Vandal Hearts and Emu Proteus by Terry93D at 2:26 PM EST on February 24, 2017
Many of the sounds in Vandal Hearts - if not all - are drawn from the Emu Proteus 2. A heavy dose of reverb has been applied.

Examples:

"Mountains (Valley of the Bandits)"
Track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJk46HkSGx4&
Sound: French Horn 2
Test: http://synthmania.com/E-mu%20Proteus-2/Audio/Factory%20Presets/037%20FrenchHorn%202.mp3
Where: Low sound in the left ear.

"Victory (Battle Results Display)"
Track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZW-TD8FXI0
Sound: Trombone 2
Test: http://synthmania.com/E-mu%20Proteus-2/Audio/Factory%20Presets/044%20Trombone%202.mp3
Where: Most audibly, the very beginning.

"Capital City Shumeria (Triumphal Return ~ War Situation Report"
Track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMfMnBgNEgw
Sound: Bass Clarinet
Test: http://synthmania.com/E-mu%20Proteus-2/Audio/Factory%20Presets/029%20BassClarinet.mp3
Where: Low clarinet sound. Can be heard playing distinct, audible notes at :03 and :12

"Shoutarou and the Bass Blue (Bewitched Tower)"
Track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0NBHkUWG1k
Sound: Snare Drum
Test: http://synthmania.com/E-mu%20Proteus-2/Audio/Factory%20Presets/058%20Percussion%201.mp3
Where: It's the snare drum.

"Karma (Sandela's Retreat)
Track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAaEuD7GzWs
Sound: Flute
Test: http://synthmania.com/E-mu%20Proteus-2/Audio/Factory%20Presets/024%20Flute.mp3
Where: It's the flute.

"Shivers (Prison Escape)
Track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DmupxsWl9A
Sound: Bassoon
Test: http://synthmania.com/E-mu%20Proteus-2/Audio/Factory%20Presets/030%20Bassoon.mp3
Where: Syncopated three notes after the clarinet's, right ear.

"Tension (The Torture Device Turns ~ Reen's Crisis)"
Track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQSh5z4ngpk
Sound: Timpani
Test: http://synthmania.com/E-mu%20Proteus-2/Audio/Factory%20Presets/050%20Timpani.mp3
Where: It's the timpani.

There are trumpets in many of the tracks but I can not figure out which.
Roland's Sound Story by G-Boy at 3:15 PM EST on February 24, 2017
I compared some samples from Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story to some instruments in the Roland SC-VA, and I think I've heard from someone on this forum that the synth bass used in the soundtrack from that game comes from the SC-88, but I can't find that sound in the VA. Does anyone know if there's a difference between the instruments in the real SC-88 and the SC-88 map in the SC-VA?

The Legend of Roland: Bandoneon of Time by G-Boy at 6:12 AM EST on February 26, 2017
I think the accordion used in the Windmill Hut theme from the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was sampled from the C6 note of the Roland SC-55 Bandoneon preset, but I'm not sure. The sample from OoT seems to be softer and looped differently than the sample from the SC-55, but maybe it's just because it's in a higher quality. I really hope it's the same sample, because I have searched for it in years!

It one of my favorite tracks in the game, since Graeme Norgate one time told me he used a jv1080 with the game.

The dulcimer instrument can be find in the user bank or similar in the world expansion card.

I think the pianos can be in the jv1080 module.

For the triangle percussion it can be find in the GM midi which was used in goldeneye.

Does anyone know where this extremely short organ sample comes from? It has been used a lot in Super Castlevania IV, and the same sample was also used in "Wonderfully Gloomy Atmosphere" from Addams Family. This makes me believe that it was included in the sample set by Roland that Nintendo offered SNES developers, but I don't know much about that set. Does someone know anything about it? I'm very curious.

Any one know that synth stab sample in the "Trainer Battle" from Pokemon Sun and Moon? You can hear it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMo4gk_7twU starting after 0:47. I think it's from the Roland SC-88 because I also hear it quite prominently in "Royal Army (Defense)" from Yggdra Union ~We'll Never Fight Alone~, which, alonside Riviera: The Promised Land, were composed by Minako Adachi (who arranged the "Trainer Battle" theme alongside Go Ichinose) and Shigeki Hayashi, and which also used a lot of SC-88 sounds, such as strings, horns, timpani, and trumpet, and likely others, but I'm not 100% positive about the SC-88 origin because I'm not too familiar with it as I'd like to be.

