MS Dos Classic midis player? by Koto at 10:47 AM EDT on March 23, 2011
Hi. I actually playin' some ms dos games in a nostalgic attack, and what happens when I play an old game? I want to rip his music!

I found in the msdos games files some "MODules" archives, which are some kind of midis used for the music games (For example, .MUS files in Simon the Sorcerer). I don't find any player that can play those tracks and if I find it (like a foo_midi plugin which I try yesterday), doesn't sound like the originals msdos tunes when I was a kid with his soundblaster card.

Definetly, there's some player that can play those files (Not DRO's or derivated) like the ones in retro games? (Pretty much like DOSBOX does).

Thanks like always

See ya
Is there some issue between the vgmstream plugin and Winamp 5.61? by TheUltimateKoopa at 7:55 PM EDT on March 26, 2011
For some reason, the vgmstream plugin doesn't appear in the list of input plugins, even though I have in_vgmstream.dll in the plugins folder. I have Winamp 5.61 which was released March 17th, and er whatever the latest vgmstream version was, released around March 23rd or something.

I managed to extract the audio files from the .000 files using Watto's Game Extractor. But I'm not exactly sure what kind of file they are, their extension or even the codec.

Here's one of the files.

MDK1 PC SNI file format by mudlord at 6:23 AM EDT on March 30, 2011
Details:

struct head {
    DWORD magic; //file magic?
    unsigned char fname[12]; //archive
    DWORD magic_sub8;
    DWORD fileznum; //number of files
} head;
struct filez{
unsigned char fname[16]; //filename
DWORD fileoff; // file offset
DWORD filesize; // filesize
};

Files stored in the game have no extensions. WAV files seem to have 4 bytes of appended data, which is easy to get rid of, at extraction time. Files also have no compression applied to them it seems.

Music is of atrocious quality. About 17khz, mono.

Changing configuration of vgmstream plugin in foobar? by cooljacker at 2:42 PM EDT on March 31, 2011
This can be a stupid question, but whatever. So, if I use vgmstream plugin for winamp, I can easily change settings through winamp interface, but foobar plugin isn't configurable. I tried editing vgmstream cfg file in appdata/roaming with hex editor and also with win default notepad, (i only change loop value and nothing else because that's all I need) and when I try to start foobar after modification, it says the cfg file is corrupted and takes me back to default values.
2sf ripping simple question by neo_chip at 7:01 PM EDT on April 1, 2011
What is the preffered volume to set for the 2sf's to sound like a normal stream. I know ds games sequences have different volume levels but what should be the standard setting?

I was thinking of 127 as most music is played at this setting.

Accurate GBS to WAV by andrew_berge at 12:13 PM EDT on April 4, 2011
Okay, i'll start by saying hello, i'm andrew_berge, i run Windows 7 64-bit, and this is my first post here, so please forgive me if i do something wrong (I couldn't find a rules thread, is there one?).
I stumbled upon this site by chance, and i think you could help me with my endeavour.

I'm currently trying to rip the audio from a GBS file, Link's Awakening DX, to wav files.
I've tried a few standalone applications and plugins, such as Audio Overload (It froze when trying to record anything but the first track) and a dll for Winamp (it muted a track in Tal Tal Heights, i'm not sure what it might have changed in all the others).

I'm going to try booting into Ubuntu and see if Audio Overload performs any better, so i'll see how that goes.

But i was hoping you guys might be able to help me out if that doesn't work. Any tips?
USF sample dumper- in_usfdump by coda at 5:13 PM EDT on April 4, 2011
hi guys, i really wanted some goemon 64 samples so today i downloaded the source to 64th note and made this thing:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2494245/in_usfdump.zip

it "rips" samples from usfs while playing them in the dumbest way possible- a hook in the RESAMPLE() function of audio ucode1 that saves the output to a wav file.
sounds like this:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2494245/yamatolead.wav.mp3

of course this gets around the issues srip has with certain uncooperative games.

files are dumped into c:/usfdump/, named by their address (i think). better clear it out after ripping each song or everything will get mixed up.

you need to enable the Audio HLE option to dump.

