I haven't selected "Use VGMToolbox methods" for scanning, do I need to redo the DATs anyway?
by Sir-Sabin at 4:30 AM EST on January 8, 2013
i can test it if you want me to

Edit: it seems it doesnt want to read 7z files.

Doesn't matter much for streams. Probably better unchecked.

Edit: it seems it doesnt want to read 7z files.

You'll need to point the rebuilder at a source directory, not individual files. It then copies extracts each one to your OS's temp folder and scans them.
by Sir-Sabin at 4:50 AM EST on January 9, 2013
i'm doing that, but it's saying i don't have them and puts them in unknown.txt file

the unknown.txt contains files that do not match Knurek's DATs. Since the .7z itself is also scanned, it doesn't match anything in his DAT. Are the contents of the .7z itself included in the have.txt, miss.txt, or unknown.txt?
by Sir-Sabin at 9:27 AM EST on January 9, 2013
only the 7z files, when they are extracted it put them in the have.txt file

by Knurek at 4:17 PM EST on January 12, 2013
I'm going through (or at least trying to) the complete Japanese PSP romset, so yeah, I should reach Hagane no Renkinjutsushi games sooner or later - so a rip is forthcoming unless they use sequences for music.
by banshiryuu at 10:22 PM EST on January 12, 2013
Is the song "Slipstream" not in the english version of Gran Turismo 3, because that song is missing from the set that is uploaded. (unless it's not and i'm being stupid)
by Sir-Sabin at 11:04 AM EST on January 17, 2013
i've using the dat to check my stuff and vgmtoolbox is leaving stuff out that's is to be there, i've check them againist the ones i've downloaded from achives and some are missing.
by snakemeat at 9:58 PM EST on January 17, 2013
Not sure what you mean, but please try the version I uploaded a page or two back. Sourceforge is still blocked from my IP for some reason.
by Sir-Sabin at 10:26 PM EST on January 17, 2013
i have vgmtoolbox_bin_2013-01-07, it's forgeting some files like Hello Kitty - Roller Rescue, it has 662 files it will only put 620 files in the rebuilt folder.
by snakemeat at 10:48 PM EST on January 17, 2013
Thanks for the details, the example helped me figure it out. The set with Hello Kitty 662 files has 40 duplicates. I'll need to look at the my code to see why it would automatically filter them in the DAT. I probably use the CRC32 as a hash key. The Datafile system was the first thing I did with VGMToolbox, and has been neglected for years, so bear with me.

You can see the dupes for yourself by opening the "Examine/Exploration Tools> Checksum Calculator/Dupe Finder" in VGMToolbox. Check the "Check for duplicates and append a report in the output." and "Move standard checksum duplicates to a subfolder, if found" checkboxes.

The 40 duplicates will be moved to a subfolder, and the output text box at the bottom will have the dupes listed. (Note: You can double click the output text box to open a text file with its contents in it. It is much easier to read that way.)

EDIT: After some testing I cannot seem to recreate a DAT file with 622 files. Knurek, does the set that you used to create Hello Kitty still have 662 files in it? Or did you happen to prune the dupes?

edited 11:06 PM EST January 17, 2013
by Knurek at 1:13 AM EST on January 18, 2013
I've pruned all the dupes in Gamecube folder before generating DAT file - my local copy has 622 files.
Haven't done so for PS1/PS2 yet, but will do so in the future.

EDIT: Actually, I'm doing system-wide dupe pruning, so if for example FIFA 2003 and FIFA 2004 share some music files, I will remove them from FIFA 2004 folder.

hey, Knurek, regarding the PSF2 archive - did you create the Enthusia Professional Racing (2005-03-17)(KCE Studios)(Konami) set yourself? Well, either way, I think there might be an error.

I admit I'm not familiar with the game myself (I was looking for more stuff by the composers who did Airforce Delta Storm), but 22.enth seems weird - it's a ~40mb file that doesn't work in Foobar with the most recent version of vgmstream, and I'm guessing it doesn't work in Winamp either, although I can't check at the moment.

