I don't really like requesting stuff, but if people are going to be going through the effort of ripping stuff anyway, might I request a rip of the following?

# Yasunori Mitsuda

* an cinniùint
* Sailing to the World
* Hako no Niwa
* Moonlit Shadow

I already have a rip of KiRite, so I'm good there. And I don't care too much what format it's in, so long as I can play/listen to it. If you use MP3/OGG (or whatever) though, please have a minimum of 160 bitrate (or higher if you prefer). Thanks in advance. Mouser X over.
by JILost at 11:51 PM EST on November 16, 2008
That's great, because I already have all my Mitsuda stuff ripped to ridiculously high quality LAME VBR MP3. I'll upload the requested Mitsuda stuff to my webspace pronto.

Edit: I've started uploading. Check back every now and then until it's done.

@SmartOne
It's alright if you don't want to rip the Okami OST, but yeah, I do prefer an EAC rip of this album with proper settings ect. I'll continue my search then, thanks for offering though.

@JILost
Don't worry about the Metroid Metal CD, I understand your loyalty. :) Yeah, the Sonic music is indeed awesome! and thanks for clarifying that your CDs are indeed '100% ligit'. :)

If there where any soundtrack I would like you to do first, it would probably be the Super Mario World soundtrack. It's pretty rare from what I hear and thus it might be hard to get a lossless rip of this from anywhere else. Of course, I also love the music, especially the first disc. :D

@Mouser X
I too am interested in a lossless rip of Sailing to the World, unless of course you're not requesting lossless. But anyway, I'll look for this elsewhere then. :) I also like Yasunori Mitsuda's 'Xenosaga ~CREID~', it's a very nice Celtic mix. :D

Metroid Metal
by JILost at 3:41 AM EST on November 17, 2008
Awesome, it's the very first issue Metroid Metal CD. I used to have that once upon a time. My CD contains everything up to and including the Metroid 2 thing with Goat, though. I'm half-tempted to upload everything after that first set of tracks, but....loyalty.
by hcs at 3:43 AM EST on November 17, 2008
Yeah, it's the first issue, with the tracks mislabeled. The guy I got it from actually had them both mislabeled (well, labeled according to the back) and out of order, so I fixed that up.
by JILost at 11:10 PM EST on November 19, 2008
I have a soundtrack (Castlevania OoE) to upload. In order to avoid going through every filesharing site out there: Where should I upload it? I have webspace, but not a lot and I'd rather not have all my bandwidth sucked up so quickly.
filehosting sites by -FDM64- at 11:15 PM EST on November 19, 2008
i recommend badongo or mediafire
by marcusss at 11:28 PM EST on November 19, 2008
That would be awesome :P OoE Lossless Heaven :D Megaupload is fine , except for some or yeah just split it up and put on the mentioned sites :) Maybe easier is to just make a torrent.. I will gladly download it and seed at 50kb/s + for while as thanks :). whichever way, we would be very thankful
by CyberSpark at 1:31 AM EST on November 20, 2008
I found FileFront to be a fairly good upload site, it'll hold up to 1GB per file.

A couple of recommendations to keep the files up longer:

Post the url address as text instead of a direct link, just in case this site is flagged or something

After you've finished the upload and the file hosting site gives you a url, use Anonym.to to make your links anonymous.

Hope that helps a little.
by Mouser X at 1:48 AM EST on November 20, 2008
I like Badongo. I seem to recall not minding FileFront too much, but I'm not sure. But I do kindly request that you don't use Megaupload or Rapidshare. Please. Just don't do it. I really don't like them. At all.

Really though, you're free to ignore me, as it's unlikely that I'll be downloading it anyway. I just figured my 2 cents would be worth it. Mouser X over and out.
by marcusss at 2:16 AM EST on November 20, 2008
Yeah I know megaupload is now kinda megacrap or rather IS.. So yeah i believe badong and others are fine.. If they support 1gb per file then its cool :)
by CyberSpark at 12:46 PM EST on November 20, 2008
Hey um... does anyone have the Rouge Galaxy Original Soundtrack album or a (proper) lossless rip? I'd like to request this please. :)
by marcusss at 4:21 PM EST on November 20, 2008
Wasn't it on FF Forums last time I checked ..I think.. But it wasn't lossless.. Has some orchestral pieces too I believe
by bxaimc at 5:12 PM EST on November 20, 2008
it's also on bluelaguna.net
by CyberSpark at 6:43 PM EST on November 20, 2008
Well I have the Mp3s from FFShrine forums but there was np lossless version available. I'm a long time member of that forum btw. I have the arrange soundtrack in [EAC] lossless but now I'm looking for the OST.