(BTW Yggdra Union and Riviera really make the SC-88's sounds shine. They sound amazing there.)

@Terry93D
I checked the Roland Sound Canvas VA. It's hard to hear that sound in the song (because it's streamed and the other instruments are drowning it out), so I'm not sure, but I think it's the "Syn. Calliope", "Vent Synth" or the "Halo Pad" patches from the SC-88.

Sounds like the HalionOne orchestral hit presert "Orch", which is also in Halion Sonic as the GM Orchestra Hit. Probably layered with other Halion stuff too as there's a bit of it in that song anyways.

I'll also be checking the newer "SC-88" findings of SM that you guys found

Forgot to mention, it's also worth noting that Omnisphere (1, not 2) is used in the song as well (for the electric guitar) - so if you wanna find some Adachi synths it's probably a good idea to explore that library as well, because she abuses the hell out of Omnisphere synths.

Wave Race SoundFont Update by G-Boy at 2:46 PM EST on March 10, 2017
@1983parrothead
I switched from the Polyphone soundfont editor to Viena, so the progress on the soundfont you requested is going much faster! It's much easier to rip the actual .DLS files from the game rather than ripping separate .WAV files, but it's still hard to create GM-compatible drum kits of the percussion instruments.

The preset RSS Spinner sound a like that preset plays in one of those tracks in ultra despair girls, if i could remember which one.

It also cool that i got a free sticker in my vintage card box and it fits my jv1080 very well.

Confused About the Legend of Zelda Samples by G-Boy at 5:12 AM EDT on March 12, 2017
I'm a bit confused.

I just found a GameTrailers video about the origin of the Fire Temple chants in Ocarina of Time after reading through old posts in this thread. They mentioned a thread on Zelda Universe that was created by peronmls a long time ago, but when I compared it to some of the posts in this forum, I noticed some contradictions.

I read that the HAL_AHH and the HAL_OHH choir samples from Peter Siedlaczek's Classical Choir were used in the Legend of Hyrule theme, but didn't koolaid say that the Nuns Aahh choir sample from Best Service Gigapack was used?

Were both samples used, or was koolaid or peronmls wrong?

by Kurausukun at 3:35 PM EDT on March 12, 2017
Ooh, that sounds pretty cool. I don't suppose you have that sample? I'd really appreciate it if you could upload it if so. The brass also sounds really nice, exactly like in-game, but I'm only looking for the snare at the moment. How did you make that, by the way? Do you actually have a SD-90, or can those samples be found somewhere? Also, thanks for the help.

EDIT: I found what I think might be the same sample, but the articulation is slightly different: take a listen. I was playing around with it, and I think maybe some sort of reverb was applied to it, but I can't get it to sound the same, even when I downsample it just to test--what do you think? Is this a different sample, or is it the same base sample with some reverb--and if so, what reverb settings should I use to achieve the same effect?

Most of those instruments are from a SC-88 as well. The snare is on a SC-88 also. here is the snare.
It came from one of my sample libraries. I forgot which one, however.

by Kurausukun at 12:33 AM EDT on March 13, 2017
Yeah, that is the snare I found while searching around. I might just make do with it if nobody knows, but you can tell that the version used in the games is slightly different, apart from being downsampled, right? I really do think it's just some kind of reverb or something, but I have no idea... if anyone else knows, I'd love to hear it, but I can make do with just the sample if nobody does.
by punk7890-2 at 1:04 AM EDT on March 13, 2017
The only reason it sounds different is because its a really compressed version of it and low frequency at that. But that is indeed the sample.
by Kurausukun at 1:16 AM EDT on March 13, 2017
No, I mean I downsampled it to 16000Hz just like that sample was, and it still sounded different. I don't really know the process of how the sound is converted from the sequencer to the game, so I'm not sure what Gamefreak does with their samples, but they must have done something to it.
by Ghignarda at 4:20 AM EDT on March 13, 2017
@G-Boy

Siedlaczek's libraries were also released by Best Service. It's not unlikely that the Gigapack is a compilation of other Best Service samples, thus containing the same samples.

