Obscure GBS Request by Tiberious at 8:29 AM EST on December 17, 2008
I know this hasn't been ripped, as it fails to show up ANYWHERE, but I'd really like a rip from a game called Panel Action Bingo...

If I had the knowledge, I'd do it myself, but since I don't, well... yeah.

Anyway, thank you in advance for considering doing this for me. :3
by Knurek at 9:39 AM EST on December 17, 2008
Already ripped by ugetab.

Since we are talking about obscure GBS files, here's one. Anyone know where I can find a GBS of Rockman DX3?

You know, sometimes I wish I had the ability to discern the quality of Gameboy music, because I could swear that this Rockman DX3 music is actually passable, and it's a pirate game. That never happens with pirate games.

Well, I guess the Uncharted Waters music was pretty good.
by marioman at 8:55 AM EST on December 18, 2008
Exactly my thought. If you search the Web for Rockman DX3 videos, you will see that the graphics and level design are unusually good for a pirate. Sort of weird that a company would put so much effort into ripping off a game.
by Tiberious at 7:56 AM EST on January 3, 2009
I got to track 14 in that Rockman DX3 GBS, and it somehow sounded familiar to me, and when I checked, it was the same track from Mega Man V (the GB version) with altered notes.

Also, I didn't know the PAB GBS was around (not in that 'penultimate archive', so... I figured it wasn't ripped.

Edit: Ok... what about World Heroes 2 Jet?

by Omochao at 2:39 AM EST on January 4, 2009
Thanks for Looney Tunes! However, it plays WAY too fast in Winamp. I am using NEZplug.

edited 2:54 AM EST January 4, 2009
by Knurek at 2:54 AM EST on January 4, 2009
Plays the same speed in BGB.

Unless you're using NEZPlug, instead of NEZPlug++. All bets are off then.

Any chance of rips for the GBC Metantei Conan games? The 2 GB ones are ripped, and from quick browsing the GBC have good music as well:

Meitantei Conan: Karakuri Jiin Satsujin Jiken
Meitantei Conan: Kigantou Hihou Densetsu
Meitantei Conan: Norowareta Kouro

by ugetab at 2:59 AM EST on January 4, 2009
I got the code used in the GBS into Nezplug++, primarily, FF4B checking for speed. You can change the speed tag, and the set will know from the register what to do.

Meitantei Conan sets were rather a pain to do, but I guess I can try the newer ones.

Oh, and World Heroes 2 Jet is done too.

World Heroes 2 Jet that game uses the Speed Up feature when played on a real Super Gameboy. In fact, I think it's the only game that used the Speed Up feature.

http://vgmdb.net/album/9086 is there a GBS rip of this?
by Knurek at 6:17 AM EST on January 15, 2009
ugetab, maybe you could take a look at the last unripped GHX demo?

Seems to use standard driver but has some PCM playback going on, maybe now that the GBS emulation was improved you'll be able to make it work?

It has been removed from Shin'en website, but luckily there's Wayback Machine:

http://web.archive.org/web/20020404075435/http://www.shinen.com/music/files/ghx_exsample.zip
by ugetab at 12:23 PM EST on January 15, 2009
It wasn't rippable to GBS in 2002. It used the Timer+VBlank update I added to work, and if either one was missing, the song didn't play back.
by Knurek at 1:21 PM EST on January 15, 2009
Hoped that was the case.
Thanks a lot, a lovely and a pretty impressive tune considering the hardware.

There isn't an explanation of what GBR is anywhere. What are they? They don't sound any different to me.

You have the links to the single files here:

http://2sf.hcs64.com/gbs/

Pretty sure that has your GBS rerip.
by ugetab at 3:02 AM EST on January 16, 2009
They have a different header from GBSs

http://www.angelfire.com/nc/ugetab/GBR_Format.txt

Also, GBS files previously couldn't be ripped with Timer+VBlank enabled, so when I added that relatively recently, there were still GBR files that needed the Timer+VBlank abilities.

Knurek and ugetab
super robot theme.. songs.. very short..
Thank you very much!.¢½^^
by Knurek at 6:56 AM EST on January 16, 2009
There's no need to thank me, I just collect and organize the rips. :)

I believe the original GBR file was ripped by some anonymous 2CHN poster, ugetab did the GBS rerip.

And the short songs are played like that in the game I believe.

No .GBS conversions of the GBRs?

edited 9:27 PM EST January 16, 2009
by ugetab at 1:55 AM EST on January 17, 2009
You want them? You read the link I posted? Get to converting them. I did a few as proof of concept, or because I thought they'd be listened to, or would benefit from the conversion. Your turn.