Request.
Just thought of another awesome soundtrack that I'd like to request in (proper) lossless: Soul Calibur II and IV original soundtracks if anyone has the CDs.

Unrelated.
Please do remind me to upload soundtracks to this forum, I have many in lossless format and I'm usually home on the weekends, just mention it here so that I can remember. :)
by Lunar at 4:39 AM EST on November 21, 2008
currently, i'm trying to find a ROM/ISO of a PC-Engine CD/Turbo CD game called "Tengai Makyou - Kabuki Ittou Ryoudan" (sometimes just known as "Kabuki Itouryodan"), as I'd like to rip the redbook audio from it. It's composed by Hayato Matsuo. Not having a lot of luck though. If anyone's got an ISO or access to one, gimme a shout.

here you go: http://www.sendspace.com/file/fgo1v9
by Lunar at 6:22 PM EST on November 21, 2008
cool! unfortunately though, there seems to be (at least) 3 tracks missing - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhHZZwVZtlw (Intro, Kabuki Ending, Jingoro's Stage) i guess that'd explain the bizarre numbering on the mp3s. any idea?

the game has some chip tunes too, if you're ever inclined to hoot-ify those (if that's even possible... ¯\(º_o)/¯)

other than that, heroic; thanks!

EDIT: durr, actually only 2 tracks. jingoro's stage is in there. but i'm not too worried about drama stuff anyway.

edited 6:33 AM EST November 22, 2008
by Knurek at 1:15 AM EST on November 22, 2008
I've removed all drama tracks (Intro probably fit here), the missing track numbers are mostly program tracks though (PC Engine isos are weird that way).

I believe kingshriek is the only one that knows how to rip sequenced music from CD games into HES files, you might try asking him.
by kingshriek at 2:58 AM EST on November 22, 2008
Eh, why not...

http://www.snesmusic.org/hoot/kingshriek/other/KabukiIttouRyoudan.zip

It's great that the vast majority of CD games use the system card driver - makes for fairly easy ripping.

edited 2:58 AM EST November 22, 2008
by Knurek at 4:54 AM EST on November 22, 2008
Thanks, that certainly was fast. I'll upload a basic playlist for the HES file in a few hours.

Easy as in DSF or Gameboy games using GHX easy?

Cause I've noticed quite a lot of CD games that only have one or two redbook tracks. Guessing rest is sequenced, and would be nice to have them as well.
by Lunar at 8:09 AM EST on November 22, 2008
ahhh great stuff. only 4 tunes, but nice to have all the same. you're both too kind!

this is a bit of a deviation from the thread topic, but it's something i've been wondering for a while - what are the pros and cons of HES vs. hoot archives? There seems to be a lot more games ripped on hoot than are available in HES, though HES is my preference due to winamp playability. or am i just completely confused?
by Knurek at 10:26 AM EST on November 22, 2008
You're mixing stuff up.

HES is music format for NEC's (and Hudson Soft's) PC Engine console.

Hoot is a music player, it handles many systems (including a replayer for HES files actually), but is mostly known here for NEC PC-88 and NEC PC-98 computer system rips (and other computers, like Sharp X1 and X68000, MSX, etc).

I've got another request! It's a rare album but maybe someone here might have it (physical CD) or lossless rip, you know, the usual format. :)

OK, here's the album I want:

- Review -

Passion

It's the music of Yasunori Mitsuda and performed by Eminence Orchestra and Hopeful Weeds. Unfortunately I couldn't find a site with streaming mp3s, so there's no "Preview" like the other album requests that I've posted previously. :( Hope someone here has it. Cya.

