Wow. It's great seeing N64 music rips again! I'm sure I can say this for everyone here; thanks a lot for doing these!
Thanks Josh W, but there is a problem by Infomaniac95 at 8:02 AM EST on November 6, 2017
I really want to thank you for ripping the music from Lego Racer's, and I really do appreciate it. However, there is one problem, and that is not all of the tracks are present.
by sunk at 1:13 PM EST on November 6, 2017
I've noticed that USF ripping is semi-active again, so may I ask, is it possible to rip the music from South Park for N64? I've looked for rips from it everywhere, but only PS1 rip is currently available. I assume it's one of the games which makes USF impossible to rip from?

Doesn't the game just use MP3s on N64?
by AnonRunzes at 6:33 PM EST on November 6, 2017
@Krunek - Well, the thing is how to dump these MP3s from a N64 ROM?
by wolupgm6 at 6:41 PM EST on November 6, 2017
New USF sets? This is quite a pleasant surprise!

First and foremost, I've always wanted a "Starshot: Space Circus Fever" set, It's crazy to look back and think I actually might have first requested it almost a decade ago. I'd also be interested in a South Park set, but to a lesser extent. I think at some point I was able to to get sequences out of the game (using VGMTrans, perhaps?), but this was a few years ago and I'm probably wrong or thinking of different game.

I'd also be interested to see fixes for both the "Gex 64: Enter the Gecko" set, which is missing the "Toon TV" BGM (and potentially other tracks) and the "Donkey Kong 64" and "Banjo Tooie" sets - which cut off the first sample at the start of each song in the set (with some being more noticeable than others). As an example, the problem is very noticable in "114 K Rool Duel.miniusf" in the Donkey Kong 64 set, as the first brass note is missing entirely, as is the initial impact from the cymbal. For an example in the "Banjo-Tooie" set, "hag 1.miniusf" is a similar track which is also missing the first brass note. There was also a preliminary "Banjo-Tooie" rip at one point that didn't cut off the first note but instead played the first sample incorrectly, at a decreased volume (which I think was around 6db lower than the rest of the track).

I remember the dynamic tracks being a recurring problem back when the sets were first figured out, and so I know it might be a lot more work than it's worth to fix those particular sets - so I understand if it's not even worth attemping. I'm just happy to see that this has picked up some steam again after all this time!

Thank you for all the effort!

I think I just found some issues with the Mario Kart rerip. In winamp with 64th note, there is no difference in speed with the rerip and the original set. The second issue is something I'm still investigating, but it seems there might be some strange looping issues with the tracks after playing them for extended periods that i've only that I've only got with lazyusf.

EDIT: Yep, just confirmed that one of the tracks, "Koopa Troopa Beach", start having weird playback issues at the 7:18 mark. Others could be affected as well. Doesn't appear to happen in winamp.

Seems to be a timing issue with MK64.
The CPU hangs for a few seconds and then continues.

Yeah, the enableFIFOfull behavior is slightly different between 64th note and LazyUSF as both handle the audio interrupts very differently.

What would play fine on Lazyusf, will either won't work, play the same or play fast on 64th Note.

It's almost enough to have a new custom tag designating this.

Now for Lego Racers, what this game does is package up the level data, sound data, and code for each level indivudually. Which makes it a right bastard to rip, as each track will probally need to be found, and ripped manually.
Rogue Squadron does this as well, which is why it isn't ripped :(

Now, my goal for the new player is to fix all the sets which I had to jury-rig into playing due to the bad timing of Project64.
This can be heard in the sets which tend to have the start cut off, due to the need for a mandatory delay.
This can be heard mainly in the latter Rare Games (DK64, Conker, Banjo Tooie)

I guess I will make one more request then. I was originally thinking of just making a list of games that have yet to be ripped, but that would probably end up looking like one giant request anyway...

I want to request "Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub Zero". The reason for this game? The ps1 version is just as sequenced, but I can't rip it due to using a non generic sequence format. So I'm just wondering if the N64 version might be an easier bet.
by wolupgm6 at 3:03 AM EST on November 7, 2017
I completely forgot to mention, "Board Outro" in the Mario Party set plays a completely different track (and so "Board Outro") is entirely missing.

