Let's Tap BRSTM not working correctly in in_cube by Sonicandtails at 11:08 PM EST on December 18, 2008
Here is a link to the brstm's I uploaded.

Try the numbered songs out and I'm sure you'll notice that something is extremely wrong >_>
by hcs at 11:25 PM EST on December 18, 2008
Please use vgmstream (latest is r525). Now that it supports everything in_cube did I should really more strongly word the notice on the in_cube page.

(And yes I tested them and they seem to work OK)

Tried vgmstream? It seems fine to me.

Thanks for the upload by the way. I heard the music for this game for the first time a few days ago and absolutely loved it. I am surprised that the loops for some of the tracks are so short though.

EDIT: Outposted.

I think these are just the samples (the bit that plays when you're selecting a song).
by Sonicandtails at 11:52 PM EST on December 18, 2008
Thanks for the help!
by Sonicandtails at 12:16 AM EST on December 19, 2008
I don't quite get this though, these songs should be longer...
by Sonicandtails at 12:24 AM EST on December 19, 2008
Looks like the actual songs are in brsar's...And the only unpacker I can find (the one here) doesn't work. Fun times =\
by hcs at 2:33 AM EST on December 19, 2008
I don't think so. The TapStream.brsar isn't even big enough for sequences, it's just pointing at the streams. Unless there's a much larger .brsar around somewhere...
by marioman at 9:18 AM EST on December 19, 2008
Ah, I suspected that they may have been previews, but I didn't have time to investigate when I posted earlier. Full length versions would be nice.
by Sonicandtails at 6:32 PM EST on December 19, 2008
HCS: There are much much bigger brsar's in the game in another location. I can upload them if you care to pick through it and try to get the music out, but it seems like one brsar per track.
by hcs at 6:36 PM EST on December 19, 2008
Yeah, ok, I can take a look. It's actually probably the stream plus sequences, as is typical for rhythm games (I assume that's what this is), so even when the stream is pulled out it might not sound quite right.
by Sonicandtails at 6:45 PM EST on December 19, 2008
Nah, it's only partially a rhythm game. It's also a puzzle game, a visualizer, an action game, and a shooter. It's kind of neat.

Anyways, I already uploaded the first one for testing purposes and am uploading the rest as a full pack.

@hcs: Link to trailer

It is made by Prope which is a video game studio founded by Yuji Naka of Sonic the Hedgehog fame. I hear that he plans to make another Wii game called Let's Catch.

Check it out: letsdump 0.0, a fairly quick hack of brsar_unpack which just dumps the FILE chunk. Run like so:
letsdump.exe TapRhythm_01.brsar TapRhythm_01.rwsd

And an .rwsd will be created. Then get at least vgmstream r527, which adds support for the new rwsd type.
by Sonicandtails at 4:03 AM EST on December 20, 2008
Whoa, that was fast. Will test, thanks :)
by Sonicandtails at 4:08 AM EST on December 20, 2008
Works perfectly, thanks again!

Just to be offtopic ish. (And sorry)

Has nothing come to light on the mario kart brsar then? I assume that a lot of stuff is in there as its 104Mb. I know that the title screen music is in there somewhere by running brsar_unpack.exe, nothing is produced as it hits an error, but it skips a lot of files perhaps they are just sequences (shame) and then finds o_Option_32 and tries to export it as o_Option_32.brstm. This would work if the program didn't crash on the next item. W__BGM_TITLE, which is the title music.
I was just interested if anyone knew anything more on this file. I would like to hear the o_Option_32.brstm, but as the program fails on the next item it doesn't actually export it.

EDIT: The o_Option_32.brstm is already out of the file, under the normal streams.

Sounds great. Thanks to both of you for getting these files up and working.
by hcs at 4:34 PM EST on December 20, 2008
@Elven: based on that error message it might be that the file is just a version 3 RWSD as with Let's Tap, I'll take another look to see if I can get away with a similar (or the same) hack.

