vgstream does not support the surround sound jingles in that set, and I downloaded the latest version.
by bxaimc at 5:30 PM EDT on May 11, 2009
It does......your sound card might not support it though
by agu fungus at 12:19 AM EDT on May 12, 2009
Prove it.
by Knurek at 12:35 AM EDT on May 12, 2009
Oh god, don't be a dick. Either use a system with more than 2.0 speaker setup or a player that can downmix multi-channel files to plain stereo.
Using XMPlay here and multi-channel files play fine.
by Mouser X at 12:48 AM EDT on May 12, 2009
agu fungus: As I already said, VGMstream supports multi-channel stuff just fine. As everyone here has said, it's a problem with your system, not VGMstream. Want proof? Use VGMstream to decode the files to WAV (don't use the plugin, use "test.exe"). It will output a mult-channel WAV file which will also not work on your system, but is a 100% valid WAV file (it's not malformed, it's not broken, it's actually audio) which could then be split up using a decent WAV editor (and, once split, would work on your system). Seriously, you're not the first to encounter this issue. Your system can't support the mult-channel files, VGMstream can.

Simplified: You're wrong, VGMstream works fine. Accept the facts, and either split the files (the above method works), or get a better system. Mouser X over and out.
by manakoAT at 1:00 AM EDT on May 12, 2009
i have the same problem with multi-channel files like the adx files from "Okami", as everyone says, vgmstream works fine, it's mine and your system which simply won't support it with 2 speakers...
by Elven Spellmaker at 12:49 PM EDT on May 12, 2009
Make sure Winamp has Surround Sound enabled, also make sure that your speakers are set to Stereo using whatever software your sound card/chip uses. (If you only have stereo speakers).

The output plugin I use is the out_ds.dll, and in the settings I have to have "Allow Hardware Acceleration" on in order to hear the surround sound files. Also it only plays the first 5 or 6 channels. The rest are not played (Such as Koopa Cape which has 8.)

by hcs at 1:40 PM EDT on May 12, 2009
The trick is that these channels aren't all supposed to be played together (with the exception of games with the 6 channels of 5.1 surround), they're supposed to be mixed down to stereo with various weightings, like the dynamic music we find in many other games. It is not within vgmstream's purview to do this mixing, however, as it would require the user to choose what mix he wants, or making probably invalid assumptions. The solution taken now is to simply ignore the problem.
by agu fungus at 11:33 PM EDT on May 12, 2009
OK. I think I got it. I managed to play the wav files in Audacity, and now converting them to mp3. Thanks for the tip.

by hcs at 4:14 PM EDT on May 25, 2009
Could someone upload all of the Punch-Out tracks? We haven't been able to determine anything about looping since this one doesn't loop.

Then again maybe it does, I've gone and added support, check out vgmstream r656 or higher. If you're playing in Winamp you'll need to rename the files to .lwav so Winamp's built-in plugin won't grab 'em (probably).

This is probably a little old since the japanese game has been released earlier this year, but today I uploaded the brstm files and all the SE folder of Another Code R (from the PAL version I bought).
Check here: http://www.zelda-musique.com/files/

The little ACR-SE.zip archive contains some sound effects related files, with a brsar archive. If I remember correctly, we are already aware of this brsar format, thanks to SSB Brawl.

Feel free to download, have a good day!

i noticed klonoa 2 on the torrent site with genh. The torrent is dead, but instead of asking someone to reseed it, i'd like to rip them myself(i guess that's faster), but i can't figure out the offsets and interleave value of the bgmpack.bin, so if someone knows how i can get them.

Also for GTA: San Andreas you have the San Andreas Radio, but i found no documentation about ripping these and make genh from that game. I'd like to make the genh of this game.

Re: by jurassicPieter at 6:51 AM EDT on August 2, 2009
Lego Racers, PC version is ripped by me. It uses a custom tun-fileformat which seems to be nothing else then raw ima adpcm with a 12 bytes header.
I'll post a rip soon if i get a more stable internet connection(i'm stealing the internet of the neighbours and i'm not at home).

Anyway, I made a change to vgmstream to play the wac, waa and wam files from the PS2 version of beyond good and evil. It's just one byte difference in the header and uses ps2 adpcm starting at offset 7e and interleave info at 0x20(should check the code i changed). They play perfectly. Sadly i haven't subversion installed on my computer so i can't add the change. And why is wam/wad/waa set to looping all of the files? Wouldn't it be a good idea that it only loops if it's a wam or waa files? I ripped the PAL version(multi-language) but it's quite big to post.

