Huh interesting. I think that I have that same exact rip. I can tell because of the drive that was used, offset correction, lack of Null Samples in CRC, and lack of Test & Copy. Did you happen to get this from Elysion by any chance? :) There's an EAC lossless rip of a Zelda album on that site and the log file has the same exact settings; the same exact person ripped the album.

Yeah, it has been seemingly difficult, I'll have to get my computer in order one of these days so that everything will run more smoothly. Until then....
If the album is still being printed, I'll see if I can buy it, otherwise, I might be able to get if from someone at VGMdb. Thanks for trying to get it to me anyway. :)

There are a variety of file hosting sites used here. I guess MegaUpload should work but might also want to try FileFront, FileFactory, or MediaFire.

Cool, I'm glad you like it. Thanks mainly goes to the person that ripped this soundtrack for me, however. Even though he had made a lossless rip for me in the past, he went through the trouble of redoing it according to my latest tutorial. :)
SmartOne wrote:

I am still very interested in that album. If you can give me some time, I'll try to find a program that someone linked me to, this person was actually one that was behind adding the "digital scratches" to CDs so that they can't be copied in the usual way, he linked me to a program that would bypass that and then the disc can be ripped with EAC. This was two years ago so I'll have to try to dig up the thread.
- by SmartOne at 11:12 PM EDT on March 15, 2009
- You wrote:
Do you know if you're able to rip it using the tutorial or is that now impossible because of the CD protection? There was a guy on FFShrine forums that was pretty much behind the incorporation of CD protection on some CDs, he linked me to a tool that would get around that but I don't know if the link is still around or if I'll even be able to find that thread.
In response, I wrote:
If you want me to burn the discs and rip them again, then yeah, I suppose I could. :P [You missed the joke and the tongue.] I got them from a torrent long ago. They have some log-ish information included. (They sound really good, so I'm happy.)
I don't have the discs.
Thus, the special program is unnecessary (though still interesting.)

- I still can't find the XMAs for Sonic'06 :(
I anyone knows where they are that would be great
- by Mouser X at 8:51 PM EDT on March 28, 2009
- What would you do with the XMA files? There's currently no known method to play them, except on the original X360 hardware. It's why you can't find them. If a set is 600 MB (I have no clue how large the Sonic '06 files are), and no one can play the files (and the people who are even remotely capable of decoding the files already have them), then what's the point of distributing it? It's taking up space and bandwidth, for something that no one can use.
And no, I haven't seen the files anywhere, and I don't expect to until XMA is decoded successfully.
If you're still wanting the files, what do you plan on doing with them? Like I said, there's no way to listen to them. It may be possible to insert them into some X360, thereby playing them on the X360 hardware, but as far as I know, you can't do that (obviously, I don't know if you can or not. I doubt you can, but I don't that. I don't pay attention to X360 stuff). If this is your goal (play the XMA on the original hardware), then perhaps they might be useful to you. If you wanted to play them on your PC (or any other device for that matter), then there's no point in getting the files at this time.
So, what purpose did you want the XMA files for? You can't listen to them yet. Be patient, they'll be available when XMA is successfully decoded. Mouser X over and out.

I'm probably not interested, but I thought it'd be useful to know if there were any differences. Thanks for the heads up though. Mouser X over and out.
- by CyberSpark at 4:19 AM EDT on April 29, 2009
- Here's what I understand: The music that's extracted from the game disc is already compressed audio, Nintendo usually like to keep it at 33khz and something like 8-bit, I forget exactly.
The music files put onto the an actual soundtrack, however, are usually the uncompressed 48khz at 16-bit. Now, as you know, FLAC is lossless and retains the quality of the source material, therefore, you're probably getting a higher quality sound out of the OST then you would out of an audio extraction from the game.
I'll tell ya this, I have the Super Mario World OST in FLAC and it sounds noticeably better, in my opinion, then the same music extracted form the game. :)

- by hcs at 5:28 AM EDT on April 29, 2009
- Nintendo standard: 32khz and 4-bit ADPCM.
And CD Audio is 44.1khz 16-bit PCM.
I think what Mouser was asking was if the music itself is different (e.g. extra/unreleased tracks, arrangements, stuff that wasn't streamed).