At the same time, looking at the OST entry on VGMdb, it seems that the game has about 43 tracks, but there are only 22 files in the set. Doesn't it seem like half the music is probably wadded together in that file somehow? If so, could that be fixed with VGMToolbox?

man, other than hiccups like that, these archives are so convenient....I really can't thank you two enough for them.
by snakemeat at 10:30 PM EST on January 21, 2013
I looked at 22.enth. The other files appear to be Sony ADPCM, while this one clearly is not. You could probably tinker with adding GENH headers to figure it out. Based on size alone, it could be some sort of PCM.
by Knurek at 2:27 PM EST on January 22, 2013

is there a way to play the XMD files from Castlevania: Curse of Darkness (Xbox) yet? If not, could it (and possibly similar streaming sets) be separated to a different folder that marks them as unplayable?
by Knurek at 11:17 AM EST on January 30, 2013
Post names of sets here and I will mark them on the server - I haven't listened to even 10% of the rips out there, so I can't really tell what is and what isn't playable.
Incorrect GENH header sample rates by soneek at 11:35 AM EST on January 30, 2013
In the Tales of Destiny - Director's Cut stream set for PS2, the GENH headers were labeled incorrectly. The correct sample rate is 48000 for all of them.

I'm going through the songs later today to adjust them, so I'll post a fixed set here to be added to psf2.joshw.info if that's okay.

Edit: Eh, I'll add custom loop points for them as well. I'm creating BRSTMs from them anyway, so it's not really going out of my way. I'll upload a looped GENH set this weekend at the latest.

Demos:

312 Motoi Sakuraba, Shinji Tamura - Lion-Irony of Fate.genh
412 Motoi Sakuraba, Shinji Tamura - The Last Judgement.genh
417 Motoi Sakuraba, Shinji Tamura - Rebel Against Destiny.genh

"010 - Sunny Park Colossuem" and "011 - Sunset Colossuem" should have their names switched in the Pokemon Battle Revolution set. Also "Colosseum" is misspelled on them all ;)
The hoot XML doesn't contain ANY SNES information anymore? by RukarioGyiyg996 at 7:35 PM EST on February 22, 2013
Any idea why you took out all the SNES stuff out of the XML's Knurek? It worked just fine before....

... was wondering why all of the sudden every SNES set I had in HOOT vanished.
by Knurek at 1:12 AM EST on February 23, 2013
I'd rather not have to concentrate on something that is severely outdated and is playable without problems elsewhere.
by Knurek at 3:16 PM EST on February 24, 2013
JoshW, can you make x360 dir public? I'm done with uploading there.
by Josh W at 7:22 AM EST on February 25, 2013
cool, doneski
by Koto at 6:01 PM EST on February 27, 2013
Great job Knurek, can't wait for the ps3.josh.info one.

A question about Hoot which I don't see in the snesmusic FAQ: Is possible record two different songs in a same file?

For example, in Gun.Smoke if you play the Introduction of Stage 1 and next the BGM of that level, the themes merge in an unique and solid song. I would like record both songs as one, specially for this soundtrack.

Thanks

See ya
by Knurek at 6:10 PM EST on February 27, 2013
I don't think that's possible with Hoot at the moment, just use Audacity or any other sound editor to join the two files. :)
by hcs at 11:04 AM EST on March 1, 2013
Knurek: here's my proposed fix for the first post: the post starting a thread can be edited as long as any post in the thread can still be edited. This keeps things from changing too invisibly, and I suggest that the author should post something saying "oh, and I updated the first post", since many people will only be reading the last few posts.

Not implemented yet but I think it could be easily done.
by Knurek at 2:27 PM EST on March 1, 2013
Good idea, thanks for caring enough to look into it. :)
by Arlight at 8:21 PM EST on March 9, 2013
This may sound like a silly question, but is there any way to play or convert PSP .at3 files using Windows?

I'd love the day when I can play them all using Foobar2000. (:

Oh, and is it only me, or are the .7z compressed files very slow to open? I have many PS1 soundtracks that can take up to 2 minutes to start playing. Upon extracting them, they take less than a second.

Thanks!

