It might be easier in the sense that the games are on discs rather than cartridges (granted, Wii U discs are a high capacity proprietary kind from what I'm reading, which might complicate things), but beyond that, probably not a lot easier, Wii U games will probably be encrypted just the same as 3DS games are.
by bxaimc at 11:56 AM EST on November 21, 2012
It's Blu-ray based.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 2:42 PM EST on November 21, 2012
Well there's only one thing to do.... demand Nintendo releases soundtracks for all their Wii U and 3DS games. Why should we not be able to listen to Koopa City/Neo Bowser City without having annoying engine sounds, or rain sounds, or other sound effects? Heck, insert any song without sound effects?

N00b question... how do you play ATRAC3+ files?
by AceK at 6:00 AM EST on December 15, 2012
Koopa: You need to convert .at3 to .aa3. There is a bms script to do so, which also cuts out .smpl data for loop purposes. They play fine using Sony Sound Forge after converting to .aa3.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 6:54 PM EST on December 16, 2012
I have Sony Sound Forge... (10.0c trial IIRC)

The thing I can't seem to do is convert at3 to aa3.

I tried quickbms, but it says something about having too many arguments or something?
by TheUltimateKoopa at 7:17 PM EST on December 16, 2012
This is more complex than USFs. At least you don't have to do a load of unnecessarily converting to shit just to play the fucking shit.

by marcusss at 8:50 PM EST on December 16, 2012
Yeah I know what you mean. Same goes for xma ;-) Some game music is a bitch and time consuming to convert from xma like Dead or alive 5 and other games.

Would be good if there were links of games with their music converted from at3/xma :D
by Infernus Animositas at 4:19 AM EST on December 17, 2012
The Ultimate Koopa:

http://forum.xentax.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=6591

A tool that converts AT3 to AA3.

Run it, drag and drop the AT3 files onto it, click the "SFaa3" button then import the files to Sound Forge.

UltimateKoopa:

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?adhb1bd975yukpc

Extract this to a new folder (must be only these 3 files in a directory for the moment.) Once that's done, drag the files of those .at3's to this directory. Run the batch script, and it should convert to .aa3. Play these on Sony Sound Forge ;).

by banshiryuu at 5:12 AM EST on December 20, 2012
Wait, so what are the .smpl files there for? I get that they have something to do with loops but what are you supposed to do with them?
by Knurek at 7:05 AM EST on December 20, 2012
No need for them, both VGMToolbox and AT3Plusloop.exe can generate .POS files which you can load combined with decrypted WAVs with vgmstream for looping.

Oh, and it's much easier to just use HiMDRenderer for decrypting AT3 files, since it can load most of them just fine - it only has problems with mono ATRAC3Plus and all ATRAC3 files. For ATRAC3 you have a DirectShow filter available, so they should be easy to convert using Winamp/whatever. Mono ATRAC3Plus will need QuickBMS and Sound Forge method unfortunately.

Summing up:

1. Run either VGMToolbox or AT3Plusloop on files, have them generate playlist.m3u and .POS files
2. Convert AT3 files to WAV with HiMDRenderer - try Sound Forge only if you get errors while converting.
3. Move WAV files to the same directory you have the .POS files in
4. Play/wavewrite the playlist.m3u with vgmstream installed

edited 7:13 AM EST December 20, 2012
by banshiryuu at 12:35 PM EST on December 20, 2012
Hmmm... okay, so the .m3u and .pos files came with the set that I downloaded, (Darius Burst) and since I can't for the life of me get HiMDRenderer to work on my computer, I converted all of the .at3 files to .aa3 and opened them in Sound Forge to save them all to .wav. They're all in the directory with the .pos and .m3u files, but loading the .m3u isn't giving me any results. Do I have to rename the .wav files to something different for them to load??
by Knurek at 2:10 PM EST on December 20, 2012
HiMDRenderer names the WAV files a bit differently than Sound Forge.

