2sf Question by Elven Spellmaker at 10:11 AM EST on January 2, 2009
Hi,
Firstly I would like to ask, is 2sf a sequenced format or is it streamed? Because the files come from the SDAT, which is sequenced (VGMTrans opens the ROM fine).
Secondly (I know I keep going on about this), but, why if Mario Kart DS is read by VGMTrans and Pokémon Diamond is read by VGMTrans, is it not possible to do a 2sf rip of Pokémon Diamond? Surely the person who wrote VGMTrans had to somehow decode the custom header and driver it has?
Or is it that no-one knows who actually wrote VGMTrans?
Or is it something completely different alltogether?
I'm just interested to know as if one program can open them both, I don't see why a 2sf rip can't be made, but I might have something completely wrong.
2SFs are sequenced. Unknownfile did try ripping streamed tracks from Doki Doki Majo Shinpan, but it's pretty pointless given they feel perfectly fine in VGMStream (made for a good exercise I imagine).
And I need to come clean, we've had a perfectly working Pokemon 2SF rip for the last two years, but it's not been made public and probably won't ever be cause I hate all you people (and each time someone asks why it hasn't been ripped yet I move the release date half a year forward).
Because Pokemon uses a custom driver, and I think the game sucks.
I'm also planning on doing 2sf rips of streamed music, but currently there are so many sets that have the music extracted, so I'm not likely to do them.
I'm also going to invest some money in no$gba in the near future. This warezed version isn't going to be useful for much longer.
Last but not least, ANUSFEST wrote vgmtrans. Surprised? He's still active in other fields.

So... What I gather is you havn't got a working version and by saying you'll delay it, just means it buys you time.
If VGMTrans can read it, then why can't it be made into a 2sf. I know it has a custom driver, but how does VGMTrans make the sound files play? Does it do it differently?
Also whos the we've?
Plus if you do have the rip of Pokémon Diamond, hcs has made sure it won't be coming out for at least 2 years. Hehe.

I'm assuming AnusFest is not who wrote it, as he's not even a user here... Is it UF doing his usual thing?
Another completely random thing, how can a user have 67 posts and never logged in once?

Re: 67 posts and never logged in, you'll notice that if you don't log in there is still a user name and password field. Some people prefer to use that to post rather than logging in. Re: ANUSFEST, this is UF's politest way of handling the fact that the author of vgmtrans has asked not to be named. Probably at least in part because of stuff like this.
I see... So the person who worked out how to decode custom drivers is unknown, and therefore a rip of any such game with a custom driver cannot (Without difficulty) be done.
Thats a shame. =/
Also the Twilight Princess *.afc files don't work for me in Winamp using VGMStream version r530. Do I need to rename them to something else?
Actually, it's very well known who the author is, if you know the right people. However, the people who know have been asked to not tell who it is. Sorry.
As for Twilight Princess, I think they're supposed to have the AST extension. If memory serves me correctly, they were AST on the NGC ISO, but HCS renamed them to AFC because when he looked at the files, they were AFC encoded. An AST format already existed, and at the time, the TP files were incompatible with this AST implementation. I think this has since been fixed, and so VGMstream expects them to be AST extension, and not AFC.
The file kyakumachi.afc won't play even if its renamed to ast.
I am assuming though that it is the same with TP as it was with WW, most of it is in some kind of SEQ format? Most of the soundtrack is missing, e.g. Kakariko Village

Knurek, another ANUSFEST, or the same one ANUSFEST?