Mario Party 4-5-6-7 Gamecube by kalemvar at 8:39 PM EDT on April 4, 2011
Hello everyone, this is my first post here. So I hope I'm making this the right way :-)

I'm looking for Mario Party 4-5-6-7 (Gamecube) gamerip on there original form (not mp3). I've found few website for Mario Party 1-3-4 (N64) with (.USF) files that are relatively easy to convert to .wav. Gamecube rip seems to be harder to produce if we compare with (SNES, N64). I've made a few search here and the format for gamecube is .adp. I know that user : bxaimc I made torrents for these Mario Party in the past but can't find the links.

Thanks in advance.

Well, got tired of piggybacking on the XSF thread.

VGMToolbox updated, grab it at Sourceforge.

Nothing.

- Added CRI USM format demultiplexing. These have been seen in Crysis 2 and Ultimate Spider Man.
- Added Microsoft XMV demultiplexing. These are found on Xbox games. This type can supposedly have raw PCM audio, but I haven't seen it yet; and consequently cannot automatically add the GENH headers for output. Video is currently unplayable.
- Currently supported demux formats: DVD Video (VOB), MPEG1, MPEG2, PAM (PS3), PMF (PSP), PSS (PS2), SFD, USM, XMV (XBOX)

Thanks to hcs for his usm_deinterleave source.

Is there a way to compress the N64 ROMs to the "romc" format? by PabloACZ at 8:23 AM EDT on April 13, 2011
AFAIK, the romc compressor made by jurai back in 2009 has a lot of bugs and doesn't work correctly, so it is not an option. Is there any other alternative to that program that really does work?

The romchu program from HCS does a pretty good work at decompressing the romc files from the N64 VC releases, but it lacks the ability of compressing existing files to that format.
Blood Omen 2 Samples by OrangeC at 7:36 PM EDT on April 13, 2011
I have here two samples from blood omen 2 one file from ps2 and the other xbox.

I assumed the ps2's interleave is 4000, its the closest i could get but not quite right.

The xbox sample the start stream should be at 800 like the other ones but won't decode with alpah's xbox adpcm script or genh.

any help on decoding these formats will be appreciated. :)

Problem with *.usm-files by Yar at 6:10 AM EDT on April 14, 2011
Hello,

I have a (huge) problem with *.usm-files.
My problem is that I try to convert *.usm-files into a playable format/file-system. But it seems there is no converter or something, so I want to give a try to usm_deinterleave.

My questions are:
- How I use usm_deinterleave? I clicked the exe, but nothing happened. Do I need winamp and vgmstream for this. What is the utf_tab suite exactly? Is it a plugin-package or stand-alone-software?

In case of a plugin: How do I install it? What do I need exactly? And how do I run it?

Unfortuneately I didnt found any instruction manuals or something yet. Any help is much appreciated : )

BattleTanx: Global Assault (PSX) unrippable? by RukarioGyiyg996 at 8:42 PM EDT on April 17, 2011
So I decided to try this myself.

Except for the fact when I try to rip any of the STR's or XA files from the CDASSERT dir, it generates a file with 0 bytes everywhere.

Am I doing something wrong or is my image corrupt somehow? It loads in ePSXe just fine and all the XA music plays, but if I try to export any of it with CDMage, it generates a file with 74.7 MB worth of 0's...

Also it strangely appends a RIFF CDXAFmt header, but after that header comes all the 0's.

Maybe this is why there isn't a rip...
Mega Man Maverick Hunter X by admiralpete at 10:45 PM EDT on April 19, 2011
I had previously read somewhere on this forum (I think) that you could extract the at3 files from Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X and Mega Man: Powered Up. I read something about quickbms, but I'm having a hard time using it. I also saw the post on this forum that described how to play/convert the files. Could someone point me in the right direction as to how to extract those at3 files on my PC, as well as put in the proper loop points?
Majora's Mask USF by Elven Spellmaker at 2:13 PM EDT on April 24, 2011
Hey all,

Does anyone happen to have a complete Majora's Mask USF set?

The one I have is missing the variations.

I'm not sure if every variation was ever ripped, but for someone like me, I'd like all variations for completeness if they have been ripped.

Things like all the songs not just played on Ocarina, but on the Pipes, Drums and Guitar too. And the Ikana King singing Elegy of Emptiness.