Galbadia Hotel/FF Shrine forums had the MP3s of it. Don't know if anyone has FLAC, but the MP3s were VBR. Do a search here:

http://forums.ffshrine.org/forumdisplay.php?f=63
by CyberSpark at 12:53 PM EST on November 24, 2008
Thanks CapComMDb but that's actually the first place that I looked, and I have the mp3s as well. What I am looking for now is someone that either owns the CD or has an [EAC] lossless rip, that way, not only would I get the perfect CD quality but also (hopefully) get the files that come with most [EAC] rips necessary to reconstruct the audio disc (A.K.A. burn an exact copy).

Thanks anyway. :)

Request!
Someone must have this soundtrack:

De Blob Original Soundtrack

I read that they were/are(?) giving this soundtrack away at Circuit City with purchase of the game, I only want the soundtrack though, and in proper lossless, as always. :)

Just tell me if you own the soundtrack and I'll show you how to make perfect lossless.

Request!
I've been looking for this soundtrack for quite a long time now, it's one of my favorite orchestral scores of all time. Please, if you have the album or a proper lossless rip, please upload it. This is the album:

Soul Calibur II Original Soundtrack

Oh, and I'm also looking for this one as well:

Soulcalibur IV Original Soundtrack (2-Disc)

Ragnarok Online Original Soundtrack

(Either CDs or proper lossless rip)

It has some really nice music on it, some trace too. If you have it... please. :)

I suggest joining the gamingforce forums and checking out their request board....
by CyberSpark at 11:50 AM EST on December 6, 2008
Thanks but... I'm already a member, and already made all of these requests there too, and FFShrine Forums, and SlightlyDark Forums, and.... :)

I open all of my favorite forums and request the same thing at the same time. Ragnarok Online Original Soundtrack and especially Ragnarok Online II O.S.T. aren't the easiest downloads to come by appearently, I'm hoping that someone here just might happen to have it.

Thanks for the suggestion though but I'm already ahead of ya.

Centre Court Tennis / Let's Smash N64 soundtrack, recorded outta project 64 (great music but sounds like ass):

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IHVJSX2R

some sound glitches, lack of loops/fades (lazy) and there's two missing tracks as well (out of the 35 total - also lazy), but otherwise fully tagged. i also have some recordings of vigilante 8 + 2nd offense i could upload that were done the same way years ago, though i expect those are already available elsewhere these days.

CyberSpark: I've bought the Okami OST, so if you want I can do another lossless rip of it. I followed the tutorial you posted, is that it, or do you want to check with me before I start? You can add me on MSN with k.hpptfot@gmail.com, with the letters before @gmail.com one letter back :P
by CyberSpark at 2:09 PM EST on January 18, 2009
jelbo, it would be greatly appreciated if you could rip this for me, and thanks for checking with me before you did. Actually, I'm in the process of updating my tutorial, I'm even getting it reviewed by members of the EAC forums to make sure that all of the information given is correct and will result in a 1:1 of an audio CD, it should be completely finished very shortly.

Thanks dude. :)

jelbo, did you just beat me to it on eBay? I find this timing highly suspect.
by jelbo at 12:57 PM EST on January 19, 2009
CyberSpark: OK, I'll be watching this space. I did a rip of it already with the settings you posted, just in case they don't change :P I used the latest EAC with an IDE Optiarc AD-7173A and AccurateRip.

Here's my .log (cleaned) and .cue (uncleaned) files.

I had to re-rip several trakcs on the first 4 discs: CRC values didn't match or AccurateRip reported wrong CRC values. Discs 4 and 5 aren't in the AccurateRip database, so tracks from those discs can't be verified the AccurateRip way (also some very short tracks on the first discs couldn't be found in AR db). Because of that I have to trust the test and copy CRC values, which I don't fully.. can or should I trust them if they match? (edit: I found it I shouldn't, but I don't know how to be sure if a track is read correctly or not) I could try to read the discs on another PC with a different drive, am I correct in assuming the CRC values should be the same?

hcs: I bought it from YesAsia. This soundtrack (and game) is such a masterpiece and so well mastered compared to mainstream CD's, that I found it very much worth a purchase.

