Hey all, just wanted to see how an easy rip/extraction was done, so I tried Chaos Field for GC.

Anyhow, posted here:

Ahoi snakemeat!

We should have that up on the server soon. Thanks for your contribution.

can i upload Super Monkey Ball DX ADX-files somewhere?
by unknownfile at 11:45 AM EDT on September 8, 2006
Look around for free hosting sites that allow sending files of that size.

And no, I cannot give you access to my FTP account.
by marioman at 12:27 PM EDT on September 8, 2006
Try MegaUpload or FileFront. Someone will then download them and put them on the server. (Hopefully)

sendspace.com works well for me, it has a progress bar and allows up to 300 mb

Thanks jurassicPieter, I'm currently organizing my collection and just wanted to verify this is a PS2 rip. Could you let me know? TIA.
Need some help by snakemeat at 12:27 AM EDT on September 15, 2006
Hey all, I'm organizing my sets and wondering if anyone can help me figure out which systems these are from. Most of them have had releases on multiple 'rippable' systems, hence my confusion. They are all ADX sets if that helps.

Dead or Alive 2.rar
Dragon Ball Z Budokai 2 BGM.rar
Jet Set Radio.rar
One.Piece.Grand.Battle.3.JAP.ADX.UNKNOWNFILE.7z
Puyo Pop Fever.rar
Sega GT 2002.rar
Shadow the Hedgehog.rar
Silent Scope.rar
Sonic Adventure 2_ Battle.rar
Sonic Adventure DX.rar
Sonic Heroes.rar
Sonic Riders (ADX).7z
Sonic_Mega_Collection_ADX_.rar
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 Mutant Nightmare (Arcade Game) (ADX).7z
Tennis 2K2.rar
Viewtiful Joe 2 (ADX).7z

Thanks for any help.

Jet Set Radio is Dreamcast.
Shadow the Hedgehog was Gamecube (I ripped it. I should know).
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle is Gamecube (The original, on Dreamcast, was simply called Sonic Adventure 2).
Sonic Adventure DX is Gamecube (Same deal as SA2:B. Dreamcast called it Sonic Adventure).
The version of Sonic Heroes that's currently on the server is the Gamecube version, though I've heard the Xbox version has a higher refresh rate.
Sonic Riders is the Gamecube version, I'm fairly certain. Sir-Sabin ripped it.
Sonic Mega Collection - This one I don't actually know... I think it depends on who's credited for ripping it. UF ripped the PS2 version, and Sir-Sabin ripped the GC version.
TMNT3 - It looks like it came from the Arcade, but I suggest you ask Sir-Sabin. He ripped it.

And the rest, I don't know. Hopefully that was helpful though. Sorry if the formatting is messy. I was to lazy to clean it up better. Mouser X over and out.

Dragon Ball Z Budokai 2 BGM is from the ps2 version.
by BazzatManBowlin at 9:02 AM EDT on September 16, 2006
It might have been missed on the last page, but I've uploaded and verified: WWE SmackDown! 4 - Shut Your Mouth (ADS). I just thought that I'd reiterate that since I still see it in the FTP directory.

Ah, and the Dead or Alive 2 ADXs were from the Dreamcast version.

Nice work, snakemeat. I'll try to help out with the seeding when I get a chance.

I was able to rip the music from the GameCube version of ESPN International Winter Sports 2002, since the "strbgm.vas" in the XBox version wouldn't extract squat.

The only problem is... for some reason, Konami didn't include the menu theme in the "strbgm.bin" (I used HCS's TMNT3:MN extractor for it). The only other BIN files are "WaveData.bin" and "voice0.bin", but they don't extract anything.

Think different - DSP style by unknownfile at 12:24 AM EDT on October 15, 2006
I'm bored. To celebrate, I have started to compile the various utilities on the in_cube page in xcode on OS X. Haven't fully tested them, but for those with Mac OS X (Intel/PPC), you should get testing.

FIRST OFF - adXtract

It still runs under command-line, just so you know. The usage is pretty much the same as the Win32 compile:

./adxtract insert_file_here

Snatch it here.

