About Alpha-II SPC Player (SnesAMP) by TheUltimateKoopa at 11:24 PM EDT on April 9, 2010
I'm sure this as probably been asked before, but is there a way of permanently making it so that it doesn't start quiet, then gradually increase in volume over about 10-20 seconds, then occasionally jump down, and maybe a bit further down 30 seconds later, and possibly increase again? What I want to know is, who's freaking stupid idea was it to make it do this? You don't sit/stand next to a CD player, and turn it down at the end of each track then, slowly turn it up when the next track plays, and then when it reaches the max volume, occasionally decrease the volume every 20-30 seconds?
I've messed around with stuff in the properties of the plug-in, but is there away of making it permanent? If not, then, is there a good SPC player that supports channel-muting? If that's not the case, then, tell the developer(s) of SnesAMP, that they're jerks.
While somewhat irrelevant to your complaint, I don't think I've ever had these problems you complain of (or, at least I've never noticed them). The reason I say this is irrelevant, is because I'm stilling using SNESAmp 3.1 (I think it's 3.1. It's a really old version. I never updated, because a "fix" removed one of my favorite features [which, admittedly, compared to other plugins, is a bug...], and I never saw any improvements worth updating for, so I stuck to the old version). Would you like me to upload the version I'm using somewhere? Actually, I seem to recall that you could download old versions off the SNESAmp site. But, obviously, I haven't been there in awhile, so I'm not sure. Uh, good luck finding a fix? :/ Sorry I can't be of any major help. Mouser X over and out.
in fairness, TUK is right. it's a stupid feature and i don't know why anyone would use it. what's also dumb is that people haven't turned it off when doing their spc->mp3 conversions, so there's a lot of lame mp3 sets floating around on vgmcentral/galbadia/etc. (not to mention bad spc dumps in the first place... i dread to think what super mario kart mp3 sets are like.)
anyway i don't use winamp anymore however there is a way to turn it off - configure snesamp, mixing tab, set AAR to "off". you probably want the first two checkboxes ticked as well.
mouser X, out of interest, what is the bug/feature that you're referring to?
By checkboxes you mean "Use the amplification level from the ID666 tag" and "Reset the level at the start of each song", right? Also, you have to select "Custom" in the DSP tab, otherwise you can't change anything...
Also, should I make a new topic about the following:
The Green Grove Zone Act 2 tune in the Sonic 3D rip (the Genesis/Megadrive "VGM" rip, not the Saturn version streams) is incorrectly looped. The length says 2:57.0 (13.1s intro and 2:43.8 loop) in the file info. The actual loop point should be around 4:14 with no intro, since the full version loops around from the very intro at 4:14... at least in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHyp28OND7Q
There's even a part that starts at 3:19 that's never heard in the rip found here.
OK, so I did exactly what you said, and it doesn't do anything. I have to keep messing around with the "Outpt Threshold", ticking and unticking the boxes, sometimes it works when the AAR is set to "On", "Increase" or "Off"... At the moment I have "AAR" to On, Amplification at 6.0dB, Output threshold at 0.00dB, and only the "Use the amplification level from the ID666 tag" selected, and the volume is sticking at 11.8 dB (since that's what it was before I changed the settings to the above... I'm using the control dialog box to see the volume levels.
I'm sorry but what has that got to do with it? It's nothing to do with the sound card, or PC volume, it's specifically the SNESamp. That is, if you enable the control dialog (where you can mute channels, change pitch, speed, etc), there's a seperate volume thing. And if you play an SPC without messing about trying to solve this problem, you can see it increases within the first few seconds, and sometimes over the course of the tune, decreases. It's specifically SNESamp/Alpha-II SPC Player.
i don't know what you're doing wrong. i'll post all my settings as a catch-all, since they're ones that worked for me.