Oh, cool, YesAsia is the cheapest I've seen for it and free shipping for such a purchase! I was struggling to get it for under $60 on eBay, just thought it was funny that I lost that auction shortly before you announced that you had it :)
by jelbo at 2:20 AM EST on January 20, 2009
Well, lucky you lost the auction then. I couldn't believe the YesAsia price either, and it's no bootleg.
by CyberSpark at 5:52 PM EST on January 20, 2009
Very good jelbo, I'm glad my tutorial worked for you. :)

If the tracks ripped aren't present in the AccurateRip database then there's not really much you can do other then to trust the settings that you've made and the matching CRC values.

I'm not exactly sure which day you started to used my tutorial but the most recent time that I updated it was 3 days ago, I had added some information about Overread into Lead-in and Lead-out under the Exaction [tab], I'm not sure if you read that portion of the tutorial or not.

Truthfully though, this feature will not really effect the accuracy of your rip, hence the "Optional", since all that it does is recover some null samples and therefore it makes no difference.

From what I see based on the log files and CUE sheets that you had uploaded, everything looks to be good.

If you're interested in tagging your audio files as well as editing file names and information in the CUE sheet, you can use Mp3Tag to do this. This is not part of my request as I'm willing to add the tags myself, but if you're interested in doing this for your own rips I just thought that I'd suggest it.

Looking forward to this awesome OST. :D Thanks. Cya.
by jelbo at 2:28 AM EST on January 21, 2009
I read and followed your tutorial on January 18.

I already tagged and renamed the .flac's with Tag&Rename according to the OST entry at VGMDB.net. I chose the English Game Titles instead of the English Literal Translation, but I might be crazy enough to write some batch files that work with a commandline tagger (tag.exe?) to switch between the two track naming options. I could even try Japanese if I'm really crazy. I also used the #gamemp3s tracknumber naming scheme (101 Trackname - 159 Trackname, 201 Trackname -2xx Trackname, etc.)

I also did a ReplayGain album scan on the full OST with foobar2000 and tagged those values.

So yeah, the trackname/tags still needs finishing, and the .cue's are still messed up with filenames and wrong title info. If you add me on MSN with the concealed address I posted we can work out the details to get the rip over to you so you may work on it as well. Maybe you're up for the trackname/tag batch thing as a way to return the favour. In the meantime I could do some nice scans of the artwork and stuff.

jelbo Wrote:

That should be good, I've only done some minor updates since then.

jelbo Wrote:

Um, maybe I'm misunderstanding something. What exactly will ReplayGain do to the audio data? It's my understanding that adding ReplayGain, if you're talking about what I think you're talking about, will alter the audio data, in which case the audio files will no longer be 1:1 copies of the original. The recommendation from most EAC gurus is to never use ReplayGain if you're looking to make 1:1 copies. If I'm misunderstanding what you mean, please explain.

Well other then the ReplayGain thing, which I may be misinterpreting, Everything in the info that you uploaded looks good. If you want to tag the files before uploading them then that's up to you, I usually don't even ask for this because it's extra work for the uploader and really I can do this myself.

That actually would be quite nice. :)

Replaygain just adds a tag, it is up to the player to adjust the volume in response. It's rather like the "volume" tag in PSF, but with more logic involved (normalizing the volume of a whole album, etc). A basic flac decoder will ignore it completely.
by CyberSpark at 5:40 AM EST on January 21, 2009
OK, I understand it a bit more. As long as the data itself isn't being altered and the original content of the CD can be restored, I'm good. :)

Jelbo, I just wanted to point out one other thing. At the very end of my tutorial, I suggest the use of the HkSFV program. Once you install it, you can use it via the context menu.

After you've made all of the changes you want to make to your archive, right before compressing/archiving the album, select all of the files or right-click on the folder itself and create just the MD5 file. This will be useful since you're sending the archive over the internet and sometimes tiny bits of data can get lost; this will allow the downloaders to check the MD5 files to see if that's the case and re-download if necessary.
by jelbo at 6:07 AM EST on January 21, 2009
I'm aware of all the CRC32/MD5 stuff, and I use QuickSFV for that (with some self-hacked icon resource to please my eyes on the context menu icons ;))

Do you think the batch thing is a good idea? I'd like to make the ultimate OST rip and that would make it pretty nifty.

