.BIN support by nensondubois at 5:11 PM EDT on April 6, 2008
I have many Sega Saturn games that have their music in .BIN format and no players support this format. Any ideas? .ADV is not supported either but it's not as common as .BIN is.
Yeah its what lots of SS games use and I am very curious about it too.. They are usually small in size.I want to play back ones like VF3TB etc.. :-) Guess no way to emulate them yet.
on side note .. I always wished I could play back PSX Doom music also as I always had a soft spot for it but it uses .lcd files :(.. !
BTW ..any way to get music out of Raiden DX?? I included the files from the PSX rom. Guess they use the psx synth..The music from this version rocks and has a few dif. versions..
I hope someone can rip it ;) No need to use the SPU logged music then :)
Do you know if there is anyway to playback music from Burnout 2 on GC?? I know people can play BO 3etc.. but I liked the music from 2 :( tI uploaded just 2 small files so u can take a look if you want or have time :) It probably will never be supported :(
damn, the 3tb use sequenced music. sorry but i'm only into streams music. you'll have to ask to xSF people
same for raiden dx, pcmX files seems to contains samples & sndX the sequences. this one need psf
burnout 2 : strange, afaik it's a electronic arts game and it doesn't use the standard ea/xa format. need to find this to work a little bit more on this format, but it seems to be a native adpcm format.
I would have linked this sooner, but I figured someone else would beat me to it. I was also running late the last time I looked. Anyway, you're trying to get Sega Saturn audio, right? If that's the case, why didn't you look up SSFs? That's the xSF format for ripped Saturn audio. Kingshriek has a page (here) that hosts some rips, and even tools to rip your own SSF (and DSF from the Dreamcast) files. You can also check MODland for some DSF and SSF sets. I'm a little surprised that snakemeat didn't provide these links (or Knurek), since BIN files are very common for the Saturn, and in fact some of the SSF sets are distributed in BIN format.
Anyway, some of the games you've mentioned have already been ripped. Give those links a look. You might have to search around for a SSF player though (I don't have a link on hand). Good luck. Mouser X over and out.
Thanks for looking into them Fastelbja :-) Burnout is indeed strange.. it would be nice someday to listen to the VF3TB DC music .. yeah :) hopefully someone could do it someday. Well there are plenty of other music formats to entertain me tho ^_^
Try XA Player to play them or even PSMXmPlay or PSXMC which I have used to convert XA Audio to MP3 :-) I recently did Duke Nukem Total Meltdown. It rocks ;-)
for .rcf check out Game Extractor, I contributed some support for the Gamecube little-endian variant a while back. I'm fairly certain they're included in the main program now.
I have Castlevania COD so you can check it out. Its 1 large .CV2 file. ~300MB. Megauploading as we speak and also
megauploading (XA-Audio) for SFEX2+.. When it plays back with in_cube , the pitch is wrong and is skips so maybe needs some fine tuning for this format.. and each xa file has multiple songs inside.
Castlevania has vag PCM in it, sort of thing we could find in ps2 (MIB format).
i start ripping this one but i have not finish due to lack of time (lazyness ?) and made a little mod to in_cube to handle loops.
if it's XA, try my ADPCM tools @ :
http://www.freewebs.com/snakemeat/tools.htm
it will help you to extract all songs from a XA file (beware this one need to have the RIFF/CDXA header and must be copied to hdd - no direct cd rip). Afaik only cdmage can handle this file properly.
More "uncommon" formats to share ?
Sorry, take a look at the cv2 files, seems to be raw pcm, i must investigate more on this file.
The pck is used for 2 files.. Both the opening video for the game and all its BGM are in .pck files..(must be a container or something ??) I uploaded the video since its ~70mb so you can check out the .pck file :)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AJXKET6P
I wonder if you can see the video inside this file. If successful I can upload the 1GB+ .pck file which has all the music.
I tried u/l castlevania Lament of innocence but was 515mb and asking for premium user to be able to d/l it.. its here anyway if someone has premium
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TU1L9N3Q I made a booboo going over 500mb.. ! aww
^^ I will upload a split version later today ^^
The game has many .pss files but using cube media, the seem all to be video only. The only large file left is a filedata.bin (which is like 900mb uncompressed) I figured it should have music somewhere inside...Hopefully.
For the following Games I have .BIN files for Sega Saturn:
World Series Baseball Shanghai Tripple Threat Jurassic Park Alien Trilogy Saturn Bomberman (plays fine in CD player all tracks, Stereo) Virtua Fighter 2 (Also plays fine in CD player all tracks, Stereo) The Mansion of Hidden Souls - I have not tried either method yet. I have some more games but they're at my Dad's house. I'll get them in a few weeks.
"I tried u/l castlevania Lament of innocence but was 515mb and asking for premium user to be able to d/l it.. its here anyway if someone has premium"
No need i have allready ripped that one
thx for movie_s.pck <-- rename it to .pss and it will be playable by CubemediaPlayer or another PSS Player. Use MFAudio to rip the sound from this movie.
for having ripped the Guilty Gear XX Accent Core ISO, the PCK file contains RAW ADPCM which is interleaved.
Try to make a extraction (ex: 15 mb) and rename it with .INT extension. You should be able to hear something ...
Ahh thanks for that.. Yeah the intro worked fine for GG XX slash :) Didn't think of just renaming it. haha. Glad you liked it.. I like the intro for that also !
I already have the CV series OSTs on CD and bought them like GG also since I love music from those series but I am interested in the rip you have of CV LoI
or CoD if you were successful getting music from it :) Any other Castlevania rips is welcomed too.. I will happily download them if you have them store somewhere online :)Any good ones that aren't on HCS' server??