My assumption is that the files of rayman ravin rabids is using a wii decoding algorithm. Only problem is it has the same header as bge waa/wam/wad files from the gamecube. Let's see with trial and error if I can make the files play.
by hcs at 7:39 AM EDT on August 3, 2009
If you aren't in a position to do diffs of your changes, you can just send me a copy of your modified source.
Re: by jurassicPieter at 5:24 PM EDT on August 3, 2009
OK, i'll send it to the e-mailadress on the contact list. I added it as a new c-file, but i'll implement it in the original ngc_wad_wac_wam.c before sending it.

and here's lego racers (PC version):
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JD9USPN1

since the n64 is still on the requests list and music is practically the same.
by manakoAT at 6:08 PM EDT on August 3, 2009

by SmartOne at 10:07 PM EDT on August 3, 2009
Whoa, Lego Racers? What about Lego Island, eh? Related, perhaps?
Re: by jurassicPieter at 5:58 AM EDT on August 4, 2009
hcs, did you receive the edited c-file?

i'm in the progress in completing my vgm collection. I have Lego Racers for the N64, and since there's no USF yet, i tried the lego racers demo. Sadly it didn't have all the songs as *.tun (so i guess that's why the actual rip was incomplete), so i got it from a downloaded lego racers iso. manaKOAT, i can give you the original filenames too if you want. And I also ripped the wav's from the avi files.

Still I miss the one i'm used to for amazon adventure trail alley. Not sure if it has to do with the illegal copy i dl'ed or that the music is different. I did find out there was a dupe of all the *.tun files though.

some unsupported file formats(yet):
Sim City 3000: maxis XA, not supported by vgmstream, but i have a decoder C++source code that converts them to wav somewhere around here. Could try to add it to vgmstream.
Beyond Good and Evil ps2 version: can't open the trailer movies, file format is mth. I'm not into movie formats.

and some rips i did
A2 Racer(for Dutch gamers): ripped from archive with GAP->wav->genh, avi->wav
A2 Racer II(for Dutch gamers): ripped wav with GAP->wav->genh, avi->wav
Beyond Good And Evil PS2 PAL Version: WAD/WAM/WAC with PS2 adpcm
Darwinia: archive file is hidden rar-file with ogg-files->logg.
Grand Prix 2: wav-files, smk->wav
Gran Turismo 3 PAL Version: *.ads, has different songs than the american version.
WK Voetbal Avontuur 98(Another dutch only game): ripped with GAP to wav->genh, bik->wav
Worms: AVI->wav, CD Audio->wav, raw PCM->genh
Worms 2: AVI->wav, CD Audio->wav
Addiction Pinball: Worms and World Rally: CD Audio->wav, avi->wav
Worms Armageddon: wav
Worms World Party: wav
Worms: Forts Under Siege: avi->wav, ogg, ogg->logg

And all Source Engine games: bik/smk/avi->wav, wmv->wma, mp3, wav, wav->genh

and some sequenced music rips:
Battery Check(Dutch only?): game uses XM, found out it's just a Jazz Jackrabbit mod.
Demarrage: game uses plain s3m
Tetris DS: ripped to mini2sf, now with sped up and dynamic tracks done, though DK Push has some issues
Sim City 2000: sc2000.dat->*.xmi
Skunny Cart(not Skunny Karts, talking about the platformer with level editor): *.mid
Prince of persia: *.mid and *.pcs(unsupported, not even adplug)
Wacky Wheels: *.mid

and need to check out:
tomb raider collection
sim city 4dx
worms 4: Mayhem(i recall it was a xom-file).

need to get disc at parents place:
Amsterdoom(very bad Dutch game)
Lego Creator
Lego Island

I have LEGO Creator and LEGO Island (though, LEGO Island will be hard to find). Anything I could do to help? I've already looked into LEGO Rock Raiders (I didn't see it mentioned above), and it only has 1 WAV file (and perhaps some movies).

It looks like you've done some nice work. Is there any particular reason you don't join us in the chat? With more people discussing ideas, you might be able to help them on things they're currently stumped on, and vice versa.

Anyway, good luck. And if I can help on LEGO Creator (I would think it's sequenced, if there's music at all), let me know what to look for. Mouser X over and out.

Lego Island audio data
Re: by jurassicPieter at 5:44 AM EDT on August 5, 2009
Hey Mouser X,
well i know the basics of ripping music including all the common tools used: vgmtoolkit, gap, game audio extractor, tmpgenc, rad game tools, etc.

