Not having the best of luck by TrayShadix at 4:16 PM EDT on May 3, 2008

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

If not, is anyone planning on ripping this?

PSP and PS3 Music Formats (Plus Questions) by stahn1456 at 3:15 PM EDT on May 8, 2008
Hi, I am new here and I wanted to know if anyone knows if there is a plugin for Winamp that can play music directly from a PSP or PS3 disc. I was looking for a complete gamerip for Enchanted Arms (PS3), Brave Story: New Traveler (PSP), and Jeanne D' Arc (PSP). If anyone has these rips from the discs or a plugin, could you please let me know and put download links up? I have been wanting the music from these games for forever now.

Also, I am having a little trouble getting DSFLIB and MINIDSF files to play in Winamp. I have the plugins, but they don't seem to work. Maybe I'm setting them up wrong? Could someone help me and walk me through this? Cause I wanted to play Skies of Arcadia music in its DSF format. Thanks!

Crash Tag Team Racing by bxaimc at 4:10 PM EDT on May 9, 2008
Im currently making ADX files for anyone who wants Crash Tag Team Racing Streams. The streams in the original RCF file are RSD6VAG meaning that they don't loop and apparently have an annoying beep at the end of each song. There are many music files in the game so it will take a while for me to complete this project. It will probably take a month or so but they're coming along.

Here's a sample:

Once Upon A Tire: http://www.mybloop.com/bxaimc/01_ad01e2f70feea9e7_rsd.adx

btw, im using adxencd so that explains why this is a long process getting the loops right.

Does anyone know what audio format Tekken Tag Tournament and Ridge Racer V uses?
Silent Hill Origins by MarkGrass at 8:34 PM EDT on May 11, 2008
Unfortunately, the audio from the PSP version isn't compatible with in_cube, however the PlayStation 2 port is.

The music is in Climax's RWS format (also used by Ghost Rider for the PS2). Support for this audio format was made by fastelbja, so kudos to him for that.

This extractor really has nothing to do with the RWS audio (because they are in a folder titled "MUSIC", but nonetheless...

USF Ripping Questions by GreyDeath at 6:17 PM EDT on May 13, 2008
I decided to take up the art of USF ripping. I grabbed the guide written by HCS and decided to give it a go with Forsaken 64. I managed to find (I think) the function responsible for selecting music tracks, and was able to control which track plays during the startup sequence.

I even managed to kill off most of the threads. DLIST sits at 0.0% with 0 frames drawn, ALIST hovers around 1.2-2%, and r4300i hovers between 20-35%.

First of all, are these values about normal? Or do they vary from game to game?

Second, everything seems to go smoothly when I try to create the ram/rom sets using PJ64USF. The music plays fine and the process completes successfully. However, whenever I run rom2usf.exe and try to play the resulting USF, winamp crashes immediately. I've tried messing around with the configuration of 64th note, but nothing gets them to run properly. Is there any one place I should start looking for the problem? Is it because there's a bad thread still running that shouldn't be?

Any help would be appreciated.

Question about ripping .svag files from various DDR games by SSGotenksUFO at 7:13 PM EDT on May 16, 2008
I noticed that the list on this site here has some DDR games with .svag listed. Well I was wondering how I would go about ripping .svag files from the PS2 archive they are contained in. It is \DATA\FILEDATA.BIN. I am able to rip the songs using a program called vb2rip, but I was wondering how the .svag files were ripped.

This forum has been open 3 years starting tomorrow. To celebrate, I will post random crap that I've worked on or am working on due to you idiots. Do not ask me to start working on crap as that takes much more work to do than drag, drop, copy, paste and post.

And secondly, some stupid shit pertaining to MDSF, including the codebase of Gens I was working with, as well as a couple of ROMs patched to play music (Battletoads and Chaotix):
more dicks

And I might get around to MDSF sometime soon, but I just don't care about it.

**NOTICE** FORUM DATABASE MIGRATION by hcs at 10:47 AM EDT on May 28, 2008
As you are no doubt aware, the MySQL server that this forum runs on is an overloaded mess. I'm backing up the database now to migrate it over to a new location.