Any chance of you looking at this game?
http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=28188

Music done by Mark Cooksey, of BombJack C64 fame.
by ugetab at 12:39 PM EST on January 28, 2009
Done, and the listed author was 'Marc' Cooksey.
by Knurek at 3:18 PM EST on January 28, 2009
Thanks. Much appreciated as usual.

And yeah, indeed it's Marc in the credits. Google seems to say though that part is just a typo. Also earlier rips of games from the same developer (mostly by kingshriek) all have Mark Cooksey in them.
by Dais! at 5:21 PM EST on January 28, 2009
Kirikou! I stumbled across that while browsing mobygames and the cover freaked me out :(

I thought there was some other game I wanted to request, but I can't recall....anyway, if it's easy, I'd be interested in the pirate game Final Fantasy X - Fantasy War:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGDTK4K7_0U

Note how the video description implies it has music from a King of Fighters GBA game? That has me weirded out enough that I want to confirm/deny it.

Argh, what was that other one...I'd say Terrifying 9/11, but I don't think anyone has successfully dumped that yet. Anyway, keep up the good work.

The unripped Natsume games, maybe?
Since those that are done have some very nice tunes in them.

Thanks anyway, some really nice tunes in the Tony Hawk 2 rip alone.

Finished Picross 2 for GB today, and the staff roll confirms that Toshiyuki Ueno listed in the GBS did compose the music (and wrote the music driver as well). If you want, update the GBS file header on site. :)

Guessing the first game was done by him as well, since it uses an earlier version of the driver.

Anyways, some more suggestions (quite a lot of them to be more precise). Feel free to ignore any or all of them.

KID games:

Bakusou Dekotora Densetsu GB Special: Otoko Dokyou no Tenka Touitsu (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=27270)
Fastest Lap (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=17555)

Gamera: Daikaijuu Kuuchuu Kessen (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=23049)
Lil' Monster [Gem Gem Monster] (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=26987)
Genjin Cottsu (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=23053)
Golf Daisuki! (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=27116)
Kikou Keisatsu Metal Jack (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=22284)
Kingyo Chuihou! 2: Gyopi-chan o Sagase! (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=22515)
Mahoujin Guru Guru (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=23118)
Pocket Love (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=26511)
Pocket Love 2 (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=26514)
Sumo Fighter [Sumou Fighter: Toukaidou Basho] (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=18231)
Thunderbirds (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=22577)

Well, most of KID's good music is in their later output, when they switched to erogames and Takeshi Abo joined as a composer, but there might be something good here as well (Pocket Love games for instance).

Bit Managers games:

Cool Ball (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=17099)

Kingshriek ripped most others I think, VGRebirth does list most of them as only published by Infogrames, maybe there are more missing. Alberto Jose Gonzalez does compose some great chiptunes.

Jaleco games:

Banishing Racer (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=22036)
Goal! (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=17533)
Hayaoshi Quiz: Ouza Ketteisen (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=23089)

Yousei Monogatari Rodland (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=26114)

Kinda appropriate, since they went out of business last week. :|

Athena games:

Gambler Densetsu Tetsuya: Shinjuku Tenun-hen (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=27622)
Ide Yousuke no Mahjong Kyoushitsu GB (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=27677)

Money Idol Exchanger (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=23062)
Pro Mahjong Kiwame GB II (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=25792)
Quiz Mukashi Banashi: Athena no Hatena? (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=22020)
Taisen Tsume Shougi (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=27680)
Trick Boarder (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=27157)
World Ice Hockey (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=21834)
Yakouchuu GB (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=27165)

First Pro Mahjong Kiwame which you ripped had some awesome orientalish tunes, hoping to find more here. SNES version of Yakouchuu was pretty nice, wondering how the GBC port compares.

Gremlin games:

Brain Bender (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=17008)
Dirty Racing (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=22230)
Jeep Jamboree Off-Road Adventure (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=17585)
Muhammad Ali Heavyweight Boxing (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=17620)
Nigel Mansell's World Championship Racing (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=17638)
Race Days (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=17679)
United States Hot Rod Association Monster Truck Wars (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=17577)

Solid output on the SNES (Top Gear games, many other racers), so likewise, wondering how the Game Boy games sound like.

Is it possible to edit the battle songs of the Pokemon Crystal GBS to pan some of voices? They're all crammed into mono, unlike Pokemon Yellow's stereo battle songs. They did this to allow panned battle sounds in Crystal. The music would sound so much better with panning.

