Chaotix is particularly nasty as all the code is loaded into memory... Yeesh.
EDIT: I read a bit into the 32X memory stuff. From what I know, ROM code is switched about in memory located at 0x880000 in 68000 memory. What I also think is that the 68000 has to be around in order to update the PWM on the 32X, so...

- This isn't directly DSF related, but Sega of Japan recently updated their official Dreamcast site with a banner that says "Do you still own a Dreamcast?" and a new page up where you can register your Dreamcast console. I heard rumor that they also recently filed for some type of Dreamcast-related patent. I wonder if they are planning a comeback.

- At this point, I am not sure what is going on. Just to be safe, you probably want to ignore it for now. The problem is that the site is not hosted on any of Sega's servers, and confirmation E-mails are not sent out from Sega address. Add this to the fact that the site has intermittently been a general advertisement page over the past few years, and it seems a little sketchy. The weird thing is that Sega still has the domain registered until June 2008, but as I said before, I am not sure what is going on...

- As strange as it is, how could it be bad re-registering your Dreamcast?
- by marioman at 3:48 PM EDT on March 10, 2008
- I don't know what someone could do with a DC registration number, but you have to use a valid E-mail address to register. Provided that the site has been hijacked, that could put you on the receiving end of a load of spam. Again, I am not sure if it is fake or not, but something is a little fishy.
Sega really needs to make an official comment about the validity of the site. There is too much room for doubt.
--EDIT--
*Turns off AdBlock* Oh, I just realized something. Why would there be ads by Google on a site that is maintained by Sega? Most probably fake. Sorry I even posted the link.

- do you ever do anything but post requests and say thanks over and over? why not actually make yourself useful and tag some sets or something.
- by nensondubois at 7:20 PM EDT on March 10, 2008
- mamaluigi has a point.
- by Mouser X at 7:41 PM EDT on March 10, 2008
- I disagree. Mostly because, based on the join date of mamluigi, he is not familiar with marioman. Marioman has been on here quite a bit longer, and has been a great asset to the forums. However, as of late, there hasn't been anything "major" going on for marioman to contribute. He does provide very useful information when such information is available though. Specifically, updates of various plugins. He also occasionally provides information on new sets ripped (whether they be NSF, DSF, SPC, or whatever). I think mamaluigi is reading far too much into marioman's post. Instead of seeing "Hey! Where's my music!?" (as that seems to be what he's reading), I see it more as "Since DSF ripping is now possible, has anyone looked at Sonic Shuffle? It's a great game that could have good music. If there's a difficulty in ripping it, could you please tell us what that difficulty is?"
In other words, I really really really doubt marioman is such a bad guy here. Mamaluigi doesn't have a point, and isn't paying attention to the posts on the forum here, if he thinks that's all marioman is doing. The same can be said for nensondubois, based on his agreeing with mamaluigi.
While I will whole-heartedly say that a post count could mean nothing, please check the post count of marioman. I can *garantee* that he didn't get that post count by asking for rips all the time. IMO, he's earned those numbers fair and square (and beat out me even!). And in regards to post counts, please keep in mind that the next closest person to marioman (after me) is JoshW at 300 somthing. Please rethink your "point" here. Mouser X over and out.

@mamaluigi: I don't have as much free time as I did when I first joined the forums. I still have sets that I want to tag/time, but I am good if I can make a hit 'n' run post here and there. (Although that I have had a little more posting time recently.) As for your claim that I "say thanks over and over", don't you think that it is appropriate thank people when they do something that you appreciate? Wouldn't you want people to show appreciation if you spent the time to rip a music set?

- While I am thinking about it, I guess I will ask - what format is the music for Sonic World (Sonic Jam) in? It sounds sequenced, but since there is not much music in Sonic World, I wouldn't be surprised if it is redbook.
Thanks.
- Could it be... by F3582 at 11:29 AM EDT on March 18, 2008
- Could it be that the soundtracks of Star Ocean 3 and all those other PS2 games made by Tri-Ace are not sequenced after all?
I happened to experience the following: I accidentally opened the tray when plaing Radiata Stories. The game displayed an icon telling me that the tray was open, but the music kept playing for some ten seconds. And then it stopped. I always wondered how they could have managed to get such high quality music out of the PS2 with a sequencing driver. Who knows, maybe the game uses an own audio streaming format, instead.

