Zack and Wiki streams by 9th Sage at 6:15 AM EST on January 18, 2008
I was wondering if anyone else has tried this game...seems to have some streams but I can't get them to play. Tried many different extensions, to see if any of the various types of DSP the plug-in supports would work (in the off chance it would work).

These particular files are .ssd

downloading now... will post back when i figure it out
by 9th Sage at 6:33 AM EST on January 18, 2008
I could send you a sample if you like. I dumped a copy from my own disc...on the plus side, all the concept art you can unlock in the game is there on the disc as bitmaps. :)
by unknownfile at 7:52 AM EST on January 18, 2008
You'd be better off contacting hcs about this matter.
by 9th Sage at 9:31 AM EST on January 18, 2008
Mostly I was just asking around, I wasn't sure if I should e-mail him or something as I don't want to seem like I'm begging for help or something (I'm sure he's a busy guy).
by hcs at 9:47 AM EST on January 18, 2008
Oh, hey, ZeldaDD? Go ahead and email, or post the files somewhere for us to have a look at.
by 9th Sage at 11:36 AM EST on January 18, 2008
I'll e-mail one to you...if you want I can torrent them as well (so everybody can check 'em out).
by 9th Sage at 1:36 PM EST on January 18, 2008
Actually, I'll just put the torrent up. Not like it's hard or anything, and I have some bandwidth to spare.

by 9th Sage at 1:52 PM EST on January 18, 2008
Hm, doesn't seem to be doing much, but I am trying to seed anyway.
by hcs at 11:14 PM EST on January 18, 2008
Fun, these are entirely headerless DSP streams. Are there similarly named small files with them? Maybe .sst or .ssh?
by 9th Sage at 12:10 AM EST on January 19, 2008
There isn't anything in that folder other than the SSD files. Now, those are in snd/streams. There is also Sound/BGM, which has a bunch of SRT files. Seems confusing to me.
by hcs at 12:15 AM EST on January 19, 2008
Hm, well, without headers these files are unusable, but I presume we should be able to find them. Could you post a list of files?
by 9th Sage at 12:36 AM EST on January 19, 2008
Of the whole disc?
by 9th Sage at 12:48 AM EST on January 19, 2008
Link

It's on Rapidshare. I DID have some webspace, but it's old, and Angelfire, and I can't remember the password, soo....yeah. :P I found an easy to use program that generates a file listing. If anyone else needs one for a similar purpose, google LS - File List Generator.
by hcs at 1:00 AM EST on January 19, 2008
Ah yes, each of the .srt files in BGM seems to pair up with a set of .ssds. Headers should be in there; if you send those along I can probably write something to attach the headers to the data.

(edit for semicolon)

SRTs

Here they are...I can send 'em direct to you if you like, but I figured I'll put them up here so the few who downloaded the torrent can have at them (I suppose I should make a new torrent as well).

The link doesn't work.
You could email them if you want (and if they are small enough). I did get your email when I finally looked for it.
by 9th Sage at 2:59 AM EST on January 20, 2008
Ok, sent them...they are pretty small.

Also, fixed link. I guess I shouldn't have assumed I copied and pasted the right URL.

I tried to just quickly splice them together using copy /b (etc) on the commandline but it wouldn't work. By changing the extension I got them to play static (as a 'standard' AFC with a runtime of like 300 minutes) so that wasn't right.
by hcs at 1:53 PM EST on January 22, 2008
ok, Zack & Wiki now supported by in_cube 0.30. You must first run zwsrt (at the bottom of the in_cube page) on each file, there is a batch file included with zwsrt that will do this for you. Check the readme.

edited 1:54 PM EST January 22, 2008

There was just one little problem: st_s_thema_f.ssd doesn't seem to have a header associated with it. It may be unused.

Ah, thanks a lot HCS. :D I just saw this on the page (happened to be checking something looking for a way to play the streams in Geometry Wars for the Wii).

Thanks for working on it..my hats off to you, you've been working on in_cube like crazy lately.

