Ripping Community? by Ryker Ridgley at 2:38 AM EDT on October 22, 2006
I found this place while looking for a way to get Gamecube music files (which I still don't know how to do due to the disc protection).

From the looks of it, you guys deal in game files, not "audio" files (and certainly not audiophiles), correct? Just wondering what kind of a place this is. It looks like there are some real professionals here.
by Mouser X at 4:57 AM EDT on October 22, 2006
Heh. You came too late. Gamecube audio files were hosted here for awhile, but the bandwidth got raped. As such, access to the files has been removed. If you go to in_cube's page you can download a Winamp plugin that will play audio files from many Gamecube (and some PS2) games. Take a look at the GC streamed database while you're on in_cube's page. That will give you an idea of the games that played using in_cube.

As for how to rip GC audio, it's actually quite easy, if you know how to create GCM files (Gamecube disc images), or know where to get GCM files. If you can do either of those, then find an application that can browse the inards of the GCM file. I know there's many more than this (I have them, and have used them), but currently the only one I can find on my system that reads GCM files is "gce_en_1.06.zip" Try searching for that. Hopefully it'll help you find a GCM reader.

As for creating the GCM file, I can't really help you on that. I know it requires the Gamecube broadband adapter (which I have) and some other fairly popular software from Sega (I have the game in question, but the wrong version. They fixed the exploit in the version I have). Either that, or find a place to download GCM files. Again, I can't help you on that one, because I forgot where I got mine... Really, I did. It's been nearly a year now.

Last, and not least, this community here. Yes, this is a site dedicated to ripping music from games. However, it's specifically for music from the N64. Check out the USF Central page. If you're interested in more, there's also PSF and PSF2 for Playstation and Playstation 2 games, GSF for Gameboy Advance, NSF for the original Nintendo, GBS for the Gameboy, SPC for the SNES, VGM for a few Sega systems, and of course the GC streamed audio (streamed, because it's streamed off the disc as you play the game, as opposed to most emulated audio formats which are sequenced (like MIDI files)). And, these "game files" are the EXACT music used in the actual game. At least, in most instances. However, if you're picky, then because these are almost all emulated (exluding the streamed GC music, and possibly a few other things), you might not consider them worth collecting.

And, personaly, I'd say we're audiophiles here. At least, to some degree. HCS (the person who made 64th Note, which plays the N64 music files) has put in a lot of effort to make sure that 64th Note sounds as close to the acutal hardware as he can make it. This includes excluding features because they decrease from the "authenticity" of the original music. Also, if this is of interest to you, I know that HCS has amassed quite a collection of video game music (as have I, but most of mine is emulated audio). Now, I must admit, my definition of "audiophile" might not be the same as yours (I never did look it up, so I don't know), so I'm probably not the best example here. However, hopefully I've enlightened you somewhat on what this place is about, and some of the people here.

If you'd like to know more hint hint, then please join us in the IRC chat room. We're on irc.freenode.net in #usf. Hope to see you there. Mouser X over and out.

Awesome! Will that eventually be a complete mirror? It is a shame that we have had to be without GC music downloads lately.

If I would take the time, and effort, to figure out how to get my FTP client to automatically upload (and reconnect), then it would certainly become much larger. There are a few noteable streamed sets that I don't have though, which is a disappointment for me. Hopefully, when I get a new drive (which will hopefully be quite soon, now that I have some money), I'll be able to grab the rest that I'm missing, and that some method of sharing all this will be determined (with the increase in drive space, I might start a torrent for compressed sets, and a torrent for individual files. But don't hold your breath on the compressed sets. I prefer to have them unRARed (or whatever compression means was used) as it makes it easier to access for easier listening).

But yah... I was going to upload a ton of stuff, but LEGO Star Wars II came out, and took my DVD drive over... Since then, I have gotten a job, and just haven't been able to setup my FTP client for uploading. Hopefully I'll be able to do that soon enough. Mouser X over and out.
GC sets by snakemeat at 12:03 PM EDT on October 23, 2006
Don't forget that most of the streamed sets are also being torrented at http://www.underground-gamer.com/. I've been seeding them for weeks. I know it's an invite only site, which complicates things, but it's a great way to spread the bandwith between multiple people.

On a side note, JoshW, if you need some more sets uploaded, drop me a PM on IRC. I've usually got some spare bandwith, and I believe I grabbed all of the old directory, prior to the closing.

I find this interesting. If you check the "upload" directory, you'll find some GC sets that I finished uploading about a month ago (there's a few that I just started working on just now). The interesting thing, is that some of the stuff I uploaded a month ago, was never moved to the proper directory (it was finished though), and apparently Josh uploaded some of the same stuff again.

Just to note: I've finally figured out how to setup my FTP client to do automatic uploads. Over the next few days/weeks I'll be uploading everything I have. You can take your pick from there what to keep, and what to get rid of. I've finished uploading (but not tested) the following already:

Crazy Taxi (ADP, I'm guessing, & finished a month ago)
Bleach (I finished this a month ago, at least)
Bust a Move 3000
Dragon Ball Z Sagas (both parts)
Eternal Darkness (ADP? I finished this a month ago as well)
Hello Kitty Roller Rescue
MP2D (Metroid Prime 2 Demo)
Sega GT 2002 (Finished a month ago)
WWE Wrestlemania X8 (Finished a month ago)

I'm currently uploading the following:

Bill Hatcher
Donkey Konga (J)
Metroid Prime 2
Super Smash Bro. Melee

When those are done, I'll just move onto my next DVD. I don't know what that contains just yet, since my DVD drive is in use from the current upload. Anyway, hopefully this will prove useful. And, should this be continued in the DSP distribution thread? I kind of think it's more appropriate there... Mouser X over and out.
Thanks! by Ryker Ridgley at 1:58 AM EDT on October 24, 2006
What a warm welcome!

I've grabbed 64th note. Time to make some "original soundtracks", haha.

Mouser X, you were really informative man, thanks a lot. Unfortunately, I don't have anything to give to the community here, but if anyone's interested in music in a... DIFFERENT file format (don't know if I should talk about it too much), then I'd love to share.

And JoshW, that's more than kind of you. I'll grab all the Gamecube plugins and get listening.

And, as a side note, sorry to hear about you guys' bandwith.

Does anyone have the music files for Pokemon XD?
I used to, but I seem to have lost them.

Hey, I enjoyed talking with everyone in #usf the other day. You guys are awesome.

Mouser X, that Metal Arms soundtrack I have for you..... it keeps timing out before it finishes uploading to a site. We'll have to find another way to get it to you, eh? ;)
by Mouser X at 7:04 PM EST on November 8, 2006
Cut it into pieces. Meaning, put the ZIP (or whatever it is) into another archive. But, put a size limit on the archive, so that it will be created in chunks. Make each piece like, 10 MB (that's a bit excessive, I think, but you get the idea). That should work fine. And, thanks again for finding it for me. I hope it will prove useful. Mouser X over and out.

Metal Arms for anyone who wants it. It finally completed in one upload. Good thing I don't have to split it. It's a strange one, but I hope it helps. Enjoy........