You probably have add_bgm1.at3 named as add_bgm1.wav, where vgmstream looks for add_bgm1.at3.wav

HiMDRenderer needs SonicStage to work, check if you have this installed.
by banshiryuu at 10:14 PM EST on December 20, 2012
Whoops, I didn't even realize that I didn't have to use the .m3u method, I could just open them all normally in foobar anyway... Well that solves that! ><

Ah, I didn't have Sonic Stage either, so that fixes that problem. It's a shame the Dangan Ronpa set doesn't convert with neither HiMDRenderer nor the QuickBMS script...

edited 10:32 PM EST December 20, 2012
by Knurek at 2:12 AM EST on December 21, 2012
The first Dangan-Ronpa game uses plain ATRAC3 (not ATRAC3Plus), there is a DirectShow codec available for that format.

When having that installed, the .AT3 files should play fine, depending on a player you use you might need to rename them to .WAV. Either play them by themselves or wavewrite and use the .POS files for looping.

wow, thanks for that!

edited 3:20 PM EDT August 19, 2013
by Infernus Animositas at 7:48 AM EDT on August 20, 2013
I'd imagine it is because it would take considerable time/effort/trial and error to program it into vgmstream.

We've been able to decode XMA and XMA2 from the Xbox 360 for years now and vgmstream still doesn't support it because of that reason.

But I am quite grateful for all the formats vgmstream supports :)

Battle Gear 2 (Tokyo Road Race)(2001)(Taito)[PS2][Sony ADPCM][ADS]

Got it from the Tokyo Road Race version. Tracks are looped and faded internally.

This is my first time sharing a dropbox link so let me know if I've screwed it up.

Any ideas on how to decrypt/stream the adx2/hca content (the above dragon's crown for example)? hca2wav doesn't seem to like it, and I am having difficulty finding other options.
by Dais! at 10:39 PM EDT on August 22, 2013
Battle Gear?! Tasty! Thank you.

Incidentally, it's not really an issue for a download like that, but if you replace the www.dropbox bit with dl.dropboxusercontent, it should turn into a direct download lik instead of a redirect to a download page.
(this is more useful with Twine games)

I have no idea if dropbox monitors and punishes that kind of thing, tho'
by bxaimc at 11:51 PM EDT on August 22, 2013

Thanks for the SR rips. I had to resort to grabbing the extremely small OST for SR3, glad someone finally figured it out/took it on. <3

@Franpa : Yes. As pointed out to me in another thread, Google for it. vgastream can't play them as is, but if you play them as (or rename them to) .mp3s they play fine. I can vouch for the the piratebay torrent.

Some guy named Hyperion uploaded it; does he visit here or is there some other place on the net also interested in 100% rips?
by Franpa at 10:54 AM EDT on September 27, 2013
Do you know of an alternative location to get the torrent file? Perhaps you could upload it to Mediafire or something temporarily if you still have it.

Pirate Bay appears to be offline and a google search yields results that are either also dead or the links are obfuscated until you register an account and log in.

I'm assuming Squeenix is going around trying to stop distribution of it xD

Oh shit, sorry.
http://thepiratebay.sx/torrent/8413940/
It's back. But since you'll probably need to rename everything to mp3 anyway (195 tracks) probably best to just dl from mediafire.
by Franpa at 2:58 AM EDT on September 29, 2013
Awesome stuff, thanks very much both of you!
by Franpa at 3:18 AM EDT on September 29, 2013
Question: They aren't actually MP3's are they? What plugin is typically used to play them back? My copy of Winamp with various plugins will play them but not other media players like Media Player Classic.

This information will presumably let me set a Loop parameter in the appropriate plugin and have the music seamlessly loop.