I have no idea how to rip USFs and so wouldn't even begin to be able to rip them myself. If someone has ripped them and could share I'd be very grateful.
Wipeout [PS1] PSX STR by bcass at 1:44 PM EDT on April 25, 2011
I'm trying to rip the audio from the intro for the PS1 game Wipeout (European release, as the US version intro is edited). Managed to get the ISO from here:

http://www.emuparadise.org/Sony_Playstation_ISOs/WipEout_%28E%29_%28v1.1%29/52531

I extracted the STR file for the intro movie from the bin using WinISO. I've uploaded the STR file here:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4E95D6CR

Of all the STR tools, the only one that I could get to play it is PsxTulz 0.03b. According to that app, the file is PSX STR 18900Hz 16-bit Mono. However, it plays very slowly. Can anyone help with this? VGMToolbox (CD-XA Extractor) reports "Extract XA data complete" if I drag the file into it, but there is no output file.

About PSX Doom by RukarioGyiyg996 at 12:21 AM EDT on April 27, 2011
So I wanted to attempt to make a full rip of PSX Doom.

However, in addition to the CD-AUDIO streams that have already been ripped. There's dynamic sequenced music present in a dir called "MUSIC"

The dir contains .LCD and .WMD files

A listing reports:
DOOMSFX.LCD
DOOMSND.WMD
MUSLEV1.LCD
MUSLEV10.LCD
MUSLEV11.LCD
MUSLEV12.LCD
MUSLEV13.LCD
MUSLEV14.LCD
MUSLEV15.LCD
MUSLEV16.LCD
MUSLEV17.LCD
MUSLEV18.LCD
MUSLEV19.LCD
MUSLEV2.LCD
MUSLEV20.LCD
MUSLEV3.LCD
MUSLEV4.LCD
MUSLEV5.LCD
MUSLEV6.LCD
MUSLEV7.LCD
MUSLEV8.LCD
MUSLEV9.LCD

There's also three directories named SNDMAPS1, SNDMAPS2 and SNDMAPS3 respectively. Each of them contain .LCD files named after all the map's in PSX Doom.

I'm curious, what steps should I take into making PSF's out of these?
007 the World is not enough USF broken? by kbjansen at 6:12 PM EDT on April 29, 2011
hi!
First of all great work!
To rip all these sounds is amazing.

After searching the N64 Top Gear Hyper-Bike sounds (too bad that these soundtracks aren't in your list) I found your Project "64thNote".
Sensational!

I Downloaded 5 archives. One of these (007 world is not enough) doesn't play any sound.

Is that a known issue?
Or is there a workaround?

Would be nice when anybody answers

greetings

PS:
Hope there will be some time for ripping Top Gear Hyper-Bike...

Japanese Celestia VGM Project - Where is it now? by Mouser X at 7:39 PM EDT on May 12, 2011
For some reason, the file system on my MP3 player is no longer reliable (I have encountered probably around 50 files which no longer match their original source files/aren't accessible at all), so I'm attempting to rebuild the directory structure (and the files in those directories) of my MP3 player. While doing so, I discovered that one of the "albums" I have is incomplete. I can't find the originals anywhere on my hard drives, and when I Google for it, everything leads me back to the site they were originally hosted on, which is no longer online (it's from 2005).

The collection I'm looking for is the Japanese "Celestia Project". It was a large collaboration which resulted in lots of video game music remixes. Based on my directory structure, and some of the forums that talked about it, the original file names of the archives were "cele01_day1.zip" and "cele01_day2.zip". Can anyone help me find the original collections? I know I used to have them, and it's reasonably safe to assume I still do, but I can't find it anywhere. The one I'm looking for is, I think, in a directory (or archive?) called "saki-tdb" (based on my directory structure. However, all the files, and directories, were created on a system which didn't have support for Japanese characters, so some of the file names came out wrong, or needed to be altered to be extracted at all).

Anyway, if anyone can help me find these (the Celestia Project as a whole would be nice), I'd really appreciate it. Any suggestions on where else I should ask, in addition to here? Thanks in advance. Mouser X over.

VGMTrans N64? by Dutchie at 10:56 AM EDT on May 25, 2011
Hello, this is my first post on this forum.

So I have done many research on the N64 music, and always wanted to extract the sequences and soundbanks to use them in FL studio.

