Top Gear Rally - N64 music by SubDrag at 12:24 AM EST on January 16, 2014
Interesting find based on work Zoinkity and I have been doing. The game uses FastTracker v2.00 (compressed for ROM), and you can rip and actually play the .xm files straight using MilkyTracker or VLC using N64 Midi Tool now (http://goldeneyevault.com/viewfile.php?id=211). You can also rip the instrument samples if you want in Milky Tracker.
Another interesting part, is if you use MilkyTracker, you can see some interesting commentary from the composer for the instrument names. I have not heard .xm used on N64 games before, anyone know if used anywhere else?
It is a nifty soundtrack. You can restore the main menu Japanese song to US version pretty easily if desired, just copy in compressed area, I'd think.
I've had the modules from Top Gear Rally for years ~ there are 7 songs by my count, one of which is an alternate title screen song that I don't recall hearing. Barry Leitch had made them freely available via his website at the time I downloaded them, though I have no idea if that site is still up or if they're available any longer. I have a feeling the comments in the XMs aren't his but rather they're instrument names that were left in place when he imported samples from other modules into his own projects, since a lot of them don't make a lot of sense and have different author names (and don't really seem to relate to the tracks very much at all!)
Still would like a USF rip anyway though :D because tags and scrobbling. hah. Great music. I especially love the tune used for the Stripmine course. The game itself was kind of fun to play, good for zoning out and admiring scenery, but had a short shelf-life and limited replay value IME.