Edit: Perhaps they are in an extended MP3 format that allows bitrates above 320?

edited 3:24 AM EDT September 29, 2013
by peronmls at 4:15 PM EDT on September 29, 2013
IDK. If you change it to mp3 it shows it has a bitrate of 192

edited 6:05 PM EDT September 29, 2013
by Hotcakes at 8:01 PM EDT on September 29, 2013
By deafult they are .scds, but they've been acknowledged as being 'broken', which I presume means they're in some format vgmstream just doesn't handle right.
by Franpa at 4:34 AM EDT on September 30, 2013
yeah, well the just released Media Player Classic - Home Cinema v1.7 plays them back fine as does Windows Media Player and Winamp.

And I did notice the 192Kbit bitrate which is reasonable quality considering most games I've seen tend to use notably worse quality like 128Kbit.
by JILost at 5:17 AM EDT on October 13, 2013
The latest vgmstream for foobar can play at3 files from Joshw's PSP folder, right? I just downloaded a few sets and foobar 1.1.15 reports "Unable to open item for playback (Unsupported format or corrupted file)" whenever I try to load an individual .at3 or when I try to load the playlist.m3u - although when I load the m3u, it reports the above only in reference to the .pos files. foobar tells me I have vgmstream build 1014, which is more recent than what's in the vgmstream folder on hcs (1013). I've tried Mega Man Powered Up and Guilty Gear Judgment, so I don't think I'm working with at3plus files without realizing it. Am I missing something?

No.
by Knurek at 2:32 PM EDT on October 13, 2013
Actually, it can play some of them - most ATRAC3+ files are supported correctly.

Mega Man Powered up is ATRAC3, Guilty Gear Judgement is ATRAC3+, so the latter should work.

//EDIT: Checked myself, Guilty Gear Judgement works fine.

Unable to open item for playback (Unsupported format or corrupted file):
"C:\Documents and Settings\Jesse\My Documents\My Music\Game\Stream\Guilty Gear Judgment\01.AT3.pos"

Unable to open item for playback (Unsupported format or corrupted file):
"C:\Documents and Settings\Jesse\My Documents\My Music\Game\Stream\Guilty Gear Judgment\02.AT3.pos"

That's part of the result from playlist.m3u. Is there something I have to do first?

by JILost at 11:25 PM EDT on October 13, 2013
I recall kode54 saying he'd added support for some kind of at3 (I'm guessing Plus) a while back, with Knurek trying a few files and verifying it worked; that's the only reason I set out on this quest in the first place, and why I'm confused as to why it doesn't seem to be working for me.
by Knurek at 12:38 AM EDT on October 14, 2013
@JILost: Foobar does not play the .POS files, you need to play the .AT3 ones. :) They will still loop, so no worries.

@snakemeat: kode54 added support for AT3+ based on PPSSPP plugin to his foobar port of VGMStream. hcs hasn't added those changes back to mainline VGMStream yet.
by JILost at 2:26 AM EDT on October 14, 2013
Ah, so I shouldn't use the playlist.m3u, then, since it's entirely .pos files. That explains that.

Got Judgment working now. Thanks for your help!

Nice, I'll have to take a look. Anyone know if PS3 AT3+ is supported? Also, both RIFF and OMA/AA3 headers supported? If not, I'll check for myself when I can get some time.
by Knurek at 10:41 AM EDT on October 14, 2013
Armored Core - For Answer (2008-03-19)(-)(From Software) AT3 work, so PS3 should do too.

Only RIFF headers, need to convert OMA/AA3 before playing.
by haspor at 12:18 PM EDT on October 15, 2013
i noticed they added some atrac3+ stuff on latest FFMPEG, check it out, would be nice to have it on VGMSTREAM at some point, FFMPEG is pain in the neck to compile and handle especially on Android
by kode54 at 4:05 PM EDT on October 15, 2013
I already added ATRAC3+ to my fork of VGMSTREAM, which works nicely. The only thing I haven't added is plain ATRAC3, mainly because I didn't want to go and import my own version of FFMPEG.

Now that I've done pretty much that with Cog, I may be able to work out something for VGMSTREAM, whittling it down to just the codecs and stream format handlers that VGMSTREAM is likely to use.