I haven't been in the chat because it's holiday time and i haven't been on places with stable internet. I'm at home now, and it's still one week holiday, so i spend some time on ripping discs.
I'd love to find out how vgmstream is working internally. I tried to play the sim city 3000 XA files in vgmstream by modifying it, but all i get ia static, but if i use the docs on http://wiki.multimedia.cx/index.php?title=Maxis_XA and make a program that converts them to raw, it works perfectly. So i guess i do something wrong here. The best i could get was that i heard the music playing but with lots of noise in it.

Not too mention the disc station had become so fragmented that i had some serious loading problems too and there was not enough drive space to defragment it.

During ripping i noticed i had 2 cd's that had hard time reading. Only Tomb Raider I is not 100% rippable. I miss 2 of the cd audio tracks after many retries and cd read errors.

I'll look into Lego Riders probably this monday. I'm now trying to make a traffic jam song for a contest and deadline is tomorrow. :)

I see you did SotN. Are there embedded loop points playable by a regular WMA player or are they somewhere separate in the game code itself? In other words, is there a player capable of looping them outside of the game?
Xbox live arcade games by jurassicPieter at 4:01 PM EDT on August 20, 2009
yes, xbox live arcade games can be ripped by connecting the xbox hard disc to a pc by connecting a sata port to it or with datels hard disc drive or memory card. I don't have it yet, there's a torrent that has the xbla roms. Not sure if it's possible to load the roms from the xbox live servers on a pc directly.
I'd love to get my hands on Banjo Kazooie and Tooie and see if it's emulated. The dynamic music sounds less dynamic on the xbox live arcade version. And on rare witch project all i found were instrument files zip-file as wav.

There's a tool called wx_pirs that can read the xbox live arcade files.

For most wanako games you need bmsreader and the assault heroes bms to get the files from the data.pak file.

Here's Geometry Wars Evolved unedited, though converted from xma to wav:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0FABZT6E

I haven't seen wma's with direct looping information, but then again wma is annoying anyway.

I'd be interested to know if the same could be done for DLC of 360 games in general. There was an added theme or two to Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts through the LOG's Lost Challenges DLC that I'd like to have, though the best rip of that game is some Rare Witch Project line-in at the moment, so the whole thing needs looking at anyway.

@jurassicPieter: Thanks for the GW upload. bxaimc's rip supposedly contains the original .xwb files, so I would still appreciate it if someone could upload that rip.

Also, exactly how do you get the MxSt files to play in vgmstream? It doesn't recognize the file extension...
by Mouser X at 1:17 PM EDT on August 21, 2009
Of course it doesn't. JurassicPieter is editing the source code of VGMstream (which anyone can do, since it's open source) and adding support for the files. And, since he has made no release of his modifications, it would be expected that you can't get it to work in VGMstream. I suspect that, once he gets it working, he'll release a DLL/test.exe, along with his source changes, so that it can be implemented in the main build. Mouser X over and out.
by manakoAT at 3:00 PM EDT on August 21, 2009
"Also, exactly how do you get the MxSt files to play in vgmstream? It doesn't recognize the file extension..." <-- somehow impossible without a vgmstream release, isn't it??

by marioman at 6:17 PM EDT on August 21, 2009
@manakoAT: jurassicPieter's post made it sound like the format was already supported on some way. I am assuming from your post that this is not the case.

@bxaimc: Thanks for the uploads. vgmstream does not seem to support the .xwb format for Geometry Wars. For my reference, what is a good .xwb extractor?
by Mouser X at 6:54 PM EDT on August 21, 2009
The only one that exists is toWave.exe (it's at the bottom of the first post, by the floppy disk icon). XWB contains XMA, and toWave can convert most XMA to WAV. If it's multi-channel though, I don't think it will work, so you might have to figure out how to split it, if that's the case. Mouser X over and out.
by hcs at 7:13 PM EDT on August 21, 2009
For reasons of pendantry:
XWB can contain many things. I think toWave handles most of them.

Sorry by jurassicPieter at 11:15 AM EDT on August 23, 2009
sorry for the confusion i caused.
Yes, i'm working on adding the functionality to vgmstream.
I'm now stuck with counting the number of samples and finding out which files are 16 bit and which files are 8 bit. I have svn ready, so i need to register as developer to adapt changes. I'll probably visit the chat room tomorrow for final bugs and then commit the code on sourceforge

As for xma inside xwb:
there's a program called ekszbox that extracts them in their original form, except it adds a wav header in front which makes towav unable to convert+no player can play the files.

