Okay, it's up:

Nintendo 64 Music Archive

Please let me know if it's missing any of the rips, as I wasn't paying attention to usf rips for a little while. If you spot some other errors, please do notify me as well. :)

Features:

* standard naming scheme used in all other music archives: US region game name [alt names] (YYYY-MM-DD)(developer)(publisher)
* usflibs renamed to match the rom serial
* untimed sets are marked with [ut] in the filename
* countless copyright tag fixes

Is there a list somewhere of all the *.josh.info vgm archives you've got stocked? I feel confident I've missed a few, and if there's an index I don't know how to get to it...

Edit: oops, this would've fit better in the other thread, but... I read this one first.

Knurek, looks like my Wetrix and Star Fox 64 edits didn't make it. I also finished timing Bangai-O and Sin and Punishment (great soundtracks.)

Bakuretsu Muteki Bangai-O (tagged & timed)
Sin and Punishment: Hoshi no Keishousha (tagged & timed)
Star Fox 64 (song specific credits)
Wetrix (tagged & timed)

I have Custom Robo and Custom Robo V2 tagged according to the OST, Custom Robo is timed but Custom Robo V2 is not. Also the song numbering is really whacked out, and I think there is one song missing in V2. It's too much of a mess for me to bother with but I'll upload them if anyone wants. Think that's all... I did also edit the Goemon sets to update the artist fields to "Goemon Production Team" rather than the typoed mess of composers that are currently in them, but that was only really for my own personal use. Will share them if they're wanted. I think the only other thing I did that didn't get propagated was miscellaneous edits to the usf page itself.
by Knurek at 3:34 PM EST on November 20, 2012
Updated.
Yay on the Custom Robo sets, nay on the Goemon set (though typo corrections would be appreciated)
by Lunar at 4:06 PM EST on November 20, 2012
The typos were in Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon. Simplest way I can explain if you wanna fix it is that they are currently:

http://www.last.fm/music/Shigeru+Arabi,+Kato+Yusuke,+Saiko+Miki,+Yusumasa+Kitagawa

.. but should be

http://www.last.fm/music/Shigeru+Araki,+Yusuke+Kato,+Saiko+Miki,+Yasumasa+Kitagawa

I renamed all three sets to Goemon Production Team ~ those are the tags used on the official OSTs, and what most people seem to be using on last.fm. Of course it'd be different if there was track specific information about composers.

Anyway, here's the two Custom Robos. There's actually three songs missing: 2.20, 2.42 and 2.43 ¯\(°_o)/¯

If I downloaded a [ut] set and then timed them (at least timed the ones I could) where should I send them to?

I don't know if anyone else has done it yet, but I timed 18 of the 19 tracks in Turok 2: Seeds of Evil.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to time 19 (Oblivion)? At the moment it's not timed at all.

Also, shouldn't the "info.txt" be updated? It still says:

"Turok 2: Seeds of Evil USF Rip
Ripped by Josh W. (5/25/08)

Tracks: 19
Size: 3.6Mb
Status: Preliminary Rip

64thNote Version to use: >= 1.2

Any problems or questions related to this set sould be posted at the
Halleys Comet Software Forums (http://hcs64.com/mboard/forum.php5) or emailed
to me at josh@joshw.info"

Is it still preliminary?

edited 4:46 PM EST November 20, 2012
by Lunar at 7:00 AM EST on November 21, 2012
Just upload it and link it in this thread, Knurek will propagate it to usf.joshw

Oblivion is tough. With songs like that, I'd just use my intuition, pick some arbitrary spot where it feels like it's repeated enough/lasted long enough. Then if people do want to listen to it indefinitely, they could edit the time themselves or turn off the time tags in their player.

Some sets have info texts and some don't, but when they do I tend to just write that I tagged it and leave it at that. I doubt the text files matter much. I don't think any of the sets can be considered preliminary at this point.
by Knurek at 7:56 AM EST on November 21, 2012
One important thing - time the songs for two loops, this is the VGM standard (I'm sticking to).