Do you want to change the Gunshot program in a MIDI or the Gunshot preset in the VST to a drumset?
by Hexagon12 at 2:02 PM EDT on March 14, 2017

In the VST. It's the quickest way without going to a DAW and editing it to be Channel 10. Or do you have something that tells MIDIs that gunshot must be in Channel 10?

Dashboard's Not Dashing by XaikuTheMaverickHunter at 4:36 PM EDT on March 16, 2017
Okay; so I've been looking into some of the sounds available from the "Bass & Drum" expansion board for the JV-1080, and I've recognized that Sasaki Masayoshi probably got most of the percussion for Dynasty Warriors 2-5 from that sound library. I tried getting the sounds through the "Dashboard" plugin (which you can get here: http://forum.image-line.com/viewtopic.php?t=129682) in FL Studio, and whenever I play a note, it won't produce any sound, and I'm having absolutely no audio issues otherwise. Has anyone else ever worked with this and actually got sound out of it? If so, how?
by Enclave123 at 8:12 PM EDT on March 16, 2017
@XaikuTheMaverickHunter I never use a VST like that, i do have like a hardwave Jv1080 i never use dashboard tbh, have you try anything to get it work?
by XaikuTheMaverickHunter at 10:05 PM EDT on March 16, 2017
That's part of the problem; I don't even know what I should try. I pretty much need a serious case of hand-holding in order to figure its sound issue out. The manual says that the Dashboard's main function is to serve as a interface to control external MIDI devices, but since it's compatible with Dashboard presets such as the Roland XP-30, which is based off of the PCM-based keyboard/music workstation of the same name and even comes with many of the same patches, I'm not sure that controlling external devices is all it's for. However, I can't seem to figure out how to get both the XP-30 and fan-made JV-1080 Dashboard patches to produce any sound.

[EDIT] Is anyone going to respond yet? I don't mean to be rude here, but my patience with this problem is shot.

What's the source of the synth pad that was used in the beginning of "Investigation ~ The Core 2001" from Ace Attorney? Perhaps it's from the Korg Triton? It wasn't featured in the GBA version, so it doesn't have to come from a synth that's older than 2001. I checked, and I'm sure it's not from the SC-55, the SC-88 or the SC-88 Pro.

I noticed that the saxophone used in Godot's theme doesn't come from the SC-88 after all.

Here's a comparison of the two.

There's a sample specifically from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red/Blue/Time/Darkness/Sky that I need to know. It's not from any Sound Canvas or the SD-90. Can somebody help me?

About extracting from the Gigapack by Xane123 at 3:50 PM EDT on March 19, 2017
I know it was on the previous page but...

@G-Boy: Use CDXtract to listen

to and export the samples from the Gigapack; The program has limitations but allows extracting and previewing samples in the free version. I see from previous pages it didn't work for you, so if there are samples you want ripped from it, if I can get it working on my current laptop, I'll give them to you.

EDIT: Now it's two pages back!

How do you open the files in CDXtract?
by Enclave123 at 1:53 PM EDT on March 20, 2017
I find a goldeneye sample when listening to the world presets in synthmania.

http://www.synthmania.com/Roland%20SR-JV80-05%20World/Audio/214%20Rain%20Stick.mp3

It plays in one of the muitiplayer tracks, i think it call Jungle Perimeter.

I also find another familiar sounding preset it plays in the first timesplitters in the track chemical plant.

I also find another familiar sounding preset, it was use in the chinese level of timesplitters.

How to use CDXtract by Xane123 at 11:06 AM EDT on March 21, 2017
@G-Boy: Download and install the CDXtract demo then:

* Start the program and open the "Virtual drives" menu and "Open disc image".
* Locate your sample disc (like E-BSGK1.bin) and open it.
* A drive will appear in the left-most list, for me named (KRZ). Double-click that and the list of banks will appear.

That's how you open one; To preview a sample, click a bank on the second list then a sample on the third and it'll automatically play. You can save it from there.

The first bin file I extracted from the R00 files was corrupted, but when I extracted it again, it worked! Thank you so much!
by G-Boy at 12:25 PM EDT on March 21, 2017
I'm just gonna put this here in case the site you can download the Gigapack from will be down!

EDIT: I realized that it only converted the first preset, but I'll keep the link anyway.