Importantly:

This is the LAST MESSAGE in the database. Any after this will not be backed up and will vanish when I switch to the new database. This goes also for new user accounts, as well as entries in the USF request list, GC stream database, or guestbook.

You'll know when the new database is up when you see a new thread entitled "WELCOME TO THE NEW DATABASE". Note that if you are using any of several alternate frontends to the forum (Josh's or unknownfile's) you'll have to wait for them to update it or use the official one: http://www.hcs64.com/mboard/forum.php5.

Extract Music from GRID (PC Version) by DjKnuX at 2:07 PM EDT on May 31, 2008
Hi again,
I bought the new Race Driver: GRID Game for the PC. In the Replays and a few other Scenes of the Game are a few nice Songs so I want tp extract them. I searched in the Install-Folder for the Files and I found them.
(GRID/audio/music) - very simple ;)
But now I can´t play them because they have a Format I don´t know, it´s called .WIM .
The Folder conatins 11 Files and the Filesizes are exactly 27 or 30 MB. I think it´s a bit strange because I think not every Song has the same length.
Maybe I should upload a File from the Folder.^^
When somebody has some free time, I can upload it for check the Format because I´m a noob as you already know.

Batch conversion with \'test\' by Gedankenschild at 4:59 PM EDT on June 2, 2008
Hi!

I just tried vgmstream and it works a treat.
My compliments to hcs for this whole project (including in_cube). Impressive how many formats are supported by now...

I also have a short question concerning the 'test'-converter:

Is there a way to make it batch-convert files?
I tried >>test -o *.wav *.dsp<< without success. That would be very convenient with games like Paper Mario 2 having 146 dsps in its sound folder... :)

Of course I know about Winamp's 'DiskWrite'. Still I think batch-conversions with 'test' would be a great thing.

Thanks and regards!

The Music from TP was ripped so I wonder if someone have the SFX? Or have I something misunderstood and it's not possible to rip the SFX?

Is it normal that some of the stage files that are extract through BMDview2 have broken textures? For example D_SB01 (Cave of Ordeals) If I'm extract that, all textures are black = completely corrupted? Maybe it's because of BMDview but i don't know. So any other way to extract them?

Megaman X music - Unknownfile rip by DChronos at 6:13 PM EDT on June 20, 2008
Hey, I came over here after discovering there was a PSF2 set ripped for Megaman X7, and subsequently found out about a Megaman X8 and Megaman X: command Mission rip from your list at this site.

I know there is an X7 rip, as it was posted long ago in this thread:
Original posting

Also, someone reposted in the same thread asking for it, and it was suggested he come here and ask unknownfile for it (on the last page). I checked out the stream music rips found in another thread, and was wondering about re-uploading the X7 to megaupload or rapidshare or something, and if you got X8 and Command Mission, stick em in the same file and send 'em all over, if you could.

One other question about this, too, it's labeled as PSF2 as far as I can tell, but if it's streamed, does it still play like normal on the HE plugin, or does it require the experimental in_cube to play because it's streamed?

Last, if someone would be willing to send those one time, and someone else comes along asking, I wouldn't mind too much re-uploading them once more for anyone else that asks.

Please and thanks, hope to get ahold of X7 at least! And thanks to all here that spend time creating these rips and plugins, too!
Generic Header Creator by manakoAT at 5:48 AM EDT on June 22, 2008
Here is the Generic Header Creator!

What is GENH?
GENH is a Header Format that allows you to append Various Streamed Music to a Generic Header, playable with vgmstream in Winamp!

Why do i need this?
There are many games that doesn't use headers for theyre music, basically this header was designed for headerless PS2 ADPCM to make it playable with Loop, but now it supports PS2 ADPCM, XBOX WAVM, NGC ADP/DTK, and PCM RAW!
So, if you want looped files that are headerless, simply add a GENH to this file! :o)

Download Generic Header Creator

Beware, this tool is still beta and under developement...