[edit]
It's easiest to just put up the file:
Streams from revo_kart.brsar.
I had to rip them out by hand. I've also had to update vgmstream. Yes, this and the Let's Tap files are essentially the same situation, but I ripped these without the RWSD stuff before them (which was unnecessary and also not necessarily directly before the RWAR, which as it turns out is the important thing here, seeming to do the stuff version 2 RWSD used to do), and I didn't feel like putting together an automated ripper.
So get vgmstream r529 or higher.

(P.S. to Sonicandtails: see what I'm doing here? Edit your post rather than making a whole series of them, please)

Most .brsar can not be unpacked use unpacker

Thanks, I'd love to hear them! =)
Do these work with the new VGMStream? They don't for me.

Yes I have all 3 files that are now required for VGMStream to parse stuffs properly, but it still doesn't play anything. The player just flicks past them both as if they are not music files.

Does this happen for you hcs?
by hcs at 8:07 PM EST on December 20, 2008
@shylph: I don't understand what "Most .brsar can not be unpacked use unpacker" is supposed to mean.

@Elven: Oops, forgot to add the extension for Winamp. Try vgmstream r530.
by Elven Spellmaker at 10:05 PM EST on December 20, 2008
Thanks hcs, it works now. =)
I wondered where the title got to. 'Tis great to have it, thanks again. =)

But as I said with the other one "STRM_N_FACTORY_F.brstm". It comes out blurry. Its the only file that uses VGMStream that plays like it... And it seems to be decoded by test.exe fine. (I think)

Would you like a sample of the file to see what I mean?

I have the file, it doesn't sound "blurry" to me. But then again I'm not playing it in Winamp on your system. When you decode it with test.exe and play the result back in Winamp how does it sound?
by Sonicandtails at 12:50 AM EST on December 21, 2008
hcs: I normally do edit my posts on forums...The "Must Bump Thread Go Go" fever took over.

On-topic: shylph, not all BRSAR's are the same, that's why we need separate dumpers.
by hcs at 1:08 AM EST on December 21, 2008
On this forum when you edit a post the thread does get bumped, fwiw. At least I think so.

@hcs: I know there is a problem with my soundcard currently, as I cannot play files in Audacity for longer than about 3 seconds or my P.C. pauses. Also if I play a game such as WoW, sounds cause my P.C. to make weird sounds which last a long time. I don't think this has anything to do with it however as all other files play fine in winamp, and the two probelms described above don't happen in winamp ever.
It makes audio editing hard as hell because I cannot listen to the song while editing, I have to export and listen.

What's worse is recently I had to do a full system recovery, which moved everything to another folder and re-installed windows. Audacity still doesn't work properly.

Both programs do it hcs, Test.exe and Winamp.

Below are two 10 second samples. If you listen it sounds like they are warped.

EDIT: (MP3 192k)

Winamp: STRM_N_FACTORY_F.mp3
Test.exe: STRM_N_FACTORY_F (Test.exe).mp3

As I've said before, it is your mixer. Not necessarily a problem, but that's the cause. When I import the decoded file into Audacity and set channels 1 and 3 to the left channel and 2 and 4 to the right I get the same effect your recordings produce. It is interference between the two channels, which is an odd effect but apparently only happens in this track. There is absolutely nothing I can do about it.
by marioman at 4:29 PM EST on December 24, 2008
Tried letsdump on the Wii Play brsars and it generates a RWSD file OK, but vgmstream can't seem to play it. Is the file not being dumped correctly, or is it that vgmstream cannot play the files?
by hcs at 5:22 PM EST on December 24, 2008
letsdump is really dumb. It pretty much just dumps the entire contents of the brsar as one big chunk. For situations where the entire contents of the brsar is a single RWSD, this works, but it isn't all that common. The Wii Play brsars are a bit more complicated than that. It would take a brsar_unpack that doesn't suck to get at their BGM.
