Mortal Kombat - Deadly Alliance (2002-11-18)(Midway)\music_tune11.msx_3.xwav has a leftover RIFF string in offset 0x2ABA00 that is preventing the file to play properly (which seems to be the starting header of music_tune11.msx_4.xwav).

The demux'ed audio files doesn't seem to play properly and may need to undergo .genh/.vgmstream processes. Maybe someday the set will make use of mode = layers to get looped music to play for convenience.

Well it'd be much more helpful if you actually said what's wrong with that file: either there's a short audible glitch in the very end or its playtime is shorter or longer than it's supposed to be or something else entirely.
Also a real old-timer on these forums will quickly get you're talking about an Xbox set but it'd be nice if you specified platform too.

Anyway if someone wants to rerip the game I guess it can be done rather easily & quickly: Deadly alliance had absolutely different MSX archives when compared to the format used in Deception & Armageddon, the latter had RIFF headers stored separately while MK:DA used normal wave streams.
Maybe a generic file type scanner I employed for the task didn't do the job properly (and VGMToolbox's advanced cutter is much more reliable and modern choice)? I admit the tool I used for extraction of individual WAVs (tracks with RIFF file start & WAVEfmt string in the beginning) out of *.MSX bigfiles is quite old and there's a possibility of malfunction in some cases.
Although (keep it in mind) I'm not 100% sure I used the program I'm talking about, maybe (like 5% or even 10% chance) I chose to set up this script and let QuickBMS do all the splitting.

Later!

@Ultrafighter

I'm surprised my post didn't include the Xbox tag.

Having the RIFF string at the end of the file makes it completely unplayable. It will not play at all via in_vgmstream (tested with Winamp) unless the RIFF string at the EOF is removed.

The files seems to be fine. Never got to verify it with the actual content yet, but I don't think a re-rip is necessary. The issue with it was just that one .xwav file with the leftover RIFF string that just requires it to be trimmed out, as well as the demux'ed content that likely can be fixed with .genh/.vgmstream. From there, I'm sure .txtp/.txth can be used (if it supports loop pointers for .xwav) for the looping portion.
by Ultrafighter at 4:01 AM EDT on October 1, 2018
"It will not play at all via in_vgmstream (tested with Winamp)"
This probably explains it, I use FB2K all the time and that specific file supposedly played fine when I listened to all the tracks before zipping & uploading them. I would have given music_tune11.msx_3.xwav an (unplayable) prefix if I had run into any issues with it back then.

"...the demux'ed content that likely can be fixed with .genh/.vgmstream"
Do you mean streams with RAW extension and (mov) tag? I demuxed XMVs with VGMT & left those files untouched, I thought it's the way to do it and there's no rule against it here.
I presume I had "add header to output" field checked but is it a problem at all? I guess it'd save me lots of time if audio from different videos had different specs (frequency, maybe even amount of channels) and it's a good default method anyway.
Or did I misunderstand you and you meant something else (like "(cs) *.xwav" group)? Those were ripped exactly the same way that clean BGM (without any prefixes in filenames) was, they didn't come from any prerendered movies (XMVs or any other codec).

I suppose it clears it all up but if not never hesitate to ask more questions. Regards, Ultrafighter.

@ChillyBilly you don't mind if sometime later this week if I work on the KOFXIV loop pointers for the PC set you released? It may also need the new DLC content included.

You can add-in the DLC set and, for leniency, send over a log dump containing all the vgm files proposed for the set and I'll send over the .pos files necessary. If you do not want to go through with it, I do not mind doing a complete set rip (I can give you the credit for ripping original base-game content + Ver 2.0 DLC).

Do you have Discord by chance?

@AceK: Sorry for not responding sooner. Anyway, as far as KOF goes, unfortunately, I got rid of the source files shortly after I uploaded that rip. I guess I could download it again, but it would take me some time since I've already got my hands full with other stuff..... so you're probably better off doing your own rip, as you yourself suggested. Once again, my apologies.