- by Mouser X at 1:00 AM EDT on March 19, 2008
- To quote a post from Davironica in the PSF_Rippers group (posted Aug. 3rd 2006):
"I'd like to make a note for Silmeria, since the sequenced format use the same driver as radiata stories and star ocean till the end of time, it will be great if someone can work with the driver since i already made some kind of small utilies to extract the required files, i can give the tool only to someone that will try to work on the driver, since without the driver you will only get junk files without anyway to play it."
It sounds to me like Davironica has already looked into it, and they're sequenced. There's only 2 people (that I'm aware of) that have been able to do custom driver PS2 rips. Neill and Zoopd. Unfortunately, it looks like it's pretty unlikely that they'll get ripped. However, if someone is able to extract the data, and give it a look, maybe it's streamed after all? The PS2 driver might be playing streamed music after all.
Anyway, I figured this was pertinent information. I don't know how useful it is though. Mouser X over and out.
- by unknownfile at 7:38 PM EDT on March 19, 2008

Regarding Winamp plugins, I'm trying to get MSXplug to support the Moonsound (OPL3/OPL4) sound expansion chip but the code I've found so far requires a timer to be present (MSXplug renders sound every 1/60th of a second). That, and I suck at Z80 assembly hacking.

The VGMs do indeed sound nice, but the plugin's not really usable as of now (doesn't parse tags/times at all, doesn't change the song on songend). Still, something to look out for. :)

- Seeking for VGMs does not seem to work for me. Another thing that I would like to point out is that subsong selection is so much easier for the user if they can use Winamp's next track and previous track buttons instead being forced to use buttons in an external window.
Can't wait for the next update.
- by Mouser X at 12:55 PM EDT on May 15, 2008
- If you make it use the next/previous buttons of Winamp, please make it optional. I actually prefer having a separate window to select the next/previous subsong. I've been using NotsoFatso for years, and I'm happy with its method of track changing. However, for those who don't like a separate window, then use the previous/next buttons. Personally, the more it allows you to use it the way you want (options), the better. Mouser X over and out.

- FC audio path by unknownfile at 12:40 PM EDT on June 6, 2008
- I'm thinking about adding an audio pathway to Notsofatso (if it hasn't been implemented already).
Essentially, real hardware typically does this:
(AUDIO OUT) -> (CART AUDIO) -> (AUDIO IN)
So, the APU channels are mixed first, and are sent on to the cartridge to receive external audio (on cartridges without external audio, the two audio pins are bridged and nothing is modified).
The audio pathways are quite often mixed with resistors (about 11k ohms, if I remember correctly), so the sound gets softer along the pathway. So, the pathway will end up like this
(AUDIO OUT) -> (CART AUDIO + 11K OHMS) -> (AUDIO IN)
Repeat step 2 for as many expansion chips as possible.

I am not going to work on the toneset until I can get the attack tables right.
The attack table is calculated this way:
AR_ADJUST_TABLE[i] = (e_uint16) ((double) (1<<EG_BITS)-1 - ((1<<EG_BITS)-1)*log(i)/log(121));
Typically the log(121) is log(127) but it gives a somewhat better attack rate on some tracks. Still not good enough though. I'm going to try the YM2413.c values and see what I get.

- "When I download your new installer and run it, I get this error message:
Installer integrity check has failed. Common causes include incomplete download and damaged media. Contact the installer's author to obtain a new copy.
I've tried downloading several times and this is always the result."
Strange, well it should be fixed up now and:

there's a decent mirror for my plugin.

- Ugh! I just noticed that the newest version of NEZPlug plays the Donkey Kong GBS at 2X speed, and doesn't play Mario Golf at all. Is this a GBS problem or a player problem? (I would assume player, but I don't know if there is an error in the GBS files that the old versions hacked into working)
If it is a player problem, does anyone have some older versions? I just deleted my extensive library of old versions, and all of the newer ones that I kept are broken.
Thanks.

- Mario Golf plays fine here (NEZPlug v 0.9.4.8 +2+16.9)

- Aha. The GBS files that I had were obviously old. (Thought that I got them from Hoot, but I guess I was wrong.) Thanks for pointing that out Knurek.
By the way, the direct links to the Last Action Hero, Le Visiteurs, Link's Awakening (German version), Logical, Lufia, Magination, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, Mega Man I, Mega Man Xtreme, Mega Man Xtreme 2, Metal Walker, Micro Machines V3, Micro Maniacs, Mission Impossible, Mobile Golf, Momotaro Dengeki 2, and Monster Rancher Explorer JP GBS files on the GBS archive page are broken. I just checked the files whose names started with L and M, I may be able to look for more dead links if you would like.

- I'm doing a major rewrite to the GBS site, so pointing out any dead links now is pretty pointless (as I'm sure I'll add a great deal of them during the process).
If you could wait for a while, till I update the site again. Shouldn't take much more than a month.

- In case the SNSF project ever picks back up, here's some info:
Check for writes to 00420D in the Debugger version of SNES9X. This register controls the refresh rate of the CPU, and failing to deal with it can make the music choppy. You should write to it with A9??8F0D4200.
I've seen similar issues arise when dealing with Gameboy vs Gameboy Color settings, because GBC runs twice as fast as a regular GB. Identical music code will either sound choppy, if it's supposed to be GBC, or sharper, if it was originally GB(Alfred Chicken vs. Alfred's Adventure).
The SNSF Winamp plugin plays a semi-fixed Wario's Woods too fast still, and I hear blips of SFX in the SNSF emulator, but it's less choppy.
