- Since saptapper works in a single block of code, it might not find other functions in that single block, which are elsewhere in the rom. This is why manual support was re-enabled.

- Will it be able to rip Mega Man Battle Network 5? I am 95% XSF illiterate, so I do not even know how to find out. (All I know is how to tag/time and that the xsflib needs to be in the same folder as the minixsfs. Pitiful isn't it.)
If it can rip MMBN5, I may look into ripping/tagging/timing that one.

- I tried MMBN5 earlier and it failed, so I'm going to try it again later.
Well after checking through the game with no$gba, it appears the game is just calling to null space in the saptapper bank, which is causing an exception. I'm not sure why this is happening but I might be able to figure this out later.
Hooray! I got it working, now to get rid of this annoying static.
I found out what is causing the static, and that's because the game has returned from a function and is just branching to itself over and over.

- It might never happen, just to let you know. ARM/THUMB is not my area of expertise, and I have never read any devkit instructions for its functions. If the static bothers you which it no doubt will contact the professionals aka Caitsith2. Just hope that he isn't drunk or idle.

I briefly Googled Arm/Thumb assembly and I found a few sites that seemed to clearly explain the Arm functions. I do not know it you have even tried to learn Arm, but that may be a good place to start.
Lastly, if you put up what you have so far for MMBN5, I will look at. I do not know if I will figure anything out, but I will give it a try.

Sir-Sabin is tagging the set. I merely managed to patch it and yet there was three seconds missing and since this disturbed him so much (hey, it's three seconds), he has asked CS2 to fix this up.
Also, Mario Party Advance doesn't seem to work in Highly Advance.

- First off, this is my second manual rip.
Secondly, I have patched the song select, but HA freezes the game before it can get to it.
Actually, as I've just found out, it takes 30 seconds as opposed to the 3 seconds in VBA.
I patched it and it takes half as much time. I might post the 15-second delay set tommorow and make some notes in the info file. But I'm just an upset little guy >o

- OK, for some reason I didn't realize that you were re-ripping them manually. It looks like you are getting the hang of it - all you have left to figure out is how to get rid of delays at the beginning of the tracks. Good luck on finishing them up.
(BTW, I am capable of tagging Spyro: Season of Ice and Mario Pinball Land. It may take a while, but I will see if I can get to them soon.)

It's because people who use Saptapper are those who don't wish to learn ARM/THUMB. I am able to understand most THUMB (2-byte) instructions, but I'm not as good with ARM (4-byte instructions).
For those interested in making GSFs, you'll need to find the song select for the game you want. Provided that the sound function is not a huge thread (like in Mawaru Wario where any patches will kill the game), you can easily patch the following ASM code to the game to halt operations past that point:
loc_halt:
swi 2h // halt
b loc_halt
When this point is hit, the game will prevent further operations past that point. I usually patch this on to the end of what Saptapper calls sappy_songselectbynum.

v0.0 - initial release
CHAPTER 1: Getting stuff together:
You'll need:
- no$gba for debugging and instruction editing
- VisualBoy Advance for looking for song reads
- IDA Pro
- Highly Advance v0.11 or newer
- a good knowledge of RISC-based architecture (ARM is in ways similar to PowerPC and MIPS)
- various bits and bobs
CHAPTER 2: Finding the song select
Song numbers can either be found in memory (usually GAX-based games leave a song offset read
in the 0x300000 section), or in a register (generic driver games ALWAYS use a register). If you
can determine where this is, set a breakpoint if it's a big function. With generic driver games,
the song number will usually end up in r0.
The way I usually rip GAX games is that I look in the driver bank for what song is currently playing
then I search through the ROM for that exact same identifier then switch it with other known song
reads. Now this is usually troublesome, see chapter 4 for more stuff.
CHAPTER 3: Hacking the game and removing unused data
Once you've found the song select, you must then remove other unneeded functions, either by NOPing
them out, or placing the following asm code in a good place (preferably after the song select):
function_cpucut:
swi 2h // swi 20000h in ARM
b function_cpucut
This will cut the CPU and prevent further operations past that point.
CHAPTER 4: Minigsfs!
By now you've probably created your GSFLib, so here comes the next step:
Minigsfs can be created with minigsf.exe. But suppose you have just tweaked a byte read, now
you will need to create a binary file:
(all of these are reversed)
first 4 bytes: Entry point (either 0x80000000 or 0x20000000)
next 4 bytes: The offset we want to inject our data in (never start with an 0x0!)
next 4 bytes: The size of our data
next x bytes: the data itself
Then, using bin2psf, create the file using the following command:
bin2psf minigsf 0x22 file.bin
Now add a _lib=whatever.gsflib tag, and it should then work. (note: replace whatever.gsflib with the
gsflib's filename)
CHAPTER 5: Optimization
gsfopt -l *.minigsf
'nuff said. It will occasionally dump the GSFLib as one of the song names, so just rename it
and you should be done.

- I don't use IRC, and I do not have the time to devote to setting it up, finding CS2, and then being fussed at for not knowing how to use it properly. Maybe someone who is more capable will do something.
Anyway, I would hope that it gets fixed soon. I would do all I could to tag it. However, if it is nobody if going to look at it, I guess I will have hold off on my tags.