Changing the miniusf to point to "NUS-CLBE-USA-1.usflib" instead of "NUS-CLBE-USA-2.usflib" fixes the problem, but it might be worth updating the set.

by marcusss at 11:04 AM EST on November 9, 2017
Rogue Squadron would be a welcomed addition to the USF party, but it's ok if it is too painful and time consuming to rip as we have the PC version to keep us entertained :-)

I don't keep track so much in unripped USF , but were there an RARE games not ripped or any standout release not ripped because it wasn't possile previously or something???
by vajuvaju at 1:32 AM EST on November 10, 2017
Toy Story 2, as mentioned by @Bonboon228 a few pages back. @Josh W says it's still not possible. I know I've annoyed a lot of people around here by asking them to make a good USF rip and make the music work properly with N64MidiTool (midis are ripped OK, soundfonts sound all wrong).
by vajuvaju at 6:29 AM EST on November 10, 2017
This video explains how the music for the Toy Story game for the Genesis defies hardware limitations; and it was also designed by Jon Burton. Could TS2 for N64 be using a similar method?

Generic thumbs-up for all the USF ripping activity going on ~ thank you JoshW! Whilst you're looking at Mario Kart 64, would it be possible to include the 'secret' second part of "Winning Results"? The sections starting at 1:39 are triggered in-game by leaving the song to loop 64 times.

Also, the tags were wacky so I fixed them.

Last thing, erm... *^_^* I'd really like to hear the full soundtracks for Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 6 and Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2000. *bats eyelids*

But the rip already contains the 'secret' second part of "Winning Results" (after about 56 minutes :P)
by Josh W at 11:17 PM EST on November 10, 2017
Ok, given what I've learned from ripping Lego Racers, I have a somewhat working Rogue Squadron rip.

But it doesn't sound quite right, as I mentioned there are at least half a dozen different music drivers in the game that play it slightly different in a way, and I can't differentiate how each should play.

And given how bad the game actually plays in an emulator, I don't think I'll be able to fix it further :(
by punk7890-2 at 12:18 AM EST on November 11, 2017
Thanks for Rogue Squadron. It doesn't sound too bad but there is noticeable ADSR issues on a few tracks. I remember working a bit on this game for support in N64miditool with SubDrag. I think I remember something about "Song Group IDs". I am not sure if this will help as these are my old notes, but I think this should have the correct Group IDs for some songs. If they work or help at all I think SubDrag has another list of stuff on this format somewhere.

Group IDs

Alternately, they might be in the N64miditool source as well as Amuse's source.
by Josh W at 8:34 AM EST on November 11, 2017
Ah I see.
That explains some of the hard-coded values I'm seeing (which don't like to be changed)

I've ripped a new version which sets the Group IDs.

However, it looks like there's some manual ADSR tuning done for some specific tracks which are also hard coded in and can't be applied without breaking things.

Also ripped South Park

Ah that rip is near perfect now! The old set appeared to have incorrect group IDs that was causing weird ADSR issues. The only very very small issue is with c5l1_start. The crash cymbal at the start kinda half cuts out (should it even be there?). Everything else seems perfect.

It's missing action04 in the new rip for some reason.

Thanks again for all of your efforts! It's very cool to finally have a rip for this game.
by Josh W at 10:24 AM EST on November 11, 2017
I'm not sure why action04 disappeared in that archive.

I've reuploaded it and got rid of the symbol at the start of c5l1_start.
There actually was a fade-in which would have somewhat hidden it, which I've put back.
by Lunar at 11:25 AM EST on November 11, 2017
TheUltimateKoopa: "But the rip already contains the 'secret' second part of "Winning Results" (after about 56 minutes :P)"

I just read a few pages back and have a few questions. I'd like to request Starshot, too!

1) Is there a way to follow progress of the new player you mentioned?

2) Is there a guide for ripping USF sets, and if your method differs from the guide, how so and why? And is there a "starting ROM" you'd recommend for my first shot?

I'm insanely happy to see USF sets being ripped again, and I'd like to contribute to this if I can.
by Eliskuya at 12:35 PM EST on November 14, 2017

by Josh W at 8:31 AM EST on November 15, 2017
There used to be a "guide" for ripping usfs. I don't remember where it is though.
Though it's only a guide from a particular perpesctive, for a particular game.
The method depends on the game.

I tend to rip things hapharzardly :)

The new player? You mean kode54's foobar2000 plugin

Anyway, main topic...

Mario Kart 64. I've added the fixed tags from Lunar and added a version of "Winning Results" that alternate loops though the normal version and the "Secret" part.