EDIT: Talking about .at3, is there any way at all to rip samples from them? The sound quality is fantastic!

by nothingtosay at 9:18 PM EST on March 9, 2013
You have to convert them to at least WAV first if you want to use them with foobar. http://marcnetsystem.co.uk/HiMDRenderer can be used for this. You might need to have Sony's discontinued SonicStage software installed because it comes with a codec, which you can find an old installer for by searching. Once you have it and the ATRAC3 codec is on your system, Winamp should be able to play certain types of ATRAC3 files. Other will need converting and some that you may encounter aren't currently playable at all, if I'm not mistaken.

Samples can't be ripped from them because ATRAC3 is a lossy audio compression format, similar to MP3 but far less intelligent.

I don't know the specifics of how playing from 7-zip archives really functions, not sure if it decompresses it to temporary memory or something else, but it makes perfect sense to me that it's slow. It's not a format made with the aim of quick decompression for music playback and the program has to do quite a bit more processing for playback than normal.
by Knurek at 8:36 AM EDT on March 10, 2013
I haven't encountered any AT3 playback problems while using Sony's commercial SoundForge tool for decoding.

There's also a native PSP utility that can convert AT3 to WAV, but from my few tests it handles loop points incorrectly. YMMV
by Mouser X at 2:21 PM EDT on March 10, 2013
Bah! I had a post written out, but I guess my tablet doesn't like lengthy posts. It locked up, and I lost the whole thing. I'll try to shorten it as I rebuild it....

I use a plugin for Winamp to play files from archives. Since Winamp has no native support for archives, the plugin extracts the files individually. For ZIP this is fine (works great, in fact). But for RAR and 7-zip (both which compress files in groups, instead of individually), it's much slower. RAR is generally not too bad, unless the archive is really big (it works for most streamed sets even). However, 7-zip is only good on smaller archives (many, but not most, sequenced sets), and becomes unusable with large archives.

Again, this is partially because the plugin extracts the files individually, as you listen to them. But it's also because, instead of extracting only one file (as is done with ZIP), it has to extract multiple files, because RAR and 7-zip compress files in groups. So, in the extraction process, it has to short through all the files, to find the parts you want.

Hopefully this provides an adequate explanation as to why RAR and 7-zip can be slow to open, when listening to archives. I would hope it would also notify people to distribute streamed sets in ZIP files, instead of 7-zip files. With 7-zip, I have to waste space by extracting the archive, and storing the archive (thus making it so that I have two sets of the same data).

Anyway, I hope that was useful. Mouser X over and out.
by Knurek at 3:41 PM EDT on March 10, 2013
Mouser, just switch to XMPlay. It has a transparent archive plugin system, no problems on my side with 7z archives up to... uh, 500 MB.

For distribution, 7z will be used since the compression is way better than plain zip. Nothing's stopping you from recompressing them yourself.

I just tried opening with Sound Forge AT3s from two Elminage games since I had them on hand and it doesn't work. It does with OMA files though.
by Knurek at 8:59 AM EDT on March 11, 2013
You need to use quickbms AT3toAA3 script for them to work correctly with Sound Forge, I'll upload my version (which fixes plain ATRAC3 files) when I get back from work. :)

Here's my version of AT3toAA3.bms:

Talking about AT3... A Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep Final Mix set could be possible? Has some great exclusive songs, like Dark Impetus.

See ya
by Knurek at 8:18 PM EDT on March 11, 2013
JoshW, please make the psf3 dir public.
I will upload the missing stuff later, but there's no sense in keeping this private for now.
by Sir-Sabin at 11:09 PM EDT on March 11, 2013
was the 360 stuff uploaded yet?

xxx.joshw.info Music Archive thread~ No.1 site!!
JoshW&Knurek! Many thanks~ :D
by wolupgm6 at 3:10 AM EDT on March 12, 2013
You should invest in setting up a quick list, something like index.joshw.info that lists all the sub-urls (or at least the relevant ones in this case).
by Josh W at 4:44 AM EDT on March 12, 2013
Righto. psf3? not ps3?

Also, some sort of index is a good idea. I'll think about it
by Knurek at 7:27 AM EDT on March 12, 2013
Yeah, since we already have psf.joshw.info and psf2.joshw.info
by Koto at 12:03 PM EDT on March 12, 2013
Thanks for your combined efforts Josh W and Knurek.

What about KH:BBSFM AT3? Could be possible? If programming skills are not necessary and someone lend me some help, I will try by myself.