About GGXX Slash.. Yeah just renaming it to .INT plays back perfectly 1536kbps 48Khz.. Thanks :) I didn't bother cutting it yet.. Just play the huge 120min file.. ahah.. I will try to cut it if I can :)
Whats the best program to cut split it without affecting it in anyway since it is interleaved.?
Anyway thanks for your help fastelbja
Is Curse of Darkness also interleaved as it plays back but with static so guessing it may be also.
Look here for a tool that can rip various audio formats. This was written by FastElbJa, so it should be what you're looking for to split that big file. If it doesn't work, maybe he can explain how to use it (I've never used it). Mouser X over and out.
Ok I will upload the 1 large file for you or If I am home early I might try to cut it.. Any place to upload 1.2gb? hahaha...The BMG is almost identical to Midnight Carnival except a few new characters , ABA , Order Sol etc.. but is good :)
I can never get to upload to HCS.. Maybe I am doing something wrong but get denied.. lol username/pw , username/anonymous?? The pck file can be compressed to about 3% smaller.. aha so won't even bother :(
Thanks for pointing the tools out Mouser X. I think I have that already. I use Soundforge 9 also :)
I am pretty sure I have the GG XX The Midnight Carnival Korean Version also. Soundtrack is better IMO..
I own almost all CV and GG soundtracks if you want me to upload FLAC/APE too somewhere or you prefer the emulated versions.. I guess these ones (.INT) are better than 1411kbps cd audio? ;)
Long post again.. :P I'm off to work.. yes sad its a Saturday !
Thanks. I just emailed you , using my hotmail account. I already started using megauploading the .int file as I split it up into 3 parts..(part 1 done already)
I guess I will ftp the remaining parts or perhaps just the whole thing i will upload again to ftp :)
I have accent core also ,movie is different at least and again its pck :) but the bgm is basically the same after scanning through the music file.. :(..
I feel in a good mood so megauploading all my GG soundtracks in FLAC at the moment :) Will link when I'm done if you interested :)
Any progress on castlevania musics?? CoD or LoI? :-) I already own the OSTs but curious about the game disc versions ..maybe again they use 1536kbps 48khz :P
I tested my flac songs and seem fine.. I can't find proof with that program they are inferior quality.. I own the discs anyway , so can upload wav even if requested :P Which lossless format do they recommend.. lots of my music I use wav from the disc :) but they are large in size of course.
@hcs. I sent email saturday I think from my hotmail account to that email address. wicked_v............ one
Wav and ogg vorbis are recommended. I'm trying to increase national popularity of ogg instead of mp3s just so we have perfect quality recordings of everything from now on.
Ahh yes I don't use mp3 that much myself anymore..
Just convert the flac back to wave if you wish :-) Yeah I have read alot about lossy formats etc. I don't want to l isten to mp3 anymore.. Usually I prefer wav, lossless or the ripped/emulated formats like like brstms, minissf for example ;)
Ahah ripping music like this is awesome :P wonder if it kills the OST business tho. haha but not many know about it I guess ;P and besides OST usually have arranged versions not in the games :-)
- Castlevania COD : i was not able to know which format it is (for the moment at least).
It seems to be a kind of lossless compression. i think i have to find the game to work on this.
- Guilty gear XX Slash : the soundtrack is about 95% the same (if not 100%) than the one found in Guilty Gear XX Accent Core :(
(does all guilty gear xx on ps2 have the same soundtrack ?)
by the way, i cut this one, do you want me to upload the cutted files somewhere ? (but you have to be patient as my free bandwith is barely null this time).
- for the mib, there is some values in it that shoudn't be here :(
it's not from the game Time Splitters ?? i remember seeing that kind of file.
Slash, GG XX # reload, GG XX The Midnight Carnival, Accent Core and Accent Core Plus have almost the same music , except for new character lke Order Sol , ABA and a few others.. which are in the later ones like slash, AC & AC+ but yeah the music for all the above are almost identitcal.
GG XX # Reload Korean has a total different soundtrack which I like better than the original one :)..
Feel free to upload the cutted version.. I can wait :)
About the MIB.. I have no name on the disc..! I was just scanning my games for music .. ahah.. It could be TS. I was curious since the MIB crashed winamp.
About Curse of Darkness.. I see.. well the sound in game is really good so I guess it must be .. Any luck with the others... like Lament on Innocence.. I own the game and I have an image of COD if you want it :P
Take it easy :)
I was just listening to all the SSBB music.. good stuff.. I can't believe there are that many songs on the disc.. aha
Hey Fastelbja.. I just ripped and cutted the new songs from GG for you.. All in .int format 1536kbps 48Khz goodness :)
Keep in Gates (A.B.A) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=04OXM040
Keep the Flag Flying(Order-Sol vs. Ky Theme) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3S8D3E97
Get Down to Business (Order Sol) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=M9CWGRF7
Anyway enjoy for anyone thats wants them :)
If you already upped the others you mentioned I might save time and d/l from you...otherwise I can find time to cut them myself someday soon :-)

As far as Castlevania CoD, I've used this program to extract its sound to 48khz WAV in the past. Having said that, perhaps talking to Neill himself about the format would be a worthwhile venture -- especially since the format (or at least a similar one) was also used in LoI, as well as tons of other games. Just a thought.
Yeah Fastelbja those .mib files at the top of the page are indeed TS2 files.. With the latest version they play back perfectly.. No longer crash
:-)
If only TS3 worked :P TS2 already has music from TS1 also :) Its like 900mb.. I wonder where I can put it ? I remember HCS was going to give me ftp access but will see about it.
