How do I get the actual sound files? by jacfalcon at 2:22 PM EDT on April 7, 2008
Hi everyone.

The main reason I'm interested in in-cube and stuff is beacause I want the soundtrack from the game Amazing Island. I searched and requested it many times, and it comes down to trying to get it from my copy of the game. I have the disc, but I need to know how to access the files on it. Can anyone give me advice on how to get to the files on the disc so I can play them? I know how to play them as I've already installed the plugin in Winamp. I just need to move the files from the disc.

Thanks,

First, you need the ISO, not the NGC disk. While it's possible to read NGC disks with very specific DVD drives, I don't know which ones those are, and I doubt you have it anyway. On top of that, it requires a firmware modification, which I also doubt you have. In other words, the disc is useless to you if you want to rip the audio files off the game.

So, get the ISO (search for it. I'm sure you can find it), and then use Gamecube Explorer to read the ISO (you might have to rename it to GCM). Once you've done that, look through the directory structure, and see if you can find anything that looks like an audio file. Either look at extensions (DSP, ADP, ADX, CVM, AFS, etc.), or look for large files, or look for file or directory names ("audio" or "BGM" is always a good bet). If instead you find *.SND files (or some other 4 letter extension that stars with S and ends with D) or something, that usually means it's sequenced, and is therefore currently unrippable.

Anyway, that should be a fairly usable crash course in NGC audio ripping. Hope it helps. Mouser X over and out.
