Not the same composer since the Epic Yarn composer isn't listed among the names.
by Can of Nothing at 8:21 PM EST on December 12, 2014
Pretty sure you could just chalk it up to video game composers having the same popular gear. I'd be surprised to see someone from Kirby work for Mario-related content.

The music from its trailer at least sounds like it's the same guys, particularly Mahito Yokota.

thanks for the bump though, really, no sarcasm
by dissident93 at 9:53 PM EST on December 12, 2014
Yokota was the only composer credited in the staff roll, from what I could tell.

all this talk makes me want to get a SC-88 series sound module..

you may know this already, but..
If you want some of the SC-88 sounds without getting hardware, wait until you can find Cakewalk Music Creator 6 Touch on sale as it comes with Cakewalk TTS-1, a repackaged version of Hypercanvas, which, while only being a GM2 soundset, has lots of SC-88 waveforms. It works as a dxi plugin, and I found a vst wrapper for it. Works quite nice.

by dj4uk6cjm at 4:15 AM EST on December 14, 2014
You know someone said it was on sale a while back on the OC Remix forums, does it really have an authentic SC-88 sound? I desperately need it so, last time I checked music creator 6 was $29.95 otherwise the SC-88 module is like $100-$300 on amazon. Tell me, what is the difference to SC-88 and SC-88 Pro? Does the pro version have more features?
by starerik at 6:26 AM EST on December 14, 2014
Cakewalk are being stupid by only offering Windows versions of their software. A lot of musicians go with Mac.
by peronmls at 3:36 PM EST on December 14, 2014
@staerik "A lot of musicians go with Mac." ...for the wrong reasons. What are ya, a hipster?
by bxaimc at 4:39 PM EST on December 14, 2014
Lots of game music is composed using Logic Pro.
by Can of Nothing at 7:32 PM EST on December 14, 2014
As far as I'm aware, it seems like Mac is the standard of choice for game composers, especially on the Japanese side... Then again, they're also the kind hardware synths and rackmounts are still being made for.

not that i'm dissing them. i mean after all i have a triton sitting right next to me and i'd willingly be using a mac if i could

Is there any differences between TTS-1 and Hyper Canvas? If I recall, you don't need to save and reload the presets you had on it every time you opened a project with TTS-1, but that's all I know of.

It sounds like one of the instruments in "Lanaryu Sand Sea" from Skyward sword, but it may just be a similar instrument from the Logic Factory Library.

Recently got Spectrasonic's Vocal Planet. Haven't fully gone through it all yet but found one already.
This comes from the song in Tales of Xillia, Village of the Spirits by Motoi Sakuraba. Pretty cool sound.

EDIT: I think these samples comes from Banjo Kazooie.
EDIT2: This sample comes from this track from Onimusha Dawn of Dreams.
I've heard this choir sample somewhere before.

Okay, so I recognize some percussion from 3D World from Logic Pro as well as the sitar, and somebody said it uses Korg Triton as well. I'm still wondering what other soundfonts it uses (same with Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker).

Those are among some of my favorite soundtracks to listen to.
by Can of Nothing at 8:14 PM EST on December 22, 2014
I'm the one who brought up the Triton; it's also assumable that a Roland Fantom of some kind (either X or G, but likely the latter) is involed as well, as I'd also mentioned.

Mario Kart 8 seems to use Battery's Pop Kit for drums on some tracks. Can't remember which off the top of my head, but as usual I'm willing to search if asked.
by Can of Nothing at 9:25 PM EST on December 27, 2014
Apologies for the double post (/bump), but this question has been bugging me for a while now: does anyone know what kind of stuff Ryo Nagamatsu used for A Link Between Worlds? He's mentioned the orchestrations aren't played live, and I can definitely hear that. The instruments nevertheless seem to have a fair amount of realism to them while also having a distinct character. I'd say it's a perfect middle ground between SNES's samples and orchestra recordings - which is exactly why I'd love to get my hands on them!
by baggagelizard at 4:16 AM EST on December 28, 2014
@canofnothing

I looked into that a few months ago, I think it might be Vienna Symphonic Library.