I (finally!) have a new hard drive on the way. It will hopefully arrive Wednesday. Because of the new drive, I plan on starting a torrent for the GC streamed sets again. However, I don't know if I'll be torrenting the sets in their compressed form (as they are on HCS's site). If I do torrent them in their compressed form, then the ones I torrent will match the ones on HCS's site. In other words, my torrents will not match snakemeat's torrents (sorry man, but I don't prefer ZIP).

The reason I bring this up, is because I'd appreciate some pointers as to which trackers I should submit to. Preferably trackers that allow more than one tracker on the torrent (to spread out where it's shared at), and that don't require a sign-up. I may have some links, but anything anyone can offer would help. Thanks in advance. Mouser X over and out.

Since I've postponed going to Borat - Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Khazakstan to tomorrow, I will be working on a DSP packer tonight, and will stop work to capture Bleach for Rattleman.

Yes, I will also be integrating support of this for in_cube :)
Re: GC sets. by PokeParadox at 4:52 AM EST on November 11, 2006
You have a certain dilema:
If you leave them uncompressed, people are more likely to be able to help seed the sets, since they will have the files handy on their drives for listening purposes. (this is true for me.)

If you do compress them download times will be a bit less since the number of MBs will be lower...
by Mouser X at 10:19 AM EST on November 11, 2006
I was thinking about this, and chances are that I'll seed both. More accurately, once I've downloaded the compressed sets off of HCS's site, it's fairly unlikely that I'll be deleting the archived files. As such, I'll have the archives, and the uncompressed files, on my PC. That is, until I burn a DVD of the archived files. So, until I burn a DVD of the archived files, I'll probably seed both files, and the archives.

However, no one has recommended torrent sites yet. Perhaps you'd be more inclined to do so on IRC? Mouser X over and out.
by snakemeat at 1:07 PM EST on November 17, 2006
Sounds good man, but to be fair Connie started the GC torrent not me. I just want to give credit where due.

Been building a new machine lately, and my mIRC is jacked up, but I should see you guys in #usf soon.

I wish I could help you with public trackers, I just don't know any :( My experience with people who don't remotely give back what they take has soured the public tracker in my eyes.
Good news by unknownfile at 11:12 PM EST on December 1, 2006
I was sitting around and thought about helping out. So, I am going to see if I can get Sea running a (semi) dedicated BitTorrent seeding service. It's currently equipped with around 100 GB of space (over two IDE drives), and my extra internet line has been collecting dust, so it seemed natural to get it back up and running.

Now all that remains is a tracker, I guess.
by unknownfile at 9:53 PM EST on December 2, 2006
Can't tell if your Gamecube disk has streaming audio or not? Here's how:

Insert (or "set") your disk, and power on. Once music starts playing, open the top. If the music is streamed, the game will most likely tell you "Disk Error", otherwise the game will just continue. Beware, as some games (eg Zelda WW) use both types of music formats.

Also, fish.
by unknownfile at 10:18 PM EST on December 3, 2006
Found some stuff on THP audio, and noticed similarities with AFC. the source is here.

Here's part of the code reworked for in_cube:

int AFCdecodesample (char *stuff) {
    long input;
    // this code taken from the THP documentationthing
    if (initialized == 0) {
        input = ( *stuff >> 4) & 7;
        input = input & 0xf;
        input++;
        blockcount=2;
    } else {
        if ((blockcount & 0xf)==0) {
            input = ( *stuff >> 4) & 7;
            input = input & 0xf;
            input++;
            blockcount+=2;
        }

        if((blockcount & 1) != 0) {
            input=(input << 28) & 0xf0000000;
            input=input >> 28;
            ++input;
        } else {
            input = (input << 24) & 0xf0000000;
            input = input >> 28;
        }
        blockcount++;
    }
    return input;
}

Someone (snes_rocks)came into #usf today, and asked about the streamed sets. I'm currently setting up the files on my PC. Once I get that taken care of, I'll setup the torrents. Though, due to time constraints (job, Zelda: TP), don't hold your breath on that.

On that note, can anyone think of a good tracker I could use? I plan on submitting it to multiple trackers to increase seeds and availability. However, I'd like a smallish tracker (like the HCS tracker, hint hint HCS) to keep all of the files together. That way, I can have a centralized place for people to link to, if they're interested in more, and can't find them on the tracker sites they search.