If you have any ideas to improve the tool please let me know!

vgmstream logo contest by hcs at 11:52 AM EDT on June 23, 2008
vgmstream has been in development for about half a year, and is coming along nicely. We'd like to do a beta release for promotional purposes soon, but while we have some of the best decoders in the field we don't have a logo! And as we know, the logo is the most important part of a successful project (well, after the name). So I propose:

A contest to design the vgmstream logo!

Before I list the rules, let me make clear that I welcome pretty much anything, and I want to see as many suggestions as possible. I just don't want to have to deal with legal crap, or crap submissions.

The rules:

1) Within the next 14 days (last day July 7th) post your suggested logo in this thread. It need not be finalized and polished, line drawings are OK, vivid descriptions might be marginally acceptable if they describe something sufficiently awesome. Note though that preference may be given to complete, usable logos. You don't have to put the image inline (with the [img] tag), you could just post a link to wherever you have it.

2) Submissions must be accompanied by a statement explicitly allowing their reproduction without restriction (though you may demand attribution if you like).

3) No limit on the number of submissions per person, joint submissions are OK but you'll have to decide among yourself how to split any (potentially awesome) prize.

4) Submissions should not be made of copied stuff, i.e. sprites from games and such. Freely drawn images of such things or custom sprites are fair game, though.

5) I'd like to see incorporated the concepts of A) video games B) music and possibly C) streams/rivers/etc (though don't struggle too much with that). Something that came up in early discussions was to avoid suggestions of lo-fi game sound (i.e. Space Invaders ships or such). As much as I love chiptunes, and though they are iconic and recognizable as video-game-related, vgmstream deals with prerendered streams, so such images may be misleading. This is more of a guideline than an actual rule, though, just letting you know ahead of time what my position is likely to be.

6) Please no intentionally stupid submissions. I'm sure they will be funny; let me laugh at them ahead of time to save you the trouble. Ha ha ha! And also LOL.

7) Winners will be selected by hcs (me). There may be more than one winner, there may be none if this turns out miserably. Though I only foresee using one logo as a primary (to avoid "diluting the brand") I see no reason not to reward sufficient awesomeness and maybe have a random spare image.

8) Winners will receive random items from my collection of random items, posted to wherever they happen to be (limited to Earth, sorry). You might get a choice if I can't decide. While I can't say what the value of the prizes will be just yet, they will be at least interesting.
And of course you win the right to have your logo on some awesome software.

So that's it, real prizes and fame for your good ideas. Since HCS Forum has a relatively small readership, please post about it elsewhere with a reference back to this thread (though please only somewhere appropriate, where people might be interested, and avoid seeming too spammy).

A couple questions, interleave and .wa by DChronos at 1:19 AM EDT on July 4, 2008
I spent a shitload of time searching round trying to figure out how to get these Wild Arms 3 songs to play properly in the ADPCM Player that MouserX pointed me to, and have the right frequency and channels, but then there's interleave which I can't get to work right. I don't know if this is just normal or something, but the best sound comes at a value of 400, above and below sucks, but at 400, there's a bunch of regular popping going on. I even adjusted by values of single bits (like 401+ and 3ff-) and nothing in those ranges work anyway because it just makes static.

Can anyone tell me what value this is supposed to be at?

Second is, I decided to check out Wind Waker, as I've wanted to listen to some quiet music while I work on some things, and notice that a ton of songs aren't even there. Also, there's all these .aw files, and the only ones that play in winamp are the files in the streams folder. I'm using the latest in_cube, and while searching, someone had said the .aw format was cracked and was in the in_cube already, at least as far as I understood what they were saying. But I also looked at the vgmstream readme and it didn't say it plaed them either, so... All I know is that this is part of the sequenced music, but if they just go to the other files in the streams folder, then how come there's so many missing songs, especially when my searches were turning up these results from clear back in '05?
*was really hoping for a few like Dragon Roost, and the main ocean theme*

That reminds me, I'd love to have the music of Starfox Adventures, too. Too bad it isn't ripped, as far as I know, and I can't even attempt ripping myself.