http://vsl.co.at/en
by starerik at 4:30 AM EST on December 28, 2014
They are so god damn expensive for being so old.
by punk7890-2 at 9:33 AM EST on December 28, 2014
Most of the crash cymbals, Tubular bells, Timpani, Glockenspiel and Violin string sections and the harp from Hilda's Theme come from East West Symphonic Orchestra. Sounds like some Cello Sections and Tremolo sections are from that library also. I oddly heard Miroslav Vitous Orchestra Violin Section. (I forgot the exact name of the library. I have it laying around somewhere.) No idea where the brass and snares comes from. Wouldn't doubt that some of brass are live.
by Can of Nothing at 11:14 AM EST on December 28, 2014
The Vienna recorder sounds reasonably similar, nice!
It's a shame if the brass are indeed live. They're perhaps my favorite of all the sounds. I'm definitely surprised though that Nintendo's starting to use more recent, digital libraries, like Battery used in Mario Kart 8, as I've mentioned above.
by baggagelizard at 12:56 PM EST on December 28, 2014
from what I've heard, and as being a trumpet player, I don't think that the brass is live. I'll look into it
by baggagelizard at 5:34 PM EST on December 30, 2014
unrelated to that, but I just bought Korg M1 legacy collection, and I think that at least some of the instruments from Earthbound/Mother 2 came from the M1. Trumpet is very, very similar.
by punk7890-2 at 5:45 PM EST on December 30, 2014
No doubt you hear some similarities as the Korg M1 was used a lot in games. The harp for instance is used a lot in the Donkey Kong Country games.
I personally love that set. Contains a lot of old school synth sounds that I love.
by starerik at 7:34 PM EST on December 30, 2014
There are no live instruments in ALBW, someone said in an interview, probably Miyamoto. It didn't fit the game.
by Can of Nothing at 9:26 AM EST on January 1, 2015
David Wise's mentioned to have used the Korg Wavestation (as well as the Roland U110) for Donkey Kong Country. I'd say the harp might be from the Wavestation in that case - check it out, it's included in the Korg Legacy Collection.

I'm not sure about Earthbound: I really need to listen to more of it. My best bet would be that if nothing else, a Roland would be involved. Did any other contemporary ROMpler have samples of the TR-808?

(Wow, Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire used Battery too. I'm surprised, but then again, they've been using Addictive Drums for a while now.)
by Benjamin at 12:06 PM EST on January 1, 2015
Can of Nothing, you might be right about SM3DW's composer using a Roland Fantom. I found some Super Mario Galaxy "galactic instruments" in a sample pack I found of it.

It sounds like Stolen Grand Star (the ambient track that plays when you're in the Gateway Galaxy planet with the Grand Star that's being harvested for its power) seems to use a Low Beat-S sample from there, and I think some of the songs might use a FS Hollow and a few others, but I'm not sure. I'll probably check it out some more.
by Can of Nothing at 8:15 AM EST on January 2, 2015
Sweet! Which Fantom was it, in particular, and could I have a look in this sample pack for myself?
I'm slightly surprised by this, though. I expected the synths to be from Logic, and the faux-orchestral (such as the ones in To the Observatory Grounds, Course Select, et cetera) from the Fantom - maybe it's actually the other way around?
by Benjamin at 10:39 AM EST on January 2, 2015
Not 100% sure which Fantom it was and I'm not even sure if I'm even allowed to share it.

As for the synths, they MIGHT be Logic but I don't have evidence. As for the faux-orchestral I'm confident it is Fantom.

As for Super Mario 3D World they definitely use the Logic factory instruments (example: The percussion in Lava Rock Lair or Conkdor Canyon, and maybe a few other songs, along with the Indonesian Gamelan and Steel Drums you guys mentioned earlier), but I'm pretty sure there's some with the Fantom as well.

edited 3:49 PM EST January 2, 2015
by Can of Nothing at 9:55 PM EST on January 3, 2015
Evidently there doesn't seem to be much restriction on things like that, but I'm okay if you don't want to share it here. Even disclosing the exact name of the pack might be really beneficial, though!

I don't have a Fantom G myself so I'm sadly unable to tell anything from it... I should look for anything from the X being used in 3D World in the meantime, though.
by kode54 at 1:05 AM EST on January 8, 2015
Was Metroid Prime: Hunters already mentioned? I just noticed that the menu theme uses the same percussion loop as Amazing Life by Jem.

Guys I made a thing to show off Hyper Canvas and Pokemon R/S/E.

I'm excited to purchase a real Roland SoundCanvas SC-88. Should I spend the extra money to get the pro version?

soundcloud.com/metaknick/pokemon-rse-battle-wild
by Can of Nothing at 1:38 PM EST on January 12, 2015
Even under all that reverb and extra release (afaik) this recreation has (it's easily removable, just in case you didn't know), the resemblance is definitely apparent. Nice confirmation, kind of!

