Some music from New Super Mario BROS. Wii doesn't work with VgmStream r709 by Franpa at 4:19 AM EST on November 15, 2009
STRM_BGM_MENU.brstm

---------------------------
Nullsoft DirectSound Output v2.49 (d) Error

Error creating DirectSound buffer.

Same with Waveout and with/without primary buffer.

Theres another but that only fails with waveout and displays some message about frequency or something not being supported.

I use a Creative XFI Extreme Music with Windows 7 x64 and Danial_K's Driver Package 2.0

It plays fine here (8 Channels), it's your soundcard or more the setup of your soundcard, i had the same problem, but don't ask how i fixed it (i can hear even with the fix only the first 2 channels)

You can use the command line test.exe to output a wave, and work with the many channels in Audacity or some similar editor.

It does play for me, but it's just 22kHz and sounds horribly fuzzy.
by Sir-Sabin at 7:01 PM EST on November 15, 2009
chances are that your card cant play 8 channel stuff, my pc can't play them and it's a new pc

no
by Franpa at 12:20 PM EST on November 16, 2009
Like, I meant would it distinguish between left and right and append a "_R" or "_L" to track name?

Just clarifying my question better.
by hcs at 3:43 PM EST on November 16, 2009
Like, no.

If the stream is 8 channels, it will produce a single 8 channel .wav .
If you don't supply a name the name will be dump.wav .

I have another question about NSMB Wii.

Do we have a more recent tool than ripping_mama for extracting brsar's? I tried and only 4/5 sfx are successfully extracted :(

VGMToolbox has a plugin that I made that can extract RWAV, RSEQ, RBNK, RWSD, and RWAR from BRSAR archives.

Could a new version of vgmstream fix the NSMB problem? I noticed this when trying to play the files on Windows 7.
by hcs at 9:53 AM EST on January 10, 2010
It isn't a problem that vgmstream can easily solve. Unless you want downmixing introduced, which I'm not interested in working on at the moment.

With the OpenAL output plugin, this STRM_BGM_MENU.brstm now works fine. However the wav file STRM_BGM_MENU.wav generated by the Test.exe r709 doesn't... that crashes Winamp outright after 1 to 2 seconds.

The directsound output plugin also can't play it, can't create the buffer for it.