That being said, here are a few sets I DO have ready:

Hello

I'm looking for help about extracting files from Rainbow Six Vegas 1 & 2 sound archives (.SB0, .SB4, .SS4, .SP4 files).
I started a thread here : https://zenhax.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8662

Here : http://pc.joshw.info/t/ I found an archive containing music files from Rainbow Six Vegas 2, it seems they have been ripped from the game's archive, that's why I'm posting this here.

I wonder if I can contact the author of the archive through here ? Maybe he has the solution to my problem... His user name is Ultrafighter, I found his post here : https://hcs64.com/mboard/forum.php?showthread=26929&showpage=286#post_55068
I can't find a private message button.

Also I have all the music from a game that's not in the index (Fable 2 - xbox 360) and I'd like to upload it, how can I do that ?

Thanks in advance
Broula

You'd better ask Bnnm here, post numerous samples of files with various extensions (.SB4, .SS4, etc.) and wait for a reply: maybe he'll be able to add these formats to VGMstream, maybe not. If I got it correctly then every UbiSoft game needs its own approach and tiny fixes because devs change their audio format pretty often, that's why each title has to be implemented from scratch.
If you're lucky enough you'll get something like this: untouched sound banks that become playable in the plugin. I guess you'll have to add smaller ones into playlist and they'll serve as sort of playlists for actual audio streams contained in bigger archives.
Or maybe someone else will make an extractor script for you, it's also possible but you should head for that thread first.

I only added Rainbow six - Vegas 2 PC rip to JoshW.Info because it was 100% OGG, I decided it's nothing too criminal to extract Vorbis tracks in that situation.
When it comes to Vegas 1 (it's like 90% or 95% OGG) or Far cry - Instincts (100% headerless Ubi ADPCM (?)) or stuff like that I only post it there, I consider this topic the most appropriate place for semi-streamed or not-flawless or definitely incomplete gamerips.

See you!

PS. I'm wondering if every single track from that Fable 2 rip is playable, I found many unplayable files in Fable 3 & Fable - Heroes (both can be found here) sets so maybe extraction methods which are currently available aren't perfect? It's pure speculation of course.

Ok thank you very much for all the details, I'll try Bnnm.

I'm not sure what you meant by I only added Rainbow six - Vegas 2 PC rip to JoshW.Info because it was 100% OGG, I decided it's nothing too criminal to extract Vorbis tracks in that situation.

How did you (assuming it's you ?) rip all these ogg and from what files using which script ? What do you mean by "not too criminal" is it ironical regarding the quality of the audio provided or it is for copyright infringement matters ?

100% ogg for RSV2 and 90-95% ogg for RSV1 meaning there is no archive for RSV1 because not all the files were playable ? And why were the Fable Heroes and Fable 3 archives uploaded to JoshW.Info even though they are not flawless ?

Many questions sorry.

Concerning Fable 2, I used ravioli game tools to extract the .xma sound files from the .bnk archives. Then I used xmash and towav to convert the .xma to .wav. I have all the sounds, atmospheres, music, dialogues, etc, everything in .wav (lossless) and playable.

I just downloaded the archive for Fable heroes
and Fable 3 but the .xma won't convert to .wav when I pass them through xmash and towav tools. Foobar2000 (with vgstream) can't read most of them, as you said.

I don't understand why even the ones foobar2000 can play and convert can't be converted through xmash/towav. I don't know anything about audio codecs and such things so I can't imagine the reason.

Anyways, none of this happened while I was converting Fable 2 .xma files to .wav, everything went smooth. Sometimes the xmash/towav tool would fail converting one isolated file but in that case I needed only to add another .xma file in the folder and repeat the operation and it would work. Didn't work with Fable 3 or Fable Heroes though.

So I'm positive I have every sound for Fable 2 playable and in lossless quality. I didn't convert the 48000+ speech files yet but I'm at 3500+ and every file I passed through xmash/towav was converted successfully. Now how can I upload them ?