Turns out the rock organ that was often used in rareware games like Blast Corps and Diddy Kong Racing is in the GM midi preset known as Organ 3 in my Jv1080.
by Xane123 at 6:38 PM EDT on March 21, 2017
@G-Boy: No problem; I wanted to help you get it working so you could identify instruments!

Also, it extracts only the first preset, but it allows saving any sample as a WAV file.

Also, now I wonder...I downloaded the Gigapack previously, but where to download others...

According to G-Boy's instrument list, there are some new Diamond and Pearl and Mystery Dungeon instruments. Whoever runs the Pokémon instrument list should update it.

Does anybody know where the iconic Kirby "breathy synth" comes from? If my ears aren't deceiving me, it's the same as the synth here, which should date it pretty considerably: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfdUWOsWJss&t=53

@jasper It's the Fairlight CMI "ARR1" patch

Found a new Gigapack instrument that was used in OoT!

Bank: GUIT 1 E
Preset: GUI:E-Guitar 2
Samples: GUI_Sus E 1, GUI_Sus G 2, GUI_Sus D 4
Sample CD: Best Service Gigapack (1997)
Song: Lon Lon Ranch
Game: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
by Master_E at 5:06 PM EDT on March 23, 2017
@baggagelizard
Note that it isn't a straight sample rip. I've noticed that Jun Ishikawa did a fair amount of doctoring to the EQ in the sample he uses. A little more "lead" like rather than "pad" like.

Any idea which audio library used this sample? This was used in the game 999, one of the thestreamtv's opening logo, and a few other games/clips out there.
Overly Compressed Snare by G-Boy at 4:17 AM EDT on March 26, 2017
Does anyone know the source of this acoustic snare? It's used frequently in Generation 3 of the Pokémon games. I'm trying to remaster songs from that generation with the Roland ED SC-8820, but I can't find the snare in that synth. It would be very nice if someone could find it, because I can't continue remastering the songs with percussion until I know where the snare comes from.

Pokémon Update by G-Boy at 7:30 AM EDT on March 26, 2017
@alexnaveira, I think the waveforms of the instruments in the Roland ED SC-8820 are the same as the instruments in the Roland ED SC-8850. According to Wikipedia, the SC-8820 is an inexpensive, smaller and cut-down version of the SC-8850, so the usual General MIDI instruments (like the trumpet and the strings) should sound the same. 130 sounds were "enhanced" on the SC-8850, but I doubt any of those were used by GAME FREAK.

Anyone know this loop from the Mario & Luigi RPG 3 Minigame theme?
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/182964581235163136/289584206198341634/Sample_15.wav
Link to the song in question:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWrji7vQhvg

I know Shimomura had Stylus RMX but god help me I cannot find it in there, and even though she obviously used a Roland for this game I strongly doubt the loop comes from there, especially since to my knowledge Rolands do not have such loops. I think it could actually be something by Zero-G but they have too much stuff so I never bother to check :p

The Bowser Battle theme also has a drum loop:

Any info on Wii Sports music? by EdisonB123 at 4:29 PM EDT on March 27, 2017
Any info on Wii Sports music? I'd really love the sources of the instruments as I love the music in that game and it wood be cool to recreate it. I think the guitar is from Kontakt Factory library but I can't be sure as it was released in 2006 and I don't know when the Library was released.
by punk7890-2 at 5:01 PM EDT on March 27, 2017
@SamPole its a tambourine, however I don't know which one. Probably from a Roland device.
by Hexagon12 at 8:15 AM EDT on March 28, 2017
@EdisonB123

Kontakt Factory Library was released in 2009.

@SamPole I believe that's a ride bell, all I know that it's not from any Sound Canvas.
by G-Boy at 10:26 AM EDT on March 28, 2017
@punk7890-2, could you please add the guitar sample from the Best Service Gigapack that I found earlier in this thread to your Zelda 64 Google Drive folder?

The Perc. Hit sample from Roland Sound Canvas SC-88 Pro might be used in the Metal Gear Solid theme, but I'm not sure...
by G-Boy at 12:12 PM EDT on March 28, 2017
@Master_E
I think I found the saxophone that was used in Runaway Five's Final Performance from EarthBound (you asked where it came from in 2016). It seems to be sampled from the Tenor Sax preset in the Roland Sound Canvas SC-88, but it's hard to tell because the sample is so compressed and short.