Toy Story 2

Jikkyo Powerful Pro Yakyu 6

Jikkyo Powerful Pro Yakyu 2000

Fighters destiny 1 and 2 as the music soundd good !
Paperboy

Thank you very much for the Mario Kart 64 fix and the Jikkyou Powerful Pro rips, JoshW! Way to go :)

Returning the favour, I have tagged Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 6 to the best of my ability, using song titles from the related soundtrack collection album. There are a handful of tunes and jingles in the USF set that do not appear on the OST that I left untitled and there are a whole bunch of crowd ambiences that I doubt anybody cares about anyway. Also there are still no timers.
by sunk at 10:02 AM EST on November 18, 2017
Thanks for ripping South Park. I've been looking forward to it for a long time. I'll tag the tracks according to Darren Mitchell's soundtrack.

I'd like to request a few rips? I'd love to see rips for:

Chameleon Twist
California Speed
Rugrats: Scavenger Hunt
Donald Duck: Goin' Quackers

I'd also like it if someone could please fix the rip for Iggy's Reckin' Balls? I think the files are broken as neither Foobar2000 or Winamp would play them? It also looks like an incomplete rip, there were a lot more songs in the game than what was in the zip file...

by mariofan12ify at 11:22 PM EST on November 19, 2017
Question, why are all the Conker tracks 3 minutes? Shouldn't they be their normal lengths?
by thecoreyburton at 11:50 PM EST on November 19, 2017
I may be mistaken, but I think when USF sets are ripped they have a default length of three minutes, with a 10 second fade out. The normal lengths you are talking about are tags in the miniusf and can be adjusted by anyone. These adjustments are often posted here and then the sets are updated appropriately, but if a set's not yet been timed by anyone then the length will still be set to the default.
by Josh W at 12:10 AM EST on November 20, 2017
Correct, 3 minutes is the default, which is set by the player

I wonder why they are the same
by Josh W at 3:06 AM EST on November 21, 2017
Good question.

Looking at the rom dumps, the contents are the same, but are loaded from different locations.

The data itself looks like the sequence data, and is loaded from 0x5642b0 in sparse05 and 0x567500 in sparse06

So, they are the same, and duplicated for some reason.

USF fixes? by Yoshinkeru at 12:16 PM EST on November 21, 2017
As long as we're on the subject of fixing rips and re-rips, I've noticed a few things about Mario Kart 64. (To Whom It May Concern) Great job on finding the extra bit on the Winning Results, but it seems to "stick" at about 2:50 (it's after the loop, which I guess is okay), and it doesn't fade out. Also, for some reason, track 12 is still called "Starting Race 2", when really it's the Final Lap fanfare.
by Josh W at 5:42 AM EST on November 22, 2017
The "sticking" is a result of the VI interrupt problem that seems to be affecting quite a few rips, that can cause pauses, or outright han
gs. This occurs because there is too many VI interrupts being sent than the game can deal with.

I've found a nice hack that seems to consistently fix this on everything I've tried it with, which is reducing the depth on the VI Event Queue.
I'm going to start doing this on all rips going forward.

I've uploaded this fix for MK64, and the name & fade fix

and reripped Donkey Kong 64 :)

Super Mario 64
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Pokémon Stadium

Thanks Josh W for reviving the N64 music!

See ya
by Josh W at 6:07 PM EST on November 22, 2017
Strictly speaking all of them are inaccurate, but the most recent foobar2000 player is the most accurate of them.

And even then, if the ripped set doesn't have the '_enableFIFOfull' tag set, its not accurate either.

by thecoreyburton at 3:45 PM EST on November 23, 2017
Fantastic work on Donkey Kong 64; the set sounds amazing. I went through it all to see how it turned out and I'm really impressed. I think the only problem is that one track, "Cranky's Potion", is missing in comparison to the old rip.

Whilst I didn't think I heard it, it's short and might be under a different name so it might have just been something I overlooked.

Jesus lord in heaven it's so nice to finally see a rip of Toy Story 2 and a fixed DK64 one. Thank you so much Josh W! (I noticed that TS2 seems to be missing the boss fight music though :( )

I don't want to overload the request bin, but the only rip I've ever had issues with was Diddy Kong Racing; certain tracks like the intro and main menu music are missing instruments at certain points. If you could ever find the time to re-rip DKR then I'd owe you something wonderful.

@Josh W, Thanks so much for reripping DKR. You are right though, they do sound exactly the same, which leads me to believe that the playback errors are an issue with the USF plugin. Any info on this?
by Tanookirby at 10:03 PM EST on December 11, 2017
I've noticed that several game rips have speed issues (SM64, MK64, YS, OoT, MM, et al). Could re-ripping them solve the problem?

Also, there is a issue with the very last note of the DK64 track "Introduction."
by Josh W at 4:40 AM EST on December 12, 2017
Huh?

Call me completely deaf, but I can't tell what's wrong with either set.