I could use some help though, so if you want to lend a hand on some of the things that'd be nice. On my todo list are:

-check correctness of current tags/filenames
-make .bat files that work with cmdline tagger to switch between track title naming options (effective on tags, filenames, hashfiles, playlist files and .cue sheets)
-fix .cue files based on actual filenames (different .cue file sets when the track title switching idea becomes reality)
-make scans and polish them up
-make .nfo :Þ

I'll be home in about 7 hours from now so we can set up some FTP connection or whatever is suitable.

Indeed, that should work.

jelbo wrote:

I think it's a good idea, it would satisfy the purists that prefer to have the original tags as well as the English speaking people that prefer to have tags that they can actually read. :p

LOL. Just make sure to describe the function of the batch file in the filename so that no one thinks it's some sort of virus. :D

- Well I usually trust the information given at VGMdb and it has the Japanese translation as well.

- LOL. I know very little to nothing about creating batch files, I may not be able to do very much for you in that area.

- You can easily create multiple CUE sheets by opening the CUE current CUE sheet in the Notepad change the filenames data there. When you're done making your edits, save the file under a slightly different name with the extension: .cue.

Change similar information such as artists and folders by navigating within the Notepad to: Edit -> Replace (Ctrl+H) and type in the "Find what:" field, for example: Unknown artist / Unknown title and replace it with the artist(s) and title or whatever it is that you want to replace it with.

Hm, I'm not exactly sure how to setup an FTP but it should be fine for you to upload it to a file hosting site(?). Maybe someone else here might know how to do this. Sorry.

All-in-all, things are looking very good, I'm really looking forward to this rip. :D Cya.

Hey, does anyone own an original copy of the Super Mario Galaxy Original Soundtrack Platinum Version?

Please respond if you own that soundtrack. Thanks.

Shame you know little about batchfiles.. I'm pretty much a rookie on that part as well, but I know some handy search and replace tricks in UltraEdit to help me out.

The same technique is imo rather impossible to use on the .cue sheets, that'll have to be hand labour. I'd like to ask you to do the .cue sheets, you said you were fine with the tagging bits ;)

I can set up an FTP server for you, but all I ask is that you add me on MSN or send me an e-mail so I can give you the details.

Some initial tests with tag.exe were unsuccessful (all tracks got the same title :S?), so I'll have to look into that again or use a different cmdline tagger.

I do have Mario Galaxy, and the English release too, so it'll have official English titles. You'll have to remind me of the link to your ripping guide though.

Really sorry about that, I've only used a batch files once and I had to look up a fair amount of info just to add like 2 lines of commands. :/

Sure, shall I use the CUE sheets that you sent to me? Um, also, could you please explain in detail what it is exactly that you want me to do with them again? :p

I don't have MSN, so I guess I can set up a temporary E-mail address.

Awesome. :) I do prefer the Platinum version because of some of the music on the second disc, I don't mind about the titles so much. I'm just making some minor changes to the tutorial, nothing significant, just trying to make it easier to understand.

Please tell me if there's any portion of the tutorial that sounds confusing. Here's the link: How To Make 1:1 Copies of Audio CDs Using Exact Audio Copy

I'm just going to throw this one out there and hope that someone has it:

Project Soul the Primary Sound Box -Soul Edge ~ Soul Calibur I & II-

I just found out about this one today. Soul Calibur music is some of my most favorite music to listen to, especially Soul Calibur II OST. Again, if someone has the album, please rip it according to the tutorial.

Gungriffon Original Soundtrack (Motoaki Takenouchi)

download it or die >:o it's rare as heck still, so... yeah. get.

Done with the batch files - they use metaflac.exe and the Windows ren command to switch between English Game Titles and English Literal Translation.

The .cue files need to be two sets of 5. The need correct references to filenames (2 sets, see above) and PERFORMER, according to the tags or VGMDb.net reference which I followed.

