Wipeout [PS1] PSX STR by bcass at 1:44 PM EDT on April 25, 2011
I'm trying to rip the audio from the intro for the PS1 game Wipeout (European release, as the US version intro is edited). Managed to get the ISO from here:
I extracted the STR file for the intro movie from the bin using WinISO. I've uploaded the STR file here:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4E95D6CR
Of all the STR tools, the only one that I could get to play it is PsxTulz 0.03b. According to that app, the file is PSX STR 18900Hz 16-bit Mono. However, it plays very slowly. Can anyone help with this? VGMToolbox (CD-XA Extractor) reports "Extract XA data complete" if I drag the file into it, but there is no output file.
Thanks, worked perfectly. Can you recommend a good app for converting XA to WAV? The resulting XA files plays perfectly in XAPLAY and PsxTulz but I can't get it to dump to WAV using XA2WAV.
Why wasn't VGMstream your first method of choice? For that matter, I'm surprised you even considered anything else.... I mean, considering the number of streamed formats it plays. Even if you didn't know that XA was supported, it doesn't hurt to try it with VGMstream first, just in case. There's been a number of times I've ripped a game with a format I was unfamiliar with, and tried playing the audio in VGMstream, and it worked perfectly!
In other words, for future reference, try VGMstream first. I can't think of any good reason not to. If that doesn't work, then post here, or on the IRC channel, and support will likely be added eventually.
Note: If this post comes across as rude, I apologize. I'm just legitimately surprised that you didn't try VGMstream first (if your concern is that VGMstream can't do batch conversions, it can. You just need to feed it the right commands). Mouser X over and out.
I've recently had to uninstall all my foobar plug-ins as it kept randomly crashing and I haven't had time to go through each one to see which is the culprit.
Anyway, in the interim, ADPCM Player did a good job of dumping XA to WAV...
VGMstream is a standalone application.... You run it from the command prompt (that is, don't double-click it). I once provided someone with *very explicit* step by step instructions on how to convert XA files to WAV with VGMstream, including screenshots of every single step possible.... It's likely that the pictures are still online (though, realistically, most people shouldn't need them).
[EDIT] Yep, found it. If you're not familiar with command-line tools, and want to use VGMstream (without the need of any other programs), look here
So... use VGMstream (aka, "test.exe") for all your conversion needs! No installation, or 3rd party programs necessary!
Hopefully you can find this helpful. Mouser X over and out.