Should I bother to make a new torrent with the zwdsp files or one with the streams and the SRT headers do you think?

edited 2:54 PM EST January 22, 2008
by hcs at 3:22 PM EST on January 22, 2008
First I'd appreciate it if you'd listen through all the .zwdsps first, as I'm doing, to ensure I didn't get anything wrong. The matching for most of the music had to be done one file at a time based on file size.
After that, yeah, I think a .zwdsp torrent would make them most sense. No sense in having people bother with the tools if they're not needed.

FastElbja is working on Geometry Wars support as I type.
by 9th Sage at 3:27 PM EST on January 22, 2008
Wow, that sounds like it was a pain. O_o

Anyway, I can say, what I've heard so far sounds exactly as it should. :) I've been listening to various tracks since I saw the program.

Oh yeah, I wanted to ask..is the headerless one you mentioned the same as the one I see here (39 thema f.zwdsp)in my Winamp playlist?

Sorry, should've edited my post above. Also, that's probably a dumb question. They must be related at least.

by hcs at 6:31 PM EST on January 22, 2008
No, the headerless one is s_st_thema_f.ssd. The one you're seeing is 39_thema_f.ssd. I assume that they are the same song, except one s_st_thema_f isn't the "collectible" one (I understand little about the game but I gather there are 39 songs you can collect).
by 9th Sage at 9:21 PM EST on January 22, 2008
Yes, that's right (and your idea makes sense). I was thinking about that on listening to the songs, some of them loop when in-game they don't (mostly just one or two of the shorter fanfare type musics), so my guess is the looping is there so that some shorter songs will repeat a few times on the 'Collectible' songs menu. I don't have those ones yet or I'd test the theory.

And, by the way, everything sounds gravy to me so far. Still a few I haven't listened to, but I've listened to most tracks. I will say a few of the SFX clips don't seem to play anything, but that might be by design seeing how as in each 'group' of SFX there are some like this (as much sense as that makes). :)

Hey, guys. First of all, lemme just say thank you for making game music available like this for the rest of us non-programmer types.

So am I to understand that there will soon be a torrent or download of Zack & Wiki music that I don't have to assemble myself? Because I've got the SRTs, but the torrent with the SSDs isn't moving at all. Am I better off canceling the torrent, deleting the SRTs, and just waiting a bit for the pre-assembled music?
by hcs at 8:05 AM EST on January 23, 2008
I'd say wait for the pre-assembled music, but I'm not the one who'll be seeding it.
by 9th Sage at 10:14 AM EST on January 23, 2008
Yeah, I stopped seeding that one because by itself it wasn't of much use (sorry about that). I'll probably seed this one soon.

Er, I can't help but notice that Wily's Castle from Megaman 2 is in here...
by 9th Sage at 11:16 AM EST on January 23, 2008
Heh. :) There is a character you can find in the game that gives you a prize...there is this meter of bells, you need to keep up the beat according to this by shaking your bell (Wiimote) which is a transformed Wiki, and of course all of these songs are classic Capcom stuff.

Some others are there too, such as one of the songs from Ghouls and Ghosts (from the first level if I remember) as well as some I don't recognize. Unforunately you can't hear the extra bell sound you get in the game (from you shaking it), that must be sequenced. Still sounds neat though.

Torrent is here. Have fun folks, and thanks HCS for making it possible to play these songs. ^_^

*edit*
Does anyone know what the song in st_s_gaiko04.zwdsp is? It sounds very familliar, but I can't place it.

Sorry if it's been slow or not uploading...I was having some kind of a weird problem, I think I fixed it now though. If it's not working, someone please let me know and I'll reupload the torrent.

I just noticed a strange playback bug in (nothing major though). Nothing is wrong with the files, I just noticed by accident that the playback gets messed up if you seek backwards in one of the Zack and Wiki DSPs. Most of them it sounds like it gets staticy and pitched up, but one of the shorter ones it just stopped and went to the next track. No big, but I figured I'd mention it.

It's happening with version 032 of in_cube, dunno if it happened in other versions or not.
by Psychomax at 6:15 PM EST on February 12, 2008
Wow, I really wish I'd found this thread earlier. I've been working for the past few days trying to learn the bare-bones of Wii game hacking, and I finally got stuck when zwsrt kept returning an error... but anyways! Hello!