Now before people are going to send me to other forums, dont do it, cause if there was a forum post about this, I wouldn't have posted this message.

I KNOW not all N64 music is a sequence with the samples somewhere in the ROM image, and I dont really bother if thats thrue or not.

The only game i want to extract the music from is Mario Kart 64 and Super Smash Bros.

Now Mario Kart 64 is my main target. Mainly because I'am 100% sure it uses a sequence with samples. I don't know if Super Smash Bros. does this too, but as i said before, Mario kart 64 is the game i care about the most.

I have heard about VGMTrans wich works with N64 roms, But this is pretty impossible to find, if anyone can tell me where to get it or if anyone can send it me, I will give you something back.

I have hear about SRip, N64 soundtool and others, they worked with ripping Mario Kart 64 samples, but none of them could extract ANYTHING from Super Smash Bros.

So if someone could send me the VGMTrans compatible with N64 roms, I will be very happy if I could get Mario Kart 64's sequences as Midi's.
Thank you! by andrew_berge at 3:50 PM EDT on May 28, 2011
Hello, i just wanted to thank the members here for the help they gave me a while back for ripping GBS files to wav. Foobar did it very well and it was a lot easier than the other methods i had tried.

It was the soundtrack for Link's Awakening. Which is here, in case anyone wants it: goo.gl/RsKmO

So yeah, thank you all very much! :)

Firstly, inside the hrf files are rsd files. They're signed 16bit PCM files, little endian, 24000hz. They don't play with vgmstream as far as I can tell, my version may be a little outdated so I can't be entirely sure.

Here's an archive with one of the rsd files, and an mp3 version I quickly converted for reference: http://www.mediafire.com/?5jog0r26fgpzae5

And lastly, for those who simply "cannot be bothered" with the whole thing, here's an mp3 version of every file in the music archive. All named as per their original file names: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NRTQM7WS

My question is simple: can I get the propher MIDIs from the ds rom, or must I fix all the MIDIs manually? Maybe can I convert the .mini2sf files in some ways?
It's important... I hope it will take not too much time to do it.

Some examples: http://www.sendspace.com/file/f16icj
Any tips how to play these?

The header says it's a "VAWX" (doesn't look like a wav container). Maybe just the header is different, and the data is common?

VGMStream foobar plugin crash by bcass at 7:27 AM EDT on June 14, 2011
I've been having a regularly recuring crash when using the VGMStream plugin for foobar2000. I have the latest version of the plugin and the latest version of foobar installed.

Foobar crashes after around 5 minutes of playing any filetype (eg MP/FLAC/any of the stream types supported by VGMStream) if I have the VGMStream plugin installed. I have all the relevant support files in the foobar dir. Deleting the VGMStream plugin stops the problem. The error reported is as follows: "An unhandled win32 exception occured in foobar2000.exe[5120]".

Couldn't find a proper site for Josh so have posted this here. I tried older versions of VGMStream but kept getting the same error.
Mario kart double dash sound files by Dutchie at 1:14 PM EDT on June 15, 2011
Mario kart double dash' music is emulated with a sequence and samples.

i have ripped these files of the iso, and the file extensions are as followed:

the samples come as compressed .AW files
the sequences come in a compressed .ARC archive
and the streams come as .x.32.c4.ast files

the sequence are compressed to an ARC file and trust me, i tried every ARC extractor and none of them could get the file extracted

i tried the same for the AW files, no extractor could extract them

and the streams? i dont even know wath these are supposed to be, but i did not even bother to find an extractor for .x.32.c4.ast files

SO

the only thing i want is the samples ripped
[so i have the raw .WAV samples]
and i want the sequences converted to something so i can ATLEAST see the origional notes.

does someone know how this works?
or can someone help me?