Sorry for the long post, I'm not good at summarizing. And this whole game files format is such a mess... (see ? two sentences instead of one (three now))

Wandersong (Yes, there's some SFX mixed in there. But in this case, they're technically part of the music)

Welcome to Bummertown

PS4

Metal Max Xeno

Sengoku Basara: Sanada Yukimuri-Den (Like the PS3 version, the audio came in .sspr files. Thankfully, my previous experience ensured I got this version done faster! That being said, I'm thinking about tackling the PS4 version of Sumeragi at some point, as well....)

That's all for now. Later!
by Ultrafighter at 2:50 AM EDT on October 10, 2018
"How did you (assuming it's you ?) rip all these ogg and from what files using which script ?"
I scanned all *.SS0 files with decubisndgui.exe from this tool pack and extracted everything it found to separate files on my HDD.
Most stingers / loops / layers had OGG extension and were indeed playable Vorbis-encoded streams, a few files from Vegas 1 had *. layer extension, as far as I know only decubisnd.exe or decubisndgui.exe can play/decode such streams to PCM WAV but first a ripper has to find correct frequency/sample rate for them.
Finally a few tracks were PCM WAV from the start, they were headerless though and the right value for frequency had to be found too; I don't remember what extension decubisndgui originally assigned to them. They're *.ra files (it's short for *.raw) in my rip of Vegas 1 (more about it later).

"What do you mean by "not too criminal" is it ironical regarding the quality of the audio provided or it is for copyright infringement matters ?"
Surely it was just a wee bit of irony considering high standards for most/all rips submitted here and intended to be backed up @JoshW.Info. I'm sure that all the gamerips I upload here qualify for HCS64 VGM collection but whenever I'm not sure that a rip is good enough for HCS & I still want to share it I post it in the Distribution Thread.
Something unusual/nontrivial or presumably incomplete goes there too: for example ITT I upped a completely custom selection of multi-channel tracks from dozens of Rock band DLCs (it's like 1% or 2% of RB DLCs in existence) plus Guitar hero Live X360 set - it should contain every single BGM / instrument SFX used by the game but not ingame guitar multi-tracks because the latter were encrypted thus not rippable.

"there is no archive for RSV1 because not all the files were playable ?"
There is, it was originally posted there (the last message on the page) BUT those links aren't available now. I have the complete package stashed somewhere else though, would you like to get it? I suppose I can upload it to MEGA or Google Drive if it's fine by you.

"And why were the Fable Heroes and Fable 3 archives uploaded to JoshW.Info even though they are not flawless ?"
It's entirely possible that a ripper didn't find it out for himself because he didn't listen to every file from his rip or even added it to playlist for a test.
If you're interested I've found a workaround for all unplayable files from FH & all but 3 unplayables from F3 so that I can write about the method here: it will let you listen to tracks without reripping the games from the scratch.

As for F2: you'll have to rerip it if you want your archive to be added to Xbox 360 archive because XMA converted to WAV isn't allowed here. Technically speaking you can upload initial XMAs (the ones Ravioli game tools output after it stopped scanning BNK bigfiles) and it'll be fine, it's obvious you should only include BGMs / CS (if the latter even have music in them) but maybe such a set will pass the checking procedure after all.
I'd still suggest you extract untouched *.xma streams with another program named VGMToolbox, I can give you more details if you're willing to redo that gamerip.

Later!

@Ultrafighter aboutthe 2:50 AM 10 october 2018 post

1 - about Rainbow Six Vegas 1&2 do you have any idea why everyone you included has *.SS0 files and I have *.SS4 ? Could it be because I extracted the files from an xbox 360 iso ? I passed the *.SS4 files in the decubisndgui.exe and extracted a few playable .wav and .ogg (13 files actually) but nowhere near the hundreds of files in the archive you posted here

Most of the *.SS4/*.SB4 files are empty (according to decUbiSndGui or filled with "interleaved stream (raw 16-bit uncompressed)" files that sound like white noise. Some have 1 layer, other two layers, I don't know what it means. I can extract them to *.layers files but I don't understand what it is.

I'm interested in this RSV1 package you mentionned, even though I don't think I can do anything with it, maybe latter when I'll have made some progress hopefully.

