Latest vio2sf? by neo_chip at 11:13 PM EDT on April 7, 2011
I've been using v0.23 but the 2sf that are converted to wave for the game Mario vs. Donkey Kong Mini-Land Mayhem the music from the Cosmic Adventure - Boss level sounds different from the original sound. Can anyone tell whats the latest version of vio2sf, or how to fix the problem?

I'm pretty sure that is the latest, as of January 2010. And not having an update for over a year is worrying. There still needs a LOT of improvement, as, while 0.23 is much better than 0.22, there are still pops and crackles. For example, the Castle theme in NSMB. The one that starts with two short notes, at the end of every note, there's a significant pop sound. Likewise, the underwater theme of the same game, the "bass" line has some slight sizzly/crackly sound.

Can you link me v0.23? I can't find the latest, i've been using v0.22 so no wonder the songs were different. Thanks Ultimate Koopa.

vio2sf 0.23 is mislabeled.
by neo_chip at 4:24 PM EDT on April 12, 2011
Yea just figured that out :P
by TheUltimateKoopa at 3:48 PM EDT on April 16, 2011
Wait, do you mean that it actually is 0.23 but it still says 0.22 in Winamp? Well I downloaded the "0.23" and it's much better quality than what I had before which was also labeled as "0.22", so I assume it's 0.23, or at least a 0.22.1 or something.

^^^^0.23. yup, it says it's version 0.22 in the components tree of fb2k. i guess he forgot to update that.

Who releases updates for this plugin? Is it the DesEmu team or what?

Last I checked the latest version of the emulator has a perfect sound reproduction of particulaly the "Cosmic Adventure - Boss lv". I ended up recording the song but its not the same quality.

Can't someone go through the code and update the plugin?
by Elven Spellmaker at 12:50 PM EDT on May 1, 2011
I thought it was mysterious plug-in guy who made updates for this.

Some people know who he is apparently.
by Franpa at 2:32 PM EDT on May 7, 2011
Dunno but it would be great for it to be updated with the latest Desmume engine :)
by TheUltimateKoopa at 7:49 PM EDT on May 9, 2011
With the latest version, 0.23, as I mentioned, you can here some slight popping and crackling in some songs.
Would the latest Desmume engine make it absolutely perfect with no crackling at all?
by Franpa at 8:48 AM EDT on May 10, 2011
Probably, v0.23 is using an incredibly out dated engine. Play the games on the latest Desmume and see if the audio pops occur there.

No there is no popping or weird instruments misplaced, its pretty damn perfect.

Shame the work on vio2sf looks abandoned. Can HCS or bxaimc kindly update it?
by TheUltimateKoopa at 6:53 PM EDT on May 10, 2011
Is Desmume fast? Because the last DS emulator I tried was VERY VERY slow. My PC has a 3.2 GHz processor and 6 GB RAM, which I assume it enough for it to at least work.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 7:57 PM EDT on May 10, 2011
Well I tested it and there's absolutely no slow down whatsoever. Also, the sound is excellent, providing you have the Synchronization Mode set to "Synchronous", and if Interpolation set to Cosine (sounds best, as they say). Also, the default buffer size is 5880, would changing this make any difference? Also would you know what the difference between the "Sync Methods" (N, Z or P) are?
by neo_chip at 10:07 AM EDT on May 11, 2011
Desmume is open-source so the latest version can be used to implement to vio2sf. With this update alone its the perfect 1:1 sound production for DS music.

If that someone could just update it...
by Franpa at 8:32 AM EDT on May 13, 2011
Desmume is fast if you have a recent 3.2GHZ or faster processor. On my 2.66GHZ i7 processor the performance is borderline. Games like Mario & Luigi 3 are playable for sure but they play at 55~ FPS instead of constant 60.

The differences between the synchronization modes are mostly only notable if your computer can't play the game at full speed. (Based on my own tests) The default audio mode results in lots of stutter/skipping when playing audio, the first 2 modes are either really slow (Out of sync) or sound weird while the "Sync Method P" mode sounds suitable for the frame rate the game is running at. By suitable I mean it plays in sinc at the same speed as the game without stutter or anything.