Thanks
by Knurek at 12:59 PM EDT on March 12, 2013
Hmm? I'm not sure what you're talking about, the game has been already ripped (looking at the naming scheme, by bxaimc) and is available here
by Koto at 3:23 PM EDT on March 12, 2013
I'm talking about the Final Mix version, which has some exclusive tracks.

Dark Impetus
Monstrous Monstro -Arena Ver.-
Night in the Dark Dream
Night of Tragedy
Hunter of the Dark
Master, Tell Me the Truth
Forze dell'Oscurita

I don't find it in the regular set. So, my question is if it's possible to extract AT3 in this version...

See ya
by Knurek at 5:23 PM EDT on March 12, 2013
Ah, okay, I understand you now.
I'll take a look at the game tomorrow, should be ripable, unless it uses some weird encryption scheme.
by Koto at 5:29 PM EDT on March 12, 2013
Cool, thanks Knurek.

So, PlayStation 3's format is PSF3 now?
by JILost at 10:49 PM EDT on March 12, 2013
There seems to be a problem with both Hard Corps - Uprising sets. The PSF3 one plays perfectly (going in alphabetical order) until it gets about half way through the Ending. Everything in the file after that and each subsequent file is just noise with some music buried underneat. The 360 set just plain doesn't play. Both of these results were both from Winamp and foobar and both checked through multiple downloads of both files. Maybe the archives are bad or damaged?
by bxaimc at 11:13 PM EDT on March 12, 2013
Isn't the 360 set XMA?
by banshiryuu at 11:28 PM EDT on March 12, 2013
Yeeeees Atelier Meruru!

Countless hours listening to Alas de Luz here I come ヽ( ・∀・)ノ
by Knurek at 2:04 AM EDT on March 13, 2013
Ayesha to come. :)

As for Hard Cops PS3, that's how it plays for me locally - can the person who rips it confirm whether that's intentional, or will it need either a rerip or VGMStream fix?

Should Afrika be playable with vgmstream? The files are recognized, track times displayed, but it only produces static.

Not to be rude, but I think things like that are best discussed in the VGMStream topic. Please only mention things like broken links/archives here, thank you.

Massive PSP update, 309 new/updated sets, get it here:

I've also added Yuzo Koshiro's Tokitowa to the PS3 archive.

Biggest set ever or the biggest set ever?

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Atelier Ayesha - The Alchemist of Dusk [Ayesha no Atelier - Tasogare no Daichi no Renkinjutsushi] (2012-06-28)(Gust)

10 GB (~8 GB compressed), ~1800 files, 110 hours of music.

The reason it's so large is that it has music from all previous Atelier games. I've removed few dozen files that were duplicates from Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arland, but otherwise left them intact.

Have fun with this one.
by banshiryuu at 10:05 AM EDT on March 15, 2013
Holy snap, that's huge. And here I thought Meruru was big; this is ridiculous! 10GB of my hard drive well spent~
by Mouser X at 12:56 PM EDT on March 15, 2013
Perhaps I'm the only one, but something I *really* miss from previous naming schemes, is the inclusion of the format of the files within the set (or at least the file extension). I really don't want to download a 1GB+ set, only to fine out it's XMA, AT3+, or some other format that I can't even use (at least, not without a lot of futzing around with trying to convert it to something else first). All I'm asking is for some renaming of sets. It shouldn't require reuploading anything. Obviously PS3 sets aren't going to have Nintendo DSP in them, so some exemptions would be understandable. Still it'd still be hugely helpful to me to have this information (format) available, especially since my internet access is sporadic in the best of circumstances.

Is there a reason it's been excluded in your uploads? It's not as if the information is well known.... Nor is it hard to include, so I don't see why it's been removed. I'm out of time, otherwise I'd try to make sure this post sounded better. Mouser X over and out.
by Knurek at 1:58 PM EDT on March 15, 2013
Laziness and consistency between sequenced and streamed sets. Mainly laziness.

Most of that information can be derived from the datafiles. I've noticed I didn't actually get around to uploading the PS3 one, so thanks for the post. I have no plans on adding that data to the filenames, sorry.

Atelier Ayesha uses PS ADPCM (except for three movie tracks which use ATRAC3), and is perfectly playable by VGMStream.