Anyway, I think I'm pretty close to done with Zelda, so I might be able to have some results for streamed stuff in about a week (I say that, so hope for 2... I've never been very good with a schedule). Of course, as I said, that's if I'm close to done with Zelda (and I have the time to finish it).

Hopefully that small update is useful news to people who were interested. Mouser X over and out.

Did some analysis on the JaiSeq player formats:

JaiSeq.arc
This is a packed file containing sequences. The method of playback of the packed files is currently unknown.

*.bms
Sequence data.

JaiInit.aaf
Contains pointers to setting up variables in the sequence player, such as sound banks, AFC tracks, etc.

*.afc
Streaming audio data.

*.aw
Sample banks for sequence playback. These apparently use the same sampling method as AFC.

Interesting to note, Super Mario Sunshine uses a modified version of JaiSeq. I'm gonna need to dig around a bit more to do analysis on SMS.

No.

Those themes are sequenced.
by marioman at 8:49 PM EST on December 9, 2006
So, there are streamed AND sequenced versions of AFC? The GC Stream Database says that Luigi's Mansion is AFC.
by hcs at 9:24 PM EST on December 9, 2006
It has some streams, but mostly sequences. The samples used for the sequences are most likely the same format, though, so this brings us a step closer to playing them.

Generic news about JaiSeq:

JaiSeq loads stuff in the following order, but this is most likely inaccurate:

JaiInit.aac (sets up stuff)
sample banks
JaiSeqs.arc (RARC archive)
sequences from within JaiSeqs.arc

The sample banks use a different codec than AFC, though it is similar.

Once I learn how to use the MIDI API in Windows, I might be able to find out how to convert the BMSes over to MIDI, and then write a sequence player to play the sequences in in_cube (though it would require a player control similar to NotSoFatso's, from what I can tell).

Oh, and by the way, Super Mario Sunshine uses a modified sequence player. The sequences.arc file is compressed, but is not actually a RARC file.

I know this isn't exactly the right place to post this, but it's close.

HCS has included experimental support for RSF files into in_cube. For those wondering, Metroid Prime uses RSF files. There's 4 of them. The credits, 2 frontends, one of which is the save loading screen, and a Samus one (I forget where in the game it's used). Anyway, HCS has included the ability to change some settings in in_cube, to allow people to try and find a clearer playback setting. I was wondering if anyone would like to help clear that up? My current settings are:

29125
12875

Anyway, I must go now. Good luck with that. Mouser X over and out.
by unknownfile at 11:28 AM EST on December 12, 2006
Experimental? Hrmm... hopefully it will be working next December (remember AFC?) :P.

Then again, why not just disassemble the DSP code and find out what does what?

Also, I would like to request AW streams be decoded, so then I can start working on BMS sequence playback (I have plenty of time over winter break, with my wisdom teeth being removed and all).

Btw, later today... BILLY HATCHER OMG

Mouser, could you put the MP3s you are comparing to online somewhere?
bmses woupii by unknownfile at 11:43 AM EST on December 13, 2006
Did some analysis of BMS last night. They share a header of around 4 bytes or so, which then some stuff is set up. I'm going to try and analyze the rest of the data in the files, and blah blah blah.

Also, I figure this will need 16 channels' worth of data so that might be a pain to program into in_cube, so yeah.

VGMTrans, to my knowledge, does not support this format.

I put together a small bms ripper for the arc files found in Super Mario Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion in the Seqs directory. It is very broken right now, so I'll try and have those bugs fixed tommorow.

Jouw,

First off, there is an edit feature. Check below your post.

Secondly, I wouldn't bother with Super Mario Sunshine as most of the tracks are sequenced, and I'm trying to figure out how the sequence format works.

I don't know where to put Paper Mario, though, even though I have it. Perhaps a megaupload link would be fine?

Mario Kart Double Dash is on the server, but I will not link it here to avoid bandwidth being raped.

Hey, MouserX or UNKNOWFILE or hcs... How would I go about getting the Chibi-Robo set? I was so impressed with the Custom Robo set laying about the hcs site, I figured I'd give Chibi-Robo a try as well.

Whatever works best for you guys!