Note that Kondo has a Sound Canvas as well. The SMW steel drum is most probably it, the SM64 music box as well and I need to look into the module's strings (as unlikely it is for him to have used it, honestly), so those are more stuff you can chalk down.

Does the SC-88 Pro have more waveforms? I suppose if you're gonna buy a Sound Canvas, you may as well get everything one would have to offer...
by punk7890-2 at 3:34 PM EST on January 12, 2015
Kondo's strings from OoT/MM and Mario 64 come from Roland-L.A Composer Vol 1 and are also found on Prosonus Orchestral Strings.
by dj4uk6cjm at 3:43 PM EST on January 12, 2015
That's pretty epic if you decide to buy it! Are the hyper canvas instruments downgraded in terms of quality in mother 3? The GBA game I mean.
Diddy Kong by dkbk64 at 5:03 PM EST on January 12, 2015
I've been wondering about the origins of the samples in Diddy Kong Racing.
I think:
- The choir and fretless bass samples are from the Roland SC-55
- The strings from are from the Roland U-110
- The sitar drone and dulcimer are from the Emu Proteus 3 (World)
- The piano is from the Korg M1

That's my list so far, but I would like to know more.
by punk7890-2 at 6:22 PM EST on January 12, 2015
@dj4uk6cjm Nah, Hyper Canvas isn't a downgraded version of a SC-88. I'd imagine any sample in a GBA game is downgraded.
by baggagelizard at 6:32 PM EST on January 12, 2015
@dj4uk6cjm

HyperCanvas/tts-1 has some samples from mother 3, but many instruments (such as flute and organs) are different.

Mother 3 has some Clear JV sounds, but could have come from one of the Sound Canvases that included some of those sounds?
by dj4uk6cjm at 7:01 PM EST on January 12, 2015
Oh I see, wasn't expecting multiple answers :P thanks. I had noticed some samples like the horn, timpani, etc. in hyper canvas sounded very similar to mother 3's and if someone were to replace the original instruments from mother 3 with those higher quality ones from the other libraries it would sound better I suppose. xD

I have also been wondering about dkr coincidentally, mainly the pirate lagoon/treasure caves song and where it's instruments come from if anyone knows. That organ gets me so much.
by starerik at 7:16 PM EST on January 12, 2015
Why don't you ask David Wise himself? He's on FB.
by RebeccaSugar at 7:49 PM EST on January 12, 2015
Not knowing jack about Roland, can you just run the ripped .midi from it and get a higher quality sounding file that easy?

Or would it sound the same as with it's current soundfont that's ripped from the rom?
by dkbk64 at 8:50 PM EST on January 12, 2015
@starerik I tried. No reply.
by Can of Nothing at 8:52 PM EST on January 12, 2015
@punk7890-2: Wow, that's news to me. Anything else in particular he's used from the Roland-L.A Composer Vol. 1?

@dkbk64: Is it confirmed he's used a M1? The piano sample from it is pretty famous and has made its way into a lot of other Korg samplers as well; while I don't think he's used it, a later revision of the 01/W also had it, if I recall correctly.
by dj4uk6cjm at 9:50 PM EST on January 12, 2015
@RebeccaSugar that's what I figured. I listened to the gbamusriper version of mother 3 and while it is in higher quality than the GBA downgrade version it's still the same sound regardless, just without the GBA noise and from what users are saying here the game uses more soundbanks than I thought, per say if someone were to collect all and arrange them together and then run them through the midis it would probably sound like a console game rather than a handheld but just a guess.

@dkbk64 it's okay, he hasn't replied to anyone in months afaik.
by baggagelizard at 12:43 AM EST on January 13, 2015
@dj4uk6cjm funny you should mention that..

https://clyp.it/31gtki5a

https://clyp.it/0jcnbmiw

I lost automation when putting them together, but it sounds close enough for the amount of time i put on it. It's the midis ripped from the game, and a mix of the ripped instruments and Hypercanvas
by dj4uk6cjm at 5:13 AM EST on January 13, 2015
@baggagelizard thanks for that little demonstration! :D it sounds better than I had imagined even if you used some of the ripped instruments like you said, the Hyper Canvas truly is amazing.
by punk7890-2 at 9:41 AM EST on January 13, 2015
@Can of Nothing I'm not 100% sure but I believe the Piccolo Flute, Trumpet, Glockenspiel and the Oboe from OoT are on that disc. They sound awfully close. Hard to tell because the samples in OoT are compressed and have lost most quality quite a bit from their original form. I think a set of the alternate French Horns come from this CD also.