Heh, my fork also supports MP4/AAC using MP4V2 and fdkaac, which would be another codec and container I could offload to FFMPEG.

I know you are not probably the right person to ask this, but given hcs commitment to his PhD, maybe you could add your changes to mainline VGMStream/in_vgmstream as well?

pmh is closing in on PSP release date, I'd love to have an easy way of playing back AT3/AT3+ for all major music players by then.
by kode54 at 2:41 AM EDT on October 16, 2013
My source should readily compile with the Winamp plugin already bundled into the same source tree. I just haven't gotten around to compiling any of the other plugins.
by Knurek at 3:47 AM EDT on October 17, 2013
I would really appreciate if anyone capable would provide compiled binaries for the updated Winamp VGMStream plugin - I'm aiming for total parity between players in pmh, and so far with the exception of WSR and NGP (unless foo_gep supports them now) rips I think I've been able to do so.
by snakemeat at 10:12 PM EST on November 3, 2013
Don't have the free time I used to, so I just finally got around to trying foobar2000 with the forked plugin. Thanks, kode54, for integrating the AT3+ stuff.

So apparently, proper ATRAC3+ support has been added recently to FFDShow. It has already supported ATRAC3 for quite a while, maybe it'd be time to add both formats to VGMStream (without using the MaiAT3PlusDecoder hack kode54 currently uses for his builds, since that's definitely not kosher).

I did a rip to BlazBlue Chronophantasma for the PS3. Credits to AlphaTwentyThree along with the design of QuickBMS for making this possible!

The rip didn't remove duplicates since the .MSF files seem to all have different values from file to file, so I left it the same.

Inside the .rar comes with an easy extraction batch to convert .MSF to .AT3, assuming you have the proper player to play .AT3 files.

I'm sorry that I didn't remove the "segs" line on these file names, I left them as is along with the file names. I'm also sorry that I uploaded a .rar rather than a .zip, but idk if this is a big problem or not since I haven't uploaded in a while.

Please let me know what adjustments should be made on the rip. Enjoy!

BlazBlue - Chronophantasma (2013)(Arc System Works)[PS3][ATRAC3][MSF].rar

Where can i get the source code for the foobar atrac stuff? :)
by Knurek at 3:01 AM EST on November 9, 2013
Mana: Kode54 repository

PPSSPP emulator which uses FFDShow for both ATRAC3 and ATRAC3+ decoding: PPSSPP repository

Core/HLE/sceAtrac.cpp might be useful

Anybody got the Gradius ReBirth brstm's to put on the tracker?

Thanks.

EDIT: I found joshw's copy of it, but it doesn't have the 3 bonus tracks from the MSX. (DLC?)

I'd appreciate if someone uploaded a version with 'em, but I guess it isn't as urgent anymore.

A slight break in my hiatus:

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (2013)[XBOX360]

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (2013)[PS3]

Both ripped and tagging at the moment.

Lovely formats. SQEX is so nice enough to hide things in the wrong places.

Mein proof:

104 - Naoshi Mizuta - Equilibrium.scd

:)

My first contribution here, hope I'm doing everything right...

Echo Night: Beyond (2004)(From Software)(Agetec)[PS2][RAW Interleaved PCM][ADX]
part 1
part 2

Extracted from the NTSC-U version of the game, using IsoBuster.

To convert to WAV:
- change extensions to .ss2
- test.exe -o "file_out" "file_in"
* test.exe can be obtained from the vgmstream Winamp plugin archives

This site and forum are some of the hidden gems of the internet, truly.

My request would be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Battle Nexus for the PlayStation 2. I am dying to find out if really it has a better sounding version than the GameCube or Xbox versions. Thanks in advance!
by Kirishima at 7:39 PM EST on December 7, 2013
@vagrant18

Read your request from the other thread. I'm just wondering how you would know that the ps2 version isn't also adpcm compressed?

Anybody know where to get Zelda: Link Between Worlds music? Is it even possible to extract the music from the games yet and if so, is there a music player/plugin for them?