Not sure if this job can be scripted, don't think it's easy. Example of one track:

FILE "Unknown Artist - Unknown Title\01 - Track01.wav" WAVE
TRACK 01 AUDIO
TITLE "Track01"
PERFORMER "Unknown Artist"
ISRC JPE100607410
INDEX 01 00:00:00

needs to be changed to:

FILE "101 Title.flac" FLAC
TRACK 01 AUDIO
TITLE "Title"
PERFORMER "Masami Ueda"
ISRC JPE100607410
INDEX 01 00:00:00

Maybe some more technical guys like hcs or UNKNOWNFILE can think up something :) Otherwise it'll have to be done by hand.

I have some #gamemp3s scans around which will do. I could probably scan them a bit prettier, but don't want to waste time on it.

It's looking pretty good jelbo. Maybe someone in the Digital-Inn Forums can help answer your questions, if not there, perhaps the JoeJoe.org Forums: Question & Answer section can help answer some questions about batch files.

post the batches and the cue files and i'll do the search & replace for you, easier to do it than explain it generally
by jelbo at 6:52 AM EST on January 25, 2009
Here they are

The batch files have some tracks left out because they are identically named in the two track title types.

The .cue of disc 2 has wrong titles that are from freedb. The other disc .cue's have TrackXX as track titles.

Thanks in advance :)

Wow, it looks really nice, I'm sure there will be some that will appreciate this. :)

JILost, I don't know if you're still around these forums, I was just wondering if you still have those Sonic Albums that I requested?

I'm going to look for an album that I can upload here, does anyone care whether it's lossless or not? that will make a difference as to what I'm able to upload.
by Athrador at 1:05 PM EST on January 27, 2009
Lossless forever :Q
by jelbo at 5:05 PM EST on January 28, 2009
hcs, if you're at it, do you see any chance to get the ISRC codes from the .cue's and line them up in track order?

btw, you also ordered from YesAsia? They're indeed the cheapest I could find :)
by hcs at 6:11 PM EST on January 28, 2009
Sorry, I've not found the time to work on those files. If you're waiting on me, I'd say probably don't.
Yeah, I ordered the Okami OST and The Black Mages while I was at it (impossible to find a non-bootleg version on eBay), just shipped today :)
by jelbo at 2:24 AM EST on January 29, 2009
You're my only hope ;) No worries, I can wait. I just don't want to copy/paste 218 track titles and artist names into .cue files XD

EAC+FLAC preferred | Will accept mp3s

Does anyone own the Ragnarok Online II O.S.T.? It sounds like such an awesome soundtrack. :) If you happen to own the CD then that would be very awesome and I'd like an awesome rip of it please. If all you have are the mp3s then I'll even take those. There are a total of 20 tracks on this disc.

I CANNOT find the Mother3i and Mother 3+ CD's anywhere (to buy.) The best free downloads available are terribly low-quality VBR MP3s undoubtedly encoded from the lossy iTunes store suck format. They even clip. Is there a store selling these? Or a hidden lossless download somewhere?

Ragnarok Online II OST, #gamemp3s rip
by CyberSpark at 5:22 PM EST on January 31, 2009
Thank you hcs. As much as I would love to have this in lossless, I've had such trouble finding even the mp3s. It's much appreciated. :)
by fridgey at 7:54 PM EST on January 31, 2009
I'm fairly certain regarding Mother3i, and I _think_ regarding Mother3+, that they were digital only releases... meaning no (legit) cd's available to buy and no lossless rips to be made. There's a chance I'm wrong, but that's what I recall :/
by Dais! at 8:02 PM EST on January 31, 2009
Mother3i was definitely digital only, but Mother3+ was apparently both digital and CD (HOBO 0004). This is according to VGMDB, but I'm definitely certain that the major method of distribution for both albums was digital.
by hcs at 12:48 AM EST on February 1, 2009
Searching for the cat# revealed a few sites selling it, this one seems to ship worldwide.

Thanks. I'll check it out.

Does anyone want to burn their iTunes Mother3i to a CD, rip and encode to FLAC, and upload it somewhere? ;)

The MP3s floating around sound terrible.
Listen for yourself:
http://www.4shared.com/file/58371513/2024a9bd/Mother3i.html

They're 128 kbps VBR or something.