Anyway, I searched here and couldn't find anything, so sorry to bother you guys if it's already been answered.

On one more note, to manakoAT, in case you pop in here and reply about WA3... yeah, like I said, I'd love to try to help. VG Music is one of my favorite things. I still remember the first song I remembered... Coast to Coast in Rad Racer 2, clear back when I was 7 or 8. I can remember every sound of every note of just about every game I ever liked the music of.

Screwed up looping in vgmstream by DChronos at 10:51 PM EDT on July 6, 2008
I'm not sure if this is known or not, but since I started to use vgmstream, I just found that looping is screwed up in at least the song "swamp3-32.dsp" in Metroid Prime 2. With default settings, 2 loops, 10 second fadeout, 0 fade delay, and loop forever set, at exactly 4:37, you hear the loop screw up and it starts at the wrong loop start point. I have version r247, which was the latest one that from sourceforge.

I've verified it works right in in_cube, but not in_vgmstream.

I have no idea if this is known, or how many songs this actually happens on, but this is the first I've paid attention to to hear it happen.

If this is known, I'll just switch to in_cube for now, and this thread can be closed or used to report any other broken loop points.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2 2sf Gamerip by Ratiosu at 10:30 AM EDT on July 9, 2008
Hi,

I was wasting the last few days with trying to rip the music out of the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2 - Explorers of Time/Darkness games. But still no success. Browsed through tons of sites, but I could never find all parts needed to rip stuff reputable.
So, here's my question.. Does anyone know of some 2sf rips of the games, or, if not, can anyone rip them? I can upload the ROMs, if needed.

Rayman Music by Droolie at 11:29 AM EDT on July 24, 2008
Hey there!

It's Droolie here, the creator of RayTunes.

I was wondering if I could get any help ripping any Rayman soundtracks.

I'm especially interested in Rayman 2: Revolution for PS2, which has been done before ( I think ) by unknownfile, but never posted.

But not only Rayman 2: Revolution, also Rayman 3. As you can see, the soundtrack is already on RayTunes for a long time, but I've been really stupid, because I saved all the mp3's in mono format, and only 128 bitrate, so low quality, which means that I'd really want to rip it again.
But this time, I'd like to rip it from the GC version. I've uploaded a FileCutter archive here, but if that's not enough for ya, I'll upload the complete file in which the music is encrypted.

But I'd also like some help for Rayman Raving Rabbids 2.
As some people here probably already know, RRR2 uses *.wam and *.waa files for its music, but it's unreadable by in_cube.
If you want a sample of a wam file, go here.

That's some request, eh?
I hope you're not scared by the amount of games I request help for.
So... could you please help me?

Thanks,
Droolie.

USF Ripping Help! by GreyDeath at 6:07 PM EDT on July 25, 2008
Would anyone have any idea why a USF that I've ripped is 3 minutes and 10 seconds of silence when I hear music during the ripping process? The code I've written successfully halts the game process and drops the CPU down to 25-30% usage. Depending where I create the save state I can hear sound effects playing.

Could PJ64usf only be listening to, and ripping, a certain few channels? Could it be something to do with the fact that the game I'm trying to rip, Forsaken 64, creates the audio sequence with alCSeqNew, but uses alCSPSetSeq, alCSPPlay, etc.? Maybe the priority of the music channel(s) are lower than those of the sound effects?

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
Atari Jaguar music ripping? How? by Droolie at 3:17 AM EDT on August 2, 2008
Hey there!

I can't find this anywhere, and I thought you guys might know. So, do you know how to rip music from Atari Jaguar games? I'd especially like to rip the music from Rayman 1, the Jaguar version. I don't expect any of you to know this, though.

Thanks in advance,
Droolie. ;)

Mario Galaxy .AW files decoding... by Coburn64 at 10:12 PM EDT on August 29, 2008
Hi.

I found some .aw files in the /AudioRes/Waves folder. However, the HCS tool that can decode AW files didn't work, and also I didn't see any JaiInit.aaw files. There's JaiSeq.arc and stuff, but nothing else.

They seem to be PCM data. I could hear some of them with loads of noise and static.

