Castlevania - errors and missing track by valiant at 8:21 PM EDT on May 6, 2007
I noticed some errors in the Castlevania set which makes it all so more strange that Parasyte released it as complete a few weeks ago.
05 - Intrusion ===== missing the strings 06 - Watchtower ==== missing instruments at 0:59-1:26 29 - Struggle 3 - Illusionary Dance === missing instrument from 0:12 to end 36 - Staff Roll ==== the PAL version of the game has the extended (and much better version) of this song that is also present on the soundtrack
Illusionary Dance was fixed in the Legacy of Darkness-set. Watchtower is "semi-fixed" as it is a different track now due to the added drum samples. Intrusion still has the same problems and the staff roll is still from the US version.
It would be great if someone could rip them using Parasyte's data.
sometimes it would be nice to know what rom (region, version, goodname maybe) is a particular set ripped from, because gamemakers have the nasty habit of changing content across different regions/revisions of their games, particularly songs.
Other example that comes to mind is Wave Race 64. I loathe the Japanese (and American too?) version of "Port Pirates". The version I remember from the PAL game is so much nicer.
I was referring to the rips; the Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness has voice acting for one of the opening sequences describing the main character.
The original Castlevania 64 had this as well, but it doesn't seem to have shown up on the rips, even though I believe there were 2 different versions of the same track (one for each character).
There is definitely a voice over (or two) for the intro music in Castlevania 64, but it didn't show up in the rip. Probably a mistake in hacking up the save state that I used. :(
Any missing instruments could very well be attributed to using a short sampling period. Some of the tracks probably did not record entirely until they loop. It took approximately 1.5 hours to play through and rip all tracks, as it was. It was a very lengthy process.
If anyone is willing to fix them up (re-ripping or otherwise), have at it! As a bonus, here are the hacking notes that I kept. (I don't usually go into any detail in my notes. So these may not help much at all!) As long as you can make out the differences between addresses and MIPS assembly, I'm sure you can work out how to improve the rips based on these notes and a little poking around in IDA!
Good luck.
