Re: Guitar strums by PK56 at 7:07 PM EST on December 5, 2019
Those are definitely guitar strums. The closest match I could find within my own library of sounds was a soundfont called Studio FG460s II Pro Guitar Pack, but even then I'm not 100% confident it was an exact match. You could start there though. The character of the guitar is pretty realistic given what the rest of Mother 3's samples came from though, so it might be that they actually recorded the chords from a higher end guitar library.
Luigi's Mansion voice sample by Hiccup at 7:04 AM EST on December 15, 2019
Anyone know anything about this sample?: https://tcrf.net/Luigi%27s_Mansion_(GameCube)/Unused_Audio#Ghost_Speech Its a seemingly unused sample in Luigi's Mansion (2001).
It was also used in this 2010 SoundCloud track: https://soundcloud.com/capitalbeats/are-you-ready-for-the-rough-big-bass-mix#t=0:39
Master_E said earlier in this thread that Shogo Sakai has recorded his own guitar and ukulele in his more recent works, so it's possible that those samples actually are from a live guitar.
Has anyone ripped the soundfonts from Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo and Pocket Fighter (Super Gem Fighter: Mini Mix) on PS1? They both sound good. (I'm wanting to use them for something...)
Rhythm Heaven/Tengoku and it's DS, Wii and 3DS sequels (including the GBA release) do have some nice soundfonts too. You can get the DS version's samples using Tinke.
Also, Technictix and Technic Beat on Playstation 2 both have great soundfonts! I'm not sure if they're both been ripped though... For Playstation 1 and 2 games, you can get the instument samples in PSound.
Now... i'll be waiting for someone to make the Technictix/Technic Beat (PS2) and Rhythm Heaven (DS) soundfonts using the instuments extracted from the games.
Hi guys, I recently got interrested in that "sample's sources" business and I wanted to contribute to the spreadsheet. SO here's what I found:
The E-MU Proteus/1 was widely used as sample source on SNES, I always wondered, BTW, if some of the samples weren't simply part of the SNES' SDK for how widely used it was on so much games.
But that's not the subject. What I found is that its drumkit was used on some games that haven't been documented on the spreadsheet. Here's the songs I found:
Also, could someone check the Fire Emblem SNES trilogy's OST to find the sources of the different samples? I can easly tell from were some drum samples come, but I can't recognize the source of downsampled, cut and compressed melodic samples. I don't know how you do this guys.
Hotel Mario's intro lead actually comes from the Casio cz-1000.

Castlevania 64 by xroc88 at 1:44 PM EDT on August 12, 2020
So oim on the hunt for some castlevanisa 64 uncompressed samples and i have extracted the samples drom the rom. Im particularlly looking for the metallic or crash sample type sound played in the Watch tower and science towert themes.
Also the intro low string sample and menu music percussion loops.
The metallic type sound https://www.dropbox.com/s/f5oiefbwv57pen6/SFX.mp3?dl=0
Low String Sample in the Intro theme. https://www.dropbox.com/s/9rx7ihspbnrs2qc/Brass%20Stinger%2001.wav?dl=0
Its pitched up a bit.
Menu and Castle Center percussion. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/l0rmuo29bkrf4gu/AAAp8wC7HOM-LEcFK9n4EXb_a?dl=0
Has anyone succeeded in extracting all the whole music from Zelda Wind Waker HD game? because i know most of the themes are sequenced the fact that the data and audio files .bfstm, .brstms may have been moved to one of the folders on the disk which is currently inaccessible to the public and still not sure how the nicknames people like TheUltimateKoopa on smashcustommusic.net used what extraction software to be able to extend the duration of each theme up to 30min I would like to get the HD version of the theme The Great Sea Is Cursed and I know that composers Kenta Nagata, Hajime Wakai, Asuka Hayazaki, Atsuko Asahi, Toru Minegishi and Koji Kondo made a lot of modifications, massive changes and replaced the old samples and then used the new instruments from EastWest products
I have my own spreadsheet! by Ben Adams (BenKirb) at 12:45 PM EST on January 20, 2021
Hey, guys! Remember me? I'm BenKirb! I have my own spreadsheet called Ben's TV & Game Music Instrument Spreadsheet! Link
@G-Boy Is this new code available anywhere? The spreadsheet also uses the same invalid one. Or has the server become more privatized? That's okay if so
The invites have kept being deleted lately to stop some unwanted users from joining the server, so that's why they keep expiring. But here's the new link again: Link [EDIT: Someone went onto the server and spammed gore images, so this one is also expired now.]
@G-Boy I need your expertise ! Do you have an idea for the instruments used in the Credits Part 1 of Mario Kart Wii ? Maybe we can discuss it on the discord server, but have not joined it yet…
@BenOn90 The slower credits theme mostly seems to consist of Korg Triton Studio instruments (such as the piano and the string ensemble), along with a timbale from the sample library Spectrasonics Supreme Beats. I think there might be some usage of a Ueberschall CD (either Disco Fever/Disco De Luxe or House Essentials) in there too.
The other credits theme also uses the Triton, along with a Roland SC-88 string ensemble and some instruments from the Best Service Gigapack CD. The flute playing the Moo Moo Meadows theme later in the song is a live recording.
What VST libraries is Sakuraba using nowadays or at least in the last few years?
Particularly the orchestral ones, such as the stuff in Tales of Arise, Eiyuden Chronicle or Valkyrie Connect (the more recent BGM) & Higurashi Mei, as well as his drumkits and guitars in Mario Golf Super Rush.
I think his Smash Bros Ultimate remix of Arch-Illager still used a few EastWest Ministry of Rock stuff.
Is he still using EastWest for orchestra or are they from other libraries?
@deathvine_68000 Pretty sure most of the drums, guitars and synths on his tracks are live, you can go to his twitter and when Ultimate got revealed there's a lot of pictures of him in the studio recording something
Surely he is still using EWQL for other stuff tho, like on his FF7 remix
I have been looking through Paper Mario N64 midis extracted through N64 Soundbank tool. It's soundbank preview gives a poor estimation of the how it actually plays, so I guessed through hearing without using the soundbank, hence the poor mix overall.