UF, Mouser, anyone with space on the server, go ahead and upload and link things, saves me the trouble. A few sets won't hurt, it is having a massive selection that causes issues.
by Mouser X at 6:12 PM EST on January 27, 2007
I have Chib-Robo, but I've never uploaded it anywhere... Same goes for Robotech: Battlecry, and Dark Summit. I did upload Metal Arms: Glitch in the system, but the files aren't fully supported in in_cube. Yes, they play, but at the wrong sample rate. As such, they play either too fast, or too slow (it depends on the file). The problem is, is that HCS hasn't found a good, solid way of figuring out the sample rate on a per-file basis. As a general rule, if it has $ in the name, it's played at 22khz, though not always (and that's the problem, it's not consistent enough). If it doesn't have $ in the filename, then it's usually music, and played at 48khz (but again, not always, but most of the time).

However, Chibi-Robo plays just fine. I should probably upload that somewhere... I haven't done so, because I haven't "cleaned" it up (there's soundFX, etc. strewn in with the music). I could just RAR it up as is (which has been done with other sets, namely LEGO Star Wars 1 and 2), and upload it that way. All things considered, that might be the best idea, since chances are that I'm not going to be getting around to cleaning it up soon...

The problem with Robotech and Dark Summit is similar. However, Robotech is a real mess (last I remember). I'm lead to believe that, due to the messiness (as I remember it), the files I've gotten from Robotech are developmental. They might not actually be used in-game. I very possibly could be wrong. It's been a long time since I looked at those files.

The Dark Summit game that I got was a multi-language PAL version. The audio contains English, and a few other languages. SoundFX, voice overs, everything, is repeated multiple times. It's not pretty, but I guess I could probably RAR up the English ones, and I should be fine (I'd have to look again, to make sure there isn't other stuff hiding around that's not in the English directory).

To the best of my memory, those are the sets that I have on my PC that haven't yet been distributed. Anyone interested in them? Any ideas what trackers/sites I could use to torrent/upload them? If I upload them, I'll need a site that allows me to continue an upload, since I get disconnected so often. Yes, I can use HCS's site, but I don't know how to directly link to the files I upload.

Anyway, suggestions would be most welcome, as I'd be happy to torrent these things (if I can get the motivation to organize them slightly more than they are now...). Mouser X out.
by Blank at 9:04 PM EST on January 28, 2007
If "cleaning up" only involves deleting sound effect files from the collection, I'd be more than happy to do that for you. If it requires tweaking of the disc image and redumping it or whatever, you can count me out.

Either way, I believe my FTP server supports upload resuming, and I can upload it to the BitTorrent site of your choice. MiniNova, The Pirate Bay, and IsoHunt seeming to be the biggest right now.

As for linking off of the HCS server, I assume one would simply reference the www.hcs64.com/files/BLAH.RAR link in posts here. =P

by Mouser X at 12:19 AM EST on January 31, 2007
Well, HCS has given me better access to the server. As such, I can now direct link files that I've uploaded. So, I shouldn't need webspace, I don't think. Now the issue is a tracker, and cleaning up sets. Considering how long I've been sitting on some of these (1 year + for Dark Summit, I think...) I think my best option would be to archive what I have, and upload it as-is. If I do that, then cleaning wouldn't need to be done either (but dang, I don't like the mess...).

What it comes down to is, thanks for the offer of webspace (it is appreciated, and I *might* still take you up on the offer, to help cut down on bandwidth usage from HCS's server, if that's an option). However, I'd like some (so, more than one) torrent sites that are easy (very) to upload (and probably register) to, so that these can be distributed in an easier (less bandwidth hungry, once seeds are built) way.

The other issue I'm mildly concerned about, is what sets to torrent. "Duh, all of them," you say. I agree. The problem is, I want to match HCS's server, where possible (he still has them all on the server, but access is denied, due to bandwidth reasons. Also, there's a *few* that, in my opinion, should be torrented in their original fashion). I know I made a list of who uploaded what. Even so, it's been awhile, and it makes it slightly difficult to match HCS's sets to the ones I already have. I *could* just redownload everything off of HCS's site, but that's a waste of his bandwidth, and of my disc space. I think what I'll try to do, is get CRC numbers for the sets on the server, and CRC numbers for my sets. Using the right software, it will search for the correct CRC number, even if the filename is different. That'd be the easiest way for me to verify what I do, and do not have. If I can do that, I'll see about torrenting/uploading stuff.