Can someone please help me? I'm keen to get Rosalina's voices from Galaxy.

Thanks,

I could've sworn that this game used ADX files for its music, but when I got the ISO, all I found were:

SND_MENU.NGX
SND_WH1.NGX
SND_WH1A.NGX
SND_WH2.NGX
SND_WH2A.NGX
SND_WHJ.NGX
SND_WHJA.NGX
SND_WHP.NGX
SND_WHPA.NGX

Could these be renamed AFS files?

Stupid Question by Rew at 11:20 PM EDT on September 3, 2008
I know this site is mainly for music and audio. But does anyone here have any experience with ripping or extracting images from games?

I'm asking specifically about Mega Man X Command Mission. I have the PS2 version disc in my computer right now, and I want to open the icon file (it has a .ico suffix). Does anyone know what software program I can use to open it? I'm trying to get the sprites for the boss icons that you see at the bottom of the screen during boss battles, to see when a boss's turn is coming up. I'm assuming those are in the file called ICON00.ICO.

(I tried using your standard programs like Paint and Windows Photo Gallery, but those are of course unsupported.)

Again, my apologies if this is ridiculously off-topic for an audio-related forum like this. =P
Extracting Wii channel music by VideoGameScrapBook at 4:48 AM EDT on September 5, 2008
Has anybody extracted audio yet from WiiWare, channels, or channel intros?

I've managed to get to a sound.bin for the intro tune of WiiWare games, and discovered some source code that would allow decoding of the bns sound format. Unfortunately I'm not much of a programmer, so I don't know how to really make use of the C# code.

http://pastebin.com/f332ae5e4

Can anybody create a command line utility with this source code?

hcs, can this be worked into vgmstream?

most accurate sound emulation settings for NES/SNES by VideoGameScrapBook at 10:01 PM EDT on September 5, 2008
So I've started a "Brawl Originals" series on my website, which is a collection of all the original versions of the rearranged songs from Brawl. I've searched forever for some recommendations on what to do to achieve the most accurate playback of NSF and SPCs.

Here's what I'm currently using:

NSF - NotSo Fatso
-Stereo disabled
-Sample Rate: 32000
-all pop reducers disabled
-Prevent Inverting disabled

SPC - SNESAmp
-Sample: 32000 16 bit
-Analog simulation disabled
-Interpolation: Gaussian
-Stereo seperation: 50
-Echo feedback crosstalk: 0%
-AAR: off

I'm fairly certain I have the SNES settings as accurate as they can get. Except I do have analog simulation disabled, because I don't trust it would produce the effect naturally enough, and I assume it's essentially just a filter that could be added later if it's actually wanted.

The NES on the other hand, is a big question mark.

-What sample rate should I be using for NES sound?
-Does NES audio need 16 bit resolution for accurate sound, or can the sound be in 8 bit resolution?

So, Mega Man 9 was released this week on WiiWare in all its 8-bit glory, including with the good old NES 8-bit chiptunes.

The rips I really want back are (note all are Gamecube):

Phantasy Star Online Episode III
Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness
Sonic Adventure DX
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle
Sonic Heroes
Zelda Wind Waker (Music Only)

Thats about it/all I can remember. Thank you in advance.

UF creates a new useless project by unknownfile at 1:33 PM EDT on October 9, 2008
Hi guys. I am starting another project, which is probably never going to be finished unless I start attention-whoring, so now would be the best time to do so.

I present to you:

[bold]SUPER MEGA SOUND EMULATOR 2000[/bold]

After leeching ruthlessly off MAME for code, I think I will try and do something for the project. No, this isn't a stupid M1 clone - what I am attempting to do is have it support ripped music and original ROMs of games that don't fall under the patched crap that hoot uses.

SUPER MEGA SOUND EMULATOR 2000 currently has a NSF driver which is a piece of crap and a half, and since I haven't even tested it, I know it's bad. It will expand to include other ripped formats as I learn to code with this messy code.

So, essentially, it's M1/hoot with a File Open option. Nothing interesting.