2 - about the "JoshW.Info high standards", I think I understand

3 - I'm not really interested in Fable Heroes and Fable 3 sounds, I didn't play the first and didn't like the second very much. Maybe someday, but not now. And also I didn't understand what is this workaround method you are talking about, sorry for beeing such a noob.

4 - concerning Fable 2 *.xma rip, I downloaded that VGMToolbox but I don't know how to use it to extract the *.xma from the *.BNK. I'm not against learning how to use the tool but what difference does it make that I extract them through ravioli game tools instead of VGMtoolbox ?

I assume you don't want heavy .wav/lossless files on the Joshw.info index for compression/folder size reasons ?

Of course I would extract only the music for this upload. "it's obvious you should only include BGMs / CS" BGMs stands for Background Musics ? what does CS mean ?

Thanks for your time.

@Broula - about Rainbow Six Vegas 1&2:
Yes, it's most likely platform-specific: Bnnm should know much more about SS# / SP# / SB# files actually. I presume SS0/SP0/SB0 are used on PC while SS4/SP4/SB4 are their Xbox 360 counterparts.
And it was quite expected from devs to use entirely different codecs on X360, I'm afraid you have no options here other than asking Bnnm for help - Xbox version might use headerless XMA or something more uncommon (and also headerless) so that you need assistance of a pretty advanced coder to rip your game.

Here's my rip of RS:V1 for PC, it consists of playable files only (not initial archives). You can also use this mirror.

About Fable workaround method:
It's usage of this BMS.

"What difference does it make that I extract them through ravioli game tools instead of VGMtoolbox?"
Maybe not a single difference but VGMtoolbox is a much more trusted tool here + it can do lots of VGM ripping routines, not just scan archives for most widespread (audio) formats. Of course it should only concern you if you want to add your F2 rip to Joshw.info: if it's intended for personal use only then you can disregard all the XMAs and leave just decoded WAVs on your PC.

"I assume you don't want heavy .wav/lossless files on the Joshw.info index for compression/folder size reasons ?"
XMA to PCM conversions aren't needed @JoshW because it's lossy to lossless transcode and practically a mere waste of space. Finally the most important point is this: original *.xma streams might be playable with VGMstream plugin, that's why we'd like to preserve them untouched and not re-encoded to Wave files or whatever.
And I'm not a gamerip moderator or server owner so that it should actually be Bxaimc / Knurek or JoshW himself answering you questions )) . I didn't upload my RS:V2 rip straight to pc.joshw.info/t/ , it was checked first by either Bxaimc or Knurek then moved to JoshW servers.

"what does CS mean ?"
It's cutscene or game engine machinima (as opposed to a pre-rendered video file) but if F2 is more or less the same as F3 then music from such scenes should be free from voiceovers / SFX and be located in the same directory as ingame / menu / interface tracks. Only filenames should indicate they come from cutscenes.

Bye!

Got a few PS4 goodies here:

Dariusburst: Chronicle Saviours

Kyoei Toshi*

Toro

*aka City Shrouded in Shadow. Anyway, I'm not 100% certain I have all this game's music due to a curious issue that came up during the ripping process.... the ACB/AWB pairings gave me files with mixed-up filenames for some reason. I picked out all the music I could find, but the aforementioned issue makes it tricky for me to determine which is or isn't voices/SFX, sadly. Still, if anyone wants, I could upload the sound folder so a more accurate rip can be made...
by bxaimc at 6:08 PM EDT on October 23, 2018
That’s why It takes me forever to do some ACB/AWB rips, I have to manually rename each HCA following the cue/wave ID tables. I’m stubborn so I refuse to upload until I’m satisfied :)

I think I still have that game. I’ll take a look later.

Compare filesizes and you'll easily notice that a set currently available @Josh's is missing tons of tracks: XWB versions of most (or all?) WMA encoded files, cutscenes, lots of additional BGMs & of course some DJ announcements.

@ bxaimc: I found what appears to be the acb file for Hero Game (Deep in the 11gb pak file. I named it ACB and cut it to how other acbs look like but couldn't get it working in VGMTB.