Diddy Kong Racing Intro sounds exactly like a recording of it playing (sans sfx), and the end Donkey Kong 64 Intro sounds the same too at 4:51 (also sans sfx).

I don't know what I'm looking for ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also, the thing affecting the issues is the lack of the _enableFIFOfull tag, for the games that handle audio interrupts and full buffer detection.
It's changing this that tends to require reripping.

That's what it should sound like, but then listen to it from the USF and you should hear the main part cut out. Same problem happens at the end of the intro theme and the start of the Boss Race Lost music as well.

Thanks for the updated usfs Josh W

"Donkey Kong 64 Intro sounds the same too at 4:51 (also sans sfx)"

I think it happening only on Winamp. Foobar has no problem.

Ok, fixed Diddy Kong Racing

Not sure exactly why it was doing that, but changing how it starts fixes it. There could of been some weird volume thing going on.

Yeah, these rips aren't guaranteed to run on Winamp. In fact the opposite will be true, as the audio timing is definately wrong there.

@Josh W, I can't thank you enough, nor can my finally pleased ears :D :D :D

One last thing to mention about DKR that I totally forgot about is that there's one last hidden song that's never been in the rips before: https://tcrf.net/index.php?title=File%3ADkr-player-select-taj.ogg

That is (or would've been) Taj's select screen music. If you listen carefully to the All-In-One music, you can hear it there.

Well I've just discovered that a few tracks from DKR will not play at all (e.g. Pirate Lagoon, End Boss). Using foobar would crash the application.
by MoldyPond at 10:52 PM EST on December 13, 2017
Didn't even notice until you mentioned it
by Josh W at 5:06 AM EST on December 14, 2017
Damn. I'm no good at this :(

I have to rip all tracks twice, as the dynamic-channel tracks have to be handled differently. Ripping 0-120 tracks worth yesterday didn't cater for everything, the last few were missed.

Also, I didn't know about the Taj music.

I've reuploaded and then downloaded checked everything to make sure they all play. Also included Taj's :)

@JoshW You're no good at this?

You're the only person doing all of this and have contributed to an endless amount of soundtracks uploaded here, so don't tell me you're no good at this :)

Again, thank you so much. Everything with DKR seems to be working and sounding perfectly fine.

I told you I'd owe you something big for fixing it. What do you request?

In honor of The Last Jedi, I have tagged Rogue Squadron:

Any idea why Kasan Moor's theme doesn't loop?

Rogue Squadron, where's our cover?!?

I knew that I could hear some sitar in DKR character select! Ever since I was a kid I had wondered if Taj was a secret character to unlock but never found it. Nice to have that mystery solved some 20 years later. xD *mindblown*

Otherwise thanks for giving it a rerip and resolving lingering problems. Gotta admit I hadn't noticed them myself! As an aside I'd recommend retagging the composer field to just David Wise as Graeme Norgate didn't work on music for this game, just SFX afaik...
by MoldyPond at 4:00 PM EST on December 23, 2017
@Lunar I had known about that file years but for some reason when I found out about the wonderful world of USFs, I never questioned why it wasn't there so it's nice that a proper now exists :3

PS, you're right about Norgate, he was SFX only.
by mariofan12ify at 11:47 PM EST on January 3, 2018
With the re-ripped CBFD, Is it possible to re-rip with some tracks to have sfx-less versions, such as 'sparse22' and 'sparse35'?
Also asking if 'sparse58' could have a version without the chanting.
Thanks in advance!

Seeing as how this thread's been dead for a month, might as well break it with two final requests.

Mayahem Temple from Banjo-Tooie still suffers from the problem where at 1:14, the tuba keeps cutting out intermittently. Literally the rest of the soundtrack has no issues, just this one song.

Second would be the rips for NHL Breakaway 98 crash foobar and only work with version 1 of lazyusf. Just wondering if that could ever be re-ripped.

Please and thank you :D

@JoshW I have another question (sorry).

I recently listened to the re-ripped DKR soundtrack again and while the songs sounds correct now, I noticed that the volume is so loud that there's noticeable crackling on over half the songs. I know DKR is a VERY loud game, but this sounds as if the USFs are a bit too loud. Just wondering if you know anything about it.

I've tagged (though not timed) Deadly Arts, based on this Youtube playlist. Composer information lists Kazuhiko Uehara, though this has not been verified and there may be additional composers involved (I mean, this is Konami.)

Here it is. If anyone can or wants to improve upon this (with times, new composer info, better track titles and so on) please do. Thank you again for the rip, JoshW!