Again, what I'd really like is a list of easy, reasonably reliable, torrent sites (that are preferably open. Demonoid and Underground-Gamer are closed/private sites, and generally require high ratios to use [which I always have, yes, but I want it open for other people as well]). So, if some good sites can be mentioned/used and such with ease, then I'll see what I can do (sorry it's taken me so very long...). Mouser X over.

I pretty much use www.IsoHunt.com exclusively, but I'm not sure you can upload a torrent directly to them.

For that, use http://www.mininova.org/ or http://thepiratebay.org/ two very popular Suprnova replacements.

Man, how I miss Suprnova!
by unknownfile at 10:17 PM EST on February 2, 2007
Blame the MPAA and their moneybags, which they always want 100% full.

You'll probably want to use Joh's GC tracker, but it requires registration and you need to seed on a regular basis.

Oh, and the TPB staff are after your money.

I recall someone had the ADX of super monkey ball adventure. I'd like to have them. I can't find a complete SMB Adventure Rom Anywhere so I could extract them myself.

Ahoi anewuser, about time you got off your ass and registered :P

Well... now that HCS opened back up the bonus directory/upload FTP, I've uploaded and verified The House of the Dead 3 (ADX) and ESPN International Winter Sports 2002 (DSP).

Someone who has access to the main FTP can go ahead and move em' over to the main directory, whenever they feel like it.

I should now have *every* streamed set available (either from the HCS tracker, or HCS's site... If it wasn't on one of those two, then I don't have it. Unless it's one I ripped, and never uploaded...). As such, I've been attempting to run some comparisons across various things. Hopefully the end result will be a SFV (or similar) file to check the various sets (both compressed, and uncompressed) against. I've run across a few instances where some sets are more complete than others, and where some sets are in need of cleaning (LEGO Star Wars has empty, and therefore pointless, directories in it, as well as useless files...). The biggest problem I have encountered thus far is that Emil007 and Sir-Sabin both ripped, and distributed, Mario Smash Football/Super Strikers. However, as far as I can tell, they were ripped from two very different versions of the game. One has lots of IDSP files (Emil's, mostly), and one seems more complete (Sir-Sabin's, it looks like). Sir-Sabin's also has IDSP files, but they're mostly the chanting, and voices, and stuff. It looks like Emil's rip has IDSP files of lots of stuff...

Anyway, while I haven't succeeded in putting these up on a torrent (and probably won't be able to. My ISP is complaining about my internet usage), I hope that I'll be able to at least provide a means whereby people can verify their sets against a more robust system.

When I get these SFV (or similar) files available, I would greatly appreciate it if people would use them, and tell me the results. If there's any issues, I'd like to correct them where possible. Hopefully, I'll be able to make these available soon (expect a week or 2... I don't exactly work quickly).

Anyway, I just thought that some people might appreciate this information. Mouser X over and out.

Hey hcs, I hear rumor that you actually converted the Star Fox Assault DSPs to an MP3 gamerip. If that is the case, would you be so kind to post a list of tags for the DSP files? I would appreciate that.
by hcs at 11:31 PM EDT on April 19, 2007
I'm not sure where this rumor came from, if there is such a rip it is not by me.
by marioman at 7:17 AM EDT on April 20, 2007
OK, I did a little more research, and I think that I know what is going on. It seems that some people at gamingforce.com are taking rips from the bonus folder, converting them to MP3, and then crediting you for ripping them. I see that they have done this for Battalion Wars and SFA. (And possibly more.)
by Mouser X at 7:46 PM EDT on April 20, 2007
HCS didn't rip Battalion Wars. That was Emil007. If possible, could you post a link, or inform them of this? I just figure it's nice to give credit where credit is due... A website really should be made (PHP or HTML, or whatever, and all that) so that these things could be more clearly sorted out. I should stop being so lazy/sidetracked, and put together a (very badly) rudimentary page for these things... I'm not that good with HTML (let alone PHP), but I can cut+paste just fine...