ACB but vgmtb is not accepting it.

"Processing AWB file: 'Bgm.awb'.
Processing ACB file: 'Bgm.acb'.
Error received: Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

I guess I will just manually edit them as all the names are there. The cue has more than 27 BGM compared with the HCAs though

Was pretty busy this week, so I didn't get much done.... which is unfortunate, since I'd have loved to have gotten some horror-themed goodies posted for Halloween. Oh, well. Anyways, here's what I've got:

PC

Just Beat Em Up: World of Fury

Tasty Planet Forever

Tiny-Tasy Town

PS4

WipEout: Omega Collection (Wwise, but thankfully there weren't too many files, so I sorted it out myself! Lot of quiet tracks, though...).

No guarantee if I'll get anything else done over the weekend...

Edit: Dang, I forgot to mention this earlier, but.... back on the subject of the Wipeout rip, the two tracks I extracted from the BNK file caused my player to crash for some reason. I dunno if this will happen for anyone else, but I'm throwing the heads-up out there, just in case. Of course, I included the BNK as well, for anyone else who wants to take a crack at a proper rip.

@ ChillyBilly

I remember looking at that game earlier in the year and there were either high bit or 8 ch wem or something. I got a headache from that game so gave up. Glad you got it done.
by abuse of circ at 12:57 PM EDT on November 3, 2018
The Lands of Lore set appears to be the AdLib and MIDI files from the game's data (some of it extracted from the relevant PAK file, I assume). There are a number of Hoot sets like that, of course, but it's the first time I've seen something like that uploaded into the PC directory.

Is this a new thing? Are there parameters laid out anywhere for what formats are acceptable? Can we just upload any files that a commmon plugin can handle?
by Knurek at 1:46 PM EDT on November 3, 2018
I've been thinking whether to allow the rip or not and ultimately decided there's no harm in it.
If anyone wants to upload MOD or MID rips, they are free to do so.
Just mark it in the readme. if the files aren't playable in standard players (most DOS era PC games aren't)
Also, please, no conversions. If the game uses XMI, submit XMI (and the sound banks). Do not convert to MID.
Same with MOD formats - please only original files.

DSF rips of Skies of Arcadia [Eternal Arcadia] by Taikocuya at 5:54 PM EST on November 7, 2018
Hello everyone,

the DSF rip of Skies of Arcadia by kingshriek was incomplete and a bit faulty so far (some missing tracks, instruments and drums).

So I made two new rips:
Skies of Arcadia [Eternal Arcadia] (2000-10-05)(Overworks)(Sega) (fully tagged and timed, includes Victory and Discovery Found themes)
Skies of Arcadia Trial Edition [Eternal Arcadia Kuuzokuban] (2000-03-06)(Overworks)(Sega) (fully tagged and timed, includes some never heard beta tracks)

Maybe anyone can upload this to http://dsf.joshw.info/s/?

@Taikocuya Thanks for the rip. I'm guessing this is a foobar DSF plugin problem, but on some tracks and other DSF sets as well, there's noticeable distortion.
by Taikocuya at 6:20 AM EST on November 8, 2018
Yeah, I noticed that, too. I've tried different settings, but no matter what, the DSF plugin in foobar2000 plays some tracks incorrectly. That's a pity, because it almost comes close to the originals in terms of sound.

Neill Corlett's original DSF or the aoDSF plugin in Winamp do not have these errors, but the sound is not as good as in foobar2000. I also think it's a problem in the DSF plugin in foobar2000. :-(

@Knurek: So should we all use APE for any redbook audio rips?

@datschge: Does it even matter as long as it's lossless?
Any format that handles RIFF chunks should be okay to use.

@Knurek: I don't know if it matters, that's why I'm asking. :) I just recall the previous discussion about lossless formats here, ensuring FLAC to contain RIFF chunks being hard for uninformed as by default it doesn't include them without setting an option. I don't remember if APE always includes them, it's comparably hard to get encoders for outside of Windows.

AFAIK, APE only includes them when using the Windows frontend.