Also contains the Korg M1 Harp on there also. Kinda weird since its not from Roland.

Another thing thats really cool about this CD is that 90% of the samples on there are from other Roland modules (like the french horns from SC-88), but in 48Hz (SC-88 output is limited to 32000Hz)! Even have different samples based on velocity. I even spectro viewed them and they do indeed reach that resolution.

edited 3:01 PM EST January 13, 2015
by MetalKnick at 5:20 PM EST on January 13, 2015
The SC-88 is limited to 32000Hz, but on the Smash Wii U thread, it was discovered there were some Melee songs @48000Hz that were not upsampled...?

Anyway, I'm still learning things about the SC-88 and finding out more games that use it as well (Mario Kart Super Circuit, Tales of Symphonia).

Once I get it, I'm going to spend some serious time redoing music from games that used it. Golden Sun will be my first priority because that game's music is so good. I am curious though, will SC-88 have the flute and bass from that game?
by punk7890-2 at 5:39 PM EST on January 13, 2015
It most likely used interpolation which is a method of resampleing from my understanding. Basically what it would do in order to achieve 48Hz is mirror what was in the lower 16KHz shelf and copy that and put it above the 16KHz shelf. Hope that makes sense. I wouldn't worry about it anyway. Most workstations resample themselves anyway. Example would be if you're working with a SC-88 and save the wav to 44Hz. It would do what I described (it should).
by Can of Nothing at 2:41 PM EST on January 14, 2015
@punk7890-2 Are you sure the Roland L.A Composer Vol. 1 is an Akai library? I've been trying to find more information about it to little success, and what I've found suggests it's a Roland S7xx library.

Found some Tales of Symphonia samples in E-MU Classic Series Vol.3 Orchestral.
The lovely Oboe comes from it (here's a link to the full range version). Including the Timpani(one of them), celesta, glock, Orch Bells and Harpsichord. It's probably safe to say most percussion come from there. The harp (one of them) comes from a Korg M1. The Pizzicato strings come from a SC-88. I think the choirs come from a Roland JV-1080.
by SypherAP at 6:44 AM EST on January 23, 2015
Hi.

I was hoping I could have some help finding the original sample of a guitar slide(?) that I've noticed get used in a lot of games. (maybe you all already went over it at some point.) I did managed to scrape it up out of a GameBoy Advance game. But it's heavily compressed. (So I can't really use it with high quality sounds, without it sticking out like a sore thumb.) The sample in question is this. I most prominently heard it in Tecnosoft games such as Blast Wind, and Thunder force V. It was also in Melee's Super Mario Bros 3 song, Mother 3, and Fire Emblem: The Secret Stones as well.

I really have no idea where the sample originally came from, but it seems to have been a bit popular, so I figured this place would be the best place to ask about it.
by JILost at 12:13 PM EST on January 23, 2015
That guitar slide is from a Roland Sound Canvas - specifically the SC-88pro and above. Blast Wind, Thunder Force V, etc. were all done exclusively with that synth, in fact, as were quite a few from Melee. You can also hear an SC-8820 (the next model up) in all of Konami's MIDI Power Pro albums - the MIDI Power albums (as well as Dracula MIDI Collection) use an SC-55.

(@JILost) I see. I guess that would explain it. The information you gave allowed me to find out what the sample's proper name was. (Pick Scrape.) And from there, I managed locate it.

You've saved me a ton of time, so thanks.

It's also from a Roland device (maybe SC-88?), though not sure which.

Here's a full range soundfont for those interested.
by baggagelizard at 11:58 AM EST on January 28, 2015
@punk7890-2 It's in HyperCanvas, and a lower quality version of it is in VSC, yet there's differences between the actual instrument in the game in the higher pitched samples and those and the soundfont you linked.

@baggagelizard Yeah I thought it was from a SC-88/Hyper Canvas. Hyper Canvas one sounds a bit different.

Anyone heard this before? I'm pretty sure I have but can't put my finger on it.
by WDLmaster at 12:53 PM EST on January 29, 2015
Used in the Half-Life 1 Soundtrack: "Nepal Monastery" for example. The HL1 soundtrack generally consists of lots of stock sounds. There must be more than this sample alone (at least 4).

I also heard it in a few documentaries, whenever a desert is involved. In one occasion, there was an additional effect added (a ring modulator or something equally distorting) but it's been a while so I can't really remember. It was that same sample, though.