For Oblivion, I'd just time it to two loops of the most standing out section of the song.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 8:13 PM EST on November 21, 2012
Well the MIDI ripped from the game lasts 9:13, so I'm assuming the longest section at least finishes around 9:13, so looping it for at least 18:26 or about 19:00 is the closest to "2 loops" I think.

Also, does anyone have any knowledge of Micro Machines 64 Turbo to know where 05, 06, and 07 are played? I've timed and tagged the rest of them.

Also, sparse02 and sparse03 are both "Course Select" themes, however, IIRC, 02 is only heard in Time Trials, and 03 is basically everywhere else, i.e. Challenge, Head to Head, Tournaments..

What should I call that one? "Course Select (Not Time Trials)"?

"Course Select" and "Course Select (Time Trials)", I'd imagine.

I'd like to request a game. I only want it for "completeness"'s sake.... Could "someone" (aka, JoshW, since no one else seems to be ripping N64 games) rip Xena: Warrior Princess: The Talisman of Fate? I noticed that there's no "X" games on usf.joshw.info, so I looked up "List of Nintendo 64 Games", and unfortunately, that's the only "X" game on the system....

Feel free to ignore this request (for that matter, it's probably best that you do), as I only wanted it so that all the letters in the alphabet are covered. I just thought I'd throw that one out there.

JoshW, you're awesome. Thanks for all the N64 rips (recent, and otherwise). I can't think of any N64 games I actually want ripped, otherwise I'd ask for those instead (and they'd certainly be a better choice of a rip). Mouser X over and out.

or "Time Trials Course Select".

is that Turok 2 Seeds of Evil set timed yet?

hmm, gonna go ahead and formally second Knurek's requests for:

Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 6
Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2000
Deadly Arts

wouldn't be able to tag any of them though. games I know I could tag at this point are f-zero X expansion kit, WWF attitude and Top Gear Rally (the latter I already have modules direct from Barry Leitch.)
by Knurek at 6:03 AM EST on November 25, 2012

The rips are fine. They've even been ripped, and re-ripped multiple times. The fault is with the emulator core that 64th Note uses. It's from a very old version of Project64, and the emulation is faulty. This has been pointed out multiple times, by multiple people, but it's not an easy fix. It sounds to me like it might even require a completely new plugin (and possibly a completely new format) for it to be done correctly. Obviously, the consensus so far has been that either people are too busy to do it, or it's not worth the effort.

In other words, you'll probably have to live with the rips as they are. That, or find someone who has the time, expertise, and desire, to fix it. Re-ripping them (yet again...) really isn't going to help much at this point. Mouser X over and out.
by hcs at 4:36 PM EST on January 4, 2014

by kode54 at 7:23 PM EST on February 14, 2014
Turok 1 is still missing the underwater music, which starts whenever you are fully submerged on any level. I'm not sure if there's more than one track.

Also, both Animal Forest and Neon Genesis Evangelion seem to be broken, causing the recompiling players to crash, and causing my version of lazyusf to get stuck playing nothing. Did the save state format change at any point? In fact, I never really did see a thorough explanation for why the format requires save states and can't just be clean state self-booting with automatic silence trimming in the player.

edited 7:27 PM EST February 14, 2014

Never mind, they do seem to work just fine in my lazyusf component. I just had my speakers turned off and expected sound to come out of my headphones.

edited 7:33 PM EST February 14, 2014

Also, which of those exact songs are too slow?

edited 7:51 PM EST February 14, 2014
by hcs at 3:50 AM EST on February 15, 2014
Savestates are used becuse it was the easiest way to get a rip up and running. I say this without intending the defensive jerk-sounding interpretation: If you don't like it, make a new format. God knows I botched this one.
by kode54 at 7:47 PM EST on February 15, 2014
I have nothing wrong with it, since I'm already using a compatible emulator core. I thought it was a problem of compatibility between versions of the player, but it seems everything just works now, and it may have been problems with the recompiling cores.
by Lunar at 3:25 AM EST on February 16, 2014
I wondered about that missing Turok song, too. Would be great if it could be added somehow.