- Your welcome :) No worries.. I have ripped alot of lossless stuff there but my drive has no offset code as far as I have searched so don't use it when making flac rips..Mines a LG DVD RAM GH-20NS15 drive. When i check on those websites that talk about offsets in EAC I dont any for mine..
But yeah for me as long as its real lossless and no fake bs then its good with or without logs / cues etc.. :)
- by SmartOne at 11:30 PM EDT on April 29, 2009

I trust UG, PS2PTT and many other sites :P I love flac .. :) I know it takes a twisted person to do such a thing.. he he
- by CyberSpark at 2:37 AM EDT on April 30, 2009
- Sup guys.
I might be able to explain the reasons why LOGs and CUEs are generated in the first place and why Read offset correction is so important.
First let's start with Read offset correction. Except for a small minority of drives, most all drives have an offset, whether it be minus a few sample (milliseconds) or plus a few samples. If you have a drive with an offset and you want to rip an exact 1:1 copy of an audio CD, this offset needs to be corrected, otherwise, the drive will start reading before or after the actual start point of the disc.
The CUE sheet basically contains the layout of the CD, because audio CDs are just 1 single track and the CUE sheet contains the information of the exact start and stop points which make up the individual tracks.
The log file contains information about the ripping process, what settings were applied, what drive was used, .ect. Although not absolutely required, it's recommended because it can be used to verify a rip and inform the viewer of any errors.
Hey marcusss, have you ever tried configuring your drive to to use the AccurateRip service via EAC? If you put in Key Discs while EAC is open, a window will appear from AccurateRip and attempt to automatically configure your drive's Read offset correction. Even though the exact model name of your drive isn't in the database, it's usually safe to assume that drives of that same model also apply the same Read offset correction. Mine isn't exact listed either, however, EAC, through AccurateRip, was able to configure it. :)
Anyway, just some food for thought.

http://www.myspace.com/HyllianMusic
It sucks. It's scratchy, as if they merely upsampled the in-game audio and released it as MP3s. Cutscenes also contain voices.
The audio files used by the game sound much better.

Hm, that may not work too well if the CD is not burned with Write offset correction.
marcusss, I'm going to make an assumption here and say that the proper Read offset correction for your drive is +102. The reason for my saying this is based on the fact that most manufactures try to keep the same offset for a particular model, and according to the AccurateRip website, all of the models that are similar to yours have the same offset correction of +102. Image
Setting up with Key Discs (should use factory-labeled CDs) may confirm this or contradict it, but if you are able to find out for sure what the proper Read offset correction for your drive is, I can help you set EAC to make use of AccurateRip without the need for Key Discs.

It should play fine, but will have different CRC then a proper rip, so you can't easily check for errors in the extraction.

I wonder how Final Fantasy VI and old game soundtracks in general were recorded. If you listen to the OST, the only difference between it and the SPC set (in mudlord's new MGME) is slightly more bass and possibly some analogue recording hiss when playing at high volumes for the OST.
I wonder how Nobuo Uematsu produced the music. Synth? He probably tosses his compositions at some other people who convert it into game format. I wonder what Uematsu's originals are like (he had to have heard his work beforehand somehow.)

Also, you'll be happy to hear I have one of your requests, SONIC ADVENTURE 2 ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK multi-dimensional C#_MJCG-80075. I imported this one a while back from gamemusic.com, so you don't have to worry about it being a bootleg; as I own the actual original discs.

Also, for future reference, if you're going to post multiple links, it would be greatly appreciated if you were to post them as links (see the "Tags:" section next to the "Message" field above the MEGA MAN picture). Just pointing out the availability of the feature. Mouser X over and out.

- No, you don't need an account for uploading; I just wanted to organize my uploads and provide folder links instead.
That's a good idea about uploading zips, etc., unfortunately I just don't have the time or patience to wait for it to slowly upload one big file and then break at 99%. I'm uploading on and off, working on other stuff at the same time.
I'll tag the links next time, sorry about that.

- Hi gamerjet, Mouser X and Omochao.
gamerjet, you might want to hold up on uploading that Sonic soundtrack, I've already found someone that will do this for me and make a proper EAC lossless rip. On the other hand, if you already plan to rip the CDs using Exact Audio Copy, I can link you to my tutorial for setting the program up properly, it probably will take about 15 or 20 minutes to go through but it's a one time setup.
Mouser X, MegaUpload allows up to 500MBs per file for FREE users; so yes, you might be able to get away with archiving a single disc and uploading it there. :)
Omochao, thanks for the link but I'm looking mainly for EAC lossless rips of these albums; so unless someone has the physical copies and is able to setup the EAC program, there's no other way to get bit-identical copies of these discs. Thanks anyway.
- by gamerjet at 2:19 AM EDT on June 19, 2009
- I just used winamp to rip 'em, but I'll be happy to help you get an EAC lossless rip if you want. I don't have exact audio copy atm, but I can get it if you want me to create an EAC lossless rip for you.
- by CyberSpark at 2:32 AM EDT on June 19, 2009
- Hmm, well, today is another one of those days where I'm going to have a to make a decision. lol. You see, I have been requesting this album from quite a few people over a long period of time. Earlier today, one of those persons had read my request and said that they would make an EAC lossless rip, and now, within the same day, you too are willing to make a rip of this album. :P
The only difference I can think of is the drive that's going to be used to make the rip and determining which one, yours or this other person's, will retrieve the most information from the disc. Hmm, decisions decisions....
If you still want to setup the program and make your own lossless rip, I'd be more then happy to show you how to do that. You can find the info for setting up the program, along will all of the download links, here: EAC guide
By the way, I'm sorry that I wasn't more specific in my requests for EAC lossless. I see that you edited one of your posts with a download link for the MP3s. Sorry.