Track 81, Part 1: used in The New Tetris for the main part of the Pyramid theme. A short cutout of that same sample (near the end of it) is used in Ocarina of Time as Bongo Bongo's "singing" while he plays his … bongos. The sample is slowed down and plays at roughly 6700 Hz, thus sounds VERY bad on the N64 due to compression and interpolation but it's definitely that sample.

Track 99, Part 3: a very short cutout of that sample is regularly used in Mischief Makers in numerous songs.

Some other sounds like the OOT chants and the SM64 "bah" samples of that same Library were already mentioned earlier in this thread…

wow. Roland just released a "Sound Canvas for iOS" featuring sounds from SC-55, SC-88pro and more. May not have the same quality as the hardware, but should prove very useful for finding patches from games! :D
by starerik at 3:25 AM EST on February 2, 2015
Wait, why aren't they releasing it as VST? I really want this for OS X.
by baggagelizard at 5:20 AM EST on February 2, 2015
@starerik I read through a google translated review that supposedly the reviewer asked if there would be a vst/au version, and roland said that it wasn't planned for now but was certainly possible.

Anyone know any of the instruments/samples in Quest 64?
by Jasper at 7:05 PM EST on February 18, 2015
@punk7890-2

That sample is used in quite a number of places in Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy. Where did it come from?
by Nisto at 7:23 PM EST on February 25, 2015
Never mind..

@Jasper
It comes from Best Service Advanced Media Trax Building Blocks which is a AKAI disc.

Does anyone know what soundfonts Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door uses besides Logic Pro? I think I heard a lot of EMU Proteus VX instruments (though some sound slightly different, maybe it's the soundfont I have), but there's some I can't find in either that or Logic Pro (unless they're instruments from an earlier version)

Another small find: "NEW WORLD" from Distorted Reality was used for the Floormasters in Wind Waker.
by dj4uk6cjm at 5:06 AM EDT on March 10, 2015
Hey guys, I just found this online originally from here. Can anyone confirm if that is an authentic Roland JV 2080 soundfont?
by punk7890-2 at 9:46 AM EDT on March 10, 2015
It is indeed but it contains so little as to what a real 2080 would offer. The 2080 should have 640 presets on it.
by dj4uk6cjm at 11:31 AM EDT on March 10, 2015
Ah, okay cool! Neat find either way :D what is the difference between a JV 2080 and a JV 1080, quality?
by punk7890-2 at 1:22 PM EDT on March 10, 2015
2080 just contains different sounds. I think some but not all of the sounds are from a 1080 on the 2080.
by Can of Nothing at 8:53 PM EDT on March 10, 2015
@dj4uk6cjm I've had that pack for pretty much years now, and I can safely say that sound library is extremely lacking. From experience I can say sampling ROMplers is tedious, so most libraries tend to be far from complete, unless they're run through autosamplers that more often than not sound atrocious.

As far as just checking for samples goes you're much better off searching on SynthMania, and even if you sample off their demos to use the patches the quality difference may as well be negligible, ahaha.

It took me a bit of searching (my knowledge on this kind of stuff isn't as good as it used to be apparently), but apparently the JV-2080 has one extra bank of patches over the JV-1080, as far as samples go. There's claims that the shared patches sound subtly different between the two modules, though I wouldn't know anything about that.

I'm pretty sure I've asked this about a million times by now, but it'd be fantastic if anyone knew the source for the lead "doo" sample in the Super Mario 64 Main Theme (aka Bob-omb Battlefield). Everything else I've tried to substitute it for just doesn't have that... charm the original has.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I started uploading that Korg Triton ReFill (converted to SoundFonts); if anyone wants to use them for reference and research, I'll post the folder link here. Can't say I particularly recommend it for actual musical use, though. It's still better than most sample libraries... But that's not saying too much.

EDIT 2: Shoot, forgot to mention I found a French Horn sample used in Kirby Super Star Ultra and Super Mario 3D Land on the HyperCanvas/TTS-1. Wasn't on the SC-55 soundfont I have, so it might have been either a HyperCanvas or SC-88 exclusive, though.