Was anything wrong with kingshriek's Thunderbirds (E) rip? I notice yours is 6 kB larger than his...
by ugetab at 1:58 PM EDT on May 13, 2009
I just have the games organized in such a way that I couldn't help but see that there was a GB and GBC game by the same name. I just didn't bother to check, as I was kind of on a spree. It was simple enough to rip, so just keep the smaller one.

Weird, vgrebirth says Goal! = J.Cup Soccer

Noted.

Incidently, Mogura de Pon! pack on your site looks to be put prematurely, has GB not GBS and the header data for the GBS inside isn't finished (160 subsongs, while only 8 play, bad header tag data, etc).
by Camo Yoshi at 3:19 PM EDT on May 14, 2009
Dang it. I got bested.
by ugetab at 3:57 PM EDT on May 14, 2009
I accidentally packed the .GB conversion instead of the GBS, and you got a look at my default header values. I hadn't reconverted the GBS to .GB after filling in the details, so it looked incomplete.

I use gamefaqs to check for game names, so it's always possible to get bad data.

Looks like gamefaqs was wrong this time. Oh well. Ace Striker up now too.
by Knurek at 4:23 PM EDT on May 16, 2009
Not sure if I ought to post more stuff, but what the heck, can't hurt, can it?:

Digital Eclipse:

1942
Arcade Hits: Joust & Defender
Army Men
Army Men 2
Batman: Chaos in Gotham
Dinosaur
Dragon's Lair
Klax
Knockout Kings
NASCAR Racers
NFL Blitz
Pooh and Tigger's Hunny Safari
Rampage World Tour
Rampage 2: Universal Tour
Rampart
Scooby-Doo!: Classic Creep Capers
Tarzan
Vegas Games
X-Men: Wolverine's Rage

The stuff currently available is great, and I do believe Allister Brimble to be their studio composer, and the guy's a classic VGM composer (very solid output on Amiga/GB Advance).

Climax Group:

LEGO Alpha Team
LEGO Racers

Same deal here, Amiga veteran Matt "4-mat" Simmonds is the studio composer for this developer. And both currently available rips (Air Force Delta and Warriors of Might & Magic) are all kinds of awesome.

Capcom:

Gaia Master Duel Card Attacks
Little Mermaid
Makaimura Gaiden
Resident Evil Gaiden
Street Fighter Alpha
Warau Inu no Bouken: Silly Go Lucky!

Konami:

Bill Elliott's NASCAR Fast Tracks
Cyborg Kuro-chan: Devil Fukkatsu!!
Cyborg Kuro-chan 2: White Woods no Gyakushuu
Double Dribble: 5 on 5
ESPN International Track & Field
ESPN National Hockey Night
Gakuen Battle Fishers: Yoku Shiimono wa Tsure
Grinch, The
Hanasaka Tenshi Tenten-kun no Beat Breaker
Hunter X Hunter: Hunter no Keifu
Hunter X Hunter: Kindan no Hihou
International Rally
International Superstar Soccer
International Superstar Soccer 2000
International Track & Field
Kinniku Banzuke GB 2: Mokushi Semassuru Champion
Kinniku Banzuke GB 3: Shinseiki Survival Retsuden!
Koukiatsu Boy
Millenium Winter Sports
Nanonote
NBA In the Zone
NBA In the Zone 2000
NHL Blades of Steel
Owarai Yowiko no Game-dou: Oyaji Sagashite Sanchoume
Pocket GI Stable
Power Pro GB
Power Pro-kun Pocket
Power Pro-kun Pocket 2
Spawn
Super Gals! Kotobuki Ran
Super Gals! Kotobuki Ran 2: Miracle→Getting
Top Gun: Guts & Glory
Ultra Golf
Woody Woodpecker Racing
World Soccer GB2
Zen: Intergalactic Ninja

Taito:

Chase H.Q.
Flintstones, The: King Rock Treasure Island
Monster Traveler
Mr. Go no Baken Tekichuu Sube
Puchi Carat
Puzzle Bobble GB
Qix Adventure
Ring Rage
Saru Puncher
Space Invaders
Space Invaders X

Nintendo:

Balloon Fight GB
Card Hero: Trade & Battle
Kaijin Zona
Karkurenbo Battle Monster Tactics
Little Mermaid II, The: Pinball Frenzy
Magnetic Soccer
NBA 3 on 3 featuring Kobe Bryant
Nintendo World Cup
Othello
Play Action Football
Vegas Stakes

Don't think there's much to be said about those 4 companies above. Solid music output overall, though how much of it is developed internally, and how much is just published is hard to tell. Still, there's bound to be some great tunes there. :)