Did anyone ever know what those "unknown" tunes from Mario Golf 64 are? by TheUltimateKoopa at 10:28 PM EDT on June 19, 2011
The ones that have question marks in the USF rip, i.e.
"All Complete Bonus Song?"
"Alternate Ending?"
"Hidden Course?"
"Hidden Intro/Results?"
"Hidden Intro/Results? 2"

I've only found one of them, which is the one which is tagged "Hidden Course?" -- this plays when you do a 4-player match and everyone chooses Yoshi. However, does anyone know where the other 4 are played?
Trouble playing a Silent Hill 2 stream rip by Pixel_Crusher at 4:19 AM EDT on June 20, 2011
Hi ya all! :D

So, I managed to scavenge a Silent Hill 2 stream rip from a Xbox streams torrent that used to be on Underground Gamer. My problem now is that most tracks don't play even with the latest vgmstream, as I keep getting this error in Winamp:

"Error creating DirectSound buffer. Error code: 80070057"

A similar thing occurred with Winamp's WaveOut plugin. Is there anyway to get around this problem or an audio output plugin that can solve this?

Blazblue Continuum Shift 2 Audio Rip by kenshiro at 12:19 PM EDT on June 22, 2011
Hi,

I would like to extract the audio files from Blazblue Continuum Shift 2 on PSP. The game contains an archive named bb.cvm in usdir. I suppose it's where the audio files are located (file size is 1,3 Go).

After checking the header, the cvm file was build with RFOS tool (ROFSROFSBLD Ver.1.53 2003-11-26).

I tried to open the archive with tmxplorer, isobuster, apache3... with no success, the format is not recognized.
I don't know if the file is encrypted and which extractor tool should I use. I know that for some game tools were created to extract specific archives, it was the case for Virtua Fighter 4 Evolutions which use a cvm file too.

Has Someone an idea how I can get into this archive and extract the audio files.

Thank you for your help.

vgmstream and Windows ME etc. [won't start playing] by DChronos at 7:47 PM EDT on June 23, 2011
Been awhile...

My current PC needs the board taken out for capacitor replacement. In light of this, I dug out and fixed up my old Windows ME computer, reinstalling a fresh install of ME, everything all went fine.

I can't remember what I needed these for, but I went and got the MS Visual C++ 2005 redistributable and .NET 2.0, cause if I remember right, one of those was needed for it... I'm sure C++ was needed for the 2sf player or something, I can't think of it.

But yeah... I'm trying to use an older copy of vgmstream on purpose, the same one I have running on my main computer, r709... since it works and only needs 2 of the extra dlls, and since this is Widnows ME, I want to have as little loaded with as much functionality as possible.

That reminds me of something below that I wonder about, if it got fixed...

Anyway, I put in_vgmstream.dll in the plugins folder and the 2 external dlls needed (livorbis and libmpg) into the Winamp folder. I have Winamp 5.32, same as this computer has. I open winamp, and the plugin loads.. it shows all the files it supports, and I can configure it just fine in the Input settings. Also, I can load files into winamp and it shows the right time they play for, and I can view the file info, which is correct.

However, when I hit play... nothing happens. Winamp sits there like it's trying to start playing, but the bar doesn't move. I can move the bar manually, but it just sits wherever I put it at. When I hit stop, it acts like I stopped playing, resetting to 0 and doing all it does when you stop playing a song.

I tried in_cube, the predecessor, to see if loading those files was too much for my computer or something, but it isn't... in_cube was playing fine, without any slowdown, even. So I know that my PC is perfectly capable of playing stream files, including infinitely looped ones. But vgmstream won't even play the same files I tested in in_cube's limited stream file type set.

My computer is using an 800Mhz PIII, and the minimum requirements are far under that.

So, what's up with vgmstream here? I figure you would make it able to work with older than XP windows, for those using like windows 98 or 2000 still (and ME if you're stuck with it)... and everything else the plugin does works.

Extra rambling:

I noticed that the PSF plugin didn't work when I moved it from my good machine, and found when I DL'd and used the installer, it extracted a plugin named in_psf9x... had me wonder about vgmstream. My only other thought is about the external dlls being in the winamp folder, and if that's different for an OS older than XP, or somehting... but then the plugin shouldn't load, if that was the case.

EDIT:

Oh, right, the thing I wondered if it got fixed was if going to "Play> File..." with the libg7221_decode.dll loaded in winamp crashed winamp anymore. Renaming the dll so it's not loaded makes it stop. That's partly why I didn't update vgmstream to any version using that 3rd dll.

Sonic Heroes/Sonic Colors | Multiple ADX in SFD issue by neo_chip at 9:55 PM EDT on June 25, 2011
Hi I'm trying to extract the ADX from cutscenes encoded in sofdec video codec (.sfd). However since the cutscenes have both japanese and english voice overs I can't successfully extract the english portion (which I need).

