Stuck USF Sets Needing A Push by unknownfile at 9:38 AM EST on February 20, 2007
This is a current update on the status of the USF preliminaries since hcs is too lazy to update the FAQ in more depth.
There are some sets on USF Central which cannot be finalized as the rippers credited have since disappeared. The sets in question are:
- Banjo Kazooie - Both Castlevanias - Bust A Move 99 - Kirby 64 - Rayman 2
As of yet, Banjo Kazooie is the only set that can be a good candidate for releasing thanks to ugetab's efforts.
There are also sets without tags. These sets cannot be finalized as of yet due to this issue (I mean, what kind of song title is "sparse03"?!) Sets that don't even have tagging of some sort include:
- All of the Japanese games I ripped (64 Trump Collection, Onegai Monsters, etc) - Quite a bit of Josh's rips (excluding Banjo Tooie and Conker's Bad Fur Day, see below) - Getter Love - Hybrid Heaven
Last, but not least, let's not forget those unoptimized/experimental rips! These sets are:
- Banjo Tooie (dynamic tracks not working correctly, the tempo is off) - Blues Brothers 2000 (badly optimized) - Conker's Bad Fur Day (lacks optimization, some tracks don't work, eg Worship) - Dynamix First Intro (crap overall, will never be finalized) - Dynamix Congrats Split (crap overall, will never be finalized) - Fire Electric Pen (VERY BADLY OPTIMIZED) - Gauntlet Legends (Josh's first MusyX rip, I'm not sure what the status of this is) - Nintama Rantarou 64 (one of the generic driver rips, which may or may not suck) - Robotech Crystal Dreams (was a pain in the ass to rip, I'm not going to bother with a rerip unless I am bored enough)
That's all I can think of for now. Get tagging!
~ A very frustrated person who is too lazy to finalize his own sets
Ocarina of Time (tracks missing, some need to be re-ripped) Super Mario 64 (missing track 1, Game over and a variation of Big Boo's Haunt outside the mansion) Diddy Kong Racing (dynamic tracks, some tracks missing some notes)
I may work on tagging Banjo Kazooie, when I get the free time.
Ocarina of Time is finalized. It's tagged, and uploaded, and on the site as complete. Yes, there are issues. However, it has seen full release. As such, I do not think it belongs here, since UNKNOWNFILE is refering to preliminary and incomplete rips. OoT is complete, in the sense that HCS ripped it, I tagged it (some corrections were added later), and HCS released it, since he was satisfied with what he had done, and did not have the expertise to do a better job.
Super Mario 64 is the same. HCS found 1 or 2 tracks that he didn't include, mostly because he considered them sound effects ("It'sa me, Mario!" I think falls into that). And as for the other songs you mention, HCS was unable to locate the code that alters the sequence data during runtime to create those songs. In other words, all the sounds have been seen, and ripped. To get those 2 "missing" tracks requires finding the code that alters the already existing (and ripped) tracks during runtime of said track in-game. If you provide a savestate of the game at the point that the songs in question are played, it might make things much easier.
As for Diddy Kong Racing, it is also complete. UNKOWNFILE ripped that one. If it wasn't complete, he would have listed in his post above. Notice its absence? There's a reason for this. The rip is complete. UF has tried to go through it multiple times, but has been unable to find what people are referring to in the missing notes. As I recall, the same goes for the dynamic tracks. UF has said it before, but he has done all he can for that game. If you're not satisfied with the rip, you're welcome to rip it yourself.
Just thought you might like to know why UF didn't list those games. Also, an explanation of why they *are* released, and why you're experiencing the problems you listed. Hope that clarifies things. Excluding OoT, it's very extremely unlikely that the issues you mentioned are going to be addressed. As for OoT, it's just unlikely. HCS has voiced his concern of that one a few times, but all things considered, it's unlikely he'll have the time/interest to rerip it. As such, it's unlikely that you'll see any fixes for that one.
FYI, ugetab did split the dynamic tracks for Diddy Kong Racing. It's located here.
As for Banjo-Kazooie, I made my own tags for the USF files, rearranging the track listings, and corrected a few times. I might be able to send them somehow.
Then there are some USF sets which tempos are off. Ones I know of are Super Mario 64, Yoshi's Story, MarioKart 64, the Legend of Zelda Games, and Donkey Kong 64 (which has pitch problems too). I normally use a Winamp plugin to fix these, but it is usually hard for me to find the exact settings for each set (or in SM64's case, each song), and the plugin is not available for other players. If somebody at least knows the exact differences between the speeds of the files and the speeds at which they played on the original games, I (and possibly others) would be grateful.
