EDT on March 25, 2013
alright thanks, i'll look into it.