Most all of the audio files offered on iTunes are in .mp3 format. Once a .wav file is encoded in mp3 format, it loses data that can not be retrieved. Decoding an .mp3 to .wav (lossless format) and then encoding to.flac (compressed lossless format) will do nothing but make for larger files with no gain in audio quality.

You're probably better off finding a way to bypass the DRM protection (didn't iTunes discontinue that already) or, if you do burn the files to CD, rip and encode the files using LAME with V0 encoding (more info), this will allow for near-lossless sound quality form the original Mp3s but keep a small file size.

Really though, lossless is only useful when encoding from other non-compressed lossless formats such as .wav.

Hey, I'm quite aware how lossy junk works.

I thought iTunes were still protected AACs. (Why would a dumb person convert to MP3 if they were MP3 originally?) Thus, the easiest way to un-DRM them would be to burn a CD. Never perform lossy encoding twice! LAME V0 is lossy and will further degrade quality. After the initial sin of lossy-ness, the best thing you can do to preserve 100% quality (other than playing the original files, which we can't do thanks to DRM) is to raw-ify, then encode to FLAC for playback/storage.

So if someone feels so inclined, that would be great.

Assuming that's the same mp3 copy I have, they're already v0... they sound as good as anything people get off of itunes in glorious 128kbps AAC, so I can't imagine ballooning the filesize with frequencies that have already been rolled off would improve them much, LAME shouldn't have had to cut much of anything out to fit v0's compression parameters. But whatever, it might be a slight bit better, and most people seem to get a psychological sound boost just because they're listening to something in a lossless format...

EDIT: As for the iTunes store, I don't keep up with it, but a quick look at the intro on their wiki page makes it sound like they're in the process of moving the whole thing over to unprotected 256kbps AAC, so perhaps hope for a better copy exists.

Pardon me, I have come in search of a particular OST, namely, "Sekaiju no MieQ 2 Sound Track Piano sketch version". I understand that this has been uploaded a number of pages back,

http://hcs64.com/mboard/forum.php?showthread=6770&showpage=8

but the file appears to have being removed. Might any kind soul be able to reupload it?

Much thanks given in advance. Please ignore me if this happens to be inappropriate.

If it's possible to preserve quality, I do it. I have the space, and then it's 100% the same as it was in iTunes AAC, except without stupid DRM.

I'm pretty sure that "iTunesPlus" garbage only applies to "select" albums. They're playing that game.

The MP3 copy I linked clips. CLIPS. That's not good. At least I think its clipping... sounds get scratchy when loud. They also have that scrumptious watery lossy sound to them.
by fridgey at 10:21 PM EST on February 2, 2009
A little more info on Mother3i...

In Japan it was apparently released to 4 different digital stores (http://www.1101.com/MOTHER3/). I don't know about the other 2 (HMV/mora), but Napster, I believe, uses unprotected mp3's. If someone can figure out how to buy from the Japanese store (I know many of them use IP filtering (easy to get around) and reject non-jp credit cards (not so easy to get around)) that might be another way to get it in decent quality - I assume they aren't shoveling anything _worse_ than 128.

As for the iTunes release, the only actual iTunes files I've ever heard (bought by an old roommate of mine) were ripped horrendously and he wound up having me just get a pirated copy of the album for him... I wouldn't put odds against the clipping already being there, I doubt LAME would've introduced it. Possibility exists, of course, that the files went through more than just that conversion though...
by CyberSpark at 2:41 PM EST on February 3, 2009
I just found The Memory of Ragnarok, Ragnarok Online II O.S.T. and the Ragnarok Online Piano Arrange all in lossless format! :D :D :D

I don't have them all right now but, if anyone is interested, I might be able to upload it over the next few days.

MOTHER3+ (#gamemp3s) (55,3MB). Includes scans. LAME 3.97 -V 0 --vbr-new, EAC Secure mode with 'Accurate Stream' feature.

hcs, will you eventually get around to my .cue files, or should I go ahead with it manually? You may also explain the general idea, I'm pretty creative with UltraEdit and batch files :o)

Hi jelbo, I'm not even sure what I was going to do... sorry to have misled you. Probably something like generating a batch to replace instances of "Track 1" with "First Track Title", etc, which could be easily generated from an ordered list of track names.