I wrote up a TXT file that credited most of the rippers/distributors a bit back. Snakemeat used that data to make some list things that could be used to verify/rename/something some of the streamed sets. I don't remember the links for either of those though. Look a few paged back, it's probably in this thread somewhere.

And yes, converting these streamed sets to MP3 happens a lot. Lack of compatibility with other players, lack of tags, and somewhat large file size are probably to blame for this fact. Oh well. At least they're being put to use. Mouser X over and out.
by marioman at 10:03 PM EDT on April 20, 2007
Here you go. These threads are not the most up-to-date, but they credit hcs for those rips. I do happen to know that that SFA rip is circulating somewhere with hcs' name on it. (I do not know where though. I would like to get my hands on it.)

Star Fox Assault rip thread
Batallion Wars rip thread

Interestingly enough, the second thread just provides a link to the bonus folder.

I hope that this is a help... Or something.
Perfect Cherry Blossom by unknownfile at 10:59 PM EDT on April 20, 2007
While this is technically not a Gamecube game, the music is streamed in 16-bit signed stereo PCM. Because I am bored, and also because the player that comes with PCB sucks, I am converting the set over to DSP audio that actually loops.

I am currently searching about the player EXE to find loop points and everything, but for now, here's the first track in the bank:

My cherry blossom is more perfect than yours

Well, it appears there has been a set already converted and released, though the site that hosted it appears to be down.

Mega Man: Network Transmission by Tiberious at 9:39 PM EDT on April 25, 2007
Erm, is there a reason why the MM:NT files don't loop when played? I'm sure they're supposed to, as the files at Atomic Fire do, but is that stored in some other file, perhaps?

Just looking for info is all :3
by hcs at 10:22 PM EDT on April 25, 2007
The code seems to copy that part of the DSP header, so it must be located elsewhere.
by marioman at 7:52 AM EDT on April 26, 2007
I don't see any DSP files on Atomic Fire. What page are you finding them on?
by Tiberious at 10:42 PM EDT on April 26, 2007
marioman: They're not DSPs, but they DO have MP3s where it's clear the files are supposed to loop (though some just go right back to the beginning).
by marioman at 8:10 AM EDT on April 27, 2007
Oh, if they are just MP3s, there are about a million ways to get them to loop. Just because the MP3s loop doesn't mean that the DSPs were looping.
by nensondubois at 3:36 PM EDT on May 13, 2007
Wario World is missing the pause track and the treasure track (When you first obtain the treasure)
I have checked th DSP file but in winamp but they are both missing as far as I can tell.
by Blank at 9:19 PM EDT on May 17, 2007
MouserX, if you have every GCN rip, why don't you upload a torrent to The Pirate Bay or something?

Or something. Or something. Anything? Please? Screw your ISP! =P

My hard drive died. If I can't recover the data, then I may be out of luck. Also, I've got PC problems so I won't be responding at all past this post for at least a week. Please tell the #usf channel in case they wonder. Note* I have no keyboard and thus no enter key. This post was made with copy and paste (took an hour). Mouser X out.

(continuing the thread from Gamecube music)What about Goldeneye Rogue Agent? Is it too big or something?

Is it on the GC Stream Database? If it is, then see if it works. If it isn't, then no one has downloaded it, and tested it yet. Currently, I don't have enough drive space, or bandwidth, to download it. So, I don't know about it one way or the other.

As for being too big, that's somewhat unlikely, since there's some very large sets available. Sorry I couldn't answer your question more thoroughly. Mouser X over and out.

Good grief! Talk about dedication. You deserve an award for that.

Anyways, hope that your PC problems are resolved soon.

Another torrent of all the streamed sets I can find, many from the old bonus dir, many from a friend. Grab it here

I already said this on UG, but thanks! This is an amazing collection. I just wish my PC was working (and that I had the HDD space)... Mouser X out.

Does anyone here have Navi Trackers?
by Tanookirby at 11:21 PM EDT on August 27, 2007
If Twilight Princess has streams, than is it possible rip the music from other Wii games? Has anyone tried to get Super Paper Mario music? It might be the same as Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.
by Omochao at 1:57 AM EDT on August 28, 2007
It probably would be, if we could read the ISOs.
