Since this is my first post here, I thank the people responsible for making vgmstream and all kinds of other great tools, they've all been very helpful. My current problem is with Time Crisis 4 music files: it seems all the sound files are stored in a container .npk - is there any app for extracting that type? (hyperrippper comes to mind, but it probably can't recognize files inside of npk). if extraction is possible, does anybody know what codec is used for music in this game, and will vgmstream (specifically vgmstream foobar plugin, because that's the way how I convert stuff) be able to convert it to a common format? I'm sorry if this has been discussed before.
Yea yea we know about this already. We've looked into it many times. All of the TC games on PS3 use the same codec. We're not sure of what the codec is yet but if something comes up, it'll be added to vgmstream if anything doesn't keep us from doing so.
Thank you very much for the response! So codec is the problem... Can you tell me what program is used to just extract the music files from npk container? I won't bother you with this further, I swear...
The tools I usually use for extracting stuff from unknown containers without dedicated custom extractors are a Hex editor and VGMToolbox's Advanced Cutter or VFS Extractor which requires you to manually input all the necessary infos such as offsets and sizes that you yourself have to figure out since there's no documentation of said format/container which is where the Hex editor comes in to give you a better idea of a) what are you looking for and b) see if you can figure out sizes and offsets for the needed infos for the extractors.
