How do you manage to rip out the streams/psf data from Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts games? I've been trying some programs with no luck. Just wonder as I saw KH2 Streams on the tracker.

Sorry for the cross post, but it must be reiterated that Manako is a crazy bastard. <3
by nothingtosay at 9:27 PM EDT on August 24, 2010
Awesome. PS-Jailbreak only just appeared and already it's been used to bring us music. I wanna know what format Final Fantasy XIII's music is in and if we can use it in full hi-res, multi-channel glory.

I don't wanna sound like an FF fanboy, but that soundtrack is one of the top reasons I wanted PS3 music to be rippable. I would also snatch up a Valkyria Chronicles rip as soon as I saw it.

EDIT to add I believe it that manako is a crazy bastard. A crazy-*awesome* bastard.

This isn't exactly the right thread for this, but since the request originated in this thread, I thought I'd respond in kind.

Someone created a line-in gamerip from the PS3 version of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and uploaded it here. I like the style so far. Hopefully others here will find this useful.

Of note (this is mentioned in the included ReadMe), this is NOT the OST, but they did title/tag the songs according to the OST. Please enjoy.

P.S. Awesome news on the PS3 Jailbreak thing! Finally! PS3 rips! While I'm glad for this, I have not yet noticed anything that seriously catches my attention (namely, a streamed rip I want. Nothing comes to mind immediately, but I'm sure something will show up soon enough). I hope to see more of this soon! Mouser X over and out.

Metroid Other M by Jackano at 8:08 AM EDT on August 28, 2010
Metroid Other M sounds are .aix (like furrybob said, probably .adx). I can't get it playing in my winamp with the latest vgmstream and an odd adx plugin found on winamp.com.

Any help please?
by hcs at 9:41 AM EDT on August 28, 2010
Feel free to upload one, aix should be supported.
However you might first check if you can decode them with test.exe. It may be that they have many channels (that is the purpose of aix) and it doesn't work with your output plugin.
by Jackano at 9:53 AM EDT on August 28, 2010
Thank you HCS.
Here it is if you want to check out:
http://rapidshare.com/files/415651034/Metroid-Other-M_AIX_sample.zip

I will see with test.exe now, and search for anothers output plugin.

Edit: test.exe give me a valid dump.wav, so it is probably the output plugin... Can someone point me out one that should be working? I'm on Win7 with no particular sound card if this is important... Thanks! :)

These files don't have an unusual number of channels, so it is odd for them not to work. Are you sure you have the vgmstream plugin installed? Check in the input plugins list.
by Jackano at 10:57 AM EDT on August 28, 2010
Ok, that's odd. Is there a reason for why vgmstream is not installed? It's first time in years i'm using 64th note/HN/in_cube/vgmstream... that I see that. I've done a clean reinstall of winamp, but nothing... Ideas? ^_-
by bxaimc at 11:05 AM EDT on August 28, 2010
@Hotcakes: because the original rip was bad. think of it like this: say you ripped a game with adx but you didn't realize that every file was contained in an afs archive. Let's also say that the afs arhive didn't have a noticable header with the "AFS" at the beginning and assumed it was just sound data. Apparently, the original rip had xma files within nub archives.
by hcs at 11:06 AM EDT on August 28, 2010
Remove in_cube. Also please check the vgmstream readme for instructions regarding the dlls. Also, if you are using a new version of Winamp, it is possible that it has messed with the dlls, try copying them (both the external dlls and the plugin) over afresh.

@furrybob:
Thanks very much for the rip! I just have one complaint: one file, bgm_m_stage_06_02.aix seems to be truncated. The header indicates that it should be at least 0x581000 bytes long. I didn't check the subdirectories, but this was the only main bgm file that vgmstream had any trouble with.
by Jackano at 12:03 PM EDT on August 28, 2010
Ok, I think there is a real glitch here:
I chechked out old vgmstream versions. It seems it's something added in the release 287 that f**k out my winamp plugin detection for vgmsteam. Older releases including the 283M release works. Releases >=287 aren't detected... I'm ok with the dlls... What i'm missing?
by snakemeat at 12:16 PM EDT on August 28, 2010
Be sure to check the readme file. Seems like 99% of the time this comes up, it's the missing _extra_ .dll files.
by furrybob at 1:16 PM EDT on August 28, 2010
@hcs
It works if you play the individual adx files.

Edit: Actually, it seems to be missing a third adx, and the second adx cuts off a few seconds from the end.

edited 1:25 PM EDT August 28, 2010
by hcs at 3:23 PM EDT on August 28, 2010
Yes, that is my point. aix2adx just walks through the file handling each chunk, but vgmstream is more strict and actually checks the headers. This file is shorter than it is supposed to be.