Let me look at all preliminary releases in the list: The World Is Not Enough: I identified the songs and the paused song was missing, even though the unknown song was the options song and sounded a little bit like that song. 1080 snowboarding: The songs are identified I thought but not tagged yet Automobili Lamborghini: There are some unknown songs in the set I have never heard, but then again I didn't play the game till the end Banjo Kazooie: thank's to ugetab I consider this one done Banjo Tooie: If there's one miniusf which is pointing to the original miniusf that is playing all channels and is having a tempo change and channel select then anyone with hex editing skills can fix this with ugetabs list Body Harvest: I thought this one was already tagged Bomberman 64: Second Attack: Untagged, haven't played the game myself Bust-a-move 99: Haven't played myself, untagged Castlevania 64(legacy of darkness): They can be released I think Clayfighter: haven't played it myself, untagged Conker's Bad Fur Day: I have tagged the set already including solving the 2 tracks that were having dynamic tracks, but was not included. Has 4 tracks missing where 2 of them are in the sound effects library(Going Down? and Conker hypnotizing the raptor cutscene), but the other 2 are Worship(used to be available as a single USF) and the Pub Doom 64: Untagged, haven't played. I found a link to download the mp3's but they all sound like ambient sounds to me Duke Nukem: Zero Hour: Looks finished to me Earthworm Jim 3D: Untagged Gauntlet Legends: Tagged, not optimized Harvest Moon 64: Tagged for half if I remember Daikatana: Still needs fixes Killer Instinct Gold: Tagged Kirby 64: Tagged Lode RUnner 3D: Tagged Mace the dark age: Not finished, untagged Mario Golf: Tagged Megaman 64: Batch file to tag preliminary list Mortal Kombat 4: Untagged Penny Racers; Untagged Pokemon Puzzle league: Untagged Pokemon Stadium 2: Tagged, but credits music is missing Quake 64: Untagged Rayman 2: Tagged Ridge Racer 64 :Tagged Rush 2: Tagged San Fransisco Rush 2049: untagged Sim City 2000: I can tag the ones that are also in the original pc game, but not the new ones that are specific to the N64 JP version. Snowboard Kids: Nees optimization, tagged Top Gear Overdrive: Untagged Turok 3: Untagged Wipeout 64: Untagged
And the who cares list: 64 trump collection Aerogauge Blues Brothers 2000 Carmageddon 64(why not adding Superman 64 too:P) Dynamix Eikou no St Andrews Fire Electric Pen Getter Love!! Cho Renai Party Game Hybrid Heaven Last Legion UX Nintama Rantarou 64 Onegai Monsters Pokemon Stadium JP(useless since we have the American/European version already) Robotech Crystal Dreams Super Bowling Virtual Pro Wrestling WCW vs. nWo - World Tour
by unknownfile at 9:49 AM EST on February 22, 2007
Good choice for the "who cares" list.
Most of those games that I ripped were done as an experiment to practice with the generic drivers and also for custom driver rips (Blues Bros, Onegai Monsters). Robotech Crystal Dreams was never released so that is why its rip is important to me.
I care about Virtual Pro Wrestling 64 and WCW vs. nWo World Tour; I have the former mostly tagged already, with just a few unknowns (04, 07, 17, 1A) remaining.
edit: just finished a preliminary tagging of WCW vs. nWo World Tour; the set seems to be missing the Intro Music.

Bump for Getter Love!! by PokeParadox at 5:04 AM EST on February 24, 2007
I kinda care about the Getter Love!! music, I wouldn't have gone to the trouble of tagging it otherwise ;) (And I'll say again... the tags are in the prelim directory.) Also the intro music rocks.
Remind me again, why are we not touching the rips by someone42 and Parasyte?
Since they apparently aren't interested in finishing them, can't we just do it ourselves? I would think that the fact that they haven't done anything with the sets in two years would be a good reason to allow others to work on them. The original ripper will still get credit anyway.
To the best of my knowledge, I think it's because of Zoopd (he ripped tons of PSFs, for those who don't know). Zoopd ripped some PSFs which were tagged, timed, etc. The tags were submitted and applied, all that remained was permission from the ripper to post it. No permission was received for some weeks, so the mirrors posted them anyway. Then, Zoopd showed up, and got pissed off that they were released without his permission. The mirrors took them down, and Zoopd eventually gave permission to post them a week(ish) later. Ever since then, no one has released a set without the rippers permission (this is why I think it's partially related to that).