BTW, whenever I listen to the USF rips of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, all I hear are just drums and not much tune. Is it supposed to be like this?
by Soulis at 5:23 PM EST on February 17, 2014
If you have the same ripped version like the one i have (10/23/05) then no, it sounds like a mess.

I don't know if there is a newer version though.

Yeah, I have the 10/23/05 version.
by kode54 at 8:46 PM EST on February 19, 2014
But I thought most of the Turok: Dinosaur Hunter soundtrack *was* nothing but drums and jungle sounds? At least, that's what I remember from playing and beating it on my Nintendo 64. Some of the levels had something resembling music, but much of the soundtrack was just that, drums and jungle sounds.
by Soulis at 9:29 PM EST on February 20, 2014
Yes but it wasn't like what you hear in the rip. The rip has missing instruments for sure and it just sound wrong. Try finding the soundtrack on Youtube and do a comparison. I actually liked a few of the songs.
by kode54 at 2:28 AM EDT on June 16, 2014
The underwater music is at offset 0x623168 in the v1.0 US ROM, but it has a RNC header instead of endian swapped CNR. I can't seem to figure out how to make the USF set use that data, after I add it to the ROM region.

Also, there are only 24 samples in the entire instrument bank. It doesn't look like any of them are missing from the rip.
by ojetemoreno at 12:16 AM EDT on June 28, 2014
well, i don't know if this is still alive, but i want to request the Virtual Pool 64 music, specifically the music that appears in the demonstration (just after the intro/logos). I couldn't find it anywhere so i'm requesting it here.

Droidsound-E version, seems to have some USF issues, such as the issue of of an older version that on foobar had by stacking one file on another in RAM and continually using memory until it crashes. The PSF plugin still has this issue in foobar AFAIK.
by oddMLan at 9:50 AM EDT on May 11, 2015
Don't know if this thread is still valid but I would really like an USF rip of the songs found in A Bug's Life (U). I know the PSX version has orchestrated versions of them but I very much prefer the N64 arrangements which not only sound better IMO, but because of the nostalgia factor.

C'mon, I don't think these will take much time to rip. You can use the in-built cheat in Project64 to unlock all the levels and just start them one by one. The game only has like 16 different songs.

I very much appreciate the effort and time you put into these rips by the way. Thanks in advance!
by kode54 at 2:29 PM EDT on May 13, 2015

Not sure if you guys knew it or not, but some usf rips skip on the zelda games. They don't skip in foobar and my droid cpu usage is about 50% so that's not the problem.

1.2GHz cannot play all the USF songs. The library is consuming lots of CPU.

RSN support is not broken, it's different now, it treats RSN files as archives, you need to rescan to get it fixed.

If you mean the notification bar, it works at least for me, tested with two real device + emulator.

kode54, you are right. Your plugins don't leak memory on PC. I had to reinstall foobar in portable mode.

Didn't really have a choice because it was at 50% CPU usage and using about 500Mb of RAM. (PC)

Tried the latest debug build.

Back button doesn't work while in the tab that shows song info/sample rate.

Question, have you guys thought about adding an option to disable reverb on PSF?

Hi everyone.

I'd like to ask about the Zelda rips.

Both Zelda USF rips still have slower tempo than normal. This problem is known ever since they were ripped i think. Is there any chance we will ever get a fixed USF with the right tempo?

This affects both Ocarina and Majora.

Is this game's music rippable, or not?
Really would like to know.

Everything is rippable. No one is ripping.

I downloaded the rips in the USF page that have ugetab as a credit.

The music still plays at a slower than normal tempo.

Append a [tag]_enablefifofull=- tag to the usflib of the set, it should play faster, but not necessarily the correct speed.

I tried adding that tag with hxd to OOT but it didn't seem to sound any different.

By the way I use fb2k.

Sounds like then it needs to be reripped?

I found ugetab's docs and his tools, so all is not lost for his stuff since he died. I got them backed up and things.

OOT works fine with the tag. The ser which really needs a new río is Super Mario 64.

See ya

Hey,

I tried finding USFs for the Mario Artist series on the Internet but couldn't find anything.
Since emulation support for the 64DD just started one could expect something?