@jackano: In 285 AHX support was added, which was the first to require an external dll (mpg123). Please read the readme as snakemeat suggested.
by Jackano at 3:35 PM EDT on August 28, 2010
Ah, finally! ^^"
I actually had the dlls but, one of them wasn't the "offical" vgmstream version... Probably one that have been required and updated by another plugin. Sorry for the trouble, thanks for your help!

PS: The Other M soundtrack is a bit disapointing :(
by Mouser X at 4:47 PM EDT on August 28, 2010
I completely agree. I have MP1-MP3 on my MP3 player, and I can assure you that, even if I had the space (there's at least 6 audio sets [likely more] that I want to put on my MP3 player that I don't have room for), I wouldn't put Other M on there. There's just nothing that grabs my attention enough to make me want to listen to it again. Somewhat disappointing actually. Mouser X over and out.

by Omochao at 1:54 AM EDT on August 29, 2010
Mouser X, Ridley's theme certaintly grabs your attention. I agree though, that the soundtrack is rather dissapointing. Different from other Metroid soundtracks, the closet being the dark part of Echoes.

MOM videos by Jackano at 7:28 AM EDT on August 29, 2010
Ok, I have an another request to push here ^^

Metroid Other M videos... All in the movie directory, all in .SFD.
Searching around the web I found pretty good intels about the SFD format.

Here, someone seems to have wrote a program to decode them :http://forum.xentax.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=3084
but this forum requires administrator validation to register, in order to download it.

Also, VLC open the file and barely play the video;
And in fact, I found this description on the above forum:
"Basically, the sfd files were made by Sofdec to carry .mpg/.m2v files along with their .adx/.wav audio.".

Seems to be a good challenge, no? :)

Regarding the music to Other M, I have this to say - So far, I have found the music to Arc Rise Fantasia (it's on the tracker) to be something I'm much more inclined to listen to. There's numerous tracks that made me say "Ooooh. I like that one. I should add that to a playlist." I just thought I'd mention that, in case anyone was mildly interested in checking out the music for that game. Mouser X over and out.
by CapComMDb at 11:59 PM EDT on August 29, 2010
Yeah, the Other M soundtrack isn't that great to listen to outside of the game. I'll have to check out Arc Rise though.

BTW, is anyone else having trouble playing bgm_stage_06_02.aix? I also have trouble converting the files to wav. They'll convert, but the quality is horrid.
by Mouser X at 3:37 PM EDT on August 30, 2010
Judgeito is right, the music in the events folder is better than the main music. If I put anything on my MP3 player (unlikely, since I don't have room), it'd be stuff from there. If you passed up listening to the Other M music, perhaps give the "se_rtm_dm" files a listen. Though, if you got the original file off of Megaupload, be sure to skip the voiced entries.... (se_rtm_dm##_se.aix and se_rtm_dm##_se_jp.aix) Mouser X over and out.

Mouser, still no one seeding the Katamari files? I'm sorry.

I have set up a quick torrent pointing directly to my repository (unpacked). I'll set up torrents for the others when/if you've finished this one.
by Mouser X at 12:50 AM EDT on September 7, 2010
I appreciate that, but at roughly 800 MB, I don't think I can grab that. Apparently, I'm moving (I've known about it for awhile, but I've been putting it off for as long as I can. Time's up it seems), and I won't have internet access (unless I "piggyback" on someone else's wireless network). This is going to happen within the next 48 hours (likely within the next 20), so I'm not sure I'll have time to finish the torrent. There's also the fact that I use in_zip on Winamp, and only extract stuff from archives when I have to. Theoretically though, if I understand correctly, I should be able to grab your torrent, compress the files, then run that through torrentzip. The resulting ZIP should, I think, match the torrent I'm currently sitting on.

Nonetheless, I really appreciate it. I was hoping to grab Gargoyles (old Disney TV show), but I don't have enough HDD room, and especially not enough time. :( Oh well. Thanks for the thought though (on the Katamari stuff - HCS already seeded the other 2 to completion for me). Mouser X over and out.

Just drag the AST files (individually) onto the exe file. It will extract the multi files for you.
by Sir-Sabin at 1:11 AM EDT on September 9, 2010
you can do that?
by bxaimc at 7:23 AM EDT on September 9, 2010
That could work as well but for a few tools. Sometimes you need to type a few things otherwise it won't work.
by Tanookirby at 1:14 PM EDT on September 9, 2010
In the command prompt, go to the directory where ast_multi.exe is located. Type ast_multi.exe *.ast where * is the name of the ast file.

Is there a similar tool for BRSTM files? Some of the Mario Kart Wii tracks I have seem to have multiples in them (namly Bowser's Castle).

Yes, "Revolution B" extracts .dsps from .brstm. Usage:
revb --extract source.brstm dest1.dsp dest2.dsp

What superlative should I use to describe you this time? :D

But hold on, so the music is MP3? They have a Blu-ray disc and they make the music MP3? Not even 48 kHz, on the trial anyway. That's disappointing. Any multi-channel tracks at least? I thought it was supposed to be surround sound. That's what I got all excited over theoretically getting.