This is also a common problem in Sonic Colors which contains both Jap and English audio in the .sfd files.

I've used both demux_sfd (old program) and the new VGMToolbox option both they spit out only Japanese voiceovers. I'd like to get the english ADX. I'm assuming its not yet possible through your "Video Demultiplexer" in VGMToolbox as I receive the following error:

Error processing <H:\Video Game Music\Music - Wave\Sonic Heroes [Xbox][wave]\DVD\movie\E0000_XD.sfd>. Error received: An item with the same key has already been added.

So is there a way to get both or at least choose between english and japanese via VGMToolbox?

LSD: Dream Emulator PSF rip possible? by RukarioGyiyg996 at 5:52 PM EDT on July 2, 2011
I'm curious, since this game obviously uses sequences for music. Would it be theoretically possible to rip a PSF set of this? Or would it contain *WAY* too many MINIPSF's to count?

Haven't looked at the image with CDMage yet and hadn't payed much attention to the debugger but watching the audio channels freak out as it tries to mix the music and sound effects together is pretty amusing. This game really must push the PSX's sound chip to the limit since it tries to play so much audio at once.

EDIT: fixed a embarrassing typo.

I'd really appreciate the help. Trust me, I've googled and I can't find it.

de Blob: music works fine, flairs do not by Mr. Glidder at 1:03 PM EDT on July 18, 2011
So I have the .fsb files from de Blob. Extracting the background music with the command-line decoder works perfectly fine; however, trying to extract the flairs (the solo bits that pop in as you paint things) causes a "failed opening file" error. Not sure what the problem is.

I can use other programs to extract the flairs from the .fsb files, but because they don't have the required header information I can't get them to play, and even if I use Audacity's "Import Raw" function they coume out extremely distorted.

EDIT: Apparently the background music of de Blob 2 doesn't work either, even though the music ported from the first game can be extracted fine.

Can you set custom sample rates for USFs? by TheUltimateKoopa at 2:38 PM EDT on July 18, 2011
Like you can with SPCs? With SNESAmp, you can set SPCs to play anything up to 192000 Hz. Are you not able to do this with USFs? For example, does Banjo-Kazooie have to be 21998 Hz, or could is it possible to set it to play at maybe 48000 Hz?
Rune Factory 3 instruments help by cooljacker at 7:09 PM EDT on July 20, 2011
So I got 2sf files from joshw's mirror here and using unofficial release of 2sf decoder generously compiled by GANO (vio2sf - winamp plugin) which has the instruments viewer, so I can turn them off and isolate the one that's causing trouble. And the trouble is that almost every track has additional instrument (it's always just one) that makes noise (sound of water, I believe). I can find the instrument alright, but as soon as I close 2sf decoder instruments viewer, it activates instrument that makes noise and I can't turn it off every single time when I play a file. Is there something that can be done? Also note I know almost nothing about DS music and always used VGMtoolbox 'make 2sf' option from extracted sdat files, and it worked very well. This game is kind of problematic. I also ran make 2sf from my RF3 sdat and again 2sf files have that noise.

Fixing .wav files ripped from APB .pck file by Rapid99 at 5:05 PM EDT on July 24, 2011
Hello my friends!
Hopefully you can help me with this issue that has been plaguing me for a few weeks >.> I've asked around at a few places, and my questions when mostly ignored...

I'm trying to rip audio from the game APB. The audio was contained in .pck files, which I successfully ripped using NovaSoft. The audio files themselves are .wavs

The files cannot be played, however, and from what I understand they must be converted with ww2ogg.

My problem: When I try to convert the files with ww2ogg, it gives me a parse error. Here is my input for ww2ogg, and the resulting error.

ww2ogg SFX01.wav -o SFX01.ogg --full-setup
Input: SFX01.wav
Parse error: expected fmt, vorb, data chunks

I'm a bit stumped on what to do v.v It just gives me that parse error and then nothing happens. Every file (all 935 of them) does the same thing, which I found out when I tried to do a batch conversion of them all.