Whether that's the reason or not in this case, I don't know. I *can* understand the reasononing, to a point, but by now, I tend to agree. Release them, if there's tags available... If the original ripper can be contacted, then do so. If contact is attempted, and no response given within say, 3-4 weeks (we'll give them some time. We've waited quite awhile already, so a few more weeks isn't a big deal), then I'd say give it the go-ahead. However, this is HCS's site, so we'll see what he has to say. Mouser X over and out.
I say we go with mouser's idea and blame him if anything goes wrong. So let the race to contact someone42 and Parasyte begin!
Concerning the rips I did... by Parasyte at 4:13 AM EST on March 7, 2007
Any of my rips that have been tagged and timed; feel free to release them. They are as complete as I care to do on the ripping.
I think the only (?) rip that I tagged and timed myself was Mario Kart 64, and that was because I had an existing soundtrack to listen to and base the tags from. The timing was then just done by ear/hand coordination.
Any thing else is just too much work for me (I'm a hacker, not a musician, composer, or audiophile). So I believe the people who did dedicate the time to tagging and timing these rips need to realize how much I appreciate it by getting those rips out there in a finalized form.
And if anyone feels they are incomplete, by all means, re-rip them! The rips I did were a learning experience; it was for fun. I did the best I could at the time, but I wasn't exactly going for perfection.
Any way, yeah. You've got my permission to finalize my contributions. And if you need anything further, just get a hold of me on my [game hacking] forums at kodewerx.net (ugetab suggested I post here. Tah!)
Many thanks Parasyte! So, who wants to be the brave soul to package everything up? I encourage those with access to the USF Central administration system to package these and get them updated.
OK, I am packaging the sets, and they'll be up momentarily.
Rayman 2, Kirby 64 and Castlevania 64 up. Kirby 64 now has the fixed timing in the Neo Star select, so worship me. I'd do the other Castlevania but I'm far too lazy, and Japanese class starts momentarily so yea.
I have also sent off communications to someone42, and I'll give him a week to respond before I say that the Banjo Kazooie problem is over and done with.

Banjo Kazooie final! by unknownfile at 5:23 PM EST on March 8, 2007
Here is email from someone42:
Thanks for fixing them. You may have noticed that I have "left" the *SF ripping scene, and I apologise for leaving stuff unfinished. So release the updated version whenever you want.
Banjo Kazooie is now up. Thanks to ugetab for the dynamic track findings and Maxwill and Alex Lee for the tags. Enyoj?
Thank you. by anewuser at 6:17 PM EST on March 8, 2007
The following sets have tags in the preliminary directory. These would be prime candidates to finish up. Some of the people in this list probably need to be contacted in order to complete the tags for these sets:
Banjo-Tooie Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness Conker's Bad Fur Day Duke Nukem Zero Hour Gauntlet Legends Getter Love Killer Instinct Gold Lode Runner 3D Mario Golf Mega Man 64 Ridge Racer 64 Rush 2 Snowboard Kids
Banjo-Tooie - sucky, dynamic tracks need fixing Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness - too lazy to upload Conker's Bad Fur Day - very buggy, tracks missing Duke Nukem Zero Hour - dunno Gauntlet Legends - still in experimental mode Getter Love - tagged and timed but awaiting approval from hcs Killer Instinct Gold - partially tagged Lode Runner 3D - I could tag this, but I'm too lazy Mario Golf - not sure Mega Man 64 - still not sure Ridge Racer 64 - RIIIIIIIIIDGE RACER! (not sure) Rush 2 - huh? Snowboard Kids - crappily optimized
Most of those are addressed in the FAQ, aren't they? I'll list what I know.
Banjo-Tooie - See above Castlevania - See above Conker - See above Duke Nukem - Optimization Gauntlet - See above Getter Love - HCS is busy? I think the tags are incomplete. Killer Instinct - See above Lode Runner - I don't know (Is it in the FAQ?) Mario Golf - Based on the FAQ, it looks like the tags are incomplete. Mega Man 64 - There are some streamed tracks that aren't ripped. Most of them are probably not worth having, but I'm positive they exist. Ridge Racer - See above Rush 2 - See above Snowboard Kids - See above
So, while I don't have much to provide, I hope that helps a little. Mouser X over and out.
Only thing I can say about Getter Love (since I tagged and timed it) is that it is as complete as I am able to make it. The track timings may want checking over if someone really wants to make sure but I'm fairly confident all the tracks were looped twice where necessary.
Track names are a combination of translation where possible of a sound track that was released, mixed with guesswork and as a last resort whatever description sounds correct in the context of the game.
bump bmup! I'm thinking of doing a rerip of Robotech Crystal Dreams which will work... I have the code right in front of me but not the IDB (it got deleted), so yeah...