- by CyberSpark at 2:40 AM EDT on June 19, 2009
- Ah, maybe. :) Well, I haven't had the need to upload anything over 500MBs in awhile and the last time that I used it, 500MBs was the limit. Well, that's good to hear.
You know something, MU used to delete links to VGM pretty fast before the upgrade, but now it's different. I've seen links that are still up from months ago. I hope that it continues like this. :)

I have too been wanting this for ages! =)

- I'd wager that
"Samsung 48X CD-R/RW SW-252S (Internal)"
would be the best drive for ripping, as laptop/external drives in my experience have lower build quality. But I might be wrong.
Also, as spellmaker said, please share the link when it gets ripped.

- Hi all.
CyberSpark, whatever is the outcome of this, whether you ask gamerjet or your friend to do the EAC (FLAC) lossless rip - when someone has the FLACs or otherwise of the Sonic Adventure 2 (Battle) Soundtrack please may you post a link with them? =)
Sure, no problem. If gamerjet makes the rip then (s)he'll mostly post it here anyway, otherwise, if this other person rips the CDs for me, I will re-upload as I do not like to post links if they weren't publicly posted by the user.
I'd wager that
"Samsung 48X CD-R/RW SW-252S (Internal)"
would be the best drive for ripping, as laptop/external drives in my experience have lower build quality. But I might be wrong.
Maybe maybe. Hey gamerjet, there's one thing that I would like you to test with this drive, if you're willing. I want to see if your Samsung 48X CD-R/RW SW-252S (Internal) is capable of retrieving the ISRC codes from the disc and store them in the CUE sheet. Here's how to test for it:
Open the Exact Audio Copy program and, in the Menu bar, navigate to: EAC -> EAC Options -> Tools [tab].
"(1) Enable "Retrieve UPC/ISRC codes in CUE sheet generation" and press the OK button which will bring you to the main window.
(2) Insert a factory-labeled audio CD into the drive and navigate to: Action -> Create CUE Sheet -> Multiple WAV Files With Gaps (Noncompliant) and save it to the desktop.
(3) Right-click on the CUE sheet and 'open with' Notepad.
(4) The ISRC codes should contain a mix of letters and numbers, if there are symbols of any kind (example: @ or &) then your drive most likely does not support this feature and it should be left disabled. Sometimes the ISRC codes will generate only 0s, and in this case you should test with a different CD."
Tell me if this works. :) Thanks.
- by Elven Spellmaker at 8:54 PM EDT on June 19, 2009
- Thanks CyberSpark. =)
Also why do you want ISRC codes?
What are they used for?
- by CyberSpark at 9:03 PM EDT on June 19, 2009
- Not much. :) If anything, they may be able to tell you the origin of the disc. Knowing that that this is an official copy of the disc from Japan, the ISRC codes should begin with "JPN" followed by some numbers. The main reason why this feature is recommend is simply because it's part of the original disc, therefore, it should be extracted if possible.

Interesting. It seems that the drive isn't reading the codes quite right. The results aren't exact consistent, as show here and in many other places throughout the CUE sheet:

You can kind of see where the adjustments needs to be made because each track has it's own unique code, therefore, there shouldn't be a double ISRC JPD600100387, it should be ISRC JPD600100387, ISRC JPD600100388, ISRC JPD600100389
Anyway, as I said before, it's not the most important information, it's just information that's part of the original CD though. :)