Discord by Bpast at 12:19 PM EST on February 3, 2022
Hello there! I just joined the forum because I'm fascinated by this project and would like to learn more and contribute where possible. I can't seem to find a working link for the discord (it sounds like from previous posts that I'm not the only one), would anyone be able to send me an invite link for it? Thanks so much!
@Bpast Because of some raids that have been happening lately, the server staff decided to disable all of the public invites, which is why none of the links work. So I think you'd have to contact someone privately to get an invite.

@G-Boy would you be able to send me an invite? I'm not really sure how to contact anyone privately on this forum.

VGM&OIS Discord by Hyperbog at 7:10 PM EST on March 2, 2022
Hey folks. I just found out about this forum today through searching Google for "VGM & Other Instrument Sources Discord" after having watched Mathew Valente's FFVI OST reproduction video where he cites the Discord community in his PDF.
I am a musician of 24 years, and an audio engineer / mixing engineer, and I am incredibly interested in joining the Discord to further engage with the community as well as expand my knowledge of the instruments and samples used in VGM.
I would be incredibly grateful and appreciative if an invite link could be posted or sent. If need be I can provide my Discord handle if that makes things more transparent.

There is no need to hide your server anymore. I am deeply sorry for what I did, its devastating to think about.
Superstar saga sample 22 by ThatOneNote at 7:29 AM EDT on March 31, 2022
I am looking for the source of sample 22 in the superstar saga soundfont as heard here https://vocaroo.com/1lmiSUq9kU6E It's one of the last major unidentified samples for my HQ soundfont project and would be a huge help if found
Can anybody send me a discord invite?, all links are dead.

I contacted Wilbert Roget, II asking him if he remembers the samples libraries he used for Mortal Kombat 11. He answered :) (thanks for that!) and he remembered this ones off top of his head: - EastWest Hollywood Orchestra - CinePerc - Impact Soundworks: Impact Steel - Spitfire Albion - Spitfire HZ01 Percussion - AudioImperia Decimator - PerformanceSamples Oceania - Vienna Symphonic Library Opus 1&2 - SampleModelling TheTrumpet - SampleModelling TheTrombone He primarly composed the main themes and the story mode themes. PD: On the NEWER spreadsheet it says the discord server is closed but idk if there is other one. Anyway, on the NEWER spreedsheet i sent a request so i can add these libraries on "Stuff To Find" on mortal kombat 11 if nobody posts it.

Psyconauts by argyulo at 9:25 PM EDT on April 20, 2022
Peter McConnell answered me in twitter about the samples used on Psyconauts and he said pretty much everything listed on the Newer VGM Sound Source is correct except for the two Sound Cube, he said he don't own those.
The instruments in Pocket Card Jockey's "King's Gate" sound the same as the instruments in Xenoblade 2 when synth is used, like in Temperantia, or "Disappearing World". Is there any way to find out if I am correct?

Toshinden by emperor bohe at 11:42 PM EDT on October 14, 2022
Does anyone happen to know what sound sources were used on Battle Arena Toshinden? Is that a Korg M1 piano on Sofia's theme? I've always loved the vibe of this soundtrack haha. Love the synths too.

Lufia SNES Sound Sources Revealed (General, Not Specific) by MeteoXavier at 11:58 PM EST on November 17, 2022
Howdy y'all, long-time lurker and first-time poster with something potentially useful.
So, like a lot of weebs, I'm Facebook friends with loads of Japanese composers and game devs. One of them is Yasunori Shiono, who is famous for his work on the Estpolis/Lufia game series. He goes long periods without getting on Facebook, but he recently started coming back on and I posted on his wall asking what he used as the source instruments for the original SNES Estpolis/Lufia games. With the disclaimer in mind that he wouldn't be able to remember too clearly that far back (which is fair, it was almost 30 years ago), he told me he remembered using a Roland SC8820 for the instruments and Goldwave for extracting them for Estpolis/Lufia II.
The conversation got kinda interesting at that point. I asked him if he meant a Roland SC88 as the SC8820 didn't come out until 1999. He posted back with a laugh conceding he got it wrong and that it was the SC88Pro. The next message in that thread came from Yukio Nakajima who I was also friends with and didn't know also worked on the Lufia II games (the original and the DS remake) and wrote this:
"塩生 康範 There was no SC8820 or GoldWave(Windows) around Estopolis biography 1-2 lol The sound sources used are as follows. ・AKAI SG01k ・Roland SC-55 Roland CM-64 ・Alesis D4"
That was the end of the thread and I didn't inquire further. I always felt like it wasn't obvious which MIDI sound source the Lufia I and II games' instruments came from like so many other games, so this provides some great foundation work for putting those two games on the discovery list and figuring out which song uses what.
This is my big contribution to the thread. Please enjoy!

Discord Invite Please by ImmortalGangsta2004 at 1:13 AM EDT on April 9, 2024
This is probably my first post on this site, but anyway I heard there is a Discord server dedicated to finding instrument sources from video games, so that could help me find instruments that were used in games like Sega Rally Championship, like the rock organ and distortion guitar for example. However, I also heard that the invites for the server were closed, probably due to raids or something. Could I please have an invite to the server? My username on Discord is ImmortalGangsta2004 btw. If you can't invite me to the server, that's ok, but I'm just asking.
