vgmstream Frequency Problem by Trench at 5:01 PM EDT on August 23, 2010
I've been using in_cube for many years now, but today I decided to see if there was any updated software, so I ended up at vgmstream. I downloaded it and all of the external dlls and got it working in Winamp pretty easily. But there's a problem: it won't play the file I'm trying to play at the correct frequency. For some reason, vgmstream treats the file as 22050Hz, which it's clearly not (it's 24000Hz). And in_cube never had a problem with this. I've tried to change some settings through Winamp's menu, but all I can alter is loop count and thread processing priority.
If i remember correctly I compared the tracks to some youtube videos, that's why I changed it from 24000 to 22050, but I'm not sure anymore... If you can prove it that they MUST be played at 24000 I'll change it back :)
...uhhh, okay. I don't know how you want me to do that since you said the reason you did this is because you compared the tracks to Youtube videos, and that's pretty much the only way I have to "prove" it to you. It's... pretty much blatantly obvious even when comparing it to Youtube though. Really, I'm not sure how it could be mistaken. Well, here's a clip and the corresponding PCM.

Youtube does sooooooooo much resampling to its uploads, or at least it did in the pre-720p days. What would possess you to use Youtube vids as a litmus test for anything related to specific framerates or frequencies?
EDIT: I'm asking this in a totally non-snarky way.
Thanks for making the change. I didn't mean to sound like an ass, but I guess it kind of felt weird to be challenged about something that really is pretty obvious, and something I know so well. I've been playing the game literally since it came out, and I feel I'm one of the few people in this world that even knows it exists. I understand that not just anyone can come over and tell you to change the frequency of something, but did this really seem like a prank?
I'm still a bit hesitant to switch over to vgmstream. I'm very confident that in_cube works very well in everything I've used it for, but I don't know much about vgmstream, and seeing errors like this makes me wonder if it's worth switching to. As old as Ephemeral Fantasia is, vgmstream still didn't have the correct frequency, but in_cube did. Can someone here sell me on switching to vgmstream?
Some reasons to switch: 1.) in_cube has no support since 1 1/2 years 2.) It has alot more supported formats/codecs than in_cube 3.) It's the same main developer, our beloved HCS :)
Don't be so picky about one "error", it's just 5 numbers which must be changed :P And we always appreciate help and bug-reports (this is how in_cube has grown up and this is why vgmstream supports this large amount of formats)
Ah, okay then. I guess I'll just have to keep my eye out for things. I'm just lucky it was this game and not some other whose music I don't know. The larger format support sounds really nice though, so I guess I'll just go with it.
Thanks again. I'm looking forward to the next update!
So, I downloaded the new vgmstream uploaded today, and the problem we just spent a page debating isn't fixed. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be in the newest update, or... if I'm just missing something... or what. Just thought I'd let you know though. Don't mean to sound ungrateful, but I'm looking forward to this being fixed.
I'm having another problem though: every single time I double click a file to play it in Winamp, Windows has to refresh all of my folders before opening Winamp. This causes a lag and removes things like selected files in other folders that are opened at the time. This only happens when I'm using vgmstream. I'm on Windows XP Home SP3 using Winamp 5.58.