- Good catch, I didn't even notice that!
What caused that to happened though?
Did I misconfig EAC or did my drive just fail to read it correctly?
- by CyberSpark at 3:49 AM EDT on June 20, 2009
- It's probably the drive itself. You might try it again and see if the results change. Unfortunately, there's no real way to determine if a code is correct unless the label posts it for whatever reason, and they don't. All that I can tell, based on what I've read about ISRC codes, is that they're never to be the same within a CD, each recording code is unique.
You might be able to try this with the BenQ drive as well and see if it gives you a different result. Thanks again for running these tests. If it becomes tiresome then don't worry about it.
- Testing Results of drives by gamerjet at 5:29 AM EDT on June 20, 2009
- I got the same results with the Samsung 48X CD-R/RW SW-252S (Internal). It doubled the same ISRC codes.
The HP SuperMulti 40X DVD Writer 840y with Double Layer Support (USB External) couldn't retrieve the ISRC codes.
Is it possible that my disc might actually have double ISRC codes on those certain tracks? (Probably dumb question, but I figured I would offer it up anyways! :)
I tried the 2nd cd (DARK side) and interestingly, the ISRC codes are doubled at the same positions.
Then I tried my Namco Classic Collection Digigroove Techno Maniax CD and look at the following...

The ISRC codes are completely out of sequence!
Track #1: ISRC JPPC09717451
Track #2: ISRC JPPC09717449
etc.
Could their be some kind of hidden ISRC code protection or blocker? Like a securom or starforce protection? Possibly preventing the correct retrieval of data? (I'm probably thinking too deep here, but I'm just throwing anything out there that would seem reasonably possible, at least to me anyways!)
EDIT: Maybe my drive does not support ISRC code?
Maybe EAC was wrong? On a side note, EAC crashed during a repeat test. Not really important, but I figured I shared anyways because it locked my drive for like a mintue after the crash and I was like ****! LOL

- You know what, don't worry about the ISRC codes for now, I will look into the matter a little more later today. You can use the Samsung 48X CD-R/RW SW-252S to rip the CDs and leave the option for retrieving ISRC code enabled.
If anything, I can request that the other person preform this same test with their drive and see if the results are any different. If they are any more consistent, they can just be swapped out. Since other persons are looking forward to you ripping an EAC lossless version of this soundtrack, I don't want to hold that up for some piece of information that doesn't even affect the ripping quality and can be changed at some later time. Again, if you have any problems in setting up the program with the tutorial, I will gladly help you out. :)
By the way, there are two different methods for ripping the CD, as sighted in the tutorial. Both are just as accurate but the main difference is the files that are generated. My preferred method is ripping the soundtrack as a single WAV (FLAC) file with CUE sheet and log file, these files will work very easily in foobar2000, Winamp, and other media players that support the CUE sheet. The other method, ripping the CDs into multiple WAV (FLAC) files with CUE sheet and log file, is also good, especially if you have a portable player that supports FLAC files, you'll have less of a hassle in moving those files over to the player. So basically, you can't go wrong with either method. If you were to load the CUE sheet from a single WAV rip or a Multi-WAV rip, both will be exactly the same and burn exactly the same. :) By the way, you can still separate the Single WAV file into multiple WAV files even after you've ripped the CD. It's a few steps but it's very simple to do through the EAC program.
Anyway, sorry about the wall of words. :p

As of this writing, I'm in the process of uploading to Mega upload. I've archived everything into 2 7zip files, one for each disc and files. I've tested the 7zips and they have no detected errors and should extract just fine.
Hopefully the uploads will go smoothly, ETR 8 hrs.
I've included cue's, log's, md5's, sfv's, m3u's.
I'll post links asap, as I'll probably be asleep when it finally finishes. :)

Are you planning on supporting tags hcs, all other stream formats I know except WAV do. =/
And its really annoying...
Also does anyone know why -GUN- Mobile (Boss) is a WAV file and not a FLAC on the SA2B CD Rip?

- Actually, WAV does support tagging, it's just that few programs support it.
I'm really not too keen on the idea of supporting tags, especially given that there are no tags to support.
And when you say "all other stream formats", what do you mean? I can name over 100 stream formats that don't support tagging, how many can you name that do?

Erm not many, but as I sorta implied its the only the formats I use that I know.
MP3
MP3-WAV (WAV headed MP3, useful for Warcraft III)
M4A
MP4
XSF (USF, PSF) [Hmm, SSF and 2SF arn't streamed are they as you can mute channels in Winamp... Then again are any of them streamed?)
FLAC
Two I don't use but have tag support: OGG, AAC
If there are anymore they have escaped my mind currently.
WAV supports tags, really?
Also hcs, how are tags stored?
Are they stored inside the file itself, if so how do the files not increase in size when one tags them?
Tag support would be really nice though, even if it was only for a title. =)

- Tags are just data stuck onto the beginning or the end of the file, and unless the format has a buffer built in for them, they _do_ increase the file size...