Also I think there are still only 2 decent DS emulators, Desmume and NO$GBA with the latter being updated less often (It might be abandoned now).

I have a 3.2 GHz i5 processor (Intel Core i5 CPU 650), and 6 GB RAM. I'm also using a 64-bit OS.
by GANO at 10:40 PM EDT on May 24, 2011
Actually, the Desmume team in now updating it. You can download the source to compile it here: http://desmume.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/desmume/trunk/tools/vio2sf/

by Franpa at 2:57 PM EDT on May 26, 2011
Well then could someone please provide us with a pre-compiled build?
by neo_chip at 7:28 AM EDT on May 27, 2011
Exactly my thought ^
by GANO at 5:30 PM EDT on May 27, 2011
Here, but no winamp2 and foobar2000v8 because I can't compile it.

Thanks but it still retains either v.22 or v.23. And the log hasn't changed in the txt file.

Of course, it isn't a release.
...Pluginja? by JFD62780 at 11:26 PM EDT on May 27, 2011
Does this mean... the Pluginja has a name!?!? O.O
by Franpa at 12:59 PM EDT on May 28, 2011
Thanks very much, better support for various games songs and it seeks properly in combination with the WUMPUS OpenAL audio output plugin :) (Previous version stalled if you tried to seek when using that output plugin)
by TheUltimateKoopa at 5:42 PM EDT on May 13, 2012
Sorry for the bump, but can you re-upload the most recent unofficial release of vio2sf, that's already been compiled?
Or at least... how do I compile it from the link on the previous page.

Also, semi-related... if the stuff needs to be compiled, wouldn't the term "pre-compiled" mean... the same as what it is anyway, as in, you'd need to compile it, because it'd be "before it was compiled", 'pre' meaning, before? You mean "post-compiled", right, Franpa? XD
by cooljacker at 6:22 PM EDT on May 13, 2012
I think I have that one (also snatched from here, the one GANO uploaded I mean)......

GANO's one (i.e the one he uploaded was the one I meant) :P *downloads*
by PabloACZ at 11:25 AM EDT on May 20, 2012
How can we compile this project properly? I only get a bunch of errors in Visual C++.
by Knurek at 12:33 PM EDT on May 20, 2012
A friend of mine managed to build the winamp2 plugin for me, here's the compile and patch for the sources.

This has something nice added, an additional window that shows you the SPU activity and a different one that allows you to mute select instruments.

Winamp 2 Plugin
Patch
by cooljacker at 1:20 PM EDT on May 20, 2012
^Yeah, that instrument option allowed me to mute (in Winamp) the water/whatever sound that was present in Rune Factory 3 2sf files, before converting to a standard codec, very helpful.

I'm late to the party again. Any possibility of getting the plugin re-uploaded or some direction on how to compile?
by dj4uk6cjm at 12:21 AM EST on January 5, 2013
vio2sf?
by admiralpete at 2:16 AM EST on January 5, 2013
Thanks for the reply. However, I was referring to the version that Knurek posted. Wasn't sure if they were the same.
by Knurek at 2:40 AM EST on January 5, 2013
Here you go.
by dj4uk6cjm at 3:04 AM EST on January 5, 2013
Sorry my bad, i wasn't sure which version you guys were looking for (it does have the mute-channel option i see in the prefrences/input of winamp) but ah i see knurek re-uploaded his version so all is well. :)
by JFD62780 at 5:40 AM EST on January 5, 2013
You are a LIFESAVER, Knu! This rerelease perfectly complements the newly-released XMPlay 3.7! No more scratchy 2SF's! (INB4TUK) ;)
by Mouser X at 9:14 PM EST on January 5, 2013
I wish I didn't have to ask this, but the default browser in Android can't download from sendspace (and I can't download from the Android app store, because the system refuses to acknowledge that I exist. I can login, but that's it). Could someone post a link (likely a direct link) that I can download from? I'd really appreciate it. Mouser X over and out.
by dj4uk6cjm at 1:50 AM EST on January 6, 2013
Here you go mouser, this is knureks version with a direct download link.