EDIT 3: Would someone with Logic mind comparing the EXS factory Vibraphone patch to that from Rosalina in the Observatory 1, please? I had a discussion about it a while back, and I concluded Logic would be logically (no pun intended) the most likely source for it.

hot dang it's obvious i should be posting in small chunks more often

I didn't even think Super Mario Galaxy used Logic instruments.
by dj4uk6cjm at 8:46 AM EDT on March 11, 2015
I guess the real thing is always best huh :P does that mean if I buy a fantom keyboard theres no way I can rip the samples/presets on it? Yeah I know I'd already have the keyboard but what if I wanted the samples from it in sf2 format or share them with folks? Thanks I'll check out SynthMania but yes please share the korg triton soundfonts if you would @CON and maybe super mario galaxy 1 and 2 use samples from multiple libraries? I wish nintendo would stick to one library.

Also did you mean this sample? I don't know where it comes from either but I believe it might be nintendo's version of a electric grand piano back in those days.
by punk7890-2 at 9:30 AM EDT on March 11, 2015
@Can of Nothing
I have those French Horns samples if you need them. They do indeed come from a SC-88 (sound awesome). My version comes from a Roland sample CD in 48Hz. It also comes with 2 velocity zones which I don't think a normal SC-88 has.
by dj4uk6cjm at 10:50 AM EDT on March 11, 2015
Anyone happen to know where that choir comes from that plays in the first 10 seconds of this song in M&LSS?
by Can of Nothing at 12:04 PM EDT on March 11, 2015
@dj4uk6cjm There's plenty of ways of sampling a synth if you own it, though unless you pay a lot of attention to it the difference in quality would be noticable.
Mahito Yokota definitely owns more than one synthesizer, so it's likely that he used multiple for the Galaxies as well.

And yeah, that one - I don't think it's supposed to be an electric piano, though. I'm sure the sample was intentional to give the feeling of singing Bob-ombs, and even if it were an EP, Kondo would've simply used the other one in the game instead.

@punk7890-2 Is it Roland LA-Composer Vol. 1? You don't need to upload it if it is.

@dj4uk6cjm (again) Can't say I'm very good with choirs, sadly. It's in a bit too low quality, too, so I'm having trouble. I do know Shimomura has a Korg Trinity, though, and I think (don't quote me on this) I remember hearing a Roland in some of her stuff...
by Benjamin at 12:12 PM EDT on March 11, 2015
@Can of Nothing: I did hear some Roland Fantom instruments in Partners in Time, unless it shares plenty of soundfonts with others...

Hey guys, sorry about posting twice in a row. I found these samples from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Super Paper Mario and I'm sorry if I'm annoying you (I've asked this before with no response, I'm guessing nobody has the answer) but I really am curious as to where they came from:

Unsurprising, but it looks like Super Mario 64 is mostly Korg M1 with some SC-55 interspersed throughout, plus the samples brought up before.
by robotortoise at 8:15 PM EDT on April 14, 2015
Has anyone found any Spirit Tracks samples?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bk_xjIFlfZA

The game has some of the best music and samples on the DS, IMHO.
by Can of Nothing at 6:52 AM EDT on April 17, 2015
Kondo used the Korg M1 for Super Mario 64? That's news to me. I've been doubting its involvement in the soundtrack lately (ironic, since I were the one who "proved" he used it for Yoshi's Island, before having the Akai Sound Library XL Vol.1 shown my way), though I may have heard something that sounds vaguely similar to one of the M1's famous patches. I think it was called Lore or something to that effect?

Would someone with Logic mind checking the factory EXS library for whistle samples? I'm trying to find where the one in Sunshine Seaside comes from.
by Nisto at 11:09 AM EDT on April 17, 2015
The "fact" that Kondo is supposed to have ever used M1 is from guessing by ear... I posted a list of his gear which I marked down from a 1-Up interview (an interview which had pictures of his studio, which is now gone and seemingly was never archived) on VGMdb (in the sample thread), and M1 was not anywhere to be found. If you have proof, please provide it, don't re-iterate information that may be false.

I don't recall any SM64 samples being Korg M1 based. He mostly reused his OoT samples with a few extra.
by Can of Nothing at 3:39 PM EDT on April 18, 2015
Isn't it the other way around, punk7890-2? I thought Ocarina of Time was after Super Mario 64.
Either way, I recall little to no OoT instruments in Super Mario 64. Even all the instruments I remember that both games share use different samples, if I recall correctly.

And yes, I take my old claims about the M1 back. Again, everything I found off the M1 was probably from AKAI, and if not, I'll probably have to look more through the Roland LA-Composer library.

I do have to wonder what he's been using recently, though. I've yet to find anything he's used in his Super Mario Bros. Medley in Smash 4, for instance.