I looked at the gsflib myself, but No$GBA seems to have trouble reading parts of the code. There are quite a few functions in there that say IntWait, but when I hex edit them out the gsflib ceases to work.

- Learning ARM is not the problem, why is it that NO$GBA will not recognize some of the instructions? It gets all upset because there is "unrecognized opcode" in the file. Isn't it all ARM instructions?

At any rate, when I return to normal posting, my rushed posts should be gone and there will be about 10 or so GSF sets that have been upgraded/added to the "Complete" list at GSF Central.

- I'm guessing you're thinking about what happened to the Mawaru Made in Wario rip.
It uses a thread to control audio and timing functions, and I cannot patch either one out. It is extremely frustrating to try this game over and over, just to come away unsuccessful. This means that this game will be put aside for now in favor of an easier game.
Oh yeah, One Piece Nanatsu Shima was released on GSF Central yesterday. It did not get ripped using craptapper. So stuff.
I also did some work on Jackie Chan Adventures and also came away unsuccessful. I managed to patch the game, but I cannot find a song select function.
Next, regarding Minna no Oujisama and Made in Wario, I'm going to try to attempt these over the summer or after summatives are over. These big-ass exams are starting to relieve me of spare time, so I'm going to have to drop xSF rips temporarily.
Finally, my WIP list:

- Oh, I see that you used the MP3s from Galbadia Hotel. Some of those track names are incorrect. (Such as the level names.) Also, I think that Kirby and the Amazing Mirror is already tagged/timed, as is Ruby/Sapphire. I thing that Wings Advance is OK though.

- I tried Mother 3... and lost miserably. I couldn't find the sound select, as No$Gba is SUCK. I'm going to try it again using VBA's memory editor and IDA when I have the time.

- Are you sure you optimized Mother 3 correctly? I took a look at the GSF set and found songs that repeated and songs from the sound test missing.

Dr. Mario/Puzzle League with incredible modifications was run through saptapper earlier and is now being handled by Supakitchen.

I am going to time DK: King of Swing (still no tags), and submit all three sets. Then, I will tackle timing the 90 track Mario Party Advance set. Also, I am going to work something out about Mega Man Zero 4. The current set does not have the OST track names, and I will somehow get the US-only tracks up.

Oh yeah, I figured out the unknown tracks in Mario Pinball Land. They are all the music from the Red Coin Challenge, but they start at different points in the track. I included only the complete track.

By the way, have you heard the music for the new Mega Man ZX game that is coming out? I think that the music on that game contstitutes the creation of a Nintendo DS music format!

- I've only heard (and downloaded) the music they have on the website (it was only 2 songs, last time I went there). I fully agree. Great music, so far. Here's hoping that someone figures out the NDS audio ripping techniques. If not, then there's always MP3 OSTs converted to ADX (not as fun, not as space efficient, and you might be missing some "unreleased" track or 2). Though, I have to admit, I haven't tried that myself, I have considered it for Star Ocean 3 (and a few others). Hopefully it won't come down to that (I don't want to possibly degrade the sound quality through the conversion. Also, I don't want to have to go through the trouble of finding the loop points in the various files. Of course, I have no right, or room, to comment/complain about that, because MP3->ADX is almost certainly worlds easier than ripping NDS audio (or any ripped format, for that matter)).
[EDIT] Isn't this Megaman Zero 4? Or is that different from the one you're refering to? I downloaded that one when it was released, on Dec. 3rd (or 5th?). Did I miss something? I just don't want you to be wasting your time on something, if it's already been done, is all. Mouser X out.

Yes and no. That is Rockman Zero 4. It has the tracks with Japanese voices. It was ripped before the US/EUR versions were released. Originally, I wanted to just add the non-JP tracks to the current set. However, UF did not want to do that, so I thought that I would rip the non-JP version as a separate set.

- Well...due to an unexpected event, I got some time to do some MAJOR timing today. Mario Party Advance and Mega Man Zero 4 have been given a first pass at timing. After I get a chance to double-check the timing, I will submit them.

RAYMAN ADVANCE is in the optimization process. I have no comment on why VBA says it uses more CPU then no$gba.

- For those of you who want to try your hand at music creation (old style, of course), check out some of the tools mention at Nullsleep. There's tools to create your own NSFs (meaning, ones you've composed yourself), and some for the GB/A. Whether the GB tools can be used to create GBS files, I couldn't tell (but chances are that it won't do it directly), but it certainly look like a pretty cool thing to do. If my attempts to use Nerd Tracker 2 hadn't been so horribly bad, I might consider trying some of these tools myself. Of course, do keep in mind that NT2 is really old software, and FamiTracker almost certainly out does in almost every way. At least, I'd assume so, since FT is under development still. And, a tutorial was just posted on the site about a week ago. So, learning to use it should be easier than ever... Maybe I should give it another try sometime. Mouser X out.

- Finished experimental x86 patching to (unnamed game) recently, I will resume GSF ripping this weekend (there is a math test on Friday).