Did you actually see these? The only bitmap files I can find won't open with any programs I have currently.

Thanks for any help
by 9th Sage at 1:04 AM EST on February 13, 2008
I did see them, yeah. I opened them using Irfanview, if that helps. I didn't realize that there was anything different about them. O_o
by Psychomax at 1:32 AM EST on February 13, 2008
Huh, that's weird. It keeps telling me that it doesn't recognize the header. Maybe they're corrupted or something, nothing I've tried has worked to open them.
by 9th Sage at 1:37 AM EST on February 13, 2008
I'd put up 'my' files, but I accidentally deleted them after I got the music out of the folders (and playable). I'd have to dump the whole disc again...it's got me curious though, I may do that soon.

by Psychomax at 1:45 AM EST on February 13, 2008
Come to think of it, nothing to come out of this disk has worked so far. Even the zwsrt program returned nothing but "error: read SSD block header failed" and when I open files in notepad they're nothing but "RTZE08 ]ž£ Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure" over and over again.

I tried extracting everything from the .wpt again, and that didn't fix anything, so I think I may have to ED the ISO again. Oh well, at least I don't have to worry about getting the music anymore.

...is this something anyone's seen before?

Bwahahaha, that fixed it!

So that's why nothing was working! It's not very fair when they turn the rules upside down like that...

Thanks!
by 9th Sage at 1:22 AM EST on February 14, 2008
Aaah, so it was not decrypted or didn't decrypt right then?
by Psychomax at 4:52 PM EST on February 14, 2008
It didn't decrypt right, which is just weird. Are computer programs allowed to not work?

Anyways, although I got the pictures now, it looks like the more complex files still aren't working, like the sound files and .arc files. They look like actual files when I open them in notepad, but they won't work with zwsrt or rarc dump, respectively. I still get "error: read SSD block header failed"

Also, not to sound like a pest, but is there anyone else who could seed that torrent? There's only one seeder right now who keeps disconnecting, and I'm afraid it's going to end up taking as long as the ISO!
by Psychomax at 5:05 PM EST on February 16, 2008
Ah, I'm finally done with that!

Now then, does anyone know how to play the sound effects? they're in .tsb and .whd format. Does someone have to write a program to combine those, too?

Ths sound effects: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LYMX4SQ0

ps hi penguin

hey... would you mind uploading all the art bitmaps unaltered in a .zip or .rar somewhere? i would really like to have all the pictures in the game but i cant rip stuff from a wii game myself.

and could you upload the music somewhere too? theres no seeds or peers... =(

id really appreciate it!

here's the concept art gallery: http://rapidshare.com/files/93556441/bmp.rar.html

Also, I'm still seeding the music, so you should still be able to get it from there.
by 9th Sage at 11:07 AM EST on February 21, 2008
Yeah, I'll start seeding it again (the music I mean). You mean the torrent I put up with JUST the Zack and Wiki music right?
by pieman at 6:17 PM EST on February 21, 2008
its the music torrent on the previous page you put up (only torrent i saw). im dling it now. (only 1 seed so far)
Zack_and_Wiki_-_Quest_for_Barbaros_________Treasure_Streamed_Aud.3992167.TPB

~thanks!
by pieman at 10:06 PM EST on February 21, 2008
i got the music, thanks alot for seeding! :)

thanks for uploading the gallery pics too! is there any chance the "wanted poster" pics could be taken from the game as well? (ya know, when the HQ score and rank go up at the results screen).

and is there anyway to get the sound effects including the voices? (i see up a few posts it may be hard to convert them to a playable format?)

but anyway, big thanks for everything! :) i really appreciate it!
by 9th Sage at 1:40 PM EST on February 24, 2008
I myself didn't see the wanted pictures, so they are probably in a Wii specific format on the disc somewhere (had they been like the concept art and were simple bitmaps I'd have noticed), and I would have no idea how to read/convert these files into something usable on your PC.
by pieman at 10:11 PM EST on February 24, 2008
oh ok. was just wondering.