Any help at all is greatly appreciated :]
Gamerips are giving me a headache by Jules at 6:57 AM EDT on July 25, 2011
Alright, so this is basically a rant followed by the question "What am I doing wrong?", because it's highly unlikely that things are actually as bad as they seem to me because people would've gotten fed up with it long ago if they were.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. First of all, I'm not talking about ripping music from games that have streaming music. Thanks to vgmstream in general and test.exe specifically, I can't really think of anything to whine about here, a huge thank you to hcs at this point.

What I am talking about is ripping music from games that have either chipmusic or sampled music (GBS, 2SF, USF mostly).

Issues:

1. Everything is a plugin for winamp, foobar, etc. There are no command-line or even GUI tools that I know of that can convert a USF rip to a bunch of WAV, FLAC, whatever files. Is everyone really so low on disk space that they want to sacrifice all the advantages of conventional streaming formats (work with any player, including portable ones, easier to handle using existing tools, less CPU usage, faster seek times, etc.) for some extra disk space? As you might have guessed, I really like to have my stuff in streaming formats and if there were command-line convert tools that would really make the process of including stuff in my library a lot easier.

2. GBS specific stuff. It's hard enough to find a Gameboy emulator with decent sound synthesis (bgb is the best one I know of, and even it is not perfect), but tools to work with GBS rips? Forget it. NEZplug++ has really weird DC offset issues causing stuff to sound muddy in places, the fadeout time specification in m3u files is broken and will simply not work with anything more than 5 seconds and it does not have any bandlimiting. in_gep has bandlimiting and no DC offset issus, fadeout works fine, too, but it features lovely pops and clicks in some tracks instead.

3. 2SF specific stuff. The latest official build of vio2sf is horribly outdated. It also doesn't have any bandlimiting, but since the desmume project somehow has the source code of vio2sf in their repository, I figured why not just increase the sample rate and build the newest version to get rid of both issues. Turns out you need MSVC++ 6.0 to build the thing (WTF). I was able to build some parts of vio2sf using a newer compiler, using the latest (really old) official binaries for the stuff I couldn't build. Of course these parts don't work together all that well, it's a real mess.

I really don't know what's going on here. I can't imagine that I'm the only person that has run into these issuses so I can't help but wonder why nobody has taken some steps to resolve them yet. For the developer of a winamp plugin, it's really no big deal to ship a command-line convert tool together with the plugin. Then there are dozens of FOSS gameboy emulators out there, it can't possibly be that hard to take one of those and turn it into a working GBS player. I'm a software developer myself and would so do this if I only had enough time. And these are just the issues I've run into while ripping music from games I care about, I've never even touched PSF, GSF, etc. rips, but from what I've experienced with GBS, 2SF and USF I'm not sure I ever want to do that.

Of course, I'm thankful that there are tools like this at all, I'm just wondering why everything is such a mess and why nobody has done anything about it.

So how do you people work with this stuff? Are you annoyed just as much as I am? Or am I really trying to do things that nobody else wants to do?

Problem with DK64's sample frequency? by TheBigL1 at 4:32 PM EDT on July 26, 2011
The USF I have is of Donkey Kong 64, ripped by Josh W. (7/08/06), and tagged by Wedge009. When I play most of the songs in Winamp with 64th Note v1.2 beta 3, the instruments sound like the pitch is a fraction of a step lower than it should be, which really ruins them. It doesn't happen with USFs from any other games. Is this a problem with 64th Note, or the USF file? Also, is it something I can fix myself?

Help with demuxing SFD video... by cooljacker at 12:07 PM EDT on July 27, 2011
It's a video from Ninja Gaiden Sigma for ps3. I've tried VGMtoolbox mpeg demultiplexer (set to sfd), it extracts audio (adx) fine, but video is always messed up (huge pixels, colors out of place and such, some players won't even open it). I (still) can't upload files from pc, so I've used hex editor to just cut the begining of the video, if that will be of any help... and uploaded it with phone...

Is there a player/converter for this stuff? I can see the file was probably created using Sofdec multiplexer v1.09 from 2007, and I don't know what to do next.
And I also used TMPGEnc to extract the video stream, but the result is the same as with VGMtoolbox.

The best I can get is the latest version (I think) of fsbext, which extracts the first two channels fine and fills the rest with trash. Pretty much nothing else can even open the files. No idea where to go next.