Metroid Prime (Wii de Asobu) (2009)(Nintendo)[Wii][FSB]

These are the .fsb files found on the wii version disc of Metroid Prime (along with the original GC DSPs).
I don't know about the rest, but "Ridley.fsb" sounds a bit different from the GC version to my ears (quality/mix).

It does sound different. Is it not playing right? By the way, does anyone have the music files for the new Wolfenstein?

I plan on ripping the Metroid Prime Trilogy when it comes out on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday, which is why the Metroid Prime you put up isn't in the database. MP1 was re-released on the Wii in Japan on its own disc, but the US gets the better deal. Instead of re-releasing MP1 and MP2 on seperate discs, we get all 3 games on one disc. I'd be surprised if the files from MP Trilogy differ from the Japan MP Wii games. Just pointing out that a rip is already planned. Mouser X over and out.

yea rip/ul it asap mouser :D

The PAL version will be released early next month according to amazon.de - very nice.
Will you make it a complete rip or just include new stuff? I checked the DSPs and they were exactly the same as the gamecube version (same checksum).

I was planning on including everything. But, that's because I didn't know what the game(s) contain(s). If there's "duplicates" then I'd discuss it with "ANUSFEST" and decide from there whether to include them or not. Considering that they're completionists, and that it's a Wii game (and not a NGC game. This is an import note in their difference, in part due to the database that's being maintained), I am leaning toward including everything the disc has to offer. As I said though, it's open for discussion. Mouser X over and out.

hm, the metroid prime sounds better than the messed up dsp files from the original.

hcs, i send you a message on sourceforge to join the developers team for vgmstream. I added support for sob/sab files found in Worms 4: Mayhem and the MxSt files from Lego Island I uploaded earlier. THe latter one still has some issues though.

jurassicPieter, if you're talking about the Metroid Prime FSBs: Those are from the Wii version's sound test. They don't loop, have some proper ends instead of fade-outs and I think some use the mastering from the original soundtrack.

To Mouser X: I guess the only difference in Metroid Prime will be that it has the PAL/JP versions of "Prologue" (different mastering) and "VS. Flaahgra" (extended) and the FSBs for the sound test, so no actual differences between the Trilogy and the GC PAL/JP DSPs (and, thus, again bad loop points).

For Metroid Prime 2 Echoes, it's more complicated, as there are more differences between the Western and the JP version.

NTSC-U/PAL exclusive:
    - gameEnding PlanetAether
NTSC-J exclusive:
    - key-jing3-3-32_dsp
    - system-jin32_dsp
    - zonbihei-japan32_dsp
    - ruminas-japan32_dsp

Additionally, "Title" slightly differs between the JP and Western versions. As the JP tracks have been carried over to the Play on Wii release, I guess those will be used for the Trilogy disc.

Can't say anything about Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, but there are at least two newly composed tracks for the Trilogy, namely the new "Title" (a replacement for the omitted title screens and menus from the three games) and the music for the Disc Channel.

Interesting... Have copies of those dsp's ever been available here? I know you made an excellent collection of MP3s from Metroid Prime 1. Actually, if you wouldn't mind contacting me, if you've got cleaned versions of the others, I'd be happy to add them to the Metroid Database (www.metroid-database.com). Send me an e-mail to evilcowclone (at) gmail (dot) com. I'm planning to update the music as soon as we get dsp's from the Trilogy.

how does one clean a stream file?
by CapComMDb at 10:56 PM EDT on August 25, 2009
The originals had audio glitches, which might be due to imperfect emulation in vgmstream. Most noticeable in Meta Ridley's theme. Prime Blue edited them out:

Speaking of Prime Trilogy, can anyone find the theme used on the new unified menu the disc has? It's new, and it's really good, but for the life of me I can't find it on the disc anywhere. Maybe it's within one of the PAK files?
by ZeldaDD at 12:17 AM EDT on August 26, 2009
Should add that I'd look myself, but I couldn't find a file that does these PAK files. Could be one, but I couldn't find one. If anyone knows of one, I'd love to hear about it.
by valiant at 10:14 AM EDT on August 26, 2009
To CapComMDb: The DSP issues were not vgmstream's fault but that of the sound staff for the game. If you play the game on the GC or Wii, you'll also notice these errors if you listen closely. It's just not as easy to make out during normal gameplay, with all the other sound effects.

As far as I know, the different DSPs for the Japanese MP2 release were not uploaded anywhere yet, but that music will be included in the complete rip I'll be doing in September or October (I'm just in a very BIOHAZARDy mood lately which put MP2 a bit down on my TO-DO list).