I want to thank you whatever the case though.

and they said it would be uncompressed on the ps3, but it seemed they lied.
by bxaimc at 9:59 AM EDT on September 12, 2010
Ok enough with this. I think this we just a misunderstading we had toward what SQEX meant by uncompressed. I think what they meant was they were leaving textures, environments, fmv, everything (except sound) uncompressed. Look, you have 32 GB of FMVs. It's not bad that they used MP3 for BGM. I think it sounds great compared to XMA. The best part about this is that they didn't use ATRAC3. No, nothing is multichannel and I never thought it would be anyway (there's no point because the game mixes it into surround anyway). Be grateful people because vgmstream now supports SCD for FFXIII.

I'm not upset about it or anything if it came off that way. I meant the tone to be quizzical, like "really?". It was just that reading people on GameFAQs' answers board, there were a couple who said their audio systems were receiving 7.1 linear PCM, even pointing out it was real surround, not Pro Logic or anything. And the back of the game says Dolby Digital (not Pro Logic II like I know Nintendo games do) and DTS, so I figured that meant it had all the music in multi-channel AC3, whatever the DTS format is, and PCM, like audio tracks on a DVD.

And I guess the expectation of Blu-ray, you know, ultra hi-fi picture and audio, next generation. I suppose since the FMVs take up so much space, they wouldn't have had room for uncompressed surround sound music. Interesting that everyone was fooled about the sound they were hearing though. I guess if your equipment tells you it's one thing you're probably inclined to not question it.

I haven't heard the Xbox 360 audio yet since I'm evidently incompetent at doing what Google search results tell me to do, but the MP3 does sound good on the trial version. I've heard some say Sound Forge is reputed to have the best MP3 encoder of all, and it is Sony's program. Can't say I would have thought it was CBR 160 kbps. "Battle Results" and "Those For the Purge" are mixed differently too, possibly others, so it's cool to have that and I'm hoping there will be similar small surprises in the real game soundtrack. Maybe just some slight variation made somewhere for the English version that wasn't put on the OST Plus that will make me happy to have in my possession.

Like I said, thanks regardless of what my expectation was, bxaimc. I'll be downloading it when you put it up. And everyone, please excuse my rant. :)
by manakoAT at 5:31 PM EDT on September 12, 2010
To be honest, there was just one of ~20 games that uses pcm, the rest is atrac3, ps adpcm, mp3 or ogg...
Could be that the sound card recieves 7.1 linear PCM, but this is just a fake output (see FF13, the full version has just 128kbps from what i heard)

Most output is going to be linear PCM, since that's what the software or hardware is going to be mixing. There's no point in decoding, mixing, and then recoding to ADPCM or whatever just for the sake of conserving bandwidth over the cable to the amplifier.

Right, I understand that now. Recorded media has everything predetermined, so there is no further mixing. Games being interactive means that music and voices and sound effects have to be kept separate and then combined into one stream when called upon, so it's not the same as a movie and I didn't make that connection before. I just saw the same logos as on the backs of movie cases and assumed the same without thinking more about it.

I wish they had made the music real multi-channel, but actually I think that in practice is often overrated. Not bad, potentially way better than stereo, but I think people like it moreso because it's different and it feels like something premium, rather than the actual application. I've found when watching something that features music prominently like The Beatles Anthology, even though there's Dolby and DTS 5.1 and that's cool to hear and have, I kind of prefer the 2 channel PCM track through Pro Logic II. (Although the surround "Strawberry Fields Forever" has a guitar part that, when you're positioned right between the two rear speakers, sounds like it's literally *inside* your head.)

I guess it's because lots of times when doing surround, people mix the main thing to the front and largely put effects and stuff in the rear. I wish they'd use every channel to its full capacity, and matrix decoding gives a (really good) simulation of that. Hey, it was enough to trick everyone into thinking they were getting a true 7.1 mix. But I guess they all assumed like me, if it says linear PCM on your receiver's display or whatever that it just is and it'd be the same as with a movie's audio, not thinking how games would work differently.

EDIT: Wow, enough of my walls of text.

by SmartOne at 9:21 PM EDT on September 12, 2010
Oh freaking really?

What are the specs of the Final Fantasy streams?
by OrangeC at 9:26 PM EDT on September 12, 2010
@hotcakes

download bms script from luigi's page

save the code i posted a page back to a txt file but name it at3toaa3.bms open the bms script with quickbms and select the at3 file has to be headered with a riff header. select the output directory and it should throw out an aa3 file, open it with full version of soundforge it should play.

make sure theres no junk before the riff header in the at3 file, has to be RIFF at the start as the script looks for it.
